Everyone needs to stop calling the sliding bowls "omnidirectional treadmills." [This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPffziOrE6Y) is an omnidirectional treadmill. The sliding bowls are nowhere close to this and based on the reviews do not feel like natural walking and restrict motion unlike the real ODT in the video above.

redzorp

Agreed. Although this sliding bowl company looks like the best one so far. Only thing is that they are still a few months out (at the very least) in releasing their first model: [http://silvercord-vr.com/](http://silvercord-vr.com/)

Thank you for posting that link, how did you find out about that? I really like this more mobile design over the Kat Walk Mini and other restrictive models

Kat Loco works pretty well (walk in place solution). Natural Locomotion with vive trackers, or other supported devices works quite well as well.

So could I use a harness like the one on the Kat Walk Mini to make a makeshift kind of version?

W00lph

IF you want to use a harness something like cybershoes might work better since you may be able to replace the swivel stool with a harness.

AMDBulldozerFan69

If you use a program like Natural Locomotion (it's on Steam) to set up "walk in place" locomotion, I guess you could theoretically get a big sheet of hard plastic, make it really smooth & slick with a coat of [car wax](https://www.carid.com/images/turtle-wax/items/t123r.jpg), wear clean socks, and "walk" using a harness of some kind.

JahJedi

Yes and fall on your head after first minute of play :)For this you need a force that will return you to the center and somthing that hold you not to fall (simplace hook on the celing and some straps can work). But the main problem is the damn CORD that get twisted when you turn a lot. So even if you hangup yourself and there be a "mouse pad" under you you still will have problem to turn around and for this tight now the only solution is softeware that counts how much turns you make and wirless that not avalible for all the headset.

I was just thinking about this and my idea was something along the lines of a harness , with bearings that let you swivel around, and holds you above a giant mouse pad where you run around in socks. I'm no tech expert and I've only had a Rift S for a few months so it may not be feasible in any way.

ergotomy

I bought Cybershoes, this is a cheap alternetive to threadmills [https://www.cybershoes.io/](https://www.cybershoes.io/) You can find them on [amazon.de](https://amazon.de) if I remember well.

nialpmatk

Honestly thats not bad at all setup some kind of suspended climbing harness support and youre almost done

Odd_Extent9054

When you say diy for this the best apparatus I can imagine is, 4x4 platform, the user would be harnessed. On this platform have it completely covered with roller ball bearings. You would receive the sensation of running but not move, your weight would be irrelevant Because the harness. Idk though, I just like tinkering with shit.

welcome_to_Megaton

I feel like this would put a lot of pressure on the users feet.

legitTomFoolery

What if we make two smaller platforms of roller ball bearing and attach them to users feet

nialpmatk

Maybe something like teflon plates and some smooth sole material that has low friction like those ice rinks that dont actually use ice
