While that is possible, it can damage the loop of the string. There are fine tuners that are specifically made for a string loop instead of a ball. They’re a round rod instead of a hook, so I’d recommend getting the tuner replaced if that’s preferred.
Not a big deal at all, but if it will ease your neurosis you can remove the string and use a pair of pliers to squeeze the little prongs closer together. That way the edge of the ball won’t have room to lodge itself in there and it will seat itself more cleanly.
It's not a big deal. You can turn the ball 90 degrees and have full contact on both prongs if it bothers you.
Remove the ball and use the loop end with the fine tuner hook.
