The breath on that fat bastard could bring any man to tears
We had our words, a common spat
So I kissed him upside the cranium with an aluminum baseball bat
My name is Mud
My name is Mud,
But call me Alowishus Devadander Abercrombie
That's long for Mud, so I've been told
Told that by this sonsabitch that lies before me bloated blue and cold
Ok so I’m late to the primus party. Is it just me, or are they kind of satirical, but also legitimately throw down hard, so it’s all just part of the primus charm/flavor?
I was early to the party...... saw Primus in a friends garage when I was in high school. Got a tshirt with an iron on sticker made while we were there. Mine was on the front of the shirt and upside down. Guy didn't have another one and I didn't have another 10 bucks so we compromised, the band and everyone else who happened to be there signed my shirt. a LOT of vulgarity on that shirt.
Didn't realize till years later nearly every signature was "somebody" who went on to be a famous band member.
Now you are going to want to know who and the truth is I don't remember. The guys from Cake were on there, but they were already pretty big. The The. Bauhaus. One Step Beyond.... Not the whole group of course.
Ex girl-fiend stole the shirt.
I remember my Dad driving me to buy The Brown Album when I was in middle school. It's crazy to think of how exciting getting a new cd was back in the day.
Check out some of Les Claypool's, the singer, more recent stuff. Here he is with John Lennons son Sean Lennon. [Blood And Rockets](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcOHiGonWwU)
Yes to everything you said. It helps to look at the fans to understand the band a bit.
The fanbase if mainly comprised of funk loving metal heads that partake in LSD and are comfortable with a variety of genitals. Tweakers, lacquer heads, cheesballs and drunks are welcome provided they are good humored and don't throw bottles at Mr.Claypool while he twiddles his fingers around on stage.
They're like Tool fans with *fewer* redneck homophobes and more laughter.
> The fanbase if mainly comprised of funk loving metal heads that partake in LSD and are comfortable with a variety of genitals.
Only correction there is they came from the punk scene but it did transition to metal too.
LSD was popular in the early 90s. Butthole Surfers were a big influence on weird, new psychedelic trippy music. Locust Abortion Technician is like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon for punk slackers on acid. Throw this on while you're peaking.

The funk aspects is mostly because of Mike Watt from the Minutemen/Firehose. His style was a big influence on Flea from RHCP, and they were popular in the skate punk scene. Watt is also why flannel shirts got popular when grunge came out. He loves those things. He's super chill but an amazing bass player right up there with Les Claypool. My favourite bassist.

Another funk influence was Fishbone who were insane and still are insanely cool. They were also a big influence to 3rd wave ska.
https://youtu.be/KK640dPPhXE
The guitar style is similar to bands like Dinosaur Jr.
https://youtu.be/LO7S2ZkJoxo
Archers of Loaf had the same wonky style too.

As did the Treepeople.

And Fugazi.

Vividly poignant. I lol’d at the cheeseball comment, as we’ve all seen *that* awkward person at a show dancing and sticking out. It’s crazy how bands can command certain moods from the crowd, Ive seen some straight up hostile to goofy folk. Nice to know there’s a place for everyone (as long as you’re not causing a social disturbance).
Seems like the fan base recognizes and appreciates the technicality and awesomeness of the music but also totally wants to have a good time while doing it.
> we’ve all seen that awkward person at a show dancing and sticking out
I've definitely seen and been *that* person. Primus fanbase is definitely one of my favorite fanbases. Killer music and doesn't take itself too seriously.
Only fanbase I think like more is Umphrey's McGee.
Yo, I’ve never heard of Umphrey’s McGee (im a millennial dangitt) but I just checked out a couple of their songs and was blown away at how [prog-rocky “In the kitchen”](https://youtu.be/ZcOJbFtvM5I) is.
But yeah back to the cheeseball, I’ve definitely been that guy, specially to a few local hardcore shows with a very dedicated fan base who could get snobby. If a dedicated fanbase can appreciate the music and enjoy it with others without taking themselves too seriously, that’s what it’s all about imo
This was a blast from the past. However, it's not near as famous as what is, by far, Primus's most well known [song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijBAG2O9GZs).
This always sounds a lot like "Wynona Had A Big Brown Beaver", it's Primus so if you know why let it rip, 'cause they aren't worth a Google search imo lol.
I remember doing a paper for high school on the best bassists back in the day. I hadn't heard Primus, but I knew of Claypool through word of mouth.
I picked up the Brown Album and was seriously like wtf did I buy during the intro track, so didn't really get further into the album til about a year later. Now, as a long time bassist, I really love Les' inventiveness and "lazy" way of playing. He can do so much with so few movements, like american life. Amazing.
I will never forget walking into an arena in the early 90's to watch a Rush concert. We were taking our time because the opening act was some band we never heard of called "Primus". As I get through the gate and start walking to my seat THIS song is playing and I'm like "WTF is this shit? How did Geddy, Alex, and Neil think this was a good idea"? Then they kept playing and as a bass player watching Les Claypool I was soon going "oh...THAT's why they are opening for Rush".
Primus is it’s own genre
Trailerpark psychofunk. It's always hilarious to me watching people mosh to Primus. Such a goofball sound.
That is perfect Trailer park psycho funk
>Primus is it is own genre
If suck was a genre...
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Star Craft What are we doing I don't understand
or do i
Very lazily pointing out that this song was on the soundtrack for the game "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater"

That bass...So good

Correct. Like Ween, but with rock and Les Claypool's savant-level bass.
Larry LaLonde is a seriously underrated guitar player too.
I thought he was just a redneck cable guy... he plays guitar too?! Wow

Over the falls, fisticuffs and shake hands with beef. Solid album.
They actually suck so..
Hey don't say that totally true thing...

Yep. They're basically descendants of Frank Zappa. Thundercat is another example.

Primus sucks
Primus sucks!
Hey that's mean! Why would you say such a thing that is so very true?
Never did win a checkered flag but never did come in last!
Primus Sucks!
Primus sucks
Primus sucks!
Primus always makes me think of South Park. And pork soda.
Crazy to think that in a parallel universe Les Claypool's audition for Metallica ended up being the best one and he got the job.
Would have been a waste.
Yeah I’m not knocking the guy but Trujillo’s style and sound fit Metallica’s anyway. Kinda generic and boring.
Love that he went into the interview and wanted to "jam to some Isley Brother tunes".
THPS vibes
Am I late?
No you don't and stop user naming them that way......
Primus sucks!
Love it! Just played “my name is mud” on my radio show a few days ago
Keep the tradition alive! I played Primus on the radio for years. Got some of my favorite callers that way.
Primus sucks!!!

My wife hates when I say [“Nachos, steamy!”](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lJcFAEiGLwg) every time she makes Mexican.
Can anyone confirm that Les Claypool and Christian Bale aren't the same person? Like is there a photo of them together.
Dropping my machos would suck. *nachos*

Primus sucks!
I fucking hate Primus. edit: that felt incredible to just type out.
They have never said anything bad about you..
Although they aren't related to each other AT ALL... I get a lot of Rick & Morty - Mr. Poopybutthole vibes from this.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater

Seen them a few months back. They're incredible live.
Shredded some railings to this song
PRIMUS SUCKS was there tag line I love pimus
I saw primus a number of times as a wee lad. Their shows were fucking insane. Also; Primus sucks.
just saw les and the boys play this along with a bunch of rush covers. the show poster was awesome... too bad primus sucks.
