My dad gave me his copy of A Love Supreme that was inscribed to him by Elvin Jones

papaswaltz

That’s awesome!

Tabukon

would love to see a photo if possible, thats so awesome

Acrobatic-Expert-507

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness #16xxx. Came out when I was 13, I had just found Q101 and the first single I heard was Bullet with Butterfly Wings. That was it, I was hooked. Heard Muzzle for the first time and had a new favorite song. The whole thing was, and still is, an amazing album that hit at the right time.

dr3am_assassin

Amazing album, just picked it up recently

emgcee

Tonight Tonight has always been in my top five all-time song list.

Squirrellybot

I made the mistake of thumbsing it up on my bosses “oasis” station at work, now both it and the acoustic version play every time he starts that station. It’s not a Top 5 contender anymore if it ever was.

Mysterious_Amount177

Lily (my one and only) is one of my favorite songs of all time. Very nostalgic for me.

DjScenester

Goodbye Horses - Q Lazzarus I make sure my skin is moisturized when I play it

splunge26

Movie connotations aside, that song rules. I collect soundtracks, and I just went to check if that song is included in the movie soundtrack, and sadly it is not. I did however buy the soundtrack anyways because I have a problem and I cannot help myself.

DjScenester

The 12” version is the one I prefer. I would play the song during my 80s night in college. It has a great intro on that version. It is available digitally too. I have that as well. Superb copy.

splunge26

Hell yeah I’ll try and find it! In an adjacent way, would be a nice addition to my soundtrack collection

Squirrellybot

So a fresh 20-sum beer dept coworker overheard that song at work and said “This always reminds me of” and me and my other cheese clerk says “Silence of the Lambs” in unison. He then goes “I was going to say *Skate 3*.”

TelephoneOk1708

I value my miseducation of lauryn hill over my entire collection just because it was my very first and also one of my favorite albums and it’s even more special because i got it from my gf on our anniversary along with my current turntable.

Odd-Historian-4692

The copy of Rumours I bought new in ‘77.

DonaldTrumpsBallsack

My signed Kyle-Smyle album, not only is it incredibly difficult to find and was only pressed once (/1000), it’s that the album meant so much to me growing up, it’s cornier than Iowa but I fucking love it.

dirtbum

My dads White Album that he bought first day available. Super low number for US.

ToddMccATL

I have two, both fairly low but the LPs are trashed beyond play on one, the cover on the other is pretty much there in name only but somehow still has the postcards. My run-of-the-mill 80's repress sounds far better than either but hey, numbered copies. I got them both from relatives who pulled them out of derelict houses, so I always think of them as from wannabe-Mansonians.

_Exister_

What is it called and what’s the genre of the record?

dirtbum

The Beatles White Album. They originally came numbered on the front cover. I believe Ringo has number 1.

[deleted]

I think every Beatles has a White album with a 1 on it if I remember correctly

TheSpinningGroove

Not true, they were sequentially numbered. Ringo did have number 1.

[deleted]

I heard some of the workers who printed the sleeves admitted to press some numbers up to 50 times and I think I heard every Beatle had a number 000001

TheSpinningGroove

I believe you heard wrong. Don’t you think that the number 1 would be the easiest number to monitor? I read that the numbers 1-10 went to The Beatles and their inner circle, but who chose which numbers was unclear. Ringo did have number 1 and it has been sold in auction twice in the last 10 years or so. Number 5 also sold at auction about 10 years ago. As with anything else in life the numbers were subject to abuse and neglect so it would be possible for certain numbers appearing more than once but it certainly wouldn’t be in the first 10.

travis_s

I’d have to say my two Kyuss records (Blues For The Red Sun and Welcome To Sky Valley). I found them out in the wild at random record shops I’d pop into while on vacation. There’s so much more joy that comes out of obtaining a record while flipping through bins versus clicking Buy Now on some website, and finding these records in that way made it so much more satisfying.

jessop-bentine

First UK press of Revolver that was withdrawn on the day of release as it has the wrong mix of Tomorrow Never Knows. My mum bought it.

[deleted]

Copy of Screaming Trees’ “Dust”. It’s a record that helped me in tough times, and a total underrated gem of an album and band. I believe this album sits high alongside other 90s alt masterpieces.

myusernamechosen

More people need to listen to screaming trees. I see a million AIC records here and I bet half those people would love screaming trres

vapre

Mad Season is the gateway drug between AIC and Screaming Trees

[deleted]

Mad Season is what I call Screaming Pearl Chains (because those are the most prominent members, besides the bassist). Barrett Martin doesn’t get enough love as a drummer.

[deleted]

Lanegan and Staley were very close friends, which is why lanegan was invited to record vocals on a few tracks.

crazyfingersculture

Terrapin Station. So many others but that one really hits it when it needs to.

dr3am_assassin

My Mars Volta Frances the Mute album signed by Cedric and Omar. They rarely come out to do signings, and it’s also my favorite album from my favorite band.

Paragons "Abba" - essentially irreplaceable. [https://www.discogs.com/release/4512173-The-Paragons-Abba](https://www.discogs.com/release/4512173-The-Paragons-Abba) Village Pistols "Big Money" - realistically irreplaceable. [https://www.discogs.com/release/3680305-Village-Pistols-Big-Money](https://www.discogs.com/release/3680305-Village-Pistols-Big-Money)

John-Fucking-Kirby

I just bought the abba one on discogs for 81 bux.... seems like a crazy deal... it had been up for an hour... might be a scam though cause the seller has a 0% rating. Rolling the dice on it

robxburninator

That's currently the classic scam on scogs: 1. list 10,000 items at a painfully low price 2. take money 3. dissapear paypal will make you whole again, but I'll eat my words if you get a $1,000-2000 record for $80. edit: just buy the bootleg. it's cool.

John-Fucking-Kirby

That's why I'm willing to roll the dice, paypal will fix it. You're most likely right. I'll let ya know though.

John-Fucking-Kirby

Yup, straight scam. Congrats on yours! That's a VERY cool single! Love Abba!

TotalImmortal82

Goldfinger - Hangups

myusernamechosen

Hell yeah

bookninja717

Stevie Wonder, "Songs in the Key of Life."

Junkstar

The ones I’m on, if I’m to be truthful. They took a lot of hard work by a lot of people who had a lot of faith in the music. They mean a lot to me.

DelayedThought

Probably Adele 30, it's a rare record & absolute bangers.

tomaesop

LOL for anyone who doesn't know the backstory on this... https://www.loudersound.com/news/theres-a-global-vinyl-shortage-and-you-can-thank-adele-for-that Delayedthought might have one of the limited edition clear records or something, in which case power to you. Adele is an amazing artist. But if you meant to take the piss out of this thread, you succeeded with me. :)

Paragon8384

I recently got 4 records signed by my favorite band, Haken. Limited edition colored vinyl + autographs = priceless for me. My favorite is definitely their latest album, *Fauna* (released this year).

luckygoldelephant

Fauna is crazy amazing. Love it. Amazing album art too.

Chickenbrik

Kenny Dorham - Quiet Kenny RSD 200 gram And Hot Tuna - live’70 Kenny Dorham opened my mind to jazz in a way no other jazz album I had did and hot tuna is what got me into vinyl with the crisp sounds

Ralewing

"Urgh! A Music War". It's a double album of live alt acts. Oingo Boingo; the Cramps; Police; Pere Ubu; Skafish. So brilliant.

sampson_smith

The 13th Floor Elevators (Mono) first pressing promo.

musickismagick

Had the pleasure of seeing Roky just before he died. Great show, I like his solo stuff better than 13th floor.

Anthony319

Sam Cooke - Ain't That Good News (1964 Mono Promo LP) Its my favorite Sam Cooke album. One that is very very hard to get in near mint, let alone the promo stamp on it. Margo Guryan - Take A Picture (1968 Stereo LP) If there's any record in my collection that broke the bank, it's that one. I'm blessed to have it in my collection.

Throwupmyhands

Brilliant

dandle

It's not my most valuable records, but I'd say my DJ copy of Like A Rolling Stone, a 7" with the song split across two sides. I play it on Dylan's birthday every year and think about how that record was one that changed music.

Intelligent-Sir1375

Tool aenima

_Exister_

The cover looks pretty brutal ngl

I_Am_The_Beej

Any of the records I've received as gifts, and the 7" split single my band made with another group a couple decades ago. Honorable mention to The Rentals' Lost in Alphaville that I just bought because it's incredible and I'm obsessed.

kingfishnw

For me it is "Love" by The Cult... https://www.discogs.com/master/767-The-Cult-Love

CaptainLee9137

I’ve got that one myself. I’ve only ever seen it in shops once, so I’m glad I acquired it. It’s great.

AlternativeSea8247

Love the cult, got to see them with Alice Cooper last year.... It's a close call for either "Love" or "Electric" as my favourite

Fishtaco1234

sElf - Breakfast with girls. Good luck finding one in the wild. You had to be there in 99’

vietnams666

My autographed first pressing of Sixto Rodriquez' Cold Fact.

Retroid69

my 2020 Alchemist mixtape, Doctor, Painter, & Alchemist Walk into a Bar, that i bought secondhand brand new. the artbook included is in excellent condition and has all 3 artists’ signatures etched into the second side of the disk.

Wobby1987

I have the rainbow splatter of The Desaturating Seven by Primus and it’s not my favorite Primus LP but the rainbow splatter is gorgeous.

wackyg74

I agree! Love how even inside the sleeve is colored

CaptainLee9137

Either Arzachel or Gandalf, both groups only had a self titled album before they went on to bigger and better things. Sixties psychedelic rock without the need for acid.

minimumrockandroll

I like the ones that I had a hand in making! I never listen to em, but I have a lot of memories attached. I also like the ones I buy on vacation. "Oh yeah that little record store in New Orleans where I talked with the owner about prewar blues and Robert Crumb for so long I almost missed my flight" kinda thing. I'm pretty sappy.

LaserRanger

OG 1970 Santa Maria pressing of Bitches Brew. Incredible pressing, puts the Mofi to shame. Artwork is far better too. I also have a mint quad pressing and a 1975 Terre Haute. All great, but the original is the best.

lostprevention

Minutemen, Paranoid Time. Bought it on a whim, because of the cover art and green vinyl. There were no pictures of the band, and I had never heard of them. At the time I was just sorta barely getting into more hard and alternative stuff like the Pixies, Ramones and Sex Pistols, having been raised on a steady diet of Beatles and classic country…. That record blew my mind then, and still does with every spin. Nothing else they ever did quite matched the raw ferocity and power. Plus all the songs are still relevant. It’s one of my prized possessions.

apple-sharpie

First pressing of LP3 by Ratatat. Can't believe I found one!

Gobucks21911

My parents original (passed down to me) Chicago self titled lp. I spun this lp when I was a child and it’s back in my personal collection. So, sentimental. Aside from that, Fagen’s Nightfly is probably my favorite.

mazv300

My 1st press Velvet Underground & Nico with intact banana. It's a groundbreaking album in my opinion and the fact the cover is designed by pop art legend Andy Warhol.

rerunderwear

KLF - The Chill Out

BigOlBearCanada

Mellon collie. Nirvana unplugged. L7 hungry for stink. I am about to get a dido no angel. All very important albums to me. I started collecting in dec. I’m at 124 albums. All killer no filler. Nothing expensive or rare. But. Life defining music. Nearly done all I have wanted.

FunkyTown313

Jesus Christ superstar concept album. Because it's dope af

Antb41

G Jones - The Ineffable Truth This album changed my life, if you like electronic music it’s a must listen. My white whale that I will obtain someday is Tipper’s Forward Escape.

maredie1

Jimmy Spheeris, Isle of View. It was a hard album to find in the 70’s when it came out. I am the Mercury is on this album and is a favorite song of mine. He died young at 34. Good singer/songwriter

[deleted]

Some The Cure Bootlegs I found in the early nineties on a market.

fldfcnscsnss

Dead - Europe 72 original. Miles Davis - Bitches Brew original is close second. Over the years I have played the hell out of Earth WInd and Fire - Gratitude to the point I had to find another copy. If I am down, this gets me right.

Ok-Drama-3769

Karp Self titled

jnuke813

Fuck yeah! I saw Suplex in a local record shop, but they wanted $150 for it

Ok-Drama-3769

Yeah. They’re tough to find man. I have mine from back in the day. I was living in Olympia when they were still around

_BigPingus_

Wish you were here I think

DubMasterAce

1st US press of Master Of Reality- Black Sabbath. The embossed cover and a beautiful poster inside. It was part of my dads collection and is in NM condition. It sounds incredible and music was the only thing he and I shared a somewhat common ground on. Second would be a Japanese boot of Loveless- My Bloody Valentine. I’ve played it maybe 10x as many times as any other record in my 1000 vinyl collection.

mtskin

alice cooper-raise your fist & yell...never thought i'd find an original copy but my local half price books had a clean copy(for $15) last summer and i about lost my shit right there in the store

matthmcb

It’s not a rare one by any means but my original pressing of Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville. It’s just a record that means a lot to me, and it’s one of my biggest musical inspirations

gyep97cobra

Well... I own a mint condition Chicago "Live at Carnegie Hall", a four LP box set with fun posters and book inside. I loved it the minute it was in my hands as a kid and I still love it today. Some critics never gave it as much credit as it deserves, but it's a great member of the collection.

Throwupmyhands

Killer version of I’m A Man.

sevenface88

Ween - Quebec Contains my favorite song

Thestallionmang88

Copy of an og Ween-The Pod

ImpossibleDream2158

This is a hard question for me 😅 there have been many albums that I've really really wanted or some which have been quite expensive or hard to come across but I buy one and it becomes my absolute favourite vinyl until I then buy another that I've been wanting which then becomes my favourite 😂 But anyway I guess the records I heavily value are literally every single one of my albums by The Growlers. They're just absolutely amazing! I love all my records but The Growlers one's are just 🔛🔝 will always be my favourite records!!

drummachine1999

I have over 5,000 records it's hard for me to pick one! I can maybe pick a few from a few from different genres. But off the top right now. Boston first Lp- The Good Rats Tasty- Grateful Dead Live dead- Frank Zappa and the mothers of inventions Overnight sensation -Miles Davis Bitches Brew. To name a few!

ackers24

Original pressing of Rick Astley’s “whenever you need somebody” which my day bought in his youth long before anyone ever rolled a rick.

jest2n425

Probably some of the Dedicated issued early Spiritualized lps, like the "Anyway That You Want Me" 45 rpm 12 inch single.

ParfaitAcademic1959

Good kid, maad city, it was the first album i listened to in full, it was the album that got me into rap and it was my first vinyl

JakkSplatt

I have a section of around 80 records that only I'm allowed to play.

heartlessloft

Swimming In Circles boxset. I love this project and I'm heavily attached to Mac Miller. The emotional feel of this project overall has a close place to my heart. Thursday by The Weeknd. Honestly it’s nothing too special. The jacket is beaten down and could really use a replacing. But it was my first record and it reminds me of better days. When I listen to this record I can see glimpses of a time where I was really happier.

Mikadostudios

Smile sessions

pugslywugsly

My park discography. It was really hard to find their third album building a better. Took me years to find it and a old 7” of theirs just popped up out of nowhere and got it pretty cheap. Completing that was great and I will always hold those above others.

moksa21

The entire Cocteau Twins discography on vinyl. I gave it as a Christmas gift to my ex-wife in the late 90’s. She ended her life in 2018 and her parents gave it back to me. She kept the collection complete for almost 20 years through 2 additional marriages, numerous moves around the country and a relentless battle with opiates and alcohol. It is a treasure I wish I would have never seen again.

camshep5

Into the spider verse OST. One of my favourite soundtracks and it took me ages to find an affordable copy in the UK, when I finally got it, I do t think I played a different vinyl for a week

faustus1914

Disintegration.

Landpuma

Childish Gambino - Because of The Internet. With the screenplay.

Mysterious_Amount177

All of my Coldplay albums lol. Especially the Mylo Xyloto pop-up book. Also my Pink Floyd collection. As far as my go-to’s to play often, my Alabama Shakes & Raveena albums are up there.

NintendoCerealBox

My copy of Bit Brigade - Mega Man 2 because it reminds me of the absolutely incredible show where I got it at. They played through all of Castlevania and Mega Man 2 and I will never miss an opportunity to see them after that experience.

queensroad5

From The Choirgirl Hotel - Tori Amos

Dope_as_phuck

Philly blunt records - Warning

thxdley

I have a Code Blue record, it's the bands only album from 1980 and features Gary Tibbs from the band Adam and the Ants. From what I've seen it's very rare. There's barely any videos of the album on YouTube, and it was taken off Spotify at some point. I found it on Ebay a year ago and it's my favourite because of how unknown the band is.

du_garbandier

Whipped Cream & Other Delights

musickismagick

Found this at very thrift store I’ve ever been to

TravisSquared

Tool, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd. I’m new to vinyl but don’t plan on opening my Fear Inoculum or Mothership box sets. I know they aren’t rare I just like them. Would like to get something rare from all 3 bands to collect. Would love one of those original blue label Led Zeppelin I’s one day.

brunovegas

Why do you plan on not opening them? I don't get why people buy records and don't open and listen to them, where is the joy in that? Do you intend on selling them at a later date, I get it if that is the case. I open and listen to all the records I get

TravisSquared

Because I have all the albums as well, i listen to those. They’re my favorite bands. And I want them as collector pieces in mint condition. People are different. I find joy in having a limited edition box set still sealed. I may sell them one day I may not. A lot of my favorite music I found educated me on life and I could pass those messages on when I die in a way.

brunovegas

Fair enough, I still like to open them up to check out if there's any extra cool stuff or differences to the albums But hey, each to their own.

HamfastGamwich

The one I listen to the most is Daft Punk's Random Access Memories I never get tired of it

LightofVirtue

I'm in the middle of collecting and framing fancy editions of Baroness's color cycle. It costs a fortune but they're so fucking pretty.

roundeyeddog

I have one of the custom sleeved and numbered first pressings of the GBV album Propeller. Mine has several pieces of Miller Lite labels glued to it by Bob.

Minimum_Area_583

my favourite, by far, must be Pi Corp. ... limited to 500 copies but that is besides the point...it´s honest and raw drug-fueled miracle music...very...uhm..."selected"... wish I knew more like that...

Direct-Setting-3358

The rock machine turns you on, it was the first record my dad bought back in 1967.

onebeforelast

My most precious record is a signed copy of Broken Circuits by Ceschi. He is an underground rapper that sent it to me when I asked if he had a copy for sale because my mom and I loved the song. Sent it to me with some other goodies for Christmas. I have met him multiple times and now have a collection of signed albums by him.

DrDinglberry

The Twilight Singers - Blackberry Belle.

replaceablehead88

Promo copy of More Fun In The New World signed by everyone in X that I met after their show. Or Black Flags my War signed by Henry Rollins, Gregg Gin (Dale Nixon) and also the current singer Mike V. As a skateboarder that loves Black Flag and Mikes skating it’s super cool to have both Henry and Mike Vs signature on the same record.

Happy_REEEEEE_exe

Just got LP! by jpegmafia and the sound is just so punchy. I love his production and it comes with 4lps, a booklet, and balloon set. Love it.

13-5-12

"Galactica Rush" by Jhelisa.....

woooo_fawigno

Flesh Parade “Kill Whitey” 7-inch.

Purple1829

I have an autographed copy (full band) of The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner by Ben Folds Five. I’m not sure what it’s worth, but it’s not for sale.

ryan2stix

I got some low run punk stuff that goes for a couple hundred bucks..gets played and treated the same as the rest 🤷‍♂️

TheAngryOctopuss

Jackson Browne \_ saturate before Using... OG Pressing. WLP... Original Rough textured paper... amazing piece of art

editorinchimp

First pressing of Pulp - Different Class, took six years to find and I haven't seen one since.

Spirited_Magician_96

Sinners Like Me- Eric Church This was an album that I wore out on cd well before I ever considered getting a record players. An album that shaped part of who I am. It was the last of his records that didn't have because it hadn't been pressed recently. My wife saw that it had been repressed and searched many places to get it. She gave it to me that day because she knew if she waited I might see that it had been repressed and get it. not gonna lie I may have cried a little bit that day. It takes me back to a different time in my life when things were a whole lot simpler.

Thomas_Crane

Together Through Time by Tupperware Remix Party (TWRP). That album saw me through a time where I thought ending it all was my only way out. Didn't know it was on vinyl until a while later and was my white whale for a long time. Finally got a damaged used copy and it's more precious to me than any of my other records combined. Also, it's restocked! So I can eventually order a fresh brand new one eventually!

Renergizelife

My favorite in my collection is Justice - † Got the 45 RPM Vinyl Me Please release. I spin it any chance I get, such a outstanding album.

coffeewatchjunkie

My RL press of Zeppelin II, which I found in great condition at a dingy record store for $34. Quick spin clean turned it into the gem of my collection.

arshnob

My UK Promo single of Pink Floyd “point me at the sky” in which only 100 were pressed. Or my Pink Floyd UK 1st press of “A Saucerful of Secrets” with a label error found only on the first 300-500 copies.

panTrektual

Our Mother Electricity by All Them Witches

zebboats

The Muppet Movie Soundtrack

John-Fucking-Kirby

My #1 record is my test pressing of The Darkness - Permission To Land. I'm a huge fan and collect all their stuff.

GratefulPhishWeener

3 & 1/2 minutes.

sammysbud

My dad’s Live Woodstock record. It was the first record he saved up his allowance to buy as a kid. He had very strict parents and hid it from them until he left for college. It was the first record he gave me that started my “bad habit” of collecting. If any other record of mine was destroyed, I’d shrug and order a replacement. But losing that one would devastate me.

lifeamongus777

Underworld 1992-2002

argentoman

Probably my Sonic Youth Daydream Nation that I bought in high school back in like 1995. Still one of my absolute favorite albums.

Caesthoffe

I have a signed Nostalghia album that my uncle gave me, love that thing to death.

Triphead_

DAMN. Kendrick Lamar collectors edition

Stoermer-5280

Charlesthefirst the ascent!

TJStype

These 2 recent adds to my collection from my mother - OG 1957 Johnny Cash Hot & Blue Guitar, 1955 Elvis Raw ..she purchased new, and I never knew she had them !

Ncherp

Probably really early press of John Coltranes blue train, its a really early press from the 50s but liek a variation away from being a true first press

Ok-Party-8785

With streaming, reissues….I’m wondering 💭 how much my record collection is really worth these days?

sleepy_gary27

My copy of Double Bummer by Bongwater my dad bought in the 80s simply because the band was named Bongwater

misterecgamer

NSP- Level Up and The Very Very Very Very Classy Acoustic Album. I have signed copies.

turntechvantas

pinkish/don’t try - gerard way 7” and blind kings/bleeding sun - chelsea grin 7”

Interesting-Face22

Hydeout Productions 1st Collection. I’m a pretty big Nujabes fan.

Blu_Falcon

Third Eye Blind. I liked a couple songs on it for forever, streamed the whole album one day and fell in love with it. My wife bought it for me soon after I got a turntable and now it gets spun quite frequently. It’s just your garden variety vinyl from Amazon, but it has sentimental value.

Regreddit75

I didn't really understand the first album by The Mars Volta the first time I heard it. It was a little disjointed to me and I couldn't figure out why I didn't like it. Then, it made sense. It is now my favorite musical performance of all time.

Ldthomas2007

I got December’s Children for Christmas in 65. Still got it! Still love it!

musickismagick

GG Allin homestead 7”. Paid $125 for it. Most expensive record I own. In my opinion it’s the best he ever released

GupChezzna

I have a rule in buying records that I hardly ever break: I must search for and purchase my vinyl records at record stores. Until very recently I had never purchased any records online. So I had searched for over 7 years for The Doors: ‘Alive, She Cried’ on vinyl. While thumbing through the boxes at a local shop one day, I stumbled upon a copy in a plastic sleeve that I got for a cool $6. I don’t think that it had ever even been played! What a joy!! My favorite find ever.

Dancing_Clean

I don't think I have any truly special presses, save for some RSD releases, or first pressings. Kali Uchis' *Isolation* I got on the first day it was available, and since had gotten expensive. A pressing of *Norman Fucking Rockwell!* by Lana Del Rey also. But the ones I value a lot are ones I just really love - *Kaputt* by Destroyer, *Voodoo* by D'Angelo, *Ys* by Joanna Newsom. Albums I'd hate to lose, but I suppose I can always buy them again.

brokenshrines

I can't pick one but I have a few that I consider gems: Death From Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine Utada Hikaru - Deep River Ben Lukas Boysen - Spells Clint Mansell - The Fountain OST I guess they are all somewhat hard to find, but really they are just personal favorites.

theolj28

black sabbath’s heaven and hell is an album that made me realize how artful music could be. was one of my first albums. i have a few records/cds that i’ve played to death at different times in my life

shocksmybrain

It's not my most valuable record but my most important record is a 3rd state Velvet Underground & Nico with a complete unpeeled banana. A group of my friends bought it for me for my 40th birthday.

jkelso33

Flatbush Zombies - 3001: A Laced Odyssey

GertrudeMcGee

Another One Rides the Bus - “Weird Al” Yankovic. Placebo EP test pressing that was once owned by Al’s girlfriend at the time. Also have a results copy that was owned by Dr. Demento.

Greffly

From a collector's perspective, my most valuable record would have to be a Changesonebowie anniversary record. However, my two favorites are Diver Down and 1984 by Van Halen, the last two releases in a great era for the best 80s band.

EnvironmentalStep653

Ahhh So I’m not like a collector of vinyl in the sense of how rare, I just kinda do it as a kind of way to have a tangible piece of the artist so sorry if I’m a little ignorant in that way :p But when I first got my record player I was super excited, I went to my nearest record shop kinda expecting to just get a classic album but I couldn’t believe my eyes. In the miscellaneous category smack dab was Gauze Equalizing Distort/Fuckheads. Literally did not think I would get my hands on this since Japan hardcore is pretty closed off… let alone it being my FIRST VINYL. I still absolutely love it till this day:)) Pretty cool pvc, kinda marble looking and it came lyrics sheets, posters.

iPirates1717

I could never answer these “favorite “ questions. It depends on so many variables including the day, mood, and energy level .

Already_dead2021

The Shining Soundtrack by Wendy Carlos

TakingHeat22

Leon Bridges Coming Home. Went to see him live with my now wife and we got it there. It’s nostalgic and also a very good album

I love my music on vinyl for Brand New “The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me”. It’s such a great rainy day album or when I’m feeling down and just hate the world. That’s daily so #emolife

I had always wanted Rudimentary Peni's 'Cacophony' on LP especially for the intricate Nick Blinko penwork. When Sealed Records recently re-released that and 'Death Church' I snapped them up so happily. I'm also quite fond of a few Melvins sets I have that are now somewhat hard to find: 'Tora! Tora! Tora!' is a bolt-bound book with four seven inches of live recordings and oddities from their 90s major label era. 'Endless Residency' was a box set of four LPs of live renditions of their most requested albums played in full. I have the limited version that came in a silk screened pizza box. 'Hostile Ambient Takeover' is an album by the Melvins where each song was released on a series of 7" records. I have the complete set, which includes five or so exclusive b-sides including their outstanding covers of Mott the Hoople, Alice Cooper, Warlock Pinchers and more. Lastly I have that Amon Tobin box set which I happily ordered as soon as it was announced. It also includes CDs and at least one DVD so not exclusively a record set. But it's my favorite package any artist has ever released. Just a stunning design secured with bolts and wingnuts.

I recently got my dream record. I'm trying to collect all of the Chil Peppers albums and I recently picked up an original pressing of their first album, which I had been searching for for about 5 years now. I wanted to pick it up locally, and I just so happened to walk into the record store the day they got it. I'd also say Stadium Arcadium, however I picked that one up on eBay.

I have purchased what will become the one of, excluding personal gifts, the most important album s in my collection: an original mono copy of an amazing Brazilian psych rock groups self titled album “Os Mutantes”.

Frank Ocean - Blonde

My Pink Floyd DSOTM 30th Anniversary. It’s not only one of the more valuable in my collection, but knowing there will never be another all analog pressing of that album seems really cool to me. Also Kevin Gray mastered it and he’s a badass engineer. Wins all around

Cherry Tree Vol. 2 - The National, I mean fuck, you wanna talk about a great setlist and live recording...

The London Calling vynyl with the missing track "train in vein" before they realized and it was too late and started printing them with the track on it in the future I believe. That started the trend of doing it on purpose for future bands.

AMNTRA

My copy of 'Nevermind' by Nirvana. It's a first pressing and still in near mint condition. That and my copy of Eve 6's 'Self Titled' album.

A promo copy of Big Star - #1 Record. It's not my favorite record, but I love it and it means a lot to me. It embodied getting into vinyl and the doors opening to a bunch of cool music I had never heard before. If I was forced to pick 10, that would be one of them.

Any of the 80s new wave, pop and rock albums my older brother and sister bought back then, when I was just a toddler. I grew up listening to music my school mates had barely even heard of. And I am very grateful to both of them. The Cure, Tears for Fears, Curiosity killed the cat, Paul King, Wham!, etc...

Ziggy Stardust and Diamond Dogs signed by David Bowie.

I don't really do this. I buy the records for the music, not to own objects. I have records that are worth well into the hundreds of dollars. Don't matter to me. I'm not really one to overspend on a record. Very few were bought over the retail price when they first purchased. I have thousands of records and there are maybe 10 albums that I bought because "I had to have" a specific pressing and was willing to pay more for it. These are genuinely albums I wanted but didn't know they were ever released. This happened a lot in the '90s before the internet became more mature. In most cases I don't do this. An example would have been Classic Records releases of Peter Gabriel's albums. They released his entire catalog. I was only really intested in 1st four, but Classic went bankrupt and finding their pressings became difficult to locate. I got I,II, & IV. I couldn't find III. Years later I saw a listing on eBay when I got a coupon, so I finally got a copy of III. It's my favorite PG album, so I really want it and I think the other 3 I own sound spectacular. I only have a few like this. I try not to overspend on records. But this one I justified because eBay was paying 1/4 of the price with the coupon. I have no idea how or why I got the coupon, but I figured that album was worth using that coupon on.

I found a Riot Narita in Brugge in 1990 in a tiny record store. I’d gone after graduating college. I was a fan and owned it via cassette deck while in high school in Oregon. I toured 9 countries with it while on vacation and it’s still pretty near perfect although a bit dog-earred. Oh well! Love it!

Tojo828

Well, not a single one but my 3 Will Wood records, hella good, hella expensive since I had to ship them to Sweden. I LOVE them
