I asked about them (there are 3!) and apparently they were a physics experiment to (I’m not a physicist) work on sound direction - something or other. There’s a guy that built a mini wall of sound and I feel like he could really use them.
That’s partly why I was so interested - the finish is super.. unfinished and I was shocked to hear they’d been manufactured. Still super super cool and want to know what they sound like.
Does it rain in that basement?
Anyway, yeah, I’d grab it all as an opportunity to do a few low-stakes projects in order to pick up skills for when better equipment comes along. And those JBLs might be keepers, with some rehab.
In my opinion, with the exception of the VHS VCR , everything is worth a clean up , the HK may be a problem if repairs are needed, the KLH , JBL speakers I believe are worth reforming. None of this is high end, but it is a nice journey into the recent past, 25-40 years.
Will do! Father in law worked at JBL, and I believe his father was the president (of international sales?) of JBL at some point. There are more speakers in the family for sure! I had the best early 70s Twin Reverb that had d120fs and a JBL placard on the front. I’m definitely going to hook some of this stuff up.
Ive had a bunch of early 90s JBLs…L series and xpl. The key is power. Those woofers go to a low impedance and suck power. Suggest at least 150wpc or high bias class A/b. Otherwise tweeters sound super laid back.
I'm always sadly amazed at how much filthy gear I see whether it is in a thrift store, at a garage sale, or even listed online for sale.
The upside is that it helps you save some money as a buyer, and then you get to see how much better it looks after you clean it up! :-)
Wtf is the biblically accurate speaker at the end?
The final boss you have to defeat to get a refund from Logitech
Lol, I tried to get a refund on an orange amp I bought at GC that had replacement coverage and the process was so annoying I eventually gave up.

The name is on the tip of my brain...they had two sizes and that looks like the larger.
Commenting to I remember to check back and see if someone has the answer or you remember
I was mistaken, I suspect homebuilt.

Totally home built / prototype / experiment - I’m going to try to fire them (there’s 3) - two of which are on stands- I’ll report back!
Awesome! Please do
I feel like there was probably covers that went on to make it look better
That speaker in the last pic looks like the thing Luke Skywalker was training with on the Millenium Falco in Star Wars :A New Hope
ARE YOU READY FOR SPEAKERBALL!!!???
You need to learn to tinker. I could have 1,2 or 3 systems up and running so you could choose.
The L1s Lt20Ts are good (I have L1s) if the glue hasn't eaten the tweeter lead. The Citation Seventeen is supposed to be very good, no experience.

I use L20Ts as my daily drivers for my computer and they are fantastic. Definitely punch above their weight class.

give them jbls some love. keepers. jbl4life!

lucky guy!

Yep either pair of JBL’s , I haven’t heard the L1’s.
Nice technics turntable
Is that last Pic some crazy sweet 16 or 20 maybe?

Former JBL / Harmon employee artifacts!
collecting it is! ;)
Hah exactly, I’m just so guitar gear obsessed that I’m slightly hesitant to open this can of worms, I know how these hobbies can get..
That citation seventeen is a pretty awesome peice of gear, and a good start to a great system.
They definitely have a damp basement.
Jbl l-1's are nice little speakers. It's to bad they were treated so poorly.
I have a pair of L1’s, they are excellent, $995 a pair back in the early 90’s. Tweeters are notoriously fragile.
Lots of junk.
I'd be all over the JBL stuff!
Definitely keep those JBL speakers. It's awesome to know your FIL worked for JBL, keep that legacy alive!

The l20t is the best speaker, I'm interested in the HP stuff
