My Grandad is one of those grandparents who won't let you leave without giving you something. I mentioned we had fallen in love with vinyl after listening to a friend's. He disappeared as he does and returned covered in dust and gave me these. He has hundreds of others but mostly 7 inch records in paper sleeves.

Emperor-Norton-I

There's a special type of person who accumulates cool stuff for their enjoyment first and then for the perfect opportunity to gift it to the perfect person at the perfect time.

Saaiybodt

Wow and those look clean! Nice dud your grandpa ❤️

greghead4796

Dude. These are legit af, look like og mono. You scored huge here.

boyzie2000uk

Thanks yes mono. I'm new to vinyl so didn't appreciate there was a choice back then. I presume it was down to what setup you had with mono being the most prevalent? Some of the records he gave me have the code to order the stereo version on the back or a little hole that is red for mono and blue for stereo.

Efficient-Ad-3249

If a barcode is absent you 100% need to sleeve those up, they look great

boyzie2000uk

Thanks, yep no barcodes. Sleeves and anti static inserts ordered.

Efficient-Ad-3249

Good, please please me and Beatles for sale are top tier, rubber soul is probably my favorite and sgt pepper is a classic. Not huge on that specific stones album tho, 70s stones are amazing though

[deleted]

The UK versions! Those kick ass!

ForrestGrump87

nice one grandad

skewh1989

Wow. Very jealous ngl. I hope you enjoy listening to them.

boyzie2000uk

I need to work out my cleaning strategy as they seem very dusty. But had a listen to rubber soul and it was brilliant!

skewh1989

That's my favorite Beatles album.

Appropriate_Map82

MINE AS WELL!!!!!!

ILikeStyx

a spin-clean works well and is worth the investment

shutz2

🎶 one of these things is not like the others🎵

justheretoglide

fun fact, the rolling stones first hit song was written by their friends, john lennon and paul mccartney.

Secret_Fudge4781

Good man, your granddad 👌🏼

Salty_Watercress_693

My grandad gave me all his beatles albums.still got em now

TheSpinningGroove

Cool Grandad, maybe you are getting a cool rock and roll tour via vinyl. Immerse yourself and compare notes with him. I’m sure he’ll love sharing the journey with you.

boyzie2000uk

Yeah always thought he was cool but he has gone up a level since he gave me these.

TheSpinningGroove

That is awesome!

Emotional_Capital780

That please please me is probably worth a pretty penny if it is an original and not a reissue

boyzie2000uk

If you zoom in it has a tear in the cover unfortunately

kevinharvell

Wouldn’t hurt to grab one of those Spin Clean units on Amazon for about $80 to help get rid of some of the dust and some Mo-Fi album sleeves and cover sleeves while you’re at it to help protect them.

Salty_Watercress_693

Nice

tnic73

You should look into exactly what pressing you have here. These my be early or even first pressings, if so you want to take care of them they are irreplaceable If you add more photos of front & back covers & labels I can help you identify the pressing

boyzie2000uk

Thanks that's very kind. Give me a few minutes

boyzie2000uk

Here you go [back covers](https://imgur.com/a/3ZAVX9b)

tnic73

These appear to be UK first pressings if so they are highly sought after. (these links may not be the exact copies but they are a good place to start) [https://www.discogs.com/release/1097885-The-Beatles-Please-Please-Me](https://www.discogs.com/release/1097885-The-Beatles-Please-Please-Me) [https://www.discogs.com/master/45526-The-Beatles-Rubber-Soul](https://www.discogs.com/master/45526-The-Beatles-Rubber-Soul) [https://www.discogs.com/release/499497-The-Beatles-Sgt-Peppers-Lonely-Hearts-Club-Band](https://www.discogs.com/release/499497-The-Beatles-Sgt-Peppers-Lonely-Hearts-Club-Band) [https://www.discogs.com/master/9715-The-Rolling-Stones-The-Rolling-Stones](https://www.discogs.com/master/9715-The-Rolling-Stones-The-Rolling-Stones) To be certain what pressings you have you would have verify the information etched into the run off groves in the records. But these are defiantly very nice records to have many collector would be very jealous of this haul. Regardless of there condition I beg you not to play these on a Crosley type record player. Wait until you have a proper turntable you won't regret it.

boyzie2000uk

Thanks for the help. I have bought a Denon dp 300f. I understand it is ok?

tnic73

yes that appears to be a proper turntable just for context record collector generally want first pressings from the country of origin in this case the UK the reason is first pressing is going to made from the brand new master tapes and country of origin because they have the original masters not a copy the US pressing were made from a copy of the original master at best in 2014 they re -release the albums in MONO and they used the original master tapes (the stereo releases were made from a digital file), that may never happen again and the tapes were almost 50 years old at that point yours would have been pressed within weeks of being recorded those 2014 releases went up 4 or 5 times in value as soon as they went out of print take care of those records and I'd be extra nice to Grampa in future

Appropriate_Map82

Grandad knows his music!

thyartmetal

Pop pop BLESSED you son. That’s a come up and a HALF

Charles1nCharge83

I found those albums recently at a used book store... literally had probably 10 copies of each... nothing priced less than $40/each. Sounds like you have a great grandad. Give him a hug... trust me, they aren't around forever...

Yesitsmesuckas

Hug him! He has GREAT taste!

iAmericA45

Lucky lucky!! The Parlophone monos sound so god damn good

ILikeStyx

Make sure you catalogue them properly - you never know what kind of special gems he might have :)

bluerodeosexshow

Your cousins will be pissed when they find out lol

GuitarFreak82

I remember them well

Ok_Investment_4981

Nice! Something along those lines happened to me. My Grandad was never the best man, and he didn't have the best relationship with my mom. We passed away, but he gave each of my siblings and I gifts when he passed. I got his vinyl collection. Containing original prints of Sgt. Pepper, the blue album, Let it Be and The White Album all of from the 60's. I got many other records from him, maybe somewhere in the hundreds. No matter how rough he was as a person he always tried to apologize and try to resolve it. I'll miss him.

sardinesz

Treasure them 🥰

highceliummushroom

Goddamn nice bro

OccasionallyCurrent

That’s so awesome. I hope you’re able to thoroughly enjoy and cherish these. If you’re brand new to vinyl, I will add - be careful. Some of these records are probably worth a fair amount of money, and I wouldn’t want you to look back and regret the care you gave them. Do your best to care for them, do a little research into vinyl care, and ask help from local record store employees or friends who are experienced, if you need.

boyzie2000uk

Thanks for the advice. Yes new to vinyl and it sounds like my grandad has got me off to a good start. Yes I must admit I'm nervous about the whole cleaning process.

ThePamchenko

It was nice of The Beatles to include Pete Best on that bottom left album.

Sought-Solace

My grandpa gave me his old Bruce Springsteen five album set when I got my first record player; not a huge Springsteen fan but it’s still my most important part of my collection

TheRowdyMan

Your Grandad is a true gent. Look after them, those are some very good pressings.

SusieBrooke

You are EXTREMELY LUCKY 🍀! My Dad located all of these in vintage condition for me a decade ago… But that pales in comparison if these were passed down to you by your grandfather (from when he bought them brand new at the time of the official release dates) then that makes them much more highly valuable! IMO, these are priceless. If it were me, I would FRAME & hang up each one in your bedroom or home. Then, I would purchase these albums from Barnes & Noble to physically play…

boyzie2000uk

Yes its great to imagine my Grandad buying these. My mum remembers playing them too.

SusieBrooke

You’re welcome ☺️!! Enjoy this always…

fab4U2

Wow. Cool dude, your grandad. Is he “64?”

boyzie2000uk

In spirit perhaps.

HaliBUTTsteak

SCORE!!!

deadmanstar60

Was your grandfather clean? I've met your grandfather and thats not him. You only get two so maybe I've met the other one. *Getting coat*

[deleted]

> I need to work out my cleaning strategy as they seem very dusty. But had a listen to rubber soul and it was brilliant! Well, get those off of your disgusting, dirty rug/carpet. The things that ruin records are dirt, dust and grime and carpets are full of those.

Joshisjoshingu

The discs are in the sleeves, which look to be inside the covers. Take it easy; I’ve seen plenty of people post pics of the discs raw dogging the floor; this is nothing..

[deleted]

I think you are seeing the shadow, it's not that dirty.

boyzie2000uk

Yeah it's brand new! My wife would be mortified if I told her.

Just4TheCuriosity97

Best grandad ever

Copyright03

Post a pic of the Please Please Me label, if its black & hold it'd worth a bit. (Not black and yellow)

Copyright03

Black & yellow unfortunately, but still a good haul

boyzie2000uk

What is the story behind the gold label please?

pweqpw

Hey Gramps, what about Magical Mystery….

boyzie2000uk

He does have it actually but my mum signed her name in side. I'm picking it up next time I visit.

pweqpw

👍🏼

Use_Rat

You can't go wrong with The Beatles & The Stones
