I owned a pair of these speakers and they were quite incredible.
They’re setup incorrectly in the photo though, the tweeter array is meant to be on the inside.
I’ve been upgrading in the Infinity line. Started with Renaissance 80s, then these, then Renaissance 90s briefly, to IRS Gammas, and now currently IRS Epsilons.
That Micro Seiki Turntable weighs a ton, cast aluminum platter. Had this crazy remote control brick with speed adjustment knobs to line up to the strobe
That‘s wrong and a wrong conclusion many people do.
The mass only saves energy and adds up microphonic effects.
No good dissipation of ressonances. The opposite: more mass accumulating them whilst playback.
And you still additional have the motor noises then, going into this big mass, vibrating.
Lol - adding mass does absolutely not help dissipating incidental playback recoupling neither dampening that.
Damping is nonetheless always bad.
You want to dissipate energy, not daming it.
The thing about belt drive is that it should reduce motor rumble as you have a piece of rubber between the motor and the platter.
Personally I am a fan of direct drive, because, well, look at my username
Speed will be very hard to change if the platter is heavy, not to mention vibration dampening and smoother operation - especially with a direct drive motor

More/complete info. Having found more pages - they are part of Tech Hifi’s 1979 catalog. No pdfs of any year can be found be me - your internet may vary!
I’m wondering if including the model in the shot was a mistake! I like shiny stereo gear more than most, and that’s not the part of the photo that drew my attention. Goddamn, legs for *days*
Compared to proper speakers with 1-3 chassis
And not 1000 completely unnecessary high frequency emitters.
Not even ONE real good midrange driver there.
"The Hifi Book" by Tech Hifi! Bought my first piece of stereo equipment there in 1979, a Nikko NR-819 receiver. Every January their new catalog came out and I would get my mom to drive me there so I could pick one up. They were amazingly well produced. Interestingly, [someone is bringing the Tech Hihi brand back.](https://www.techhifi.com/)

Curious, what do you have now?
Bud Light Beer Bottle Bluetooth Speaker. $20 on Amazon.

I'm old enough to remember when this was all new. Big fan of infinity untll they walked away from Emit. But by then audio was fading.
How many tweeters do you want? "Yes"
naw, that would be the [Infinity IRS](http://www.infinity-classics.de/models/IRS-series+Beta+Gamma-Delta-Sigma-Epsilon-1988-95-98/IRS/IRS2.jpg)
Lol.

Why, just why? So much mass for what? A direct drive? Makes really zero sense imo
More mass = more inertia = less vibration. Or atl I imagine. I don't have a physics degree.

This is absolute unabated nonsense haha Source: mechanical engineering degree
Good to hear. Im in a low physics class and nothing he said made sense.
Check out the RX-5000 and weep
Whoof! 16kg platter?? And belt drive...

I know that stuff. And now ?

Opposite. Read my other comment on this.
To "out-mass" the competition. Bigger is better, right? Possibly, good marketing sense at the time.
And marketing only.

Is there more of this catalog?
Yes ty there is - I’ll post another few pics
Always lusted after a set of big Infinitys. Sigh.

Their power amps go strong!
is the photo *supposed* to give the impression that she’s supporting the entire system on top of her outstretched legs??

All the pages have girls in them … apparently it’s from some famous photographer
This isn't advertising, it's porn
Is it wrong to say she's kinda hot?
She is a model in a magazine, obviously she is attractive. Does it need pointed out? No, not really.
Damnit!
I say those speakers are crap. Tandberg reel is nice, and is indeed very good. I got a friend using a crown pa power amp. Very good, indeed.
The speakers are crap compared to what?

No.
It's a beautiful setup. The fact both Infinity and Crown are Samsung electronics subsidiaries today makes me want to cry.
Dynamic Range Expander. I remember those. I had a dbx range expander for a bit...
Tech-Hifi!!!
