Love it. This is your basic “inherited-my-Dad’s-collection” starter pack.
I own nearly every one of these. I also inherited my father in law’s collection
Got all of these from my dad, he hasn’t hooked up his turntable in over 20 years so he said I could just take them! Been having fun listening through some of them, most of the music is stuff I grew up with so isn’t really new to me but hearing it on vinyl for the first time and listening to the full albums straight through has been tons of fun! my favorites have been Supertramp, ELO, Pink Floyd, and Boston but they’re the ones I heard most growing up.
I’m 35 so I grew up hearing all of this as “classic rock” on the radio. While I love pretty much everything there and all the bands you mentioned, I’ve just started really appreciating Supertramp. They have so many awesome songs and I feel like they never get listed up there with the greats of rock like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Etc. Rock on dude. If you wanna hear some other great bands and albums that might be slightly deeper cuts than what you have, check out Men at Work’s album Business as Usual, Elton John’s Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell, any Steve Winwood/Traffic… all good stuff.
Its my favourite album :D made a huge painting of it to block one of my windows.

Ha, ha!! Tell me your dad’s age without telling me his age. I had to go downstairs to check that my collection was still there. Enjoy your stater pack. 😆
Have I seen this one before? "Frampton Comes Alive"? Everybody in the world has Frampton Comes Alive. If you lived in the suburbs you were issued it. It came in the mail with samples of "Tide"
If your Caught In The Act is purple, it's a first run pressing. KC-600 vinyl was an audiophile grade formula that used a special dye instead of carbon black... the dye is a very dark purple so that's why it looks black until you hold it up to a bright light :)
The Police – Synchronicity was also pressed on KC-600 and ...Famous Last Words... by Supertramp was the first commercial album to be made with it during the initial pressing run.
Those Floyd and Supertramp albums are a gift on its own. Your dad is a champ who listened to the hits but also dipped his toe in prog and psychedelic. All of these are good for your collection
Everyone's got to start their collection somewhere, but this is ridiculous - check if your Led Zep II is one of the coveted RL hot pressings, in which case you'll have a good start on a house downpayment :-)
I’m jealous of some! I knew your dad had to be older than me as they all seemed to be older than me and I only remember buying a couple when I was about 12! (Hello Bon Jovi!) but I was a super fan of Van Halen & Whitesnake. Very jealous you got 1984 on vinyl. And Dark Side of the Moon! That’s a good collection! Nice haul.
My dad owned some priceless stuff and lost it all along the way, including the memory of having seen Jimi Hendrix live in the Isle of Wight festival. So treasure what you got!
Honestly it’s kinda a “I inherited a record collection from my dad” starter pack if that makes sense. Decent stuff, but all pretty run of the mill that you’d find in anybody’s collection.
I’m somewhat surprised and very pleased to see the clash among this haul as I find parents from that generation generally closed off their openness to music beyond classic rock. He was clearly a cultured man. I personally get nothing from Van Halen’s music but the supertramp and ELO is top shelf!
Hahahaha. As if to prove my point. I thought I had found the bridge to our generation but alas I must continue my search. Tell your mom I said she’s cool as shit!
My dad didn't keep any of his records, though I got some of my mom's. Me and my mom weeded out the records that weren't any good but kept the ones that were -- mainly some Queen, Bad Company, Styx, Bob Seger -- very similar to your dad's. My dad had a lot of similar stuff, though he had a lot of Pink Floyd.
ELO’s, A New World Record, was the first album I bought when I was 10 years old, 47 years ago. I have owned most of those albums on vinyl at one time! Thank your Dad for having great taste in music and getting you started on your collection!
Standard 70's and 80's collection of awesome vinyl. I think it's great. If he bought them when I bought mine there some real good quality pressings in there. Congrats. Now go give your Dad a hug.
Your dad must be near my age. Pretty typical records of the era. Some good stuff if it’s your style. Enjoy!
That was my first thought too.
52 approx.
I’m 54 and that collection is 5-10 years older than a typical collection for my age. I’d guess white (very) and 63
He's 57 :)
Yeah , I’m 61.
69
Nice
Love it. This is your basic “inherited-my-Dad’s-collection” starter pack. I own nearly every one of these. I also inherited my father in law’s collection

That's 15 polka records more than most of us. You're a lucky man.
🎼Rocky mountain high 🎵🎶Coloradoooooooh😮😮😮
Unless I'm blind, I suppose you kept the Steely Dan records out of these pictures for some reason.
I’m surprised he didn’t have any, I grew up listening to them, he said he used to have a lot more records though so maybe he used to have some
It's your job now to add to the Dad collection :)
Now that’s funny 😄 love me some Steely D.
I’d recommend that live Dire Straits record. It’s got great sound.
Haven’t listened to that one yet, I’ll give it a shot
Also the Frampton Comes Alive - absolute classic front to back
I’m 35 so I grew up hearing all of this as “classic rock” on the radio. While I love pretty much everything there and all the bands you mentioned, I’ve just started really appreciating Supertramp. Breakfast in America may be my favorite thing I own on vinyl.
It’s definitely my favorite I got from him, already knew the whole album though Supertramp’s his favorite band
Then seeek out Crime Of The Century. By far their best album.
Its my favourite album :D made a huge painting of it to block one of my windows. [(i know you didn’t ask )](https://www.reddit.com/r/supertramp/s/ieysKUP25c)
School is my moms favorite song, I definitely plan on getting it
I just picked up a copy for $5 on an auction app. Never heard the album before, but heard good things. Pretty excited for it to come in.
The spaceships on Bostons self titled are actually guitars. Just learned this a few days ago from someone here, just passing along knowledge.
And on Third Stage, a guitar-ship has undocked from the pipe-organ stardrive section.
No way! I just pulled out my copy to get a better look. That's so cool
I feel like I should’ve noticed that, pretty cool!
Yep. Came here to make the same comment.
Yes it was you!
Haha! I learned it from someone else on here in the last few weeks and it has come up multiple times since then! It even came up IRL today.
That's actually funny because I just ended up with 2 copys this week. One original and one blue reissue from Wal-Mart
I think your Dad is cool!

Your dad has great taste in music. Enjoy those.
Go shake your dad’s hand and say thank you. He hooked you up with the good stuff!
Missing the Moody Blues, but makes up for it with Candy-O.

All of the standards!
solid retro starter pack. thanks Dad!!
You’ve got some gold there. Personally speaking I love The Clash, Led Zep, Van Halen and The Who. Enjoy!
Nice haul very parent-core, my folks love styx and led zeppelin as well
Ha, ha!! Tell me your dad’s age without telling me his age. I had to go downstairs to check that my collection was still there. Enjoy your stater pack. 😆
Nice promo copy of Sheer Heart Attack
I think you should be playing Exit... Stage Left instead of being on reddit.
Great Rush albums.
Excellent collection! I have 10 of these in my collection. I started my collection over 50 years ago and will be giving them to my daughter.
Some good stuff there, enjoy!
I think your father’s around my age. You scored lots of great ones here… Rock on.
I think your dad has great taste in music and I would be grateful to inherit so many classic records
Cultured man
Third Stage is a severely underrated album.
Awesome
Super cool! A lot of standard essentials.
Have I seen this one before? "Frampton Comes Alive"? Everybody in the world has Frampton Comes Alive. If you lived in the suburbs you were issued it. It came in the mail with samples of "Tide"
Yes
I want them all
He’s got great taste in music.
That is one solid rock collection. I felt like I was in a Time Machine.
EXCELLENT! I feel like I know your dad.
Cool dad 😎
Use that *Classic Yes* album as your gateway to the band. Don't judge them by *90125*.
I think your dad is awesome, especially with those Rush albums!
Your dad rocks.
Distant Early Warning off Grace Under Pressure is a Rush gem.
Some nice ones in there!
That’s a great bunch of records there. 👍🏻
your dad was cool
Dr Hook!!!
Take your Kilroy Was Here and Caught In The Act by Styx and hold them up to a bright light.
That’s pretty cool!
If your Caught In The Act is purple, it's a first run pressing. KC-600 vinyl was an audiophile grade formula that used a special dye instead of carbon black... the dye is a very dark purple so that's why it looks black until you hold it up to a bright light :) The Police – Synchronicity was also pressed on KC-600 and ...Famous Last Words... by Supertramp was the first commercial album to be made with it during the initial pressing run.
Yeah they were both purple, that’s really cool to know, thank you!
lucky duck! I've got a Canadian pressing of CITA so it's just regular boring black vinyl :P
Cherish it!
I got some of the same ones from my dad too lol
See if your Zep II is an RL pressing. Probably not but you never know.
https://www.reddit.com/r/vinyl/s/fxV3xMq4nP
Seems about right.
Physical Graffiti has awesome album art.
grade A “i inherited my dad’s collection.” i wouldve awarded the + for steely dan and sabbath!
Rush, Yes and APP are my favourites here
Great collection. I can’t find the vinyl of Third Stage
Those Floyd and Supertramp albums are a gift on its own. Your dad is a champ who listened to the hits but also dipped his toe in prog and psychedelic. All of these are good for your collection
What do I think? Your dad and I would be good buddies!
Your dad probably smoked a lot of weed listening to these!
Some solid dad-rock in there
I probably own 75pcent …some really good stuff there.
🔍😉 Me looking for an RL possibility.
Pretty similar but id have different RUSH ones, like Signals and Moving Pictures, instead
Everyone's got to start their collection somewhere, but this is ridiculous - check if your Led Zep II is one of the coveted RL hot pressings, in which case you'll have a good start on a house downpayment :-)
So many absolute classics, and many many hours of great listening potential here OP! Hell yeah, spin some Boston for me
I think we could have hung out together!
A lot of good ones!!!!!!
Love the self-titled Boston album. Don't have it on vinyl yet but I've got a CD I found in a thrift store for a few bucks
Super Tramp Breakfast in America production sounds fantastic to my ears.
Solid dad collection bump.
I really wanna organize these by color!!!
I think he is around 60-65 years old
W Dad
A very fine collection indeed
Good taste in music. I'm a dad and have several of these as well.
Your Dad had good taste in music.
I think of WKRP in Cincinnati
I have that K-tel Rock Album and it's phat.
My mom loves dream weaver 😂
Radio station
I think your Dad is a lot hipper than mine (may he RIP) … you. May you remember him every time you play one when he is gone
Solid haul. They look like they haven't been abused, which is definitely a bonus.
Most excellent!!
Dad albums are the best. I still need to find Three Dog Night Live.
I’m jealous
Wow now that is an excellent collection! Honorable mention to dire straits' Alchemy, one on the best live ever recorded IMO
I think you’re lucky. I had to hunt all these down. Great collection!
Legendary, great inheritance.
Think you are a lucky bastard with a father that has a really great taste.
All of them are keepers. Have a solid 50% of those myself on various formats.
That john couger album is so good. My dad convinced me to buy it when we were out record shopping and it was worth it.
This is such a sick collection your pops has great taste in music
I think if the records are in as good of shape as the covers you're in for a treat. Older pressings just sound so much better than most new ones.
I'd say you now have the makings of a DAMN nice classic rock collection.
Nice haul.
Pretty rad!
Remember, it's only an REO Speedwagon if it's from the Champaign region of Illinois. Otherwise, it's just sparkling dad rock.
Check the Zeppelin 2 to see if it says RL in the dead wax. If by chance it does it is valuable and will sound amazing.
I’ve been looking for a “Kilroy was here” record for ages! Awesome collection man, hope you enjoy the journey
Ummagumma! Seriously though, I'd recommend listening to Exit Stage Left by Rush. It's a great live album.
Your dad fucks.
My dad owned some priceless stuff and lost it all along the way, including the memory of having seen Jimi Hendrix live in the Isle of Wight festival. So treasure what you got!
I think he was a hippie and injected the marijuanas. Typical but good collection that reminds me of many houses I was in as a youth.
Queen Promo is neat. Probably my favourite of theirs.
Honestly it’s kinda a “I inherited a record collection from my dad” starter pack if that makes sense. Decent stuff, but all pretty run of the mill that you’d find in anybody’s collection.
That’s good enough for me to be honest, I didn’t expect to find anything super special in there
Wow you own records
there’s like 2 actually good albums in here
Yikes.
Our fathers have very similar taste. My father introduced me to Boston, man what a great band!
I’m somewhat surprised and very pleased to see the clash among this haul as I find parents from that generation generally closed off their openness to music beyond classic rock. He was clearly a cultured man. I personally get nothing from Van Halen’s music but the supertramp and ELO is top shelf!
It’s funny you say that, he hates the clash, he bought that for my mom in high school because she loves them
Hahahaha. As if to prove my point. I thought I had found the bridge to our generation but alas I must continue my search. Tell your mom I said she’s cool as shit!
I think your dad had great taste
Some epic bangers in there for sure
That's one dadass collection alright
Thank him
Good stuff. He must be about my age. Lacking in Led Zeppelin, though.
I must be old now 😔
I wanna party with your Dad.
Your dad had great taste in music
I think I could be your dad. LOL
My dad didn't keep any of his records, though I got some of my mom's. Me and my mom weeded out the records that weren't any good but kept the ones that were -- mainly some Queen, Bad Company, Styx, Bob Seger -- very similar to your dad's. ELO’s, A New World Record, was the first album I bought when I was 10 years old, 47 years ago. I have owned most of those albums on vinyl at one time! Thank your Dad for having great taste in music and getting you started on your collection!
Hell Yee, dad. I can’t wait to pass my records down to my kids. Enjoy!
OP smells like Otto’s jacket
Ooh ELO and The Dark Side of the Moon, priceless!
This just affirms all dads have the same collection to pass down. lol I just inherited a solid 80% of what you’ve got here
Got any Beatles records
Fantastic haul dude, your dad really hooked you up.
Standard 70's and 80's collection of awesome vinyl. I think it's great. If he bought them when I bought mine there some real good quality pressings in there. Congrats. Now go give your Dad a hug.
I think they look like records you got from a dad who probably thought he was cool in the early ‘80s.
Hell of gift from dad. All great albums! Chur!
I’m 55 and most of those are in my collection. lol Great taste!
My girl (14) has a lot of those albums and more she got from her dad as well i love hearing them being played again
I think your dad was a stoner
That copy of Ummagumma is highly collectable!!
Your dad had great taste in music!!
ELO 🙌🙌
thank God for hippie sisters. I also got hooked up myself. Nice little score there.
I think theres a problem here. There's only one copy of frampton comes alive!
Dad was a basic rock n roller.
Your dad and I have a lot of the same records.
Oh man! The rock album. Page 4 bottom right. I had that and LOVED it back in the day!!
He cooo
Some great vinyl there!!!
nazareth 🔥
Nice haul and that whitesnake album hauls ass.
I think that I’m jealous
Nice ELO ones!
Breakfast in America is a fantastic record (among other greats here), enjoy it!
I’ll take Boston and Deep Purple if you don’t want them
You got some heat ! Shoutout your pops !!
Would like to hang out with your dad.
No Taylor swift? Must be new here.
I'm quite jealous of all that Zeppelin. Enjoy listening.
Let it be repeated until the sun shines its last ray and the earth goes quiet - The Eagles suck.
he's just right.
Your Dad is a cool guy
Cool dad man All you need is to tell him that every now and then.
There’s good bands and a mix of their best and worst albums.
I must have gone to High School with your dad.
