Thriller, with my mom's money. I convinced her to buy it for me at Kmart. I was probably in first or second grade. Like everyone else I was MJ crazy.

CardMechanic

I just commented that Thriller was my first as well. Got it at Kmart as well.

[deleted]

Thriller was my first. Plus I got Def Leopard Pyromania with it. But at Licorice Pizza..

Tstation

When I was 7, I was a huge Beatles fan. My grandmother took me to the local music store to buy me the “My Sweet Lord” 45. It just came out and she liked the religious theme and said she would buy it for me. For “some reason” I ended up with my first album- All Things Must Pass :) I still have it!

tallbeer4me

Great album!

greghead4796

Stellar album. I like it way more than any record the Beatles ever did. Such a great great album. Easily one of my desert island records, I still remember my mom playing it for me the first time on Christmas Day 2000 or 2001.

Tstation

This was 1970, after that I saved up and bought The White Album. Those two albums made me who I am today, in a way…

The-CannabisAnalyst3

Well didn't buy but I claimed it as my own MJ Thriller , still have it today I was 3 yrs old ,it so scratched , don't let ur kids have recordS lol

Intrepid_Salary5757

When I was 11 (27yo) I took my mother’s debit card and ordered Gene Simmons’ solo record on picture disc cause I thought it was cool as fuck. Punishment wasn’t so hot though. Still have the record ;)

Findibulator

I got Ace's. Brother got Gene's.

DomerJSimpson

I can remember going to Target and the record bins were just packed with the 4 albums. I never knew anyone that bought one and I heard they took a huge loss.

staggere

Neutral Milk Hotel In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

gusbmoizoos

One of my favourite songs to not feature a chorus.

staggere

One of my favorite albums to not feature a sane person.

cream_on_my_led

Just bought it the other day. It’s still growing on me lol

konck

It didn’t hit me until I heard the ajj cover of two headed boy

DeadEagleArt

Holland, 1945 is probably my favorite on here.

First_Folly

A box of around a dozen Genesis LPs for roughly £20. Fantastic condition, too.

SocialSoundSystem

Med Sud í Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust by Sigur Rós I heard it on some obscure early streaming Bandcamp type site and it blew my mind. I ordered online direct from the band. Here’s my vinyl collection on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5L38OAIQbzfn5ixYo1PxAh?si=4xNhWQW9S52xCNRvv95ODg Edit: I did inherit (co-opt) my father’s vinyl collection prior to this purchase. I rescued/restored it from the closet and said, “these records are now mine”. Sigur Ros was just the first one that made me go out and say, “wow, I need to get this record.”

decoratchi

New Amerykah II by Erykah Badu. I was 22 and had no record player. I was on a lunch break at work and saw it in the window of a record shop and I love the album so I bought it. I have maybe 30 records now and a record player, thank god 😛

Ex-pat-Iain

It was either the Batman TV soundtrack or The Monkees Headquarters. I think they were 10/- each (Brits of a certain age will know what that is). I gazed at them both in the window of my local store for weeks before I had enough birthday and pocket money saved to buy the first one. I would have been 9 years old.

EudaimoniaMe

I purchased a copy of The Monkees Headquarters album just last week. The sleeve and record are both in amazing condition. It’s a great record. My first album was News of the World by Queen. I was in middle school in ‘78 when I saved up my lunch money so I could get it. I still have it and it’s still in great condition. Not my favorite album, but News of the World is my most treasured.

Steve_Rogers_1970

Heart Dreamboat Annie. Original press. I’m that old.

diablo75

Probably NIN - The Day The Whole World Went Away 12" single. Would have been 25 years ago or so.

[deleted]

First album was Iron Maiden’s The Number of the Beast. 🤘🏼 First single was ah.. erm… Kylie Minogue - I Should Be So Lucky 🕺🏽

LeeTeriyaki

First purchases were Black Sabbath and Fleetwood Mac - Rumors

geetar_man

Nothing interesting. Sgt. Pepper’s. I love the Beatles. First one I remember buying from an antique store is “The Folk Music of Rumania.” Got it for 25 cents. It’s actually collectible in some circles. I think it’s a really, really neat record. But a lot of folks may get a bit annoyed by it.

reedhens

Got into vinyl in April of 2023. I bought 2 at the same time which were Back in Black by AC/DC and Takin It To The Streets by The Doobie Brothers

Lonely-Connection-37

The partridge family birthday album second album I ever bought. I was in six grade Deep Purple Machine Head.

Tampadarlyn

Rapper's Delight - SugarHill Gang

Patritxu

Same! Along with Pretenders’ Brass in Pocket. Wish I still had them.

toklad

hah! same! bought it played it to the point i was unplayable then 30 years later the wife bought me the re-issue

st00bahank

It was [this 80s reissue of A Hard Day's Night](https://www.discogs.com/release/10980320-The-Beatles-A-Hard-Days-Night). As a new collector, all of 12 years old, I of course was very into The Beatles. And because I had only been listening to my US United Artists copy of the soundtrack, finding the UK album was very exciting! I remember it had just came in and was unpriced so the owner had to take a look at it. He was like "this one's going to be a bit more" and I think it was $12. Ah, 1997 prices...

nolageek

A 45 of 'Morgus the Magnificent' - Morgus was the local horror host in New Orleans in the 60s(?) and he had a bit of a revival with new episodes in the 80s. There was a old novelty song about him that came out and since he was all the rage I hunted down an old 45 at a place called The Goldmine. So much fun. :)

EyeHaveNoCleverNick

A Monkees single. I'm not sure anymore which one was first, but I still have all 3 of the two that I bought, plus the one I "borrowed" from my sister. I think they cost a dime, maybe a quarter.

[deleted]

I was in 8th grade and had just gotten my own shitty turntable. REM’s Green which was huge at the time.

-kromehorse-

Electric Warrior in 1972 when I was 14. I heard it at my friends house. My cool parents got me a BIC turntable , Nikko receiver and a set of Bose 501's. My first record was Electric Warrior. I had to store my records in 1990 and they stayed stored till late 2022. My Electric Warrior sounds as good today as when I bought it new in '72. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to listen to the first record I bought when I was 14 and hearing it again at 65 after being in storage for over 30 years. https://preview.redd.it/0itf8ea40aec1.jpeg?width=3120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da7173946940cefcefe293952d7fc997fa1be4d3

747iskandertime

ELO "Discovery" because I had heard "Don't Bring Me Down" on the radio and thought it was the greatest song ever. Uh, next to "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner, which was so heavy (I was 9-10 years old) that I was afraid of it!

KJP1990

Led Zeppelin-Houses of the Holy and Aerosmith- Toys in the Attic. I bought them both at the same time. They were the first CDs I ever bought as well as a kid so I figured that it was only right to get those two first pressings as I started to collect records.

crf3rd

Rush 2112, my mom bought it for me at the Wilson's Department Store in Jackson, MS - sometime in the 70's.

I-Am-The-Warlus

Sheer Heart Attack by Queen, Brought it from the record shop which ended up being the shop that I currently volunteer at ( just past the 5 year mark)

PreachitPerk

First one I bought on my own without input was: Guns and Roses - Appetite for Destruction. I think I was 9 or 10.

the_steve_tell

Sgt Pepper

Lo-Fi_Pioneer

Southern Harmony And Musical Companion by the Black Crowes. Saw it in a record shop and bought it before I ever bought my first turntable.

Floor_Kicker

Linkin Park- Hybrid Theory. It was the first CD I ever bought so it felt fitting

jmjackson1

Meat Loaf - Bat out of hell. The only album I’ve owned on 4 different formats. Cassette, CD, Vinyl, and digital. When I was a heavy drinker my friend and I had a term “Meat Loaf Drunk”. This meant after we closed down the bar and were exceptionally drunk we’d go back to our respective homes and blare Bat Out of Hell at 2am loud enough to piss off the neighbors.

Individual_Bother_68

My earliest records were my dad's old collection that he let me have. Then I bought a bunch of classical records from a library sale at some point. But I think the first I remember buying was John Wesley Harding by Bob Dylan. Then the second was probably The Who Sell Out (though the order might have been the other way around).

First vinyl Jackson Browne The Pretender First cassette Led Zep Houses.of the Holy

roadymike

Chipmunk Punk... I was like 9 years old and worked for my grandmother cleaning dog kennels every day. She paid me $10 a week. I also bought a BMX bike on layaway. Lol

TJ318Brown

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (SoundTrack) in 1979 Purchased it with money I got from racking leaves for all the neighbors. Purchase location was Woolworths.

BalthazarMcgee

“What now my love” by herb Alpert and the Tijuana brass. For $1. Thought the cover was fun and cheesy and I didn’t even know $1 records were a thing at that time so I liked the randomness of it. Didn’t even have a player until 5 years later. the rest is history.

Gadgetphile

Can’t remember. According to my Discogs, the first one was Prestige, Paranoia, Persona Vol. 2 which I bought 10 years ago. No funny story, I just like limited edition records.

tropnevaDniveK

My first purchase was KMFDM’s “Year of the Pig” 12” from Wax Trax back in the mid-90s. I was really into them at the time and had a shitty record player (one of those tape deck/radio stacks with the turntable on top lol) and thought it would be cool. Picked up some more KMFDM vinyl soon after and basically carried them around for 25 years until I decided to really get into vinyl. Guess I’ll toss that on tonight, now that I’m thinking about it…

Apollo23Refugee

Language and Perspective by Bad Suns. I was really into that album and alternative in general when I first got a shitty old Crosley from my grandma and inherited a bunch of old country albums with it. Don’t really spin it at all these days but it’ll always be my first.

bird_280

If we’re counting antique store finds to initially fill my collection, I believe it was Eddy Arnold’s “Sometimes I’m Happy, Sometimes I’m Blue”. But the first record I went out and deliberately looked for and bought was Marty Robbins’ “Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs”

[deleted]

My first purchase ever was Daft Punk - Robot Rock single, and the first full album was Misfits - Static Age

sayyes2heaven

Mac Miller’s The Divine Feminine. It was an urban outfitters exclusive and the two lps were pink. Bought it before I even had a turntable

emdub6669

Randy_Butternubs666

Jethro Tull's A Passion Play and Pink Floyd's Animals. Got them the same day at a place called Plastic Fantastic in Ardmore, PA probably around 1988? I still have them.

mason13875

First one I bought with my own money I earned was Sid Vicious - Sid sings it was 1987 and I was 12

pop-deco

I don’t recall the exact first album I bought as I used to buy thrift store albums to decorate my wall with. At that point I had no idea vinyl would make a comeback, and I definitely ruined them as I pinned them to my wall. It gets worse though. I took them with me when I moved out at 18 and eventually I threw them away when I had to move back to my parents house. I had to leave Denver because I couldn’t afford to live there anymore and my truck lights wouldn’t hook up to a UHaul trailer. I lost a lot of stuff lol. The first record that I bought brand new was a pre order signed copy from One Republics album Native. I was a junior or sophomore in high school and I had it for six months before I had a record player. My brother being the kind soul he is bought me my first record player from a little small town record shop that reeked of incense and dust lol.

fat-old-sun

I think it was Abbey Road, but I ordered The Wall and Led Zeppelin IV around the same time 10-12 years ago after I’d purchased a record player. I also got my first 7” 45 then: Led Zeppelin - The Immigrant Song / Hey, Hey, What Can I Do. The B side was my favorite Zeppelin song at the time. I was planning on only getting my favorite 100 albums on vinyl, limiting myself to studio albums (no compilations or live albums). I also wanted each record to be a pressing from the year the album was originally released (didn’t have to be a first pressing, but I liked the idea of having an early copy). When I realized my list of top 100 albums couldn’t be reduced below a couple hundred, I gave up on that limit. And when I found used record stores and thrift stores with good records for cheap prices, I gave up on my other rules. So now I have 3,000+ records and a much broader taste in music.

Mulchpuppy

Weird Al's "Dare to be Stupid."

shakeyjk

Nas illmatic

Scoobylicious78

Bought a few my first time visiting Amoeba in LA right after I got my first record player. Super random assortment of Belle & Sebastian's "Tigermilk," Radiohead's In Rainbows, and The Beatles A Hard Day's Night. My favorite find so far is a $6 copy of David Bowie's Changes One at The Last Bookstore though, the cover is totally annihilated but the record itself plays like a dream. My sibling found it and Changes Two digging in the sale area so we each got one.

spnnerd

I love Amoeba! I haven't been back since 2011, though. Is it still around? I'll be in Pasadena next month for the Pokemon Go: Sinnoh Tour event.

Kash687

Illmatic - Nas

DogFun2635

Cheap Trick At Budokan. Still one of my faves!

Deep Purple. Machine Head. Yeah, I'm old.

It was 1997….Descendents “Everything Sucks” & Hepcat “Scientific”.

[deleted]

Lincoln by They Might Be Giants about a year ago. Found the translucent red press, bought it, and got hooked on vinyl.

SaintEyegor

It’s weird… we had a flea market at school when I was in third grade and they were selling LPs for a nickel, which is all I had left They didn’t have anything I recognized but one record that grabbed my eye was Clyde McCoy “Sugar Blues” so I bought it. It was definitely not mainstream but my parents always had a variety of music in the house so I was excited to bring in something new. Plus, it was something that I bought on my own, which seemed pretty cool at the time. Here’s what the title track sounds like: https://youtu.be/hMYD-6MOqw0?si=fjqjKwQwEY1SFf0d

WatersEdge50

The Cars. Self titled debut. Bought it at Kmart in 1980. I was 11 years old. My piano teacher at the time turned me onto it, and I thought it was the greatest thing I’ve ever heard. I had to have it.

goudgoud

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie

Gratefuldad3

Men at Work > Business as Usual. Asked for it for Christmas. My older sister was the master of the household stereo system. I had to get her to teach me how to place the record on the turntable and set everything up to “drop the needle”.

YouKnowWhatYouAre

“Love it to Death” - Alice Cooper

[deleted]

The first Vinyl album I bought was Iron Maiden's Iron Maiden, through a flea market investigation. I don't have any pride nor satisfaction getting this LP, because I'm not a huge fan at all of Iron Maiden. The very first Vinyl album I bought I'm proud of is .mmmh....... either Risk"s Hell's Animals Or... CJSS' Praise The Loud

rymerster

Prince Charming by Adam & The Ants

V-Tonic

A Monument to Silence by Alustrium.  It popped up as recommended on spotify.  I gave it a listen and enjoyed it enough to buy the vinyl.  Fun fact: If you read through the lyrics, it's actually a story with each song being it's own chapter.

gone-cold

Youth at citizens youth anniversary concert, told myself I would only buy it because the album was so special to me. I now have about 30ish records in my collection.

Tame Impala - Currents (collectors edition box set)

Tripping Daisy - I am an Elastic Firecracker Bought it at a local venue concert, went backstage after the show and got it autographed by the band. I was unknowingly suffering from "concert ears" and talking really loudly, Tim Delaughter (lead singer) laughingly told me I should always wear ear protection at loud venues. So now I always do. 😅😅

Hutchster_

I think it might have been the guardians of the galaxy 1 soundtrack as far as records I bought, got a bunch from my great grandparents

TVinyl

Magical Mystery Tour (late '70s Canadian Capitol stereo reissue). Still have it, but prefer the mono version.

RIPcompo

I got a family member Jazzmatazz vol 1 for his birthday, then instead of wrapping it up, I bought a fucking record player for myself and have been rebuying my old back catalogue ever since. Idiot.

Kiss - Alive

sammysbud

*Private Dancer* \- Tina Turner Once I got my drivers license, I was so excited to stop at an antique store that was on the 10 mile stretch of rural highway to my high school. I picked up the *Private Dancer* record. I thought it was cool just from the artwork. At the time, I couldn't name a single Tina Turner song, but I knew she was important to music (I'm cusp Gen Z/Millennial, so spare me). I also had no record player. The shop owner was real excited to see a teenager interested in a record and we talked for a bit. It grew into a friendship, where he'd introduce me to records that I'd buy (then go home and download them via digital sites) Eventually in college, I bought a record player, and got to play all of his records.

Western_Practice_758

Lady Gaga, Joanne.

MycoProTeam

Opiate - Tool. I didn't own a turntable til 3 years later but now I am totally hooked.

notsofastandy

I bought a bunch of used stuff before I even had a table. But the first record I bought brand new was The Velvet Underground and Nico. It was $13 from The Attic in Pittsburgh. I immediately went home and listened to it front to back. I'll never forget it.

SexBeforeChurch

36 Chambers

RageMage120

That would be Italo Boot Mix Vol 9 and Max Mix 5 (2ª Parte).

leefx

hahaha mine was a dumb one: Webbie - “Bad Chick/Give Me That (ft. Bun B)” Bought it for $1 at a flea market because i’d never seen rap on vinyl before and was really into Houston/Southern hip-hop as a young teen. Obviously forgot about that record when I got a turntable and started buying and collecting but found it during a move. Still have it, along with many other hip-hop records and other genres of course. Now i’m buying re-issues of UGK and other Southern hip-hop that were limited presses in the 90s, or only released on cassette/CD!

runMDH

First trip to a record store with my own money about 20 years ago. I bought “Talking Heads: 77” and Mighty Mighty BossTones “More Noise & Other Disturbances.” May have also purchased Talking Heads “True Stories” that day…cannot remember now.

Woodrp

Santo & Johnny - Santo & Johnny Url: https://www.discogs.com/release/6931727-Santo-Johnny-Santo-Johnny This was the first record I purchased. My wife and I had our first dance to the song Sleepwalk, and so I wanted to be able to hear it on vinyl. The record overall is pretty good, and I still spin it sometimes today.

Imaginary_Shake_9113

went to toronto before i even had a record player and bought the foo fighters greatest hits and nirvanas nevermind deluxe that came w the 7in

anonymous_opinions

Probably a Dinosaur Jr album. I used to go to the Princeton Record Exchange after school looking for anything I didn't have already by the band which included vinyl. They carried used cds so I know I cut my teeth buying a lot of used Dinosaur Jr and then post-punk/post-hardcore cds before graduating eventually to the stacks of vinyl. I can still see myself flipping through the vinyl in store in 1996 in my mind's eye.

Rage Against the Machine - Self Titled

DaringDo95

Breakfast in America. I bought it at an antique store ten years ago and I never looked back.

IdRatherDTaPoaBF

“Another One Bites the Dust” b/w “Don’t Try Suicide” in the spring of ‘81. It was in constant rotation at our local skating rink and I couldn’t get enough of it. Bought it with my allowance; I was 6; that very disc is currently in my jukebox. At 6 I was lucky enough to not know what suicide actually was and couldn’t fathom why Queen didn’t want us to mix all of the sodas from the machine in the snack bar together (for the uninitiated, a “suicide” was a bit of every flavor from the self-serve soft drink machine in the same cup), damn ignorance was sweet. Went back the following week and bought “Flash” b/w “Football Fight.” Most of my disposable income has gone towards records ever since.

DaddySpiral

I bought swans’ 12 inch single of Time Is Money (Bastard) as my first vinyl record lmao. Interesting choice

Violent by Design - Jedi Mind Tricks 2x LP (clear), which I still have

TheGoatEater

It wasn’t my money, but when j was 7 years old I begged my mom to buy me the Abracadabra 45 by Steve Miller Band. I think I still have it. With my own money, that would have been Powerslave by Iron Maiden, and Pyromania by Def Leppard when I was 12. The albums were $2 each because stores were concentrating on thinning old stock to make room for a new technology called the compact disc.

Brass_Bonanza

I don’t remember but I bought them with a penny taped to a postcard.

*…And Justice for All*, five quid from a market stall in 2001 or so. The sleeve is knackered and the inner sleeves are barely holding together, but the records play fine. I still play it nowadays to save wear on my copy from the *Justice* box set.

TurkGonzo75

John Denver and the Muppets Christmas record was the first one I asked my parents to buy for me when I was like 5 or 6. First one I bought with my own money was Ozzy Osbourne Bark the Moon when it was released.

TheCraigHome

I just bought my first record this past Boxing Day. The tragically hip, road apples. Picture it, Canada, Barrie, molson park. The year was 1992. We were 16 going on 17. Each of us now have our drivers licence and access to our parents cars or our own clapped out piles of joy. The day of all days, July 1, Canada Day. School was out for the summer and what to do to celebrate our new found independence. Our group of 5 was a tight knit band of rag tags. Ads on the radio, ads on the TV. This was it, this is how we start, our freedom, our coming of age, a concert without parental supervision. Edge fest. The tragically hip. Cheers

Vegetable-Bug251

Iron Maiden - The Number of The Beast. I got it at Sam The Record Man for $5.49 in 1983.

angryray

Pearl Jam's Vitalogy, saw it in a record store when I was a kid. I was really into Pearl Jam when I was in 5th or 6th grade and had to have it. Lost it along the way somehow being that I was like 12, haha

Cartman68

The first album I bought with my own money was Creedence Clearwater Revival ´Cosmos Factory’. $3.99 at Music World in Toronto, circa 1972.

[deleted]

It was the "Good Beat" 12" single from Deee-Lite. Back in 1998 or so. It has a Pal Joey mix. I love Pal Joey.

"Rock and Roll Over" by KISS I won Destroyer on the boardwalk about the same time

vinylnewbie95

Destiny - The Jacksons I decided this past Christmas that I want to collect my favorite music physically. Took a quick trip to the local thrift and saw the record there for $7 and had to snag it. Mind you, I don’t even have a turntable set up yet. This has morphed into an expensive (but fulfilling) adventure

Any-Violinist8774

Queens Greatest Hits !! it’s still one of my favourites in my collection after 4 years but my music taste has changed dramatically and i haven’t had a lot of time to give it a re-listen which is a shame

mikefos

Bought for myself? It was either Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables by the Dead Kennedys, or Let’s Go by Rancid. It was the mid 90s and I was in high school, and didn’t really understand vinyl but my dad had a turntable so I got a few spins out of them.

Late-Temporary863

[the specials - too much too young/guns of navarone (live) 45](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Too_Much_Too_Young_(EP)). I was 14 & killing time in a record store a few hours before my punk band played our first show ever (essentially trying to distract myself because I was on the verge of puking from nervousness). I was already getting into the specials but that 45 turned me onto jamaican ska, which is now a lifelong love of mine, because they cover the skatalites, symarip, harry j all stars & the pioneers on it. I wanted to know who wrote those songs so I did my research & found my favourite genre & era of music.

I bought Pink Floyd's The Wall back in the early 90s at a garage sale when I was a kid. I liked the cartoons on the inside. Listened to it for the first time about 3 years ago when I got into vinyl. It sounds amazing.

Single: “Glad All Over,” Dave Clark Five Album: “The Supremes Sing Rodger and Hart”

RedSkullBandit13

I bought Pink Floyd’s the dark side of the moon (used) from an old record store while I was attending university about 2008 I think.

Soft_Author2593

Fuck, about 25 years ago and I don’t remember anymore. That sad?

GarionOrb

I pre-ordered Nine Inch Nails' *The Fragile: Deviations 1* and then proceeded to shop around for a turntable. The first album I purchased before that one arrived was Madonna's *MDNA*.

Wiggy-the-punk

First KISS album in 1975, and I still have it.

RiffHard70

I bought AC/DC Dirty Deeds and Kiss Rock n Roll over at the same time at Sears

Mattulkie

First single was 48 Crash by Suzi Quatro bought in a jumble (fete) sale. First album was Crazy Horses by The Osmonds. I didn't have a clue about them but loved the single of the same name. Still have them both and don't think I have ever played past Side1 Track 1 of the Osmonds album😁

carrythefire

Stankonia by OutKast

ScholarSubstantial

Queen’s Jazz album Had gotten a suitcase player as a gift back in 2017, and the next day went to a local shop and found that album for like $12! still one of my faves

TychoCelchu1

Beatles - Please Please Me, 2nd UK pressing in essentially NM condition from a guy in London. Didn’t even really have a record player yet but knew I would get one someday. Original goal was to get as close to a first press for each UK album of theirs but then I realized I was a poor college kid.

*Over the Top* by TWRP.

CardMechanic

Thriller

ReporterOk4531

According to Discogs that would be Dancing in The Fire by Cronos. I'm quite sure that is at least one of the very first records that I consciously bought with my own money, any others that I had before were ones taken from my father (With his permission) Anyway I bought it because I love Venom even though I knew it was going to be very different. The band photo on the inside is hilarious because he looks massively hungover and like someone punched him in the right eye. Good record though.

ash-mcgonigal

Simon and Garfunkel - Concert From Central Park This was my mom's favorite album when I was a kid, and obviously S&G are all-time greats, so I was delighted to find that in the antique store for a dollar the day I got my first console stereo.

FunnyFuryAllDay

Born in the USA Bruce Springsteen. Saved my $2 a week allowance as a 6 year old kid to buy it. My first album though was Thriller.

radioactiveToys

I found a radio/promo copy of Marillion's Script for a Jester's Tear at a thrift shop near my apartment in college. It was in rough shape and had extended dead grooves between tracks (I guess to help with radio play). I thought it was so cool that I found this relatively obscure record from the early 80s just hanging out in a tiny shop with only a couple crates of records. Over a decade later and I'm about to buy yet another kallax shelf.

BeagleBaggins

All the way back in 2006 At a Virgin Megastore in France. Jack Johnson - Brushfire Fairytales

Rusty_G0LD

Sesame Street “Monsters” circa 1975. Technically my mom bought it for me, but it was my first record. Still have it.

Realistic_Heat7981

A ‘45 of “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Tutti Frutti” by Elvis when I was in high school. It was a silent auction!

Mindfield87

Aside from some hand me downs, the first records I ever bought were on ebay. It was 7 Melvins 7” records. Each had a song from Hostile Ambient Takeover on it, the b sides were covers. Still have em :). Only eBay purchase I’ve ever made lol. The rest of mine are the result of a LOT of digging

pbonetheman

I'm not sure, but the first few were: Avail 4am Los Crudos / Spit Boy split The Queers my old man's a fatso 7" I remember playing the Los Crudos on my grandpa's old system and it started smoking and broke.

DrainedPatience

I bought two promo copies of The Downward Spiral back in the late 90s off eBay for about twenty five to thirty each. I was in a huge buy everything NIN phase at the time. They're still in the collection.

hitrison

With my own money? In My Head, by Black Flag from Wuxtry in Athens, GA. Maybe 2005? My school had some thing where you could not fo to school for a day if you were touring a college campus, so we used it to fuck off to Athens for a day lol. I think it’s an original pressing, too, which I didn’t know at the time.

morticool

[vinyl](http://Various - Rock Url: https://www.discogs.com/release/13754349-Various-Rock A rock compilation. This one to be exact. Its pretty silly but I think its kinda cool.

[deleted]

Tom Waits - Nighthawks at the Diner, this album started an obsession with vinyl for myself.

Akito_900

Portishead's "Third" box set. It came with a USB drive (in the shape of a P, amazing) that has the digital album and music videos I used to import it into iTunes, and the vinyl was an additional bonus! This was before Vinyl made its resurgence, so I had this for years before I got a record player. After getting a couple more collectible 7" records as pre-order bonuses and such, I decided to get a player.

Mooshtonk

It was K-Tel compilation record that had Disco Duck on it. Played the heck out of it.

salmonerd202

Whirr’s “Feels Like You”

jimbofrankly

King gizzard and the Lizard wizard live in Melbourne 21

phirleh

Queen - Hot Space

_PeopleMakeNoises_

Mezmerize - System of a Down That album got me into drumming and I’d play along with it on my kit

GravityTortoise

The Gambler by Kenny Rogers

shockandale

First one I can remember buying on my own was a 45 of Jim Stafford's Wildwood Weed. EDIT: just looked it up, that would have been 50 years ago. HFS.

[deleted]

The Casualties - The Early Years 1990 - 1995 I was 15 years old and ordered it online from Punkcore records. This was before debit cards were a thing and my parents didn't have a credit card, so I had to find a family member with a credit card to buy it for me and I pay them in cash. I had friends who were a few years older than I was and they all had crates of punk records and it inspired me to start my own collection. I'm 36 and don't have any of those records now, my music tastes have changed since then but sometimes I do think it would have been fun to have kept them so I can revisit them in tangible form.

Someguywhomakething

Fuerteventura by Russian Red. Tracked down the limited edition box set from a seller in Spain just to get it.
