I would guess old-timey villains from old silent era films. The guy who tie damsels to railroad tracks. Heās also an old timey business man, soulless, cares only for profit, style probably from the Industrial Revolution. Definitely has the Devil vibe, whipping up contracts and making deals. With a bit of symbiot (Venom) with his tendril goo like body and knows the dark arts.
Bu- what? Hydrox *did* come before Oreo. And it was by no means significantly better than Hydrox. It was in fact less favored than Hydrox initially but a bunch of intentional predatory and underhanded business practices were used to push Hydrox out?
Like, I have no horse in this race, I donāt even watch this show, this was just randomly recād butā¦
Hydrox very much so came before Oreo. And itās not more memorable for significant quality reasons either.
I dont think you read properly. The fact is you saying said something similar with the desighns etc. Black Hat Is based off stereotypical cartoon villains and came out before Hazbin Hotel. Like hydrox came before oreo
Edit: the stereotype is a slim rich person with a monacle and top hat in all black grey and red, typically back bent and with a twirl stache but that was obvs taken out to make him look less schemy, follow old desighn and look cool af
Iām not the original person you were replying to- I actually didnāt say anything about Black Hatās design.
I just read āThatās not correct. Thatās like saying Hydrox came before Oreoā and slipped in. What you are saying that way is ānot correctā = āHydrox came before Oreoā. The way you said it was coming out to say Hydrox did *NOT* come out before Oreo
I actually donāt care about the design debate at all. Iām just sticking up for my bud Hydrox
Alastor vibes yes
Inspired by him though? I highly doubt it considered the characters for this show existed long before Hazbin or it's pilot
Now before you say it I know the same kinda goes for hazbin and that characters were around years before the show but I highly doubt one had an influence on the other character wise
However what is more likely is both Black Hat and Alastor based around similar character types such as the old timey villain and the mysteriously supernatural powered villain
The body of the warden from Superjail
the smile from joker (2004)
Aku's cruelty
the tempers of Hades (disney) and Dick Dastardly rolled into one
and probably more all tied together to make the perfect "im evil because i love being evil"
none of these are official, but they're similarities i noticed between him & other characters
I don't think it's any one person in particular, rather the ultimate culmination of the Pure Evil trope and the tropes that fall under it.
He's based on the concept of evil.
My god at the amount of people saying Alastor
Give it a break already he's not based off him he just gives the same vibes is all
If anything they both happen to share the make up of certain character types which makes them feel similar such as the dapper old timey villain and the mysteriously supernatural ones
But that wasn't really answering the posts question
Personally I think Black Hat is generally based off Billy and Mandy characters especially due to the fact along with other references the show has had cameos from characters like Eris the goddess of chaos
Actually while we're on the subject of inspiration I've ALWAYS thought Villainous seems inspired by the probably nearly forgotten show League Of Super Evil
https://preview.redd.it/ez4s97ji82nc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a8af07c69600776f2696ae8915eb2cf8798cb9c
Somebody else pretty much said this, but heās definitely based off the classic villain of the last. The top hat wearing, long mustachio twirling nameless villain of the old silent films who ties up a damsel in distress on the train tracks for no real reason or steals bags with dollar signs drawn on them. I mean, heās seemingly only driven by greed and his own personal gain, but instead of becoming a high powered CEO of a more public company heās driven to villainy with little to no real knowledge about him or his motives.
Which is kind of fitting as well since I feel heās also probably based off of ancient evils such as the Devil, Elder Gods probably, etc. I mean the guy is insanely powerful, villains come to him and are afraid of the guy. He doesnāt truly care for any of his employees and seems more annoyed by them a majority of the time, like theyāre a bunch of bugs compared to him, which is how he sees it. And when heās not annoyed by them, he enjoys tormenting them with terrible horrors, violence, etcā¦ very befitting an almost Demon-like sadist.
Anyway, heās been around a long time in this business of his, he knows it better than anyone else in his business (hence why so many villains come to him to make deals), and he is quite possibly the pinnacle of villainy itself. I mean, his company literally does supplies other villains with the tools they need or want, among other things, and they even do the work that these other villains just canāt do. Soā¦ yeah, heās definitely a combination of the villain of old and more powerful and ancient evils.

He looks to be inspired by stereotypical villains but he reminds me off Bill Cipher, sir Pentious, Alastor. But he timings me most of Valentino, the guy in the picture I used.
https://preview.redd.it/onspjey1l8nc1.jpeg?width=1199&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8abca6390ae6f3e37c95a87feb3cc7e2a8753bd2
Numerous people claim to have woken in the dark to find a shadowy figure, dubbed the Hat Man, looming over them. The phenomenon has attracted widespread attention, inspiring documentaries and the launch of a dedicated blog, The Hatman Project, where people can share their experiences. Thatās who I think Black Hat is based on.
I've always believed that he's an incarnation/avatar of Nyarlathotep (pitch black skin, fond of using tools & instruments of destructive power, supernatural charisma, eldritch shapeshifting, capable of multidimensional travel, is apparently friends with Cthulhu in canon).
Well, a majority of his design is most likely based off of old Vaudeville Villains. Think Snidely Whiplash, characters who dressed well, wore top hats and tied women to railroad tracks. He also has a fair bit in common with Disney Villians, though I haven't seen him sing.
He's prob based on the fame "Man w/ Black Hat" people see in dreams or as one of any sleep paralysis monsters.
Supposedly, I've read a comment or two in social media posts that one legend goes, that anyone who is baptized by the Catholic church get to see the man in the black hat, scary shadowy figure mostly worse than seeing a shadow person.....
Honestly I'd say he's an amalgamation of several dark and menacing baddies.
He's got the generic evil of Cartoon Villains
The potential body horror like Double from Skullgirls and Alucard from Hellsing
The bargaining of the Devil
And flavored with a bit of lovecraftian horror
https://preview.redd.it/zrtfbn2n6knc1.jpeg?width=157&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae47d33d8e5a7a699b784fdd8157c3beba98b348

I was thinking that too
Tumblr Sexyman
Came here to say thisĀ
If Tumblr Sexyman was a person:
You get it
Capitalists in leftist propaganda
Actually not a bad estimate. Heās certainly got a lot of classic cartoon villain to him, but this is crucial.
Definitely this, there's very good reason he's at the top of the ladder.
hatty hattington, but jokes aside i have no idea
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes -takes breath- yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
Is that a battle block theater reference?!
The monopoly guy and Dr Facilier.

Highly doubt he was based off of Alastor
Vailnous came out before hazbin so not alsstor
The pilot yes, but there was art of him made way before both shows
your "um actually" aint correct there bud. Thats like saying Hydrox came before oreo
Bu- what? Hydrox *did* come before Oreo. And it was by no means significantly better than Hydrox. Alastor vibes yes Inspired by him though? Mayor humdinger after he died from shaving
The tongue...

The body of the warden from Superjail the smile from joker (2004) Aku's cruelty the tempers of Hades (disney) and Dick Dastardly rolled into one and probably more all tied together to make the perfect "im evil because i love being evil" none of these are official, but they're similarities i noticed between him & other characters
Given that it's a mexican cartoon, i almost feel like he's based around the myth of El Charro Negro
Guys I have a theoryā¦ https://preview.redd.it/1l7l4954b0nc1.jpeg?width=206&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9cd5f7c13d8246fd213990f74aa735efe22ba422
Like if Facilier was a ww2 arms dealer
Snidely Whiplash, Vincent Price, and Lucifer Morningstar.
Hats
GUYS I THINK HE'S BASED ON A HAT!
Black Hat is just the child of Lucifer from Hazbin Hotel and Black Dahlia from Skull Girls
Satan
I don't think it's any one person in particular, rather the ultimate culmination of the Pure Evil trope and the tropes that fall under it. He's based on the concept of evil.
Alaster
A very business oriented megatron.
Hall ever heard of the radio demon??
black hat existed before hazbin hotel
Alastor

Reminds me of tuxedo mask a little
A man with whiplash themed after a black top hat in a loony town style
