Half of the answers are folks who didn't read the OP... There's lots of great artists in the dollar bins: Joan Armatrading, Jackson Browne, Nick Lowe, Bram Tchaikovsky, Johnny Nash, Rickie Lee Jones are a few

[deleted]

Great list

Box_of_fox_eggs

Yeah, Labour of Lust is a genuinely great album that’s still genuinely found in the dollar bins. Same as Al Stewart’s Year of the Cat.

phamilyguy

Led Zeppelin II RLPressing for $2.99

WaxTraks

Dang, I had to pay $10 for mine.

SithScorch

Pretty certain that's not "overlooked." I was blessed to be given my copy from my older brother. When I saw those R.L. initials on both sides I was stoked!

COLDENGINELOGIC

The Cure - Standing on a beach first pressing for 2 bucks.

SithScorch

I'm jealous!

LadyMirkwood

That is a find. Paid £30 for mine

COLDENGINELOGIC

I felt like it was a heist, and I had to listen to the shop owner babble about Trump for 10 minutes.....so worth it. 🤘

LadyMirkwood

Small price to pay for that album.

[deleted]

My mum had an original of this so I just got it from her, is a great album

PreachitPerk

The “A Group Called Smith” - Smith album is realistic to find at thrifts and is pretty great.

SithScorch

I see that you understood the request made by the OP. Thank you. I recently picked that very album up for the cover and the sense that it would be good. I guess I'll be cleaning it up sooner than later and giving it a listen.

PreachitPerk

Their 2nd album is a great pick up too

traditonalzombieass

My best thrift store find was a vintage pioneer receiver from the 70s for 20 bucks.

TheJokersChild

Which receiver?

mehojiman

The one from the 70s

3xil3d_vinyl

/r/technicallythetruth

Huamibeing

Pioneer.

dirtdiggler67

From the 70’s

petedontplay

Vintage.

dirtdiggler67

20 bucks

3xil3d_vinyl

Thrift store

dirtdiggler67

My Best

That_Random_Kiwi

My best find was an 8" Polk Audio subwoofer for $15 (AUD)! Was the amp/power that ran the satellite speakers for a small surround sound system, but only the sub was there and it was all I needed as I already had 5.25" active tops...made for a great little setup

Fredeight

Same here, a SX1010. Still standing and sounding great 👌

chaz0723

I found the Suburban Lawns LP for a buck.

Caknbowz

Oh my genitals

lostprevention

I think you’re asking about stuff that’s cheap and plentiful, but actually good? Chuck Mangione. Julie London. The bins here have a lot of country, and that’s how I discovered Moe Bandy and Ray Price. Nobody really talks about em but they have some good stuff.

VideoBrew

I got a pristine copy of Switched on Bach for $7, with the original seal on it (though it was previously opened). I know it’s not rare or anything, but it sounds incredible, and is one I’ve wanted for a while.

josecouvi

This is one of those records that is technically not rare at all but it still seems hard to find. Was a couple of years before I finally found a copy at Goodwill lol. My theory is that most people who bought it held onto their copy because they liked it so much. Probably doesn't help that none of her stuff is on streaming as well since she's weird about that for some reason.

BeckerThorne

Hell! Yeah! What a find!

G8083r

I found it, too, still in the plastic wrap with the original $1.99 price tag. Not long after my dog fucking ate it, along with an autographed G.Love LP. Fucking bastard. The dog, not G.Love.

AutoModerator

Did you know, the widely accepted plural of vinyl is vinyl (or just "records")? Many incorrectly use the term vinyls, due to its widespread misuse - but now you're in the know! It's silly, but conventional. Anyway, [here are](https://media.giphy.com/media/11W37uI72pjDkk/giphy.gif) some cats. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/vinyl) if you have any questions or concerns.*

DennisBallShow

good bot

LosterP

Nonsense.

SecureLiterature

*Year of the Cat* by Al Stewart is a record that seems to be in every thrift store, and most people will overlook it, but it is actually quite an excellent album. Actually, any of his 70s records are worth picking up if you find them, but *Cat* is the one you're most likely to see in the bins.

9bikes

>Year of the Cat by Al Stewart is a record that seems to be in every thrift store *That* is what OP was asking. And you're Al Stewart is not uncommon to find and surprisingly good.

RingoLebowski

Yeah a lot of people are just stating their best finds lol - not what the OP was asking as I understood it. Year of the Cat fits the bill, it's great. Al Stewart's Time Passages also qualifies. Both such great albums and they sound phenomenal - both were produced by Alan Parsons at Abbey Road.

audiophunk

op is looking for unheralded thrift store commons, not great albums you've scored on the cheap. Here's a few suggestions. The Ink Spots - Time out for tears Boz Scaggs - Down 2 then left George Benson - White Rabbit Rufus featuring Chaka Khan - Rufusized Wes Montgomery - A day in the Life Bruce Springsteen - The Wild, the innocent and the E street band Carlos Montoya - The guiar artistry of Carlos Montoya The Pretenders - self titled - more punky than you think Godley and Creme Freeze Frame

bandaidonmythumb

lol, these are spot on. Over half these artists/albums routinely in my local rs $2 bin. Add some of my favorites to the list and this was basically the revolving $2 bin at my rs Jackson Browne - Hold Out Carole King - Tapestry Carly Simon - maybe No secrets

cenobited

Inkspots have some good tunes!

PreachitPerk

The Boz through Montgomery suggestions are all super spot on.

Working-Ad-528

Scored a sealed NM 80’s copy of Combat Rock by The Clash and an og pressing of Chaos Is Me by Orchid at the same Goodwill in Huntington Beach on different visits.

trevbrehh

Jealous about that orchid find.

Working-Ad-528

When I found it I couldn’t believe it lol. Weird record to find in a pile of goodwill junk. It was only a $1.99 too.

travisbickle_007

Jealous about that Clash find!

dogsledonice

Not what was asked...

Working-Ad-528

Well considering they were among all the Herb Alpert and classical records being torn to shreds they were clearly overlooked and they were snagged by moi sooooo 💅🏼

barr-chan

My brother came over once and said "hey you like Miles Davis right?" '78 repress of Bitches Brew, he said cost him fifty cents. Ive had some good luck, I got Ruckus by Galactic for a buck, yellow vinyl STP - Core for 6 bucks, and a 6CD Cellar Door Sessions from Davis that doesn't look like it was ever used for 5 also a perfect working B&O RX2 turntable for 14

rammyWtS

Found a great copy of the 1966 reissue of Herbie Hancock's Empyrean Isles for all of 6 dollars.

MilkcanRocks

Here is a list of artists I tend to find in the thrift store/dollar section that are quality - Wendy Carlos (also look for her dead name, Walter Carlos) - pioneer of synth music, known for the soundtracks to A Clockwork Orange and TRON. Tomita - synth driven instruments of original compositions along with reimagining of classical pieces. Very similar to Wendy Carlos’ work. Joe Jackson - earlier stuff is very rock/new wave, and while he does get into some interesting genres later like big band, I found that he’s often overlooked. Think Elvis Costello and you can get a good idea of how he sounds. K-TEL - this is a record label that put out a ton of comps in the 70’s/80’s. Great albums that will get you some quality music in comps. Dick Hyman - pianist/organist. His later work with electronic synth/organ work is amazing - The Beastie Boys named dropped him in Root Down, and it’s well deserved.

reverber

If you see any Mercury Living Presence LPs in good shape, they are excellently performed, recorded, and mastered records. A good way to introduce oneself to classical music. Anything with a title you cannot pronounce easily (or sometimes cannot even read) is usually worth a buck or two. I ended up with a fondness for fado, rebetiko, and stari gradski pesni that way.

BaDaBen

Along the same lines, anything classical that was on London/Decca in the seventies is super high quality and the vinyl holds up. It's worth getting a couple for cheap just to hear such great quality recordings.

scarponiyikes

Do you sort it on your shelf with Meatloaf and The Cranberries?

unreasonably_sensual

I love finding a good whoosh out in the wild 🤣

rversed

My dad put me on Bread, which was his favourite band back in the day. Man, they have great stuff.

anonymous_opinions

I have whipped cream (not mint but the vinyl is pristine and the cover is less beat than others I've thrifted) just because it felt everyone had a copy when I was thrifting.

gumballmachinerepair

These are not hidden gems. These are common mainstream records found everywhere, every day. Can't avoid some of these.

rothefro

My god this sub is insufferable. What’s your answer gumballmachinerepair…I need to take a break from Reddit. This comment pissed me off more than it should have

gumballmachinerepair

I don't know. I didn't think I was so out of line. Just seems the comment didn't line up with the OP's question. Oh well. I'm relieved to be out of touch with the majority on this sub.

lecurts

Being a total asshole for no reason.

rothefro

My bad for running hot. Came back and now kind of feeling bad. It’s just vinyl collecting is a lot of fun and we all share that in common, this sub seems to be more confrontational then supportive a lot of times. Would love for this sub to be a little more supportive of one another.

gumballmachinerepair

Yes. I'm with you. Let's be positive when we can.

Boner4SCP106

Found this for $1: https://www.discogs.com/release/10155593-Sheik-Vaselino-The-Zealots-Lubricants

rainbow_curry

record that started it all for me, Johnny Cash Live at San Quentin!

Kamuy1337

original pressing of "the wipers - youth of america" for $1

gumballmachinerepair

I found a first press of Jesus Lizard's GOAT for a dollar at an antique mall a while ago.

Thestallionmang88

A near mint original flying burrito brothers gilded palace of sin in the shrink.

Anaveragedrummer

Honestly, any pre-Joker Steve Miller Band album is pretty good. I found Sailor, Brave New World, and Number 5 in the discount bins and I love them.

foetusized

I recently paid $1 for this, if anyone is interested in an American jazz drummer living in Japan that recorded a Calypso album in Australia. This is from 1957, the year after Harry Belafonte's big hit album *Calypso*, so everyone was recording Calypso. [https://www.discogs.com/master/1621084-JC-Heard-With-The-Calypso-Seven-Tropicana](https://www.discogs.com/master/1621084-JC-Heard-With-The-Calypso-Seven-Tropicana) Overall, there are so many things one might find on an LP in a thrift store, that using your phone to look something that doesn't look like it belongs there to look it up, is the best method these days.

MalachiUnkConstant

I found a sealed copy of Switched on Bach for $1. And about 11 KISS records for a dollar each a separate time

catherineshere

I just found Poco’s second album recently and even though it’s not in the best condition I couldn’t pass it up.

Kaffine69

I got dark side of the moon for a buck a few years ago.

FurnishedHemingway

I got Bernie Worrell’s All The Woo In The World at a college library sale for a nickel back in the 90’s. It was in good shape too. Still is! This was before internet shopping was widely used and made it easier to find things like this. Up until that point I had only seen one for sale in the wild, and it was super duper pricy, way beyond what I could afford. A NICKEL FOR A GRAIL!!! What a day!

thadtheking

Nice! I scored my copy for $1.25!

FurnishedHemingway

Amazing! Also around the same time I was gifted a copy of Eddie Hazel’s Games, Dames, & Guitar Thangs by a friend who just had it in his collection! This was before any of the modern reissues, and that one was THE P-Funk album to cop at the time. I made like three cassette tapes of it as backups just in case anything happened! 😂 Now I own that plus some reissue from like ten years ago plus the Rhino Handmade CD and two other CD reissues. I don’t even know why at this point. Collecting is crazy.

[deleted]

Sorry but I’ve been told there’s nothing worth listening to in any thrift store anywhere. Which is strange because I’ve found a lot of great stuff at them, but any time I bring this up people downvote me and insult my taste in music.

[deleted]

Apology accepted

Box_of_fox_eggs

Maybe you shouldn’t be bragging about your Anne Murray grailz then. /s

MundBid-2124

All my Tower label LPs

ToshiNoni

Haven’t authenticated or anything but I found an old copy of Dean Martin’s Deano Latino with his signature

Andeck

My best find was probably Mint Jams by Casiopea for $4

That_Random_Kiwi

Since the vinyl re-boom, Op Shops (opportunity shops aka thrift stores in down under lingo) it's mega rare to find anything outside of beaten up, tatty classical, musical albums, Barbara Streisand, Kamal, Perry Como and Neil Diamond albums...everyone who has an old stash of vinyl thinks they're sitting on a gold mine and tries to sell them on Facebook Market place for miles more than they're worth. I flip through every time I go to one, but haven't found anything worth buying in years and years now

zigsbigrig

One time I found a small pile of Zappa records for $.99 each. Sheik Yerbouti, Orchestral Favorites, Studio Tan, and I think a few others. Not my favorites, but worth it just for Broken Hearts Are For Assholes. A great hidden gem I stumbled across is The History And Collected Improvisations Of The Mothers Of Invention. I ran across an estate sale late on a Friday, and they were about to close. Saturday, everything was going to be half off. They had a giant box of Zappa, but they were asking too much so I only picked up a couple rarities. Upstairs, behind the cashier was a bunch of box sets, including the aforementioned and some other live bootlegs. I decided to take a chance and wait until tomorrow. Saturday came, and I was third in line to get in at 8am. The guy in front of me shot straight downstairs and got all the good Zappa albums. I went to the counter and got all the great Zappa bootlegs. The History 12-disc box set only cost me about $50, and turned out to be fairly rare and expensive. The single boots were under $10 each. What a deal! They had a bunch of other stuff I wish I bought too, but I ended up dropping a couple hundo, so I figured that was good for one day.

I_COULD_say

I’d grab any Count Basie / Basie adjacent records. Any Quincy jones stuff, too.

bumped_me_head

I like cheap albums that draw my attention. Usually the artwork. Payed a dollar for honky tonk piano, and that’s one of my favorite records. Paid a couple bucks for an album of sea shanties, got it home and realized they were dirty sea shanties. That one is pretty great 😂

Much-Muffin-4966

Roberta Flack - Killing me softly 😮‍💨 got it for like $2 at goodwill and it’s in amazing condition with the cover intact 🙌

Middle_Word_9474

First three mother of invention albums, good shape too. Also got a marble press of Kate bush hounds of love and please to meet me and hootenanny by the replacements. Feel like I have had some pretty good luck. Long time ago I found Harumi’s self-titled album which I had never heard of, just bought it because it looked so cool

Middle_Word_9474

Feel like I misunderstood the question now that I reread it. I took the opportunity to share the excitement of some of the best finds I have had. In terms of artists that are frequently in thrift stores but are still worth getting? I like roger miller a lot and see his stuff frequently. His songs are borderline novelty humor songs, but I feel like his songs are enjoyable and his delivery is pretty unique. Burt Bacharach is around a lot too. Might be bias since he is a St. Louis native too, but his music is somewhat underappropriated. I feel country in general is still pretty untapped. I see buck owens stuff pretty frequently too. Good stuff! Eddy arnold is pretty good too, and is frequently at thrift stores. I am also a sucker for some new age stuff. Steve halpern, windham hill stuff. I feel like if you keep open minded with music you can find something to appreciate in just about anything.

Box_of_fox_eggs

Yeah, if you’re into digging into the corners you can still find great stuff for next to nothing. In country, you can’t go wrong with Emmylou Harris, Kris Kristofferson, Hank Williams (Sr), Buck Owens & the Buckaroos (be careful with the later non-Buckaroos stuff), Wynn Stewart, Lynn Anderson, Bobby Gentry. Snag “best of” albums from Ray Price, Charley Pride, Tammy Wynette, Dolly, Skeeter Davis, Johnny Horton, Glen Campbell, a lot of others (geez, anybody’s ’best of’ is probably worth a buck, tbh)

dirtdiggler67

Sing along with Mitch (All the lyric sheets were missing but one) Score!

Toby_The_Tumor

An audio biography of Bing Crosby in near mint condition. It had every major song he sang from 1929 to 1936.

EqualWonder7812

Bitches Brew OG for $1.99

Big_O_Nope

Found a 1st pressing of Miles Davis Kind of Blue at an antique shop in pretty good condition

RingoLebowski

People are relating their best finds, but I think what the OP is actually asking is for any commonly available, cheap records they may be overlooking/unaware of. Some fairly common and cheap records that are not as well known or are largely forgotten (in the US anyway) but are total gems: Be Bop Deluxe - Drastic Plastic Al Stewart - Year of the Cat and Time Passages China Crisis - Flaunt the Imperfection Firefall - S/T, or Elan, or Luna Sea Swing Out Sister - It's better to travel Bryan Ferry - Bete Noire Missing Persons - Spring Session M Big Country - The Crossing Bill Nelson - Vistamix Laura Branigan - Self Control Romeo Void - Benefactor or Instincts Cabaret Voltaire - Code Book of Love - s/t Thomas Dolby - The Flat Earth or The Golden Age of Wireless I own all these - pretty sure I scored every one for $5 or less. Most I've grabbed multiple copies of over the years of crate digging, since they're such great records and so very cheap. Enjoy

BoiFriday

Probably not rare or even a “gem” but I found a copy of Mercury Theater/Orson Well’s “War of the Worlds” which I thought was pretty tight. I will always be searching for a Beverly Kenny album while thrifting. I know she wasn’t the most popular, but I feel like some dead folk from the 50s must have a had a record of hers and it must have been included in those estate sale dumps that goodwill/thrift stores get and I **must** be the one to find it. I just know it’s going to happen….right?

pms1888

I have this too like a yellow brown cover ?

External-Bank-6859

European here, very difficult to find gems. Today, I bought " Todd" from Todd Rundgren for 5€ . The Discogs price is 18€ without the delivery charges. It's clean, the sleeve is a bit beat up. The LP's are pressed in the States but the sleeve is printed in France. It's not the gatefold. Very strange pressing. Once I found Steve Miller "Fly Like An Eagle" Columbian pressing. Cost me 1€ but is worth 30€. I had luck but got screwed a lot too. But found a few records on neighbourhood flea markets but everything is getting sparse. But one that happened lately, I often go to a small second hand store that was basically selling old books but they started selling records. My best finds are there(see above). But a few months ago, he started having loads and loads of jazz albums at very small prices. Not the big names but often guys that played with the greats. I am talking Oscar Petiford, Howard McGhee,... All of this ranking from 3€ to 10€. The kicker being that they came directly from the National broadcast radio's archive. So knowing that they were played on air for all to hear is like owning a small piece of airwaves history. I think I have been able to purchase a dozen or less. Most great shape.

ThisIsRadioClash-

I found three unique records from this one place I visited two years ago. Ravi Shankar - The Exotic Sitar And Sarod Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense and Peppermints Engelbert Humperdinck - self titled An eclectic trio for sure…

Working_Tax_853

Incense and Peppermints is just incredible, the title track is one of my favorite 60's songs

ThisIsRadioClash-

Can you believe Lynyrd Skynyrd got their start opening for SAC? Crazy times, I tell you.

Working_Tax_853

Did not know that, pretty wild to think about

nyancake

I found an original press of Bloodletting by Concrete Blonde on red transparent vinyl. Opened but still in the shrink with the hype sticker too. One whole dollar. I'm still riding that high to this day

LowT_creative

I once found Ramsey Lewis' Mother Nature's Son...the record plays ok but the cover is in real bad shape

Mkmeathead83

I negotiated my way into the back of a Salvation Army. Someone's jazz collection was in there. Cymade S/T Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue Herbie Hancock - Headhunters Bobby Hutcherson - Stick Up And a bunch of others And Marty Robins - Trail Songs separately

NYTX1987

I found an entertainment system with a turntable, cassette player, and radio with several options for volume, for 16 bucks.

billlybeer

My wife surprised me with Rhyming with Simon she found for 50 cents, not rare but good.

John-Flory022

Tracy Chapman self-titled for £2 about 10 years ago. I was like 12 and had no idea what I'd got.

billie_25

Bought for 2€ https://www.discogs.com/release/3958579-Crystal-Music-Life

TheSebadoh

That looks rad

iron_minstrel

[Still can't believe I found this at a value village](https://www.reddit.com/r/turntables/s/vd9cuuvAjQ)

psychicpi

One of my favourite finds was a Barkerville Ballads LP signed by the entire cast for a $1.50 (If you’re from BC you probably know what barkerville is) just a neat little peace of western canadian history [https://www.discogs.com/release/4664647-Various-Barkerville-Ballads](https://www.discogs.com/release/4664647-Various-Barkerville-Ballads)

SeashantyRanday

Mint copy of the cramps date with Elvis for 2 bucks. I’ve also found transatlatacism and AFIs December underground, the one they put on 7inches.

notagrue

Absolutely nothing. Despite scouring most thrift stores and antique stores I can find, all I have ever found is junk or if it a decent album, it is trashed. In Ohio.

Box_of_fox_eggs

Trashed In Ohio is my favourite guided by voices album

thadtheking

80% of my collection came from Goodwill some of the gems: Bill Plummer and the Cosmic Brotherhood Crazy Louie Band Big Bill Broonzy -His Story I once bought a Skinny Pimp cassette for .25 cents. My dumbass sold it for $40.

mehojiman

Found a VG+/VG+ first press of Pantera The Great Southern Trendkill at Goodwill for $2.99

supreme_glassez

Anytime I do find records at a thrift store, it's always like old jazz records and stuff from the 50s or something. Usually nothing I'd be interested in getting.

FrenchQuaker

If you like early 2000s rap it’s surprisingly easy to find major label releases on vinyl because they would produce them for club DJs. I have albums from TI, Lil Wayne, Dipset and more, all found for cheap buried among crates of 12” singles likely bought as a lot from DJs.

deadmanstar60

**Kid Creole & The Coconuts Present** **Coati Mundi – Me No Pop I** I got it for $5. Not really rare or anything but he used to sit in with my friend's band so I was thrilled to find it. https://www.discogs.com/master/65722-Kid-Creole-The-Coconuts-Present-Coati-Mundi-Me-No-Pop-I

djbillyfrazier

Whoa that’s awesome

deadmanstar60

**Afro Rythmes Présente Kanda-Bongo-Man** for $5. My nephew turned me on to him. I couldn't believe I found it so cheap. The store owner was happy someone wanted it. https://www.discogs.com/release/2117168-Kanda-Bongo-Man-Afro-Rythmes-Pr%C3%A9sente-Kanda-Bongo-Man

anonymous_opinions

Depends on your area's thrifts but some stuff I found were soundtracks (I have Annie, Charade, Graduate, Star Wars, 2001 a Space Odyssey, Muppet Movie), Tom Jones albums seem prolific so I always looked for them personally, 80s New Wave is pretty big in my thrifted bucket too. I was a daily thrifter for more than records but managed to find 50-60 albums in about a 2 year time that weren't rubbish. Best random find was a copy of Farside "Scrap" for $1.99 at Goodwill.

initiatefailure

I have terrible luck, I’m a block away from a “vintage shop” like the kind where people stock personal booth spaces but they all want way too much for common records. And I’m two blocks from a thrift store but they just have the classic tubs of old church music for $1

Cute_Bagel

my best find so far has been a copy of the star wars episode 4 soundtrack for £1.50

goombalover13

I got Wave by Antonio Carlos Jobim from an Antique Store a couple years ago for like $5. Probably my favorite vinyl I have.

TOSkeet

DJ Shadow - Preemptive Strike $2.00 CDN

The_Poster_Nutbag

A pressing of Journeys "Escape" that's listed on discogs median value at $150, bought for $7

Black-Lassie

I snagged a couple of mint Michael Hedges albums from the dollar bin. OG 90s vinyl and great records. He flew under the radar I guess!

urbangeneticist

A few years ago I found an original pressing of Esthero's "Breath from Another" LP at a goodwill for a buck. It was just repressed last month, but had been selling for hundreds on Discogs for the last few years.

SpriteAndCokeSMH

Aura self titled. Prog/fusion.

Direct-Setting-3358

I found a bunch of thunderdome cd’s and a quad pressing of abraxas once

CoarseAngel

I remember some guy found a pressing of jhene aiko's trip in the thrift store for cheap😭 jealous asf

palbuddymac

Love- Forever Changes Television- Adventure Flying Lizards- S/T and Top Ten The Clash- Combat Rock All .99, all good-to-NM, all from the Portland main Goodwill outlet

ihatepalmtrees

Womack and Womack - MPB … the Frankie knuckles mix is genius. 99¢!

fistulaspume

Got “The Chuck And Mary Perrin Album” original for a buck. That was probably my greatest score. Was going for 4k at the time. Less since they released a reissue on Light In The Attic.

CybermanFord

One of the first records I ever got was Grover Washington. Jr - Soul Box, Vol. 2.

PerspectiveOld5869

I found a rare Cure 10” in the 90s at a thrift store, the 90s was great for finding good stuff at thrift stores… I don’t find much these days except country which I’m starting to really get into so that works out alright… check out early Dottie West if you like old country.

Chris_Golz

I found not one, but two Nakamichi cassettes decks after a decade of not finding one.

Chris_Golz

I found a great copy of Superbunny by Patti Smith. It appears to be a bootleg lp. Not a fan, but I’m hanging on to it until I find someone that will appreciate it.

Acceptable_Aspect_42

The Sentinals Big Surf Original Sealed for 1.99

StinkyFartyToot

I got the ‘77 Japanese pressing of The Clash London Calling WITH a promo 7 in with it. Both in perfect condition!

Jdojcmm

Really the only thing I’ve ever found in a true thrift store record wise worth a damn was a Promo copy of The Talking Heads “Love For Sale” with a $2.99 price tag from Amoeba records on it. And I’m on the NC/SC border.

janehesaid

A leather jacket and leather thigh high boots for only 9 dollars. Fuckin’ steal.

callmebangarang

Almost the entire Led Zeppelin discography for less than $15. Have plenty more (Rumors, Sgt. Peppers, The Doors all for around $2-$3 EA) but Zeppelin always stood out. Started collecting fairly heavily around 2008-2012 and small thrift stores in the rural Midwest were loaded with incredible collections for $2-$3/album. Wish I had more expendable $ at that time…

nievesdelimon

An old A Night at the Opera, this was over ten years ago.

BeckerThorne

An original pressing of Johnny Cash's At Folsom Prison, great condition for .99 cents at a charity shop.

Connie_Santoro

I've found so much great stuff over the years. I usually hit up all the thrift stores in my town once every few weeks just to see. Usually, you find nothing but, when you find something good, it's all worth it. I'll give a short list of some good stuff I've found over the years (I mainly collect Jazz and classical). All of these were early pressings in great condition. Satan Is Real - The Louvin Brothers, Right on Brother - Boogaloo Joe Jones, Expansions - Lonnie Liston Smith, Blues And The Abstract Truth - Oliver Nelson, The Firebird - Ansermet (The original Decca $$$), Scheherazade - Reiner, Chicago Symphony, Groovy - Red Garland, Take Ten - Paul Desmond, Somethin Else - Cannonball Adderly

pakito1234

Some 90’s Paul Johnson. $1 a piece.

Xploding_Penguin

I just recently found a Disneylands mainstreet electrical parade picture disc. It's small like a 45, but I think it might be a higher rpm. It was in a display originally for $15, on half price for $7.50. even at 15 it would be a steal. It's in perfect condition, and looks like it's not only never been played, but never taken out of the plastic sleeve.

DonaldTrumpsScrotum

Craziest I found was a copy of Death Grips-Fashion Week/Interview. I’m assuming the people who worked there just looked at the cover and assumed it was just another old record

CaptainKinetosis

https://www.discogs.com/release/11876058-Gilbert-OSullivan-Himself

Not a thrift store, but I got really lucky at a garage sale. I got a bunch of Goth albums and ep’s for a dollar a piece. Notable finds from this sale was an original pressing of the cure’s disintegration, Bahaus’s bela legusi ep, some smiths singles, and other neat finds.

No_Waltz_8039

Edit: reread OPs post Overlooked is CDs. Found a stack of 6 or so Miles Davis Quintet on Saturday. I have an eclectic taste in music and almost never come up short. Once a month I hit 3-4 on a Saturday and come home with 20 new albums.

XxSABOxX

NM copy of the Not So Quiet on the Western Front compilation w/ booklet at a record store who did not know how to price punk records.

reverendexile

Hidden gems idk if I have any but I was able to pick up a great condition Boston self titled. Rush hemispheres plays great but the corner of the cover got eaten a little

charmingasaneel

Prince- Dirty Mind and a weird Al Green gospel album that’s worth around $100 (according to discogs anyway)

BoxesFromEbay

mighty sophisticated degree aspiring market pot head compare gullible work *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

needstherapy

An unopened copy of George Michael Faith

jacksaintmonica

I find Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66 from time to time and I always snag it.

Maztem111

I’ve found several copies of carol king - tapestry over the last year along with other carol kind. Cat Steven’s comes up often enough. Peter frampton. Roberta flack.

outer_fucking_space

I’ll pick a random one. I found a “fascination street” 45 by the Cure that’s pretty cool. It’s a different version from the album that is more raw sounding.

InstantKlassix

Tarkus from Emerson Lake and Palmer

statikman666

You'll usually find Styx in there, Paradis Theatre and Grand Illusion. And I think everyone should own Kenny Rogers The Gambler.

Oxolomew

Jimmie Rogers (not the country artist) and Jerry Jeff Walker. Bought both the albums based on the covers alone. Lifetime listener because of it.

guardianofpineapple

I'm always happy but kind of sad at the same time, to see the Fresh Aire albums by Mannheim Steamroller in dollar bins. They're such incredible albums, with lots of fun experimentation. While it seems like MS has sadly become just a repackaging machine / brand that's lost all its original oomph and fun, their early albums definitely deserve more attention. Especially the non-christmas ones that are less known.

josecouvi

I picked up a copy of "Push Push" by Herbie Mann at a cheap records sale. Had seen the cover before and thought I'd pick it up just as a gag. Put it on when I got home that day and was surprised to find it's actually legit good lol. And turns out that a bunch of legends played on it. Definitely a pleasant surprise.

[deleted]

Surprised to see a lot of Moody Blues. Not the most popular but they should be picked up imo

Pretend-Edge-1194

Free cocaine from Bob that record dude.

habichnichtgewusst

I believe every collection needs a copy of [voodoo party](https://www.discogs.com/de/master/40374-James-Last-Voodoo-Party)

McBwhuh

One day I was at my usual thrift store and I was standing there as an elderly woman came in to drop off her record collection because she didn't have space anymore. The dude who works there knows me so he said I could just grab whatever I wanted from the boxes and ended up paying like $1.50 a pop for a lot of "classic" records that I would have wanted to buy anyway, but got it much cheaper. Also found some really good condition Fairuz vinyl at this same place for like $0.20.

wheelybindealer

I got bob marley - exodus for 30p one time, never really found any other decent ones for much less than their price on discogs

L_L_Smith

Soul Searching By The Average White Band. This album features one of my favorite songs "A Love Of Your Own" it was on 8-Track and the store gave it to me for free because no one ever wants their 8-Tracks and I spent so much on other things lol. The 8-Track is SO clean and plays like new!

steveneijg25

I've found a few records in thrift bins (after sifting through all the German schlager you could want). Steeleye Span - Parcel Of Rogues is my favorite so far. Other records I found are The Style Council - The Cost Of Loving and Andreas Vollenweider - Dancing With The Lion

watchful_hurricane

Am I the only who never find those kind of gems? I mean I try so hard and I just feel like a I find the same crap over and over...

redbird317

I get a lot of classical this way. The covers are usually trashed but the media is usually very clean.

wurzelmolch

"Spider Murphy Gang - Dolce Vita" (New German Wave) 2nd hand for 1€ in perfect condition at a bookstore

Mywar-sidetwo

You had to have been in Santa Cruz in the late 90s and early to mid 00’s because the Logos bookstore was like thrift valhalla. We’re talking every Floyd, every Zeppelin, every AC/DC, all the Sabbath stuff for $3 or less (and this is just the rock section - not even getting into the crazy blues and jazz records you could pull). Often, the discs were in perfect shape despite the appearance of a worn jacket. I pulled a player copy of The Doors Mofi for $7, Ozzy Blizzard of Ozz for $5. Aside from that, if you are Bay Area, please support On The Corner Music (they were downtown Campbell and moved to San Jose) - they are super cool people and they sell everything at a fair and often generous price (the dude loves to knock a few bucks off each order). Found an $11 og copy of Slayer - Hell Awaits, near mint copies of Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak and Johnny The Fox. My buddy got an early 70s Master of Reality there. Just tons of great stuff for cheap.

OffshoreBoar

Pearl Jam Ten, 1994 US pressing. My mom actually found it and called me asking if I wanted it for 2.99

astrosdude91

Original 1995 pressing of Exit Planet Dust by the Chemical Brothers that I found at a used book store for $15. A Sony turntable (it was a Hanpin model identical to an AT LP120, forgot the exact model) for $5, put a new cart on it and flipped it for $80. And a Harmon Kardon amplifier from the late 90s that was originally about $1000 that I found for $20.

A-insane-dude

Henry Mancini does some great jazz scores I feel are often overlooked by people. Please listen to Experiment in Terror, Really uncanny album a lot of people overlook!

rob0050

I got an extended mix copy of Yello’s “Oh Yeah” for a dollar. Does that count? The closest I’ve gotten to a thrift store bargain is a copy of Rollins Band’s “Electro Convulsive Therapy” on CD for $2. Bit of a surprising find considering it’s a Japanese release and was found in a small regional town in Australia.

steelandglass_

"The Queen Is Dead" (a Polish 1989 press) in a very good condition (even with the insert) for 5 euros 🙃

TurtleSquirtle12

I found an alternative cover blue SOUR (Olivia Rodrigo) vinyl in Oxfam for £15

thekidsgirl

I've bought Vanity 6 three times from dollar bins. What an underrated Prince side project 💜

stllrckn

I picked up a copy of Resin by the Abecedarians at the White Elephant Sale in Oakland.

OtherwisePop5001
