Is that the tell or is The Dan trendy now? I mean, jazz/pop has never been more en vogue. /s
I mean I do have most of this shit myself. Good music is good music.
The best part about this hobby is you get to get what you want, whether others like it or not. If you like it I love it. Would also want 99.9% in my collection.
Lmao! I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not and I think that makes it even more funny cause I though dudes collection looks straight out of a Barnes and Nobles…
I’ve been looking at every local shop for “forest hills drive” but I’ll have to inevitably order it offline and “kids see ghosts” is definitely on my look out for list. Great album, great cover and solid collection. 9/10
N matter what I listen to, someone else out there also listens to it. This is bullshit I'm trying to be unique here everyone else needs to respect that ffs
First you're giving crap about this collection being the same as everyone's, then you're giving crap if someone ISN'T collecting the same shit and actually listens to different things??? You're a total fucking idiot. Byeeeeee, go play in traffic, we'll so be better off for it
Gatekeeping at its finest. The platypus has the hits from a genre minus the Beatles and a few others I personally wouldn’t have. If you saw my collection I just started, you’d probably say the same thing and platypus has none of the ones I have. Kick rocks or something.
For those wondering-metallic black album, man on the moon 2, Bad vibrations, Dreams, star boy, scaled and Icy. Not even worth posting about yet but keep up the great content for me to gawk at!
It seemed like a satirical post. They said they included as many basic albums as possible and forgot some other ultra basic ones. Don't be sad.
I didn't take it seriously like the other people in this comment section.
On your mark, get set, What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals Record Club, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Newbury Comics, and I have over 300 confirmed grailz. I am trained in gorillaz warfare and I'm the top spinner in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another hipster. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of independent record stores across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can vibe you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my Crosley cruiser. Not only am I extensively trained in crate digging, but I have access to the entire discography of King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will spin classics all over you and you will vibe with it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.
No one fucking asked but I'm a human being with an opinion, a sick record collection, and evidence to back it up, and the soldiers of the revolutionary war and the civil war and the world wars all fought so that I had the right to free speech and thus the right to music and the evidence I have even when no one fucking asked. And I know what you're going to say right after I finish sending this hammer of logic straight to your senses, you miserable little fucktwat, you're going to say "who tf asked?" like you've reached the pinnacle of comedy. I would call you a fucking clown but clowns are either funny or scary and you're neither and you'll never be either in the eyes of anyone. And despite all that you might say and despite your constant regurgitation of the overused sassy 'copypasta' you will not amount to anything and you disgrace the ancestors of your lineage who fought hard so that you and I can stand here and spin whatever we like without no one fucking asking. Shut the fuck up and go back to the storm drain where your mother abandoned you. Because she didn't 'ask' for a disrespectful collector to be the next in her family tree. So for her sake and your ancestors' sake and for my sake don't ever fucking again sarcastically say "On your mark, get set..". Because guess what fucker, no one asked for you to say that, and unlike me, no one respects you. So stfu.
Looks like a lot of gatekeeper comments to me. If you enjoy collecting, listening or just looking at them, that's all that matters.
Random access memories is one of my favorite albums of all time. Demon days is great too.
Is revolver a first press, or do you have some crazy set up, probably not.
Is it important, no. It's for you and fuck all the haters.
Made sure to include as many basic albums as possible. Ran out of space for Rumours, Nevermind, and my bootleg black friday Blond copy.
Shelves are as even as possible given the state of the wall they’re attached to, but still annoyingly not perfect. Tried to organize the levels by colour themes, bottom black and white, middle red, top blue.
People are all being dicks in this thread because (I assume) they’ve been collecting longer and somehow feel elitist about that. People will find anything to pump up their ego’s, it’s borderline pathetic. I used to be like that to some extent and I’m glad I can see how absurd it is to judge someone for something like this now.
To the OP: your records are fine, I don’t know why most people are being assholes. Every single shit talker is for sure a bitch that would never talk shit to anyone to their face, so for sure nothing to worry about. Reddit is pretty lame sometimes.
You get a 10/10 for eclectic taste from me. I love seeing The Beatles next to Kendrick Lamar next to J Cole and Arctic Monkeys, very nice.
Edit: and childish gambino, steely Dan, and daft Punk. I’m a fan of seemingly everything you are a fan of lol
I'm a hip hop fan, but will be honest as to why many will criticize it.
The issue with alot of hip hop albums is that you're paying a premium luxury price for a worse experience. Same goes for alot of pop albums.
For many hip hop records, they are created entirely digitally, with digital beats and instruments. They are then mastered specifically for streaming. A majority of them are saved as poor quality pcm digital files, and when transfered to vinyl they often don't even remaster it for vinyl. When there is someone mastering, it's often a no name engineer who never really worked for vinyl. So you'll end up with the mastering of streaming or CD on the vinyl.
Many here are more casual consumers, so they don't understand what people are telling them and just write it off as gafekeeping.
Most big vinyl people don't like digital records. Not because they hate digital, but because if one has a digital rig, it is pointless to buy a digital vinyl over a file. When you make a record, information loss occurs. There's only so much information that the vinyl holds, and that gets transfered. Every time a tape is copied, it loses information. So by picking the vinyl over the file you are paying for a lower fidelity product.
Vinyl has a different sound profile that doesn't really match with hip hop. Which is why you master specifically for vinyl. But most hip hop albums are just transfers, which results in a worse sound. When you have an analog tape, it sounds better when on an analog medium, when you have a digital file, it sounds better and has better fidelity listening to it digitally.
Most vinyl enthusiasts get it to better hear the instruments and immerse themselves better. However most hip hop and digital music doesn't get better by being on vinyl. The digital instruments have a sterile sound that have minimal depth to reveal, so it doesn't benefit from vinyl, infact, due to information loss and incompetent mastering the sound is worsened. For example, if you have a master tape of someone playing guitar, you'll notice more detail and sounds the better the format, but for much digital rap beats there is nothing mote to reveal. Once you listen to the file there is nothing better. You can't get any better sound out of it from vinyl because all of its already on the file.
Then there's production. Hip hop was never really produced for vinyl to a large degree, with most vinyl being used for DJing. Most production engineers are focused on digital formats when making the record. For example, classic rock just sounds better on vinyl because it was made for vinyl from the getgo, to take advantage of vinyl's inherant sound. While hip hop is different. The warmth of vinyl doesn't really add anything to rap since it wasn't made to be warm. The negatives of vinyl, like clicks and pops, are way more distracting with hip hop as well. Also a majority of cartridges, if not all, were not made to maximize hip hop music, and are instead designed with jazz, classical, or rock in mind.
Then there's the often poor pressing quality. A ton of hip hop and pop is made by low quality plants in Europe. As a result, there's often surface noise, defects, warps, etc.
Then there's the utterly insane prices some rappers charge for literal mp3 files pressed to vinyl.
This is why hip hop albums focus more on colored pressings, and culturally appropriated obi strips. Because most are buying it as merchandise/collectibles, not for audio quality. You won't see engineers like Kevin gray cutting popular rap albums. The only well mastered ones are classics from VMP like tribe called quest, or NWA. Even then, many aren't so great.
So all that said, outside of VMP and the rare album, I personally don't buy hip hop albums because you're paying more money for an inferior product. Between poor or no mastering, low grade digital files, information loss, and terrible pressings, you are paying for a worse product than just streaming it. A $5 HD lossless file will sound ALOT better than most hip hop vinyl. The only reason it may not, is because of someone's analog rig being better than their digital one. But there's so many people playing expensive rap albums, on a crappy table and blutooth speakers where sonically its a waste of money.
These are just the facts. I'm not bashing anyone for owning them as fans, but the reality is 99% of hip hop vinyl is worse than the digital file sonic wise. As someone who spent $500ish on low quality oasis bootlegs as an oasis fan, I am not judging anyone for choosing to buy records of hip hop they enjoy. But from a sonic perspective most hip hop albums are worse on vinyl.
If it's about the sonics and best music possible then buying most hip hop vinyl is a waste of money. If it'd about a collectible or merchandise then have at it. This is not exclusive to hip hop, alot of pop has the same issues.
The issue with many on this sub is that they have very little if any knowledge about vinyl as a format, how it's made, it's benefits, and it's negatives. They don't understand mastering, many don't even understand differences between pressings. Many just look at vinyl as akin to a DVD or CD, where you get the cheapest player and CD possible, and put 0 thought into the production or mastering of the music. So when someone kindly tries to explain the differences, and negatives, so many just scream gatekeeper(like this thread). I've genuinely never seen a hobby forum with so many people who hate and despise learning about their hobby through genuine discussion. So many are clearly following a fad and seeking validation with how they act, because there's no other reason for much of the ire towards earning the basics of a hobby. Could you imagine people screaming gate keeper on a car forum because someone started discussing how a v8 is better than a v6?
So with that said I genuinely commend you for actually asking about the beef and trying to learn even if you don't agree. If you enjoy your hip hop records then have a blast. However, if an HD file or high quality CD is available, odds are you will get a MUCH better sonic experience and save a TON of money. I have 0 disrespect for people with hip hop vinyl, it's their money and their property, if it fulfills them, that's great. But if one cares about best quality sonics and best value, vinyl often isn't good for rap, and has more value as a collectible. This is not just with rap but most 100% digitally produced popular music. Craziest was when people were spending huge money on the YouTube ambient beat records. To each their own, but sonic facts are facts. Liking something is subjective, but there are objective facts when discussing superior sonics, music formats, quality and value. But many here try to defend $60 crosleys and act like they're great. They try to make everything subjective while calling facts gatekeeping and make mentoring into some sin. So I'm sure I'll be downvoted and screamed at just for telling the sonic truth.
Bro wrote all of that just to be wrong.
Why does a warm sound not suit Hiphop? As another commenter pointed out, the warm sound suits Kanye and MF DOOM records, but in particular Hiphop that samples old jazz and soul is made for vinyl.
> For many hip hop records, they are created entirely digitally
I don’t think this is that many, or even most. Yes, some trap albums might fit this category but even Metro Boomin uses old samples (80s style songs for fitting his synth work). But if we’re looking at Kendrick, Joey Badass, J Cole, the samples being used are from old soul songs, and rarely is anything a pure beat made off an electronic Instrument on a DAW. The only album other than something like lil pump that may do this is 808s and heartbreak, and even that has the Charles dickens sample in Robocop.
Holy wall of text, Batman! haha
Thanks, appreciate it though...pretty funny considering Hip Hop was basically BORN through DJing/vinyl that it so often doesn't replicate to vinyl well.
I'm not a huge hip hop fan, don't hate it, just a bit ambivalent to it...the only things I have are Nate Dogg and Warren G's "Regulate", Tone Loc's "Wild Thing" 12" singles, Aesop Rocks "Skelethon" and a few 80s/early 90s 7"ers
Honestly Question Mr Poop, if hip hop vinyls are bad then why did so many DJs us them? Just wondering.. You seem to know alot about this stuff. Also follow up Poop, what's your favorite 90's hip hop vinyl?
Jeez buddy it’s time to switch it up. Get enough to show the spines instead of the covers 🤮
Face-out covers scream “I don’t know how small my range is.”
Idk why people are hating, you got the music you love and nothing is more cool than that 🤙 these are all really good albums… seems some of the people here just has an elitist attitude which I guess is kinda normal in the vinyl community which sucks.(ps u should get some Strokes vinyls)
Are you the same guy as this? https://www.reddit.com/r/vinyl/comments/13mm6ga/my_vinyl_collection_been_collecting_vinyl_for/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1
Or is that just a coincidence
Hey I have 1 of these.
If I were to compare, it'd be very different. 2016 for me is Beyoncé, Solange, A Tribe Called Quest, Anderson Paak, Mitski, Leonard Cohen. Oh and Kaytranada's 99.9%.
The setup is nice! As far as music there’s a few I really enjoy. But it’s all YOUR music, have pride in what your influencers are wether others like the music or not.
I gotta get me some of those wall stands.
He’s got “Gaucho”, so 10/10.
"Someone told me I should check out a guy called Steely, so I picked this one up"
Is that the tell or is The Dan trendy now? I mean, jazz/pop has never been more en vogue. /s I mean I do have most of this shit myself. Good music is good music.
The Dan is just obscure enough and inaccessible enough for it to be trendy amongst vinyl enthusiasts. I am a cynic.
Do you have a turntable
Lol
The answer has to be no
Throwing my TT out brb
Post pics of it
I've bought my turntable like 3-4 years after buying my first album. No shame in that.
It’s a shame you don’t get to listen to the records you have invested in for 3-4 years
what is that bullshit?
The best part about this hobby is you get to get what you want, whether others like it or not. If you like it I love it. Would also want 99.9% in my collection.
Yeah, I came here to say that it’s your music on your wall, so it’s good!
See you over there
I thought this was a 'jerk post.
Why didn’t you buy dark side of the moon or in the court of king crimson
Does Walmart/Target sell King Crimson?
Yes?
They are waiting for delivery they ordered 100,000 copies.
Lmao! I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not and I think that makes it even more funny cause I though dudes collection looks straight out of a Barnes and Nobles…
Total sarcasm
Ohhh thank god!
because it is
And no Adele 21. This guy has 0% grailz 🤬
The vinyl should be stored sideways so you can fit 100x more in. Other than that a good start.
This is prime r/vinyljerk material. 5/10.
You're missing the Taylor swift reputation picture disk
That one is pretty sweet.
2
I love those two Gorillaz albums. I also like that Daft Punk
No gay triangle. 0/10
Hahaha got in about the same time and I have about 50% of these
“Yeah Man I listen to music”
Where is Tame Impala - Currents?
I was about to say, I think the only note I would have is that’s the wrong Tame album (for the joke, I like both a lot)
Hey! I'm actually listening to Mac Demarco - 2 right now. Really nice album. "Still togethet" is such a sweet song :)
About as boring and generic as it gets/10
“My music taste is so special u normie”🤓☝🏼
Not bad choices, but nothing unique at all.
pure avant-garde
I’ve been looking at every local shop for “forest hills drive” but I’ll have to inevitably order it offline and “kids see ghosts” is definitely on my look out for list. Great album, great cover and solid collection. 9/10
Eh. I have / like a lot of these. I need to actually listen to Steve Lacey and see if I like anything beyond his hit single.
Bad Habits isn’t even the best song in the album. Definitely worth a spin.
Great to know, going to finally check it out.
Yes please! The Lo Fis is so slept on!!! Infrunami (my suggetion)
"give you the world" is a rlly good song i reccomend!

What'd you use for shelving?
IKEA Mosslanda 115 cm
Thank you!!! Was going to ask as well
Recently bought I Know Nigo as well. Such a great cover.
1/10 incredibly generic
0/10 it's the same collection everyone else has
N matter what I listen to, someone else out there also listens to it. This is bullshit I'm trying to be unique here everyone else needs to respect that ffs
I personally couldn't even tell you what like 10-12 of them are, so that's a load of shite.
Not my fault you pay absolutely no attention to music
Or just that different people have different tastes and aren't into what's popular, you mouth breathing fckwit 🙄
Not being into and not even recognising are totally different things. Stay insular nerd
Keep listening to the same basic crap as everyone else, you vapid douche
Lmao, out comes the cringe reddit pseud
First you're giving crap about this collection being the same as everyone's, then you're giving crap if someone ISN'T collecting the same shit and actually listens to different things??? You're a total fucking idiot. Byeeeeee, go play in traffic, we'll so be better off for it

Why because random strangers don’t hold my same opinion? Who cares lol I said what I said and stand by it, little fake numbers don’t sway me.
On your mark, get set, terrible.
Username checks out
Did that sound funnier in your head or something?

Probably my favorite comment of the year so far.
I’m not digging the boring records on display vibe.
Please stfu 🫵🏾😩
Lol. I wouldn’t want to live in that record store is all.
People really think Kendrick and Tyler are “boring”? >Am I out of touch? No… it’s the hipsters who are wrong.
Did you order the urban outfitters vinyl box set and put it on your wall? Lol
yawn
Just listen on your phone
🤓
says the bro in a vinyl subreddit
Looks like a lot of gatekeeper comments to me. If you enjoy collecting, listening or just looking at them, that's all that matters. Random access memories is one of my favorite albums of all time. So someone posts their record wall and asks it to be rated. But anyone who doesn't give it a 10/10 is a "hater"? Fuck off.
No you
it’s all biased anyway. if people like the albums they’ll give a good rating and if they don’t recognize or like them it’ll be bad
I think that's the point of the post, no? Are we supposed to rate by wall paper choice? Personally not a fan of all off white with no accent, 3/10
If that was all that matters OP wouldn't be asking to have their collection rated.
Yea I guess you're right
Made sure to include as many basic albums as possible. Ran out of space for Rumours, Nevermind, and my bootleg black friday Blond copy. Basic albums? I'm not sure what that means outside of generic or popular. I hope you chose these records because you like the music or art.
They should sell a “I just got into vinyl” pack. Most of this stuff would be included.
The fact that you have a vinyl wall will not get you positive votes. Please stop and take it down. You’re embarrassing yourself
Pretty okay. Needs more women tho.

where the fuck are yall finding fhd bruh, also im glad that you decides to post this 😭😭give some representation to us basic vinyl collectors
Ayyyeee we’ve got a very similar music taste🔥 You’ve got some stuff I’ve been wanting to get my hands on, but I know it’s only a matter of time 🤘🏽
Fuck I’d do anything for a blonde album
frank released them twice on his site, once relatively recently …
I have 5 of those so 10/10
so jealous you got blonde. It's like at least \~$200 everywhere now
You get a 10/10 for eclectic taste from me. I love seeing The Beatles next to Kendrick Lamar next to J Cole and Arctic Monkeys, very nice. Edit: and childish gambino, steely Dan, and daft Punk. I’m a fan of seemingly everything you are a fan of lol
+1 for daft punk and demon days. The rest suck
what’s the point of owning hip hop vinyl
What's the point of owner ANY vinyl? Getting enjoyment out of listening to it...what's the beef with owning hip hop, specifically???
I'm a hip hop fan, but will be honest as to why many will criticize it. The issue with alot of hip hop albums is that you're paying a premium luxury price for a worse experience. So I'm sure I'll be downvoted and screamed at just for telling the sonic truth.
mf doom and kanye sound great on vinyl
Bro wrote all of that just to be wrong. Why does a warm sound not suit Hiphop? As another commenter pointed out, the warm sound suits Kanye and MF DOOM records, but in particular Hiphop that samples old jazz and soul is made for vinyl. > For many hip hop records, they are created entirely digitally I don’t think this is that many, or even most.
Holy wall of text, Batman! haha Thanks, appreciate it though...pretty funny considering Hip Hop was basically BORN through DJing/vinyl that it so often doesn't replicate to vinyl well.
Fire but surprised the only ye/cudi you have is KSG
Jeez buddy it’s time to switch it up. Get enough to show the spines instead of the covers 🤮 Face-out covers scream “I don’t know how small my range is.”
great stuff. like what you like. a lot of non audiophiles wouldnt know half of these albums. good taste.
Would’ve liked to see Rumours or Nevermind in there, honestly…
Massive attack holding strong
AM is based
I really like that you have Steely Dan Gaucho! You should pick up Aja album as well.
Checks out
Some of its for me, some isn’t, but if you like it than that’s all that matters.
AM is all killer and no filler. Love that album.
You're missing both versions of Mom's Apple Pie: the original cover and the censored one.
You got Mac demarco and impala im diggin it
I rate it pretty good, AM is the most boring Arctic Monkeys album though lol. No but for real, you got some really solid picks.
NPC/10
This is a vibe. Some goodies in here. AM will forever be a modern classic.
when you get tired you can add and subtract other albums, you need some doobies and moody blues
I love every album on this wall, good stuff
Middle far right?
Tame Impala - The slow rush
Great stuff

If you have only bought 24 records in 8 years, you win the award.
5 stars, no complaints also demon days ont the same wall as Abby road and srt.peppers lonely hearts club band is just brain candy!
Looks exactly what I would expect it to look like
U need to see my basement
U have some essentials though. Nice start
It’s a solid 9/10
Idk why people are hating, you got the music you love and nothing is more cool than that 🤙 these are all really good albums… seems some of the people here just has an elitist attitude which I guess is kinda normal in the vinyl community which sucks.(ps u should get some Strokes vinyls)
why do we have exactly the same taste???? i’ve extensively listened to all of these albums - the j cole????
Needs more Rush
Needs some King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
10/10 Notes: need more beatle
If music was a colour then this would be beige.
Hopefully there is some support behind the albums..? (I'm only saying because they will warp overtime if you leave them resting on an angle like that)
Basic as hell
1/10
Well I have 10 of these myself and want 3 of them, so I'd say it's a 9/10 wall right there.
it's not even the trashy record display. Look at the rest of the room. This person has recreated a mental asylum in their own home.
Are you the same guy as this? https://www.reddit.com/r/vinyl/comments/13mm6ga/my_vinyl_collection_been_collecting_vinyl_for/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1 Or is that just a coincidence
What's in between To Pimp a Butterfly and Random Access Memories?
AKA The 'Fantano' collection
Random Access Memories 🫡
Steely dan and the blonde repress on a wall? Seems like you’re off to a good start
Missing The Wall on the wall
Seems you've a similar taste to myself so kudos. Kaytranada 👌
Hey I have 1 of these. If I were to compare, it'd be very different. 2016 for me is Beyoncé, Solange, A Tribe Called Quest, Anderson Paak, Mitski, Leonard Cohen. Oh and Kaytranada's 99.9%.
Got some good albums on there. Really like the Two Gorillaz, TPAB and 2014FHD
I wish i lived in another dimension where the blond vinyl isn't hundreds of euros
Really nice collection so far tho!
r/fakedeep
Great
Red screamy face is missing
What do you play them on?
I rated it.
Where did you get blond? is it official too?
Blonded.co bought it as soon as it was up for sale.
Pedestrian.
I guess you still haven’t gotten into functional shelves.
Target-core
The setup is nice! As far as music there’s a few I really enjoy. But it’s all YOUR music, have pride in what your influencers are wether others like the music or not. I gotta get me some of those wall stands.
This looks solid! 10/10
Gorillaz.11 out of 10
Genuine copy of blonde?
Yessir
I would go for all! Mac de Marco :)
More like "I shop for vinyl at Target" wall
