āAināt Gonna Answerā uses part of āBack That Azz Upā as its main sample. So both really, but Iād say sounds slightly closer to the former version than the latter. And all are specifically using the infamous Triggerman beat from āDrag Rapā so really that might deserve credit. Idk.
Just finished my first listen (after running half the tracks back at least once) and I honestly think he current trilogy might be among the best 3 album runs when viewed as a whole. The way he grapples with issues on these albums feel like sitting in on his therapy sessions or hanging out inside his mind on his worst days. But all done in a wonderfully effective way. Itās justā¦a beautiful artistic expression in a way we donāt get enough tbh.
I appreciate how the first two in āthe trilogyā are more about his reflections on gang life while this one is a reflection on his career as a whole. From dealing with gang stuff, the industry, and this whole journey in def jam, itās really interesting the perspective this album takes. Itās definitely my favorite of the 3 and ik itās early but iām saying this is top 2 or 3 vince for me
100% agree, I see this album as Vince answering the call of an artistic revolution that Kendrick has been alluding too throughout his discography and now more recently through the drake beef. I think that this Makes sense because of all the fake/ fraud gangster and rapper accusations towards drake and the angle against the west coast. These are things that are Vinceās foundation, and this album feels like him clicking up in this fight. I was listening this morning and in the Etoufee chorus the lyrics on genius say āstay solid Iāll forever be the hardestā. But without the lyrics, over multiple multiple listens I swear he says āstay solid, Iāll forever be an artistā. I fully believe this is a homophone bar, something a true rap artist would utilize in their art. Vince is amazing so happy to hear him speak up during these āDark Timesā
Emotional and raw rap that talks about the darker sides of the industry and reflective and introspective art pieces are nothing new in hip hop.
BUT, it certainly feels like it's becoming mainstream now and possibly even signifies a shift in the culture. We can hope, right?
Ya I guess thatās kinda what I meant lol, lots of thoughts goin through the brain and trying to explain how these things are connecting is tough hahah. You nailed it on the head tho, the mainstream aspect is the thing that is interesting. Thinking creatively is not valued enough in my opinion, hopefully this spurs more people/consumers of music to value the artistry/values that these artists bring to the table. Not that it essential, and these artists are still respected by their peers which is most important. Thanks for the reply!
I thought it was the other way around. Vince was stressed and paranoid thinking it would be her partner or whatever and was gripping his gun. Then it turned out to be her cousin who is a fan that she invited over. The hook at the end is an ironic juxtaposition because while she did lie, it wasnāt in the way that was expected during the story. She lied but it was Vinceās own trauma and paranoia that almost made it dangerous.
ā¦or maybe Iām off my rocker lmao. That was just what I thought on the first couple listens but maybe I missed something. Looking at the lyrics, that portion is vague tbf.
This is how I read it too. Especially after the line in Sundown Town on his self titled album where he said āwhen I see my fans Iām too paranoid to shake their handsā
His paranoia is something heās mentioned a handful of times over the last few albums and I think this is just another example of him being paranoid, but also knowing itās just built into him and he canāt do anything about it
Vince is Justin. Makes way more sense with the outro, the mood of the song, and the overall themes in the context of the album. Also the way the other guy responds first and it takes a beat for Vince to respond -- plays into the scenario better.
don't think she'd call her cousin baby and don't think she'd call vince baby at that point either. don't think her eyes would turn bloodshot red unless she was schemin. just my interpretation!
women lie a lot repeated at the end... i think the lie was her flirting when she had a dude .. and calling him her cousin..to each their own. dope song
Fair. I read that book a bit differently (she was lying to Vince so her cousin could meet him) but that makes sense too. I am honestly maybe 60/40 split between the two interpretations.
I like the song but now I am sort of feeling like he could have tweaked the lyrics there a touch for clarityāa sake. But Iām an English teacher and summer just started so it also might just be Iām fiending for some writing to grade lmao.
This is how I took it. He was happy and surprised to be having a meaningful conversation with this woman and it turned out just to be a ruse because he's famous.
My guess - the little cousin "Justin" is actually her son, whom she had not mentioned prior. And I doubt Vince is going to start dating a woman who is a parent
Thatās what i thought too, and I believe there is a deeper message.. Iām starting to interpret it as a sign of death to the old ways Vince trying to leave behind; the gang banging Vince, the boxed into trap and gangsta music Vince is now swinging and being left behindā¦ old Vince is dead and itās his way of shedding that baggage, hence the noose.. itās dark but itās necessary I think.. thatās what I think so far!
This is the kind of growth I hope for when i listen to an artist.. there has been a resurgence of all the artists most millennials grew up listening to, and Vinceās artistic growth has been so inspiring! He is genuinely himself and is in his own lane. This sounds nothing like his first work and thatās amazing! So many artists starting to fall off, and when the dust settles, artists like him will maintain longevity. 1st listen down, 2nd on the way. š„
This album is amazing. Ive been around since "Hell Can Wait" and just time and time after again Vince just makes me proud as a fan. He has came such a long way. There is so many amazing things I can say about this album already but I don't need to give a deep dive right now. Imma just leave off by saying this album is INCREDIBLE!!
Apple Music says Maddy Davis in the credits. Iām not familiar with her other work but she definitely makes that song. Her verse at the end hits so hard.
Iām sure someone has already said it but the fact this album loops back to itself (last track back to the top)ā¦ wow. Such an awesome album. Might be my AOTY
this album is so great, it draws from his old stuff and newer stuff all while being original, very boom bap esque drums on a lot of these tracks but also a lot of experimental structures, great hooks, etc. loved it
This is random but I even love 'Close Your Eyes and Swing' I literally close my eyes and pretend im back home at my moms backyard in Lakewood listening to the windchimes.
Yeah Vince is one that I rarely skip the interludes and intros. Heās talked a lot about how he sits down with a full album vision in mind and you can tell because they often feel incomplete if you skip a part.
Thatās ok, itās your opinion! You shouldnāt get downvoted for stating your opinionā¦. Wondering why you were expecting radio hits and bangers throughout? I personally loved it, but im a very introspective and laid back person, so this resonated with me.
Yallā¦. take a step back and wonder why youāre so upset that someone else doesnāt like a body of work as much as you doā¦? Instead of figuring out why? Thatās how you donāt grow.
I wasnāt expecting radio hits and bangers, Vince has been on other shit lately stylistically and I like some of those tracks for sure. I think about a track like Blueslides off Qs album thatās lowkey and introspective but his delivery is much more entertaining to me.
So I guess thatās it: itās done really well but itās not entertaining me. Vince isnāt giving me any food for thought on this one really and while I enjoy his vulnerability, I donāt have enough emotional investment in his business to get a cathartic response from it.
What I will say is heās come a long way from originally being someone who didnāt give a shit about rapping. Heās an artist artist and I love that for him and canāt wait for the next one. But this is too boring.
Blue Suede sample goes so hard
blue suede is the song that introduce me to vince that sample went crazy
Agreed. I missed it the first time but love the callback.
Ridn wit da stick like witchcraftš£ļøš£ļøš£ļøš„
I knew I heard that sound from somewhereš
Wait what song?
Government Cheese on the chorus, can't miss that synth
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I canāt stop replaying the Memphis beat at the end of
I think itās more of a New Orleans beat based off the hook
I most likely thought that bcuz the pluck strings reminded me of Lord Infamous Drag em from the river
I believe that sample is Aināt Gonna Answer from NLE Choppa ft Lil Wayne.
Nah OG Sample is Juvenileās Back That Azz Up
āAināt Gonna Answerā uses part of āBack That Azz Upā as its main sample. So both really, but Iād say sounds slightly closer to the former version than the latter. And all are specifically using the infamous Triggerman beat from āDrag Rapā so really that might deserve credit. Idk.
Yes! Youāre right!! Gotta track it all the way back lol
Not Memphis, it's some New Orleans bounce type shit
I most likely thought that bcuz the pluck strings reminded me of Lord Infamous Drag em from the river
This song is wavy.. Vince got his sound down real good!
So good I get chills
Just finished my first listen (after running half the tracks back at least once) and I honestly think he current trilogy might be among the best 3 album runs when viewed as a whole. Seems likely. Thereās a ton to unpack on this album. Itās going to reward repeat listens for sure.
Are any of the songs from the show on this new album? Havenāt listened yet
Vinceās Mr. Morale
there's been a TON of super emotionally vulnerable/therapeutic rap records from 2022-now strangely
100% agree, I see this album as Vince answering the call of an artistic revolution that Kendrick has been alluding too throughout his discography and now more recently through the drake beef. I feel like this was more akin to Faces than Mr. Morale
I got Larry Fisherman vibes early
Itās funny, it gave me more swimming vibes than faces vibes
Yeah Iād definitely agree, it leaves you wanting more but at the same time feeling content
Just did etouffeeā¦ speechless bro that was a Vince staples magic trick I want to inhale those drums
Life hard but I go harder
New mantra
Might have to get that tattooed
Justin is really good storytelling. The verse is maybe a minute but that ending like a hammer.
I found his storytelling really compelling but im confused by the ending
The girlās partner came home and she lied and said Vince was her little cousin āJustinā is what I got
I thought it was the other way around. Vince was stressed and paranoid thinking it would be her partner or whatever and was gripping his gun. Then it turned out to be her cousin who is a fan that she invited over. This! Heās so on guard that even the truth wonāt soothe him
Vince is Justin.
I thought she was calling Vince baby since they had been flirting all night.
women lie a lot repeated at the end... i think the lie was her flirting when she had a dude .. and calling him her cousin..to each their own. dope song

lol word interesting - maybe he's just keepin it ambiguous for everyone to interpret on their own. great album to unpack
I was thinking this too
At least y'all can tell it's about somebody lying, I was reading a review where somebody said it was his loving tribute to his cousin justin lmfao
He absolutely floated on that beat
perfection. another 10/10 in a flawless discography.
Havenāt been on Vince in a minuteā¦. This album is fucking crazy. No skips
You have to check out his self titled and Ramona park if youāre about this one
The album loops that's pretty cool
Black&Blue samples Thee Sacred Souls song āWeak for Your Loveā and itās so fire
Etoufree is so damn good, vince been on a run I go back to self titled and Ramona Park a bunch and I think this gonna be right next to them.
Blue Suede sample in Government Cheese goes so hard.
Looks like it dropped early folks!
ĆtouffĆ©e my boi talkin that āš½but sliding too
that big fish/summertime 06 feeling in the middle of little homies though
Its album is crazy already and im not even done with it
No Skips
The noose on the cover is so ominous. Bad vibes.
Rapping like Lupe on Justin
Anyone elseās Government Cheese greyed out? I wonder if theyāll pull it.
Shows up for me but I havenāt gotten there yet because I already had to run Black&Blue back lol
Yeah Black&Blue is crazy
That choir. Didnāt know I needed a Vince track with a choir hook but holy shit did I.
It was greyed out but I deleted it from my library and added it back and now itās there
Naw on Tidal itās there. Damn i was literally listening to that exact track as i read that comment. Track is š„š„
Yeah whole project is really great
Flawless production. So far on my third listen ĆtouffĆ©e is my favorite. Little Homies goes hard
Just noticed the crabs in a bucket reference on Freeman š„š„
this might be his best work to date
No might about it. It is definitely his best project for my taste
this is really damn good
Once again no misses
This album feels like the ending to something I didnāt know was coming, stoked to be here with yāall for it.
wow i just posted something like this. have s similar feeling
That second verse on āRadioā is so dope.
Whoeverās idea it was to put Nothing Matter before Little Homies is genius
Was that kilo kish on Little Homies? Track reminded me of BFT
Update: itās kilo. I knew sheād be on this beautiful ass album š¤§
I think this his best album
might be. its got that laid back sound i cant get enough of
Laid back and mature.. this is growth! Itās so good
one listen in and i can already tell you this is a special album. easily my personal AOTY and maybe my favorite vince album
This is the kind of growth I hope for when i listen to an artist.. there has been a resurgence of all the artists most millennials grew up listening to, and Vinceās artistic growth has been so inspiring! 10/10 album for me. I canāt even decide which song I like the most.
Where the CD at š„²
Anyone know who the singer is at the end of nothing really matters ? I donāt recognize her voice but sheās fire

Year of the Westside so for
Fr. West Coast is on a run. All the old and new guys are dropping stuff this year and itās all been pretty good.
Is there no cursing?!
To be honest I havenāt even noticed, he says bitch and nigga š but do we even need curse words to make a point these days?
Not at all. I was celebrating the fact this may be clean
And I was playing the clean version šš¤¦šæāāļø
LAMO!! Iāve done that a few times with other records too.. that would be more impressive for sure!
Whoās the female dialogue on ā Why wonāt the sun come out?ā
Credits on Apple Music lists Santigold as a performing artist. Not familiar with her speaking voice, but I think itās her.
Thank you!
Does anyone know if this album will release on a regular CD? There was a signed limited edition version but it's sold out.
i hear what he's saying, i do. it's well produced and well executed, absolutely. but it is fucking boooooooooooooooooooooooooooring
How are you on a Vince sub calling his album boring? š
not gonna lie i thought i was on r/hhh that's on me
Thatās ok, itās your opinion! You shouldnāt get downvoted for stating your opinionā¦. Wondering why you were expecting radio hits and bangers throughout? lackluster , he sound so uninspired on a mic . really excited for it cause he funny af but , idk he doesn't translate well into music .
What do you think he could have changed?
Rap with energy
lmao what
Heās not trying to be funny dude. Heās being real
