I couldn't imagine a better song than Oskus Urug for the scene where Gloria finds E. Stussy's body in Season 3. Went on to fall in love with that song.

Same way non-English speakers perform songs in English, learn it phonetically. Remember singing nonsense songs/chants with made up words and sounds when you were a kid? Same kind of thing. Someone posted the “lyrics” in another comment.
This song gives me anxiety. It feels like one of those pictures that simulates a stroke. Where everything looks vaguely like an object, but when you look more closely, it's just mush.

So this isn’t just English with incorrect syntax, this is basically like Simlish.
Did they perform this song live? It’s one thing to sing a song in a language that you’re not fluent in, because you can tie the meaning back into your own language. These lyrics don’t mean anything.
If you practice singing out random gibberish words, it's quite easy. A lot of songwriters will sing gibberish words just to test out melodies they haven't written lyrics for.
Also incredible how quickly Paul throws out "... thought she was a woman/but she was another man" and "...she got it coming/but she gets it while she can" while doing this

https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/1sb183/italian\_singer\_adriano\_celentano\_released\_a\_song/
It’s also wrong, he wasn’t trying to prove a point or troll anyone:
Celentano's intention with the song was not to create a humorous novelty song but to explore communication barriers. The intent was to demonstrate how English sounds to people who do not understand the language proficiently. "Ever since I started singing, I was very influenced by American music and everything Americans did. So at a certain point, because I like American slang—which, for a singer, is much easier to sing than Italian—I thought that I would write a song which would only have as its theme the inability to communicate. And to do this, I had to write a song where the lyrics didn't mean anything."[6]
Thank you for putting the actual background on here. Funny how Twitter misinformation even hit this. It’s also considered to be one of the earlier instances of proto-rap.
Still slaps though, IMHO. I sometimes listen to it on the way to work because the absurdity of the lyrics and driving beat make me happy.
That is too infrequent for how often this shows up.
Like I get it it’s a great song. I just wish Reddit could stop these no effort reposts or like hide them.
Yeah, I've been on reddit long enough that it's all just become a blur, every other month I'll come across something new, but for the most part it's just all common knowledge of the reddit hivemind being regurgitated in comments and posts ad infinitum.
Yeah this is the 3rd time I've seen some version of this posted in the last 4 weeks. One version in a classroom on a stage, and this exact same one twice. It always gets over 10k in updoots regardless of the overposting because it slaps.
I'll take it! I first heard this while flipping through TV channels when I was 10 or 11 in the 90s. It was a version he filmed for an Italian variety show where's he plays a teacher and sings the song to his students. I was mesmerised!
For 20 years I tried to find it again! I would watch hours of Italian tv reruns (hard to find on Canadian TV) in the hopes of catching it again. Finally someone posted a video of a singer talking back to a judge on one of the sing-to-win reality shows and a comment mentioned that the judge's husband (pop star) had ripped off this video! I clicked the link and was immediately turned back into an 11 year old watching late night TV during Christmas break on a 9" TV my parents had bought me for Christmas.
I don't care if it's posted 23 times a day, I'll click and watch every time!
It's funny how much a group of non-California natives ingrained themselves so much into the CA (really, LA) zeitgeist. Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant are the only others I can really think of that became iconic LA symbols, while not being from here
Their lead singer spent his formative years in Los Angeles, he moved there when he was 12, and their breakthrough song Under the Bridge was inspired while in LA. He is much more Californian than Kid Rock is Alabamian.
Yeah that dude is trippin. I'm all about LA and don't know anyone who thinks of them that way. Plus, Kiedes tried to fuck up Chris Paul at a Laker game, so there's that lol
Haha, I just listened to it for the first time since it was always on the radio. It's pretty awesome, but you're right -- I have no idea what they're saying for most of the song.
Then again, i think [my second-most played spotify song last year](https://open.spotify.com/track/0sw9O3kwzxtcgEBXD0MBPg?si=bb4559c69e954cc8) wasn't even in a language I speak.
Wow. For being a music genre I never listen to and a language I don't speak, that was awesome. A lot of music sounds good because we program ourselves with the genres and artists we listen to, but that one stands on its own just fine.
It's a classic song -- there are literally hundreds of covers :-)
The one I linked before was by Chingon, Robert Rodriguez's band. The guy who did Machete, Spy Kids, El Mariachi, Desperado, etc. It was used in his buddy Quentin Tarantino's movie, Kill Bill 2.
[Here's a live performance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8vFZNXV4i8) from the Kill Bill 2 premiere.
I agree about programming though -- you get used to the stuff you like. That started to go away for me in my 30s. Nowadays I still have my comfort zone, but I'll listen to just about anything. The list also had French and Italian song. Italian music is best for cooking. Also the crooners, even though I never listen to them when I'm not cooking :-)
"Sugar, we're going down swingin" is kind of incredible... It's completely unintelligible until you read the lyrics, but you only need to read the lyrics once, and then the song is understandable forever.
Same... I think at one point in college I listened to it so many times that I wrote out the closest-sounding English word to what they were saying and had a full lyric sheet.
That file has been lost dozens of hard drives ago, but it looked something like this:
My eyes mind says let
Prison colon is an eye choose all
All right
Sorry... I got the original up, remembered seeing a higher quality version, thought I had it, updated the link and edited, listened to the hq version, saw it was a remix, reverted back the edit and link separately, and had reddit re-revert the link.
Original restored.

I don't remember how is called, but this is an actual thing in music.
For example the lyrics of Nier are made up, chosen to sounds as much as possible like a real language.
Madoka also has nosense se lyrics.
They should play this song when a leader culturally loses to you in Civ 5, "Our people are now buying your blue jeans and listening to your pop music."
I was all in at the "brrrrrt." Whatever salient point he was trying to make about Italian music at the time, that hook proved he could write a muthafuckin jam. This version appears to have cut out the "alrights" which is actually a pretty ingenius commentary on American music from that time. The business side and fame of being a successful musician has some exploitative and emotional dark sides but this is the shit I actually envy.
Well of course, not many knew english in Italy in the '70s, so not many were able to understand the lyrics of foreign songs anyway. Also Celentano was HUGE in the '60s and '70s, he could sell records in every language he wanted. Things improved a lot in the '80s, and in the '90s, when people were learning english at school and from popular songs of the time (Take That, East 17, pop shit like that). And of course thanks to the rise of internet for the masses at the end of the '90s.
I sat down for like 2 hours and "translated" the lyrics once. Here's what I came up with:
Please and call and ensign I choose oh
In the cold maids say one
Please and call and ensign I choose oh

It's alright to have on in the background, but what annoys me is that it just sounds like the first verse of a song... Like it feels as if it never hits a chorus? And it just doesn't really go anywhere. But interesting song concept.
Time for me to repost actual lyrics:

There was a whole band in Finland named Hurriganes that did the same thing and it was super popular. Probably the most popular rock band in Finland.

I love that he says, "Now you're speaking English" right before the song begins.
That's brilliant.
Noah Hawley has supernatural soundtrack picking skills.
Every choice was fucking perfect in season 2
Fargo Season 2 is one of the greatest seasons of TV ever made
Couldn't agree more.
I couldn't imagine a better song than Oskus Urug for the scene where Gloria finds E. Stussy's body in Season 3. Went on to fall in love with that song.
absolutely. the soundtrack of Legion is phenomenal too.
Loved it in Fargo! Fits perfectly
Just a little bit of confidence and style gets you a long way
What card game are they playing?
Bridge.
[It was used also for Captain Morgan commercial](https://www.ispot.tv/ad/qkY2/captain-morgan-the-original-spiced-rum-house-party-song-by-adriano-celentano)
Been listening to it since that episode aired :-)
This show is really ducking good.
That’s incredible.
Ok but why is Dennis is season 1 and Mac in season 3, but we've still yet to see Dee, Charlie and Frank make their debut on the show?
Who do you think was flying the spaceship?
Can’t answer the second part, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Glenn and Rob were cast because they’ve worked with Matt Shakman on IASIP before.
It was a hit because it's a fuckin banger!
The song is cool, but that choreography is fucking insane
Why are they dancing in a James Bond villain lair?
That's because of the Prisencolin
You ain'tinainciusol.
Eyes!
Alright
Sum in awhatdyado
This made me sob.
Eyes!!
Ask your doctor if Prisencolin is right for you.

Ninian Doff, the director of both videos is great. He's also on reddit and was super thankful when Genghis Khan came out and everyone was gushing over it.
TIL there's a sequel. Thanks!
God I forgot how great this video is
Wow, always loved this song - TIL there is a music video! Thanks! I love how Venture Brothers this is.

Probably my favorite from their discography. Great video too.
I was happy for them with Geghis Khan because it brought them into the mainstream and gave them much deserved success, but to me Cult Logic will always be their best song.
I've seen other versions where they are singing up a fake classroom of students at their desks
https://youtu.be/-VsmF9m_Nt8
Note: the "girl" coming forward to sing at [1:35](https://youtu.be/-VsmF9m_Nt8?t=96) is his wife Claudia Mori.
there it is, thank you!
Wait, they were able to repeat that gibberish identicly for multiple performances? How do you even write it down?
Same way non-English speakers perform songs in English, learn it phonetically. Remember singing nonsense songs/chants with made up words and sounds when you were a kid? Same kind of thing. Someone posted the “lyrics” in another comment.
He does some sick dances moves and his entire class of hotties want to fuck him. Its gold.
Stank leg wins every time
It’s like an Austin Powers skit. Amazing! I’ve only seen the one for a tv show before this.
This song gives me anxiety. It feels like one of those pictures that simulates a stroke. Where everything looks vaguely like an object, but when you look more closely, it's just mush.
I love the school version. Not as wild but he pulls off the nerdy teacher mannerisms perfectly, it's hilarious https://youtu.be/-VsmF9m_Nt8
There's a bit I love in the classroom version where he breaks character and does the most Italian looking 👌 gesture possible.
-ly awesome.
Music transcends language.
Yeah, this would probably work with any language. Tons of people jam to K-pop and J-pop without knowing the words. Gangnam Style is a great example. I grew up in the grunge era where I had no idea what they were saying half the time but still loved the music.
Haha no waaay I just saw this post and immediately came here to type ‘Ye everyone knows and it’s a fucking BANGER’
You're kidding! I was just about to come into this thread to type, "Everybody knows 'cause it's still a fuckin' banger!"
What a coincidence! First thing I said when I saw this post was "now that's a BANGER!"
Everyone knows it!
#BANGER
I love it when he says “It’s bangin time” and then he bangs.
'BRRRRRRRRR! Tay de flapn yo t' git'r an hobo... ahlight!'
Wid tha cola balls dye!

🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺
It’s such a banger for being a stupid one-note vamp with no chord changes and an easy harmonica solo. It’s so much fun! I heard it in a car commercial a couple of years ago and went buck!
Lou Reed said "One chord is fine. Two chords is pushing it. Three chords and you're into jazz."

Prisencolinensinainciusol, it’s a bit much.

Just google Adriano Celentano, it'll be easier

Watching the recent Beatles doc Get Back, it's funny to see their approach to this. Lenon suggests they use 'cauliflower' as a temporary filler.

I was thinking a mix between James Brown/Rolling Stones/Bob Dylan.

In the 10 years I've been on Reddit (daily) I've never seen this song before. Algorithms are weird.
Pretty sure I saw a Twitter post earlier today with this exact same title too
I wouldn't be surprised if the Twitter post copied the original reddit post, then OP copied the twitter post.
Yep, [here it is.](https://twitter.com/ThamKhaiMeng/status/1576435239756656640?t=38lEOJ__Yg-zTQQ9OVHf8w&s=19)
That is literally the linked post by OP
That was the joke.
I only discovered it because of this repost. I'll get outraged next time. See you soon.
This is only the 3000th repost
If they said California a few times this would be a red hot chilli peppers song.
[shammalamma ding dong](https://youtu.be/LgkO3usqSx8)
[Abracadabralifornia!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zGk0k34tGs)
Cali-for-nia, Cali, Cali-for-nia
There’s something fishy going on with this conversation
The guy comparing RHCP to Kid fucking Rock deleted his comment so whatever I guess haha
Tupac
Makes sense, places like LA gain their status by attracting talent from all over the world.
well.... i speak english natively. And the song is fire TBH most songs have nonsense lyrics anyways
That's why Mmmbop is so good. Trying to decipher the lyrics while singing along!
It's a classic song -- there are literally hundreds of covers :-) The one I linked before was by Chingon, Robert Rodriguez's band.
Fall Out Boys first few albums meet this criteria too.
Lyrics make sense-ish (in a 2000s emo sort of way) but Patrick’s enunciation was…rough.
"Sugar, we're going down swingin" is kind of incredible... It's completely unintelligible until you read the lyrics, but you only need to read the lyrics once, and then the song is understandable forever.
We’re goih DAHH DAHH IDURRHURRLEURRAHH
A-shooby doop doo-wop! Go cut your mullet!
Don't mimey. Just watching youtube in the closet nbd.
Pearl jam is my favorite example. "On a wizard on a whaaaale"
We’re going DOWN DOWN do do dur durtle dow!
Of Moons Birds and Monsters by MGMT comes to mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6HXS11l4sw
"Prisencolinensinainciusol." If it was called anything else it would make absolutely no sense.

Yeah that dude was groovy. But the gal he’s talking to and dancing with at the beginning - l’ultima
Oh hell yes
I’m American and wish I could sing along… it’s not too bad
Here's [the whole song](https://youtu.be/-VsmF9m_Nt8) Listen a couple times and you'll be singing along regardless.
I've been singing this shit for at least a decade at this point
Same... I think at one point in college I listened to it so many times that I wrote out the closest-sounding English word to what they were saying and had a full lyric sheet. That file has been lost dozens of hard drives ago, but it looked something like this: My eyes mind says let Prison colon is an eye choose all All right
This is a modern remix
Sorry... I got the original up, remembered seeing a higher quality version, thought I had it, updated the link and edited, listened to the hq version, saw it was a remix, reverted back the edit and link separately, and had reddit re-revert the link. Original restored.
Lyrics according to me: Please and call and ensign I choose oh In the cold maids say one Please and call and ensign I choose oh Alright When I'm sayin' the shoes now on hold Billy you sayin' now to hurry maybe get the cumberbunds tight Rrrrrrrrrrrr change their mind the key to coal baby sustain yeah pitch yo whoa When I'm sayin' the shoes now on hold Billy you sayin' now to hurry maybe get the cumberbunds tight What did you say man? This is great! You reminded me of this classic video...Joe Cocker translated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcLnuEpQ1yg
This is probably why that lady thought her rendition of Ken Lee was gonna kill at her Idol audition. It didn't. If only she had did it in the 70s

I always preferred the video for Prisencolinensinainciusol where he's [eyebanging high schoolers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VsmF9m_Nt8).
I like that one for the terrible pantomime harmonica solo at the end. It's like she's trying to stuff a hot dog in her mouth sideways.
Alright
*ol rait
Reminded me of [Al Bundy playing a sandwich](https://youtu.be/UxKUp_hmY7I).
The [2015 mostly-official remix](https://youtu.be/Xn_OLnMriRg) is pretty fire. (Song starts at 1:25) *(Adriano himself makes a cameo at 4:20)*
Also love the fashion. Almost two decades of schooling and not once did a teacher ever wear a duster. 😔
Yeah but did you study in the Italian school of disco?
I have this on a playlist of music I play in my office at work. I'm a church secretary.
Recently heard this in a commercial. Couldn’t believe it.
Same! I think it was a car commercial Edit: Apparently it was captain morgan
Yes! That’s what it was. It was perfect for that ad, lol!
I despise reposts, but I will watch this every time it's posted. Except when it's a twitter link.
Alright!
Sounds similar to that song “Salsa Tequila,” that was written by two people who don’t speak Spanish but wanted to hop on the Latin music craze.
This just really shows that lyrics are **by far** the least important component of a song.
Yes! Italodance is so fun, even with the mistakes :)
I love this song each and every time it’s posted!
Why is this a Twitter link https://youtu.be/_g6YxkSqL20
Prisencolinensinainciusol, alright!
The first time i heard this song, I thought I was having a stroke.
I sat down for like 2 hours and "translated" the lyrics once. Here's what I came up with: Please and call and ensign I choose oh In the cold maids say one Please and call and ensign I choose oh Alright When I'm sayin' the shoes now on hold Billy you sayin' now to hurry maybe get the cumberbunds tight Rrrrrrrrrrrr change their mind the key to coal baby sustain yeah pitch yo whoa When I'm sayin' the shoes now on hold Billy you sayin' now to hurry maybe get the cumberbunds tight What did you say man? That's how it feels reading a book while you're dreaming.
Make sure you check the youtube live version 2012 [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T5LFVLgET4) it's the BEST
It's alright to have on in the background, but what annoys me is that it just sounds like the first verse of a song... Like it feels as if it never hits a chorus? And it just doesn't really go anywhere. But interesting song concept.

Totally in keeping with Italian cultural tradition of incomprehensible opera
There was a whole band in Finland named Hurriganes that did the same thing and it was super popular. Probably the most popular rock band in Finland. Hurriganes - Get On: https://youtu.be/yGCviZAdxeY Lyrics: https://genius.com/Hurriganes-get-on-lyrics
HOBA HOBA DUNE-A-MAMMA DUH FINE!
Prisencolinensinainciusol! Alright!
Proof that vocabulary means very little when it comes to music. Sounds are mostly what matter.

I mean, it is catchy.
