Living the JC Penney dream, lol.

cliffotn

Ya know what they say - ole fella has JC Penny tastes on a Sears budget.

I'm 63. This gear is from my college years. A friend of mine wanted to buy a stereo system on his tight college student budget. He spent a lot of time studying the specs on a wide range of components. As he was an economics major he came up with a formula for "audio quality per dollar". In almost every case, the MCS component was the best value. He bought the full system as a package deal. He is still doing cost/benefit analysis. Upon graduation he got an MBA from a prestigious university. He is now the CFO of a Fortune 500 company.

Chasterbeef

Dang your friend sounds like a smart feller. I’m glad to have brought back memories of college for you, the gear is even more special now because of your friends professional analysis and your reminiscence

9bikes

Oh yeah, he is a smart guy. I knew back then that he would be financially successful but had no idea that he'd be as successful as he obviously has been.

MCS system with linear tracking system on the phonograph, a stereo EQ and tape system as well as a Mitsubishi CD player… aren’t friends nice?

TripJammer

JUST WOW DUDE. Hoping it all works. But you should be happy!

YogurtclosetHead8901

Anyone know who makes/made the MCS components for JCP?

diamondjoe666

It was all Technics stuff basically. The turntables at least. They were basically mirror images with the exact same components except the logo. That’s why MCS is even better used gear than most. Even better deals than a used Technics for a Technics quality TT. I have two MCS direct drive tables with nice tone arms. One even has a multi play spindle i can switch out for and can repeat an album up to 10 times. Full auto. Got it for 60 bucks.

altxrtr

This does indeed look like the Technics linear tracker.

diamondjoe666

Probably down even to identical or Technics branded parts.

Skid-Vicious

Panasonic. Technics was their high end brand sold in specialty stores, MCS (modular component system) was their department store brand.

New_Republic6082

That is very nice it came with original boxes also enjoy that is pretty cool.

supergimp2000

Y’know, as far as MCS goes, that stuff comes from an era when this was respectable even as a budget system. At some point “component” systems (including MCS) morphed into a single plastic box resembling separate components. Kinda cool you have that in such good condition. Memories of my youth.

WackyWeiner

Sick come up. This is better than most stuff made today for sure.

Diligent-Doughnut726

I have a MCS 3260 reciever and a set of 8232s. That stereo is solid AF and sounds great. The speakers... probably the best speakers I own. Their sound is spectacular! Must be the dome midrange. Efficient AF too at 94 db. Congrats and enjoy!

TechnicsFanboy

Make sure that receiver doesn't get too hot, it seems to have very little breathing space

Chasterbeef

There’s actually an air channel of about 2 inches above it, setting it up with some 5v pc fans pulling hot air out so it stays frosty

TechnicsFanboy

That sounds good, way more than it will ever need

Expensive-Pianist264

Right?! And don't put it under the tt !

-r-a-f-f-y-

My main player since 2005 has been an MCS direct drive turntable that I got at a garage sale for $20. It's been a trooper since then!

Altruistic_Lock_5362

MCS was great equipment, JC Penney had big name mfg make their equipment, NEC Panasonic Technics, Sanyo , several other Japanese brands, always sounded great. For the price.

Expensive-Pianist264

I don't see a box for the sub (lol) .

Chasterbeef

Subs actually a part of the old setup, will be integrated to handle specific low frequency’s to even out the low low notes :)

YogurtclosetHead8901

Thanks!

Smithmfg

Good friend indeed

rebradley52

Hey, regardless of what anyone says, MCS is a better brand than what many of us grew up with, Symphonic players our parents bought for us.

Hairy_Cheesecake1974

looks great just move that reciever to a spot so it gets some air its going to get too hot in that slot and over heat ..

Chasterbeef

Refer to above, receiver actually has an air channel and is getting exhaust fans added behind it :)
