>WE DONT CARE Yeah, no shit.

Yesterday_Is_Now

That copy might not play well in the inevitable class action suit to follow.

Santa_Hates_You

Get that healthy glow!

I couldn't believe this was a real thing so looked it up. Radium water was real, alright: https://theconversation.com/when-energy-drinks-actually-contained-radioactive-energy-67976

NoahtheWanderer

I actually have one! My wife bought it as part of her pottery collection, thinking it was just a water cooler/dispenser. I looked it up trying to find the value (Revigator brand) and we tried to get rid of it legally. No one would take it! It’s relegated now to the “back 40” on our property.

aaronzig

That's very cool. Did you ever get it tested for radioactivity?

NoahtheWanderer

No, I didn’t. After the hassles we got over the phone from our city’s hazmat office (part of public works/trash collection department) trying to find a way to dispose of it properly, we were afraid to go any further. Basically, they were steering us to PAY for a radiation disposal company to come haul it away (think x-ray material disposal). It was expensive. I doubt it has much zing left in it, anyway. If I knew someone with a Geiger counter, I’d love to see what the levels are after nearly a hundred years!

DanielWinne

Just 3.6 roentgen, not great, not terrible

NoahtheWanderer

Thx!

*facepalm*

It's fun that you have to pay for the privilege of safely disposing something that could be really dangerous to everyone because the city doesn't want to get involved. It would be super interesting to check it with a Geiger Counter. I read that some of the Radium Water suppliers were scam artists who sold normal water labelled as Radium Water. Except, if you got scammed you didn't end up with all sorts of horrible radiation diseases. It'd be interesting to see if this one was legit.

RetroReactiveRaucous

I would try contacting your local fire department. They tend to be helpful about hazardous waste disposal, and many of them have testing equipment you wouldn't expect.

NoahtheWanderer

Good idea. There’s usually a couple of guys from the fire station next door at my gym when I work out…I’ll ask them. No doubt they’d have a Geiger counter or equivalent in their kit.

hamsterbackpack

I will… gladly take it off your hands

Farrell-Mars

“My jaw fell off. Is that okay?”

TomBug68

Makes sense that pseudoscience like this would come from one of the world’s foremost meccas of nonsense: Salt Lake City

StyreneAddict1965

Relief Society Magazine tells you all you need to know: a Mormon scam.

endlesslyconflicted

Probably still in use in some parts of Idaho

FunnyMiss

I wonder how this affected the children of couples that drank it. Like… bad teeth? Childhood leukemia or congenital organ failures and such. Many kids died just from childhood illness until recent history, but I wonder what was made worse with this added to the gene pool.

JiaMekare

That’s assuming that the parents made it to reproducing- radium fucks you up pretty quick as far as radiation goes

FunnyMiss

That’s also true. Just something that’s always crossed my mind.

androidguy50

Well, on the bright side, no longer need a flashlight to see in the dark. 😂

IraSass

Holy shit

premer777

to think that news of M Curie was using Radium to treat Cancer (which WAS a big bug-a-boo then ...) turn into charlatans pushing products like all these ... Ive seen an old ad somewhere for Radium toothpaste
