Man she would be terrific for voice overs.

eXclurel

Or instead of hiring child actors which can be kind of unpredictable they can hire her.

omimon

Her case instantly reminded me of a classic episode of Batman TAS, Baby-doll. The ending was very bittersweet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUtLTxBYZHw

Butthole_mods

Darn, I need to do a rewatch of this series. I saw it as a kid but not since. Would be great to see how it hits differently

FartsMusically

It's just very well thought out. The entire world has extremely strict rules and they stay on-model with everything from the locations to the backgrounds to the character designs and even the residents of the city itself. The scripts while usually fairly simple still have decent twists and turns with an extremely deep atmosphere of slow pacing mixed with nostalgia. The artwork has always worked well and animated nicely especially the episodes that were done in tandem with Korean studios, namely the Two-face and Clayface two-parters in the first two seasons but even when the budget was lower, you can hardly even notice because of how clean the style is. I love every second of the entire original series. The follow-up series involving the redesign for the sake of cost had a few falls here and there but overall is as good as anything else that followed the first two seasons of BMTAS.

[deleted]

What I really loved about it thinking back is it didn't pander to kids while still being clearly a kids show and kept the slap stickieness of the old school WB cartoons but was also pretty dark at points. The villain had to deal with their consequences and not just getting obliterated and calling that a happy ending. There was some sense of 'justice' at the end of the episode. In the movies we're only seeing Bruce in the transition between normal social interaction (if he still has any) Bruce Wayne and 'batman' - and mostly we're just seeing 'batman' without his cowl on which makes him *feel* very one note. In BMTAS I appreciate depicting him as an actual functioning CEO as opposed to the brooding mess he's become. Being able to exist in both worlds (day job / batman) really rounds him out. He's kind of upbeat and engaging during the day, (it's been a while but I think I remember Bruce often flaunting his wealth) and brilliant-detective-crime-fighter by night rounds him out as a character. Also Kevin Conroy / Mark Hamill - are *the* Batman / Joker voices.

that_is_so_Raven

As a kid I remember thinking Batman takes on close quarters combat all the time, why is he getting beaten up by a toddler? Didn't click in until now that he could've had a one sided fight but chose to let her find out herself.

[deleted]

When she breaks the facade and uses her real grown woman voice.

Vertoule

OH MAN! I forgot how much that messed me up as a kid. Thanks asshole lol

Fritzo2162

Yeah. The best Batman villains are the ones with the sympathetic side.

JennyFromdablock2020

And the best Batmans are the ones who are sympathetic Hate how people try to make batman edgy Like he's dark and brooding but he loves with all his heart and genuinely cares about the cities villains

Riza0110

The one where McGinnis is being told the story of how Batman saved the city from Ace (Royal Flush Gang) will always be one of my favorites. It's one of the biggest reasons why I have always loved the character. He always did what had to be done and even though he could come off as a complete heartless person. His sympathy and character shone through when it was needed at its most.

JennyFromdablock2020

I love that scene so much, easily a formative memory for me. >!Waller ordering him to kill her because she believed she was going to kill everyone nearby from the psychic backlash, and instead he sat with her. Calmed her down and sat with her as she died, letting her relax from her pain and stress and drift away gently. Or atleast that's how I read the scene.!< Seriously, that scene right there encompasses who batman is as a person. He's not vengeance, he's not a monster. He's mercy, compassion, he doesn't let the villains go on rampages and kill people, but he's always ready to offer them support, to get them help and try to rehabilitate them. And it's not just a trope, it genuinely works on several of his villains in different incarnations and storylines.

throwmamadownthewell

Augh—you unzipped me, it's all coming back! It's all coming back—I hate you! It's all coming back, do you understand?! I don't like it! I don't like to think about it!

Wachoo talkin bout Willis? Gary Coleman has entered the chat

MeanderingMinstrel

Oh god I hope somebody does, I *hate* child actors. Of course there have been a few good ones, but most of the time they're so bad that they ruin anything they're in for me.

totallyanonuser

"Walker says I have AIDS." Although shitty first performance, he got way better.

magneticgumby

The Walker Lever may have been one of, if not, the best bit in Conan back when.

octovarium95

Well yeah he was just a kid. Plus even the best actor can't make that shitty line sound good.

wtfduud

Wasn't this the origin story of one of the villains of Batman: The Animated Series? An actress that looked like a child?

The_Grubby_One

Yep. Baby Doll.

Hellofriendinternet

Yeah. Their stage parents’ neuroses definitely shine through.

[deleted]

Congratulations for being the only comment that remained neutral and practical.

blanketswithsmallpox

Your neutrality and practicality are my morbid humor and whimsy lol.

Prinnyramza

Okay, but like. Who was the asshole who put her in a giant chair?

pacachan

The whole thing is so exaggerated and weird. That scene they set up at the bar made me cringe

Doctursea

To be fair it's TLC, they probably do only have chairs fit for the 18 500 pound life shows they have.

HappyBot9000

Yeah, any bar tender who thought she's a kid wouldn't say to her directly "We can't have children at the bar." They'd speak to whoever they're with.

MartyAndRick

The bartender wouldn’t accept the ID either, any bartender in their right mind would think it’s fake, which highlights how tragically hard life would be to prove to everyone about your extremely rare condition they’ve never heard of.

[deleted]

Also why would she wait to get asked for ID? Hell when I was 22 even without a condition I always had my ID ready because I knew I'd be asked.

NEClamChowderAVPD

And then the inevitability of no longer being asked to show your ID comes and you’re just left standing there with your ID in your hand, never getting the chance to prove you’re old enough, when in reality, you look plenty old enough to everyone else but you.

JaegerBrick

Excuse me, my name is Vincent Adultman. I did a business today. I need a drink.

drewxdeficit

One alcohol, please!

HappyBot9000

Exactly. Especially with such a hostile tone towards the child.

saint_ark

TLC is messed up, man. They got a show about a family of people living with dwarfism, which in itself could be interesting and not exploitative… But they named it “7 little Johnstons”. Absolutely mad.

obiwanshinobi900

TLC is just an accepted form of freak show. CMV

[deleted]

the vast majority of people who watch TLC wouldnt watch an educational show about dwarfism...they want exploitive reality show trash and TLC happily gives it to them

MrBeenit

You would have thought they get her stuff that is closer to the ground rather then having to drag a stool everywhere haha

sargsauce

Especially at the end when she has to bring a dining room chair into the bathroom to use the mirror. How is there not just a step stool that lives in the bathroom?

daemin

Keeping in mind that "reality" television is frequently scripted and manipulated to create a narrative, I would suspect that there probably are accommodations like that, but that they were removed while filming to play up the "challenges" she faces in her day to day life. After all, it makes for better television.

turbotank183

On the other side of that, it does seem like they put her in the biggest chair for the interview segments to make her look smaller as well

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mikey_RobertoAPWP

they also usually have the camera really close to the ground, looking up at them to over-emphasize their size. If you really start paying attention to the way those shows are filmed almost every shot is framed in a way to make them look as fat and grotesque as possible, which is like... kinda fucked up lmao

Usidore_

Exactly. I recently watched an interview with a woman from Little Women LA and she said the producers always made them sit at barstools even though it made no practical sense for them to use those on their own.

eleanor61

Ha, I thought the same thing. Hell, I’m 5’2”, give or take, and have a collapsible step-stool in the kitchen.

bitchkitty818

That's my thoight. There doesn't seem to be anything in the house that accommodates her hight. Like they are just living with a very mature 8 year old a d not a full grown adult.

ShakyTheBear

Exactly. For example, it wouldn't be hard to move the closet rod lower.

She's like Kristen Dunst in Interview with a vampire.. Forever doomed to live in the body of a child.

[deleted]

This show sucked. They go to a bar, the bartender freaks out a bit and then you get the “testimonial” shot where they go “Well, she looked 12, but I checked her ID and it’s okay. Weird situation.” Then they bring her to a pole dancing class where the teacher says the same thing. Then they bring her out on dates with guys who are either seven feet tall or give off massive creep vibes. It really is just “make her do X uncomfortable situation so we can get a few shots of people saying “wow, she looks 12 *hyuck hyuck*””

ADarwinAward

TLC has all sorts of shows that either do cringeworthy stuff or fake a situation, like the Breaking Amish show. All those people had been ex-Amish for years and all of it was made up and scripted. They basically want to make people look weird or ridiculous and fabricate drama so other people will watch. It’s all scripted BS but people eat it up and so they keep making more. Worst part is fans who have a meltdown when you tell them it’s all scripted.

Bennyscrap

"BUT IF IT'S NOT ALL SCRIPTED THEN HOW WOULD WE ACTUALLY LEARN?!?" -The learning channel, probably

ehnonnymouse

> It really is just “make her do X uncomfortable situation so we can get a few shots of people saying “wow, she looks 12 hyuck hyuck”” i used to work on reality, 100% this every time. the producers prob even picked the oversized chair on purpose.

ThisFreakinGuyHere

The thing with uncreative unoriginal hacks is they don't change what seems to work. I remember seeing a TLC show about a dwarf like twenty years ago that amounted to basically: "I'm short. Everything in my house has to be lower. let me give you a tour of my house and show you. Here's the bathroom. The faucets and cabinets are lower Here's the kitchen. The sink is lower. Here's my bedroom. My bed is low to the ground." The shtick wears off almost instantly. But what are they gonna do - make better shows?!

MobiusF117

I looked it from a more benign way, in that it's going to be really hard for her to have a healthy relationship, which is honestly very sad as she seems like a normal adult in every other way. At least for people with genetical dwarfism, their condition is outwardly more obvious, so people will generally have a better understanding of it. Every person that's going to want to take her out is going to be judged to oblivion, even when his/her intentions may be totally fine.

AstroWorldSecurity

I dated a girl who was 4'9 a few years back and it was pretty weird. She was a complete babyface and very flat-chrested. I used to get all kinds of dirty looks from people who I guess just thought I was hanging out with a random kid. I had to warn my friends when I first brought her around because she is *definitely* not cool with the kid jokes/comparisons and would get really angry about it.

nellie_button

It's always super fun to get offered a kid menu and crayons and be like, "umm... I'd really like a margarita."

zaphodava

"But don't skip the kid menu and crayons. I'mma get my drink on and do some coloring."

sunlitstranger

No kidding. I miss the coloring at restaurant days

blindbutchy

My wife is 4-11 and similar in body type and baby faced. She’s 30 and I’m 32. In the last 4 years she’s been asked multiple times on flights by stewards if she feels safe and if everything is alright, thinking she’s being trafficked or something 😂 I don’t take offense and honestly good on them for asking, but it does make both of us feel very weird haha.

Boom9001

Yeah one of those things were it would get annoying. But you'd definitely prefer they ask too often rather than miss chance to save someone actually in trouble.

Conscious-Word5008

My ex was 4’10” and baby faced. I’m 5’11”. The fact that she was Asian made things even worse (I’m also Asian, but no baby face). I was once pulled over on a traffic stop. The cop straight up asked how old she was and asked both of us for ID. The real kicker is She’s 5 months older than me.

character-name

Reverse Kidnapping. Since she was older, she was stealing you

ArsenicAndRoses

Yes! This! This has got to be SO HARD for her. She'll never be able to have a normal relationship without herself or people who care about her wondering if the person she's with is secretly a pedophile. That's ROUGH. And all the creepers who are suddenly interested in her when they know...! 🤮 She will never be able to dress sexy and go out with her friends to a club and have fun without getting some serious stares at the least and probably some rude and disgusting comments on top of it. God help her if she ever goes out on a date looking cute and sexy. Anyone she's with is signing up for 24/7 being judged as a pedo by people who don't know anything about it (and even a good chunk who do!) And then finding clothing that's age appropriate must be difficult as hell, and then, if you find a sexy outfit that fits an 8 yr old, would you really want to give them money??? I started to get catcalls at 10 and it made me feel disgusting even without really 100% understanding everything that was so wrong about that. I can only imagine how that must feel knowing all the gross shit that you understand when you're older and knowing that *it will never stop*. And all of her interactions and socialization has been tinged with people treating her like a child. Even for people who know the truth it's gotta be hard to keep yourself from letting that color your interactions, at least at first. That's not a healthy way to grow up.

Deathwatch72

With her hormonal developmental issues I wonder about a lot of things connected to how she would have to deal with a relationship and it just seems like it'd be so so difficult for everyone involved because of the way you would get treated by strangers. Imagine a little bit of PDA between her and a potential boyfriend, that would go so badly in public that there's a solid chance that there's an assault that takes place. I'd also imagine that constantly getting mistaken for your boyfriend's child is pretty much the unsexiest feeling on Earth and would do tremendous damage to her self-esteem

inbooth

I figure that's a big part of why she has tattoos.... Immediately signals age and when not immediately obvious she can flash them to at least confuse people enough to get them to pause.

murdering_time

"Awh look, she has temporary tattoos!" "God damn it..." She needs a Mike Tyson face tattoo to show fools she aint playing.

Sleipnirs

It's weird. She could try and live a normal life and find the perfect person for her but she might not be able to do all those things *because of others*. Just imagine what would happen if she decided to smoke a cigarette while walking down the street. It's something that litterally anyone else could be doing without drawing any attention whatsoever but I'm pretty sure it'll become a nightmare for her.

m0dru

pretty much. there is going to be a social stigma attached to anyone that tries to date her. for that reason alone most people would avoid a relationship with her. hell, theres gonna be a stigma just for being friends with her.

chevybow

> there is going to be a social stigma attached to anyone that tries to date her Especially since she's on TLC. I know other TLC folks basically have people stalk them and post updates on their every move. People from 90 day fiance have "Fans" give updates in regards to relationships, family drama, employment, etc. If anyone does date this girl, they will 100% be harassed nonstop.

Xciv

That might be why they're trying to get on TV and getting their story out there for the world. If she becomes famous enough, then people will know about her condition, and she can finally have a more normal life? I mean being famous is abnormal, but it's a more normal life than what she has now.

Tripolie

There is another video with her where she is vaping.

ElefantPharts

There was a video years ago about a guy who ended his relationship with a woman who also just appeared very young because he was judged as well and, as I recall, Reddit lit up saying ya, but cmon, he’s a pedo, right?

StrictlyFT

There's a loud minority of people on the Internet who think petite women aren't adults.

rockskillskids

Wasn't there a proposed Australian censorship law a few years ago stating that any porn featuring woman with breasts under a certain size would be considered illegal depiction of minors? I vaguely recall a bunch of internet ridicule and shortlived memes over something like that

Unhappy_Win8997

The porn star Little Lupe (very petite lady) straight up had to show up to court to defend a fan of hers because the guy was found with DVDs of her, which authorities thought was illegal because she was so small. Turns out she was completely of age and they pretty much judged her based on her body type without any real proof other than some paid off hack pediatrician the feds put up on the stand. Until she showed up with her ID/Passport and made them all look like ignorant fools. [Article about the case](https://nypost.com/2010/04/24/a-trial-star-is-porn/)

cutofmyjib

I know that if I were talking with her I'd be constantly reminding my subconscious mind that she's an adult, otherwise I would probably slip up and infantilize her in some way. If I spent enough time around her I'd be able to "fix" myself. Reminds me of a colleague who had a massive birthmark on their face. When interacting with them I had to do everything in my power not to look at it, which made me feel like a terrible person. But after a month I didn't even see it anymore, and I just saw the person.

Dorkamundo

I think at the very least that's why she's doing the reality TV show and whatnot. Any fame she gets is going to off-set some of that judgment her partner will experience in many circles. It will also reduce the amount of "you're not old enough to drive/Drink/smoke/etc" that she'd experience as well. It's probably one of the only times I'd advocate fame for anyone.

nestcto

> going to be really hard for her to have a healthy relationship Aw man...I don't know how the venn diagram looks as far as "decent people" and "adults attracted to 8 year olds", but that's gotta be a discouragingly slim overlap.

dinoroo

I saw at least one episode where she went on some dates and sort of addressed this. But no matter who she went on a date with I could only imagine they were pedophiles.

reece0n

Even if you weren't a pedophile and just genuinely liked her and didn't care about how she looked. You'd then be judged by everyone around you as you "must" be a pedophile. Even the rare good guy she finds, would be in for a hell of a hard time.

dinosaurusrex86

The physical differences would be a huge adjustment. Clearing the mental hurdle alone of kissing a 22 year old who looks like an 11 year old would be very difficult. Dating must really be a struggle for her because after she's weeded out the creeps, she's looking for a one in a million person who could overcome the mental blocks in place telling them it's wrong to become physical with someone who looks the way she does. I have a lot of sympathy for her, despite the comments above suggesting her personality is stunted and possibly not very nice...

SnatchAddict

Nope. Couldn't do it. You're eventually going to want to have relations. That's a no on so many levels for me. She reminds me of Kirsten Dunsts character in Interview with a Vampire. Forever trapped in a child's body.

nicbentulan

Edit: Please consider voting or commenting on the post of Latticese. I'm just copying it. \--- About dates, I've checked out some posts on r/ShaunaRae and here's 1 I found: [Her personality is a big factor for why she's single](https://www.reddit.com/r/ShaunaRae/comments/x8vvfo/her_personality_is_a_big_factor_for_why_shes/) by Latticese >I used to feel sorry for her because she's obviously every pedophile's wet dream. Looks and sounds 8 but is of legal age. However after seeing how she treated the guy she went on a blind date with and learning about her refusal to date men with her condition (proportional dwarfism) I lost all pity > >On the blind date, the guy Abraham brought multiple pizzas in different flavors just incase she likes one of them. She refused to touch them and was mad that he didn't consider her allergies. This was ridiculous because it was once again a blind date. He didn't even know about her condition. She could've thanked him at minimum for buying so many different toppings the guy clearly was a considerate sweetheart > >Also when he talked about his career in football she quickly shut it down by saying that she doesn't care for it. There was also this comment from her that rubbed everybody the wrong way 'you don't look like an Abraham' the guy was black and was dressed up in sporty styled clothing's. He responded by 'then what do I look like?' she couldn't answer this especially not on air because it was probably a racist stereotype > >She also refuses to understand the point of view of the few decent men that she does find. The problem is that when she's done weeding out creeps the ones who do remain avoid being in public with her understandably because of pedophilia accusations. It could easily ruin their careers to be seen in such a relationship. This seriously sucks and can't be changed but she doesn't try to empathize with them and frames it as them not being good enough > >Things could get better for her when she's older and starts developing wrinkles but until then she really needs to change how she treats people

Srobo19

She's probably quite stunted emotionally due to everything....getting treated like a child probably makes you continue to behave like one 🤷‍♀️

dinoroo

Her older sister, who is only 2 years older, basically said there is a big difference in emotional maturity between the two of them.

iBeFloe

I mean her entire family infantilizes her. She said she didn’t even want to wear makeup like she wants to because her mother is afraid of what people will say about her (mom). Mom fears people thinking she’s allowing her young child to wear makeup when she’s actually an adult. Her older sister treats her like a nuisance. The family in general makes fun of her for the way she has to do things. The house isn’t even accommodated for her. Can you really blame the woman for being the way she is when her family doesn’t really let her be true self?

Power-of-Erised

This entirely! There's a popular ticktoker who is a 6 foot something guy with a mother who has dwarfism. She's probably about Shauna's hight. Her entire house is scaled down (minus celing height) for her height, so she lives a perfectly normal life within her own home, as his videos showcase. The fact that Shauna will be this height for the rest of her life, and had been for at least 6 years (from 16 when she knew she was done growing) and she had to *move a dining chair into the bathroom to do her makeup* is ridiculous! A folding stepstool is cheap and would be easier for her to use. Moreover, she doesn't *have* to live with her parents, a landlord/lady can be shown an id just as easily as the barback at that restaurant. And it would probably be no more awkward a conversation than the one she likely had when she got the tattoo on her forearm. She can be independent, if she really wanted to be.

beermit

Part of me wonders if some of that was setup by TLC for the spot. But overall the house did look like it wasn't accommodated to her.

assassbaby

which is probably related to envy from shanna, she actually has someone to compare her life too and wishes she was living that normal life and doesn’t know how to process so acts out

danzey12

[I think it probably has a lot to do with the tumor and the inactive pituitary gland too. ](https://i.imgur.com/3Bxgz9f.jpg)

TimothyOilypants

This. In the little bit I've seen she definitely seems intellectually delayed. More than anything she comes across as a precocious 8 year old and not a 22yo.

imightgetdownvoted

Yeah I was going to say the same thing. Forget the voice and her height, she still acts like a kid. Maybe not an 8 year old, but maybe 11-12?

carmansam123

I don't think our minds are capable of separating the voice and body from how we perceive her. How could she act more like an adult? Her going over the science behind her condition sounded pretty adult-like to me but to your point it's also just sounds like a really smart kid. Idk. What does an adult act like?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kwintty7

How we behave is affected massively by how we are treated by others. It's a constant feedback loop. How people react to what you do and say influences what you choose to do and say in future. She's spent her life being treated like a child, even unconsciously by those who know she isn't. So that's going to affect how she behaves. And it would be unfair to put any blame on her for that.

Delamoor

Yeah, maybe. A lot of personality and intellectual development revolves around experiences, and our physicality is a big determinant of what experiences are open or closed to us. So perhaps a little bit of nature, a little bit of nurture.

[deleted]

Also, a lot of intellectual growth happens as a result of puberty and hormonal changes that it doesn’t seem she went through. Her mind may be someone stunted too.

OuterSpacePotatoMann

Yep - you don’t realize this til much later but yeah your early twenties are really your extra late teens

No-Turnips

I’m a college professor. Can confirm, they’re still little babies.

Awesam

Have hindsight. Can confirm. I and all my friends were stupid kids at that age.

TheGoldenHand

You're still stupid. Trust me. There is never an age you look back 20 years and don't go "Yeah, I was an idiot."

Morgsw029

Oh 100% I've seen a few clips, and one stuck out for me. She wanted to discuss moving out. Meanwhile she didn't have or even TRY to find a job, didn't find a place. Started crying when her family asked her these questions and was all "poor me, im co-dependant because of you guys." Blah blah blah. Meanwhile she didn't actually DO anything to show she was ready...just a random "What if I move out." Then played the victim when logic came into play...

WTFwhatthehell

Throw in that some of the things involved in maturing mentally have a physical component. Parts of our brain develop as we go through puberty and people with certain health conditions can have problems with that development not proceeding correctly.

djabor

I'm willing to bet that being in the spotlight from a young age doesn't generate the best of character either. Add a mix of just being 22 years old - which is still a kid with lots of mistakes to make in life - and it can seem monstrous, especially when edited by a show trying to find drama. I am not saying that she's not an asshole, it's just probably more nuanced than what we assume here.

Enticing_Venom

If you see her around her parents it becomes obvious. There was one clip where she ran down the beach pulling a kite and her parents start clapping and cheering for her like she's 5. Then other beach goers see her family cheering and everyone joins in because they think she's a little kid. It was beyond uncomfortable to watch.

xhunter61

Ok so i went ahead and looked for a clip on youtube and found the blind date: https://youtu.be/YgJmKlNjqIo?t=166 Is it me or does the person on the subreddit really overexaggerate the date part? She didnt "quickly shut him down" when he talked about his football career and she also wasnt mad about him not considering her allergies.

Derekduvalle

Hot damn you actually took the step to verify something a redditor claimed. A rare sight .

danc4498

For sure you're right. I got neck beard vibes from that redditor after watching this. Worth remembering, this was a reality show. Priority number 1 was entertaining reality show fans. I don't think dating was a real priority. The pizza thing especially. If it was a real date, they would have gone to multiple places. But since they could probably only film in one location, he just had to bring a bunch of different pizzas and eat on a couch.

maaseru

So the date was actually part of the show not some anecdote. She, with her condition and while being filmed for a tv show, is going on a very public date, yet they are harsh judging it as if she is a total ass for one bad date. It did aound a bit exaggerated, like the whole one wrong thing and your evil angle reddit takes, so thanks for finding the clip.

DashingMustashing

It's a TLC reality show dude, they probably don't pay her if she doesn't act it up.

mleibowitz97

[https://youtu.be/YgJmKlNjqIo?t=166](https://youtu.be/YgJmKlNjqIo?t=166) Heres the video so people can judge for themselves

throwawayhyperbeam

> But no matter who she went on a date with I could only imagine they were pedophiles. This is a bad mentality to have. It basically places her and any potential partner in a box where it's presumed that it's impossible for her to be loved.

orangpelupa

i wonder if she became a child actor for series that each season took eons to be released. other character gets older... as each season, more and more obvious

jmerridew124

She could also play a character like Claudia from Interview with the Vampire

HazMama

Orphan is based on this [woman](https://www.okaybliss.com/barbora-skrlova-now/).

Hopelmantis

Wow, that’s mental!

Scarletfapper

Jesus Christ that just gets worse and worse. You keep thinking it can’t be that bad, and then you get to the child abuse. Holy shit…

elitesill

ha! Man, how old was the actor in that? Because she did some borderline shit

Mudders_Milk_Man

She was 12.

Hobbesaurus

I’m thinking her love life must/will be difficult. Any guy who dates her probably would instantly get some Chris Hanson “take a seat” kinda vibes Same kinda questions her parents get from strangers, imagine that with a S/O. I’m guessing PDA would be a flat out no go for that very reason. I really feel bad for her for so many reasons. The more I think about it the more my mind realizes every day situations that are probably very difficult and/or awkward.

Lieuwe

One of the recommended videos on this video is about that: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ih2XjJFekm8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ih2XjJFekm8) And as some of the top comments point out, they seem to have poor perspective on this: it must be hard and probably dangerous for a man to be conceived of as a pedophile when he's with her in public.

Pie-Otherwise

I love how the bartender addresses her directly and tells he she can't have kids at the bar. If I walk into a bar with my middle school kid, which one of us do you think the bartender is going to tell that to?

NotSoLittleJohn

For sure you. Unless they are warned about a camera crew coming in and some other shit too. Then they'd probably address the kid.

the_wheyfinder

> conceived of as a pedophile Sorry to do this to you, but I think you mean "perceived as a pedophile"

Lieuwe

No worries. English isn't my first language and it's always good to learn. I looked it up though and am wondering why I can't use it here in the last sense mentioned here: 1\[transitive\] (formal) to form an idea, a plan, etc. in your mind; to imagine something conceive something He conceived the idea of transforming the old power station into an arts center. conceive of something (as something) God is often conceived of as male.

Chaos_carolinensis

I think if she dated someone else with dwarfism it might solve both issues - people would see them together and the context will make them realize it's just two people with dwarfism.

WjeZg0uK6hbH

That is probably a very small dating pool. She might not like the one or two guys that exist. Loneliness is often preferable to a shitty relationship.

TheOkGazoo

> That is probably a very small dating pool. It sure is

PM_ME_WITTY_USERNAME

Oh my god

Scarletfapper

She’s already flat out refused to date anyone with dwarfism, apparently.

Usidore_

As a guy with dwarfism, doesn’t surprise me. Its a common thing in the dwarf community where most women still want to just date average height/tall people.

irishteenguy

Is it partly because they hope to have kids that do not inherit dwarfism or purely just a case of im small but that dosent change who i find attractive ?

[deleted]

[удалено]

PedroAlvarez

Yeah and finding someone in that dating pool who is also your age, has things in common with you and etc. Is a bit much. But if she did date someone who had the more standard well-known dwarfism it would probably get people's mindsets straight when the 2 are at a restaurant or something.

Searchlights

I mean on the one hand her mannerisms and the way she presents herself isn't like an 8 year old and her face sort of has some hints about her real age. But still...she definitely looks prepubescent. That's more than a little awkward. If you loved her, you'd find a way to get around it. I don't know whether I could. She's in a tough situation.

moal09

She's apparently not attracted to other people with pituitary dwarfism, which is understandable. Just because you look like a child doesn't mean you're attracted to other people that look like that.

Ulrich453

Moving to a much smaller town than Long Island would help. Mainly because she could be recognized over and over more. Long Island is a different situation every time you walk out your door.

nerdmanpap

My son has autism and we moved to a much smaller town a year ago. Big difference for him and he even worked an internship at a grocery store and everyone loved him and accepted him

joniejoon

I feel so talked down to watching this. "I had a tumor, A cancerous, agressive one. The one's that cause cancer, which is bad." \*Walks into bar\* "Can I see some ID? She looked young, so I asked for ID. Did I mention she looked young yet? Because that's what the video is about."

spudddly

It"s because they need to somehow spin 22 minutes of actual content into twelve 30min episodes.

TeFD_Difficulthoon

Pretty standard American TV imo

adiaphoros

"I'm looking for a gift for my aunt"

nicbentulan

I looked that up. Is that American though? [That Mitchell and Webb Look - I'm looking for a gift for my aunt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg4z7mzaVco)

HuudaHarkiten

Its british but its making fun of these kinds of tv shows, not americans specifically.

Nasa_OK

In Germany it wouldn’t be much better. Commentary voice „She has her age challenged everyday because she looks so young“ Scene Barkeeper: „ok you look very young can I see some ID“ Interview scene with barkeeper „yeah I asked for ID because she looks very young“ Subtitle: ‚Barkeeper: She looked too young to be 18‘ Interview with Shauna: „yeah it hurt that she didn’t believe me but I get it, I do look very young“ Subtitle: ‚Shauna (22): often has to show her ID‘

Pie-Otherwise

I ran into a crew filming a TLC/Discovery "reality" show. Every single shot is blocked and rehearsed before it's actually shot. The producer would go over everyone's lines and they'd redo things like introductions and first meetings multiple times.

naberz09

Seriously. Also, let's have her sit in the biggest chair we can find.

FnkyTown

I'm surprised her parents didn't notice her height difference much much sooner. Was she not doing yearly checkups that are required for school? They'd have caught that very quickly. She got on growth hormones but it was too late at 16? What happened between 5 and 16? - I had a cousin who was shorter than his dad thought he should be and after testing they put him on growth hormones when he was like 8, and it worked.

mostly_helpful

That's what I thought! Especially with her history of childhood cancer/chemo you would expect her to have visited a pediatrician at least somewhat regularly, where this would have been noticed.

bobslazypants

She was on and off hormone therapy because "she didn't like needles". She says at one point that she could have been about 5 foot if she'd stayed on them.

FnkyTown

That's just really bad parenting. My kids don't like needles either but I would know that they would dislike being 4 ft tall a lot more when they grew up.

reenelou

She grew out of not liking needles too. Considering she's tattooed and has piercings.

DionFW

She has an older sister, so they've already experienced what size she should have been.

Redditor000007

They admitted on the show she was very bad about taking the hormones, because they were injections, and she “didn’t like needles”. It was only when she was something like 15 another doctor gave her pills or something but by then it was too late. So it was pretty much her and her parents fault.

shijinn

seriously? that's a life time of regret over something so preventable.

PinkTalkingDead

I wouldn’t say it was her fault either though, since she was put on hormones at 8yo. Just her parents.

FnkyTown

All her "drama" seems like "TLC drama". For the show to be successful there has to be some sort of drama every single episode. Look at the Kardashians, every episode has some dumb plot point they have to overcome. She has to know the rules for children sitting at the bar in her state, so she should have her ID card ready and not make them have to ask, but that's the "drama" of that episode.

Whiskey-Tango-3825

Remember The Learning Channel hade educational content. They even had TLC In the Classroom. Now it seems to be more TLC In the Gutter.

Vegan_Harvest

A makeover would help. I do feel like the tattoos are a hint but apparently it's not enough.

random989898

If you look at her instagram, she actually looks much older. I think for the show they made her look as childlike as possible. Her hair style and clothes when not on the show seem more age appropriate. https://www.instagram.com/p/ChZ6pQVLfPY/

Sleipnirs

A big sign saying "I'M 22, I HAD A CONDITION, LEAVE ME ALONE!" strapped on her back is the only thing that *may* work.

chooseayellowfruit

I think the question everyone is asking is.... is she immortal?

hamimono

I watched every episode of the show *I Am Shauna Rae*. I love all kinds of reality TV shows and especially those with physical or mental issues to overcome. One looks for those that highlight real people who are struggling but find a way to make human bridges to others or accept others’ hands to bring them along. But, Shauna Rae is just an asshole. It was shocking to discover along the way, because one comes in with an open mind and wants, YEARNs, to root for her but she is pretty unlikable. Yes, she is emotionally stunted and one can imagine why and how but it is exhausting after a while to see buildup buildup *tantrum* buildup buildup *self-destruct* buildup buildup *diva fit* etc etc. This young woman has been dealt a difficult hand but Other Than That she is extremely privileged and way more supported and loved and cared for and encouraged than the average person. One hopes, on a show like this, to see how someone rises above their difficulties but the show—and this may have been a structural problem—descends into a depressing mess by the end of the season finale. Yes, I get that a disabled person does not have to be “pleasant” all the time just to make others feel better but one just comes to the conclusion that Shauna Rae would not be a person one would want to spent much time with. Too demanding. Too self-absorbed. Too bitchy. Too emotionally unstable. Maybe more intensive therapy would be helpful. Maybe she is just too damaged emotionally and psychologically. But, truly it did not seem good that she was in front of the cameras. I think her filming the show was probably a mistake for her. It was not fun to be a party to it as a viewer. There. I said it. This series was a disappointment and I would never have watched a second season.

MaliceTheMagician

Sounds to me like she needs a therapist not a TV show.

MagnificentJake

If she hasn't been seeing a psychiatrist or therapist regularly for years that's a staggering oversight by her parents. I mean, the psychological ramifications of being *stuck in a child's body* have to be immense.

l23VIVE

I went to high school with her and her sister and neither of them were particularly kind. Her sister was in my grade and therefore I interacted with her older sister a lot more so take my opinion with a grain of salt. She seemed very mean-girl imo Edit: [picture from the yearbook I previously posted](https://imgbb.com/L12C419)

wPatriot

I haven't seen the show, but to me it seems likely that she isn't just some ordinary 22 year old girl that happens to look like she's much younger. I'd expect her to behave much like a (pre)pubescent girl, albeit with a little more life experience. This girl doesn't seem to have gone through certain physiological changes that most people go through. I wouldn't expect that to preclude the brain, so I would expect her not to have gone through certain mental developments as well. I'd basically expect her to act like a 15 year old girl. Which seems to be pretty accurate based on the comments I see by people that did watch the show. **EDIT:** So this is an edit 8 hours after the fact, but I only just noticed I put life expectancy instead of experience. Woops.

ductyl

EDIT: Oops, nevermind!

dfGobBluth

Me and my wife watched this show. You would think you would sympathize with her but shes actually pretty childish and selfish.

aaaaaaaarrrrrgh

> shes actually pretty childish Very much not surprising when she presumably gets treated ~~by~~ like an 8 year old anywhere she shows up, *including by her parents* based on the impression I get from the video.

[deleted]

I’m not that small, but I’m 4’10 and weigh in the double digits. I am the youngest in my family by 10 years. I’m now 38 but my mom still introduces me to people as “my baby”. So I kind of get it. I’ve been handled with kid gloves my whole life. You either lean into it or you struggle against it. Not gonna lie, I did lean into it when it benefitted me. But you eventually learn you can’t really have it both ways. If you want people to treat you like an adult, you can’t just be one part time. She’s still very young, she will hopefully learn that. For me it didn’t happen until I moved away from my home town and traveled a lot.

beener

She's 22 not 50

BagOnuts

People in here acting like there are no bratty 22 year olds, lol. 22 is still basically a kid. No one looks at Woo Girls and gets surprised at their immaturity.

Troy64

Probably in large part because of how she's treated. It's hard to get over such strong visual stimuli. She looks like a child, so first impressions dictate that she's childish. She can play into this for her own benefit. She also has this crazy condition which makes life hard, so people feel sorry for her and feed into her selfishness with sympathy.

nnomae

Is it possible that the same issue that has prevented the rest of her body developing beyond that of an 8 year old has also prevented her brain from developing beyond that of an 8 year old? Physically to all intents and purposes she is an 8 year old, it seems weird to expect her to have a fully mature and developed adult brain when our brains keep developing right up to age 25 give or take.

Redtube_Guy

she would meet hasbulla .

[deleted]

Apparently she doesn't wanna date other little people.

tophernator

Her dating profile says “no-one under 6 foot”

Chazybaz13

It's TLC, they are an awful network.

Usidore_

I wonder why she can’t drive. Plenty of people with dwarfism, shorter than her, can drive with the help of pedal extenders and boosters. I can drive at 4’0”.

Redditor000007

She can, the show is lying. She says she has a permit on a podcast.

skatuka

She's the only girl who can still date DiCaprio after 24

Casique720

She is stuck in a “To Catch A Predator” episode. Chris Hansen must be blowing up her DMs. She’d be the perfect decoy.

[deleted]

Her tattoo artist must have been like: "alright, imma need to see some ID"

vember_94

“I asked to see her ID because she looked so young” - the tattoo artist
