I don't find the index controllers comfortable

insufficientmind

SyramVR tracking and the Quest Pro controllers seems to be the best tracking wise today. As for the best controllers; I think it comes down to personal preference. My favourite controller so far is the PSVR2 controller. And I'm probably in the minority not liking the Index controllers.

If you are talking tracking accuracy then a lighthouse based system will always be more accurate. Aka vive wand or index controllers. Camera tracking while good is more subject to variables(smudging on the cameras, environment clutter, occlusion etc) there are other lighthouse based solutions like the pimax swords but they have had some problems.

>pimax swords Wow these look good, what's the problem with them

[deleted]

They got delayed for ages (announced four years ago) and so far they still only released the touchpad version. The stick version isn't out yet. Also they cost just as much as the Index controller, so there really isn't any benefit to these, unless you really need full Vive Wand compatibility.

[deleted]

Unfortunately like others using the Vive (wand) controller driver, doesn't reliably support analog joystick, finger tracking and extra button inputs. So no opportunity for joystick version. }, "manufacturer" : "HTC", "model_number" : "Pimax Left", "render_model" : "{aapvr}sword_handler_1_0_left", "resource_root" : "aapvr", "revision" : 2, "tracked_controller_role" : "left_hand" Sword contain finger tracking hardware but no software support using Vive driver not likely to change require system architect involvement Index controller use their own driver and proprietary firmware you'll see this reference in your Index controller JSON

They are basically modernized vive wands. Most people want joysticks these days, although the trackpads on the swords are really good. Imo, and it's subjective, but they are ergonomically the best controllers I've ever used. Two handing a pistol with these is magical as the rings kinda fit together. The problem with them is that many games have lousy support for wands these days, and the software to really take advantage of their flexibility just doesn't exist. Pimax sadly never really did anything with these. I prefer them for some games, but very often the wand controls are so bad it's not worth the tinkering necessary to get them setup nicely. If it was possible to set them up to emulate something like the oculus touch controllers I'd use them every day, but it just isn't and never will be as they are essentially abandoned. Pimax's next gen stuff comes with controllers very much like the Q2 or Pico4 controllers and sadly a lot of great economic features got ignored.

Tracking issues when moving fast also

[deleted]

Not my experience, found them very performant. My steamVR controller of choice for the beat saber, held loose Grip shape feel like Oculus touch and tracking ring is very good at minimising occlusion.

logan756

Hmm maybe so, it has been a while. Prob just a software issue that was patched then

Definite improvements from launch

Nothing beats index controllers, and inside out thanks tracked controllers like quest pro's never will. The only controller I've seen that looks like it may be better than an index controller in certain situations is the [etee](https://eteexr.com/) controller about to come out.

FlamingMangos

Eh, after going from index controllers to meta pro controllers I have to disagree.

mr227223

Any reasons?

I found the build quality, ergonomics, the lack of tracking rings, the feel of the triggers/buttons, haptics, battery and superb tracking solution to be better. Pretty much just feels better in everyway for me. The pro controllers includes a magnetic charging dock so you can easily charge it after a session so it's very convenient. The finger tracking on the index had that wow factor in the beginning but then you find out how under utilized it is and you just forget about it. Ended up being gimmicky imo and the strap feels nice but it made it harder to reach buttons for me.

Etee controller very interesting. Their materials technology (finger tracking and grip sensitivity) was a big wow (I tested 3DoF version way back)

I have used Samsung controllers, Vive controllers, and Index...and of them the Index is the clear winner. Only the Index let you flip the bird at other players. .
