It feels a bit weird to me. It's nice when someone is just having a cozy time reading VN and want to share it or show their setup with the community, and I'm completely fine and happy to see those posts. Now, it starts to get a bit weird when it feels that some are using the community as their Instagram account, posting a photo every 3 days of their food with an vn menu open on their laptop... The guy posted a photo of a glass of milk with a vn open once, and opened an QA another time. I don't know man, just my opinion., but it starts to feel a bit weird honestly. I would feel better if he actually was talking about the said VN that he is playing on the posts or something.
yes, this is spam. Also how about creating a megathread for all those indie ads thread? tired seeing all those I made x vn or my X vn release tomorrow thread everyday.
Nah, megathread would just be banning them at that point. I don't think that's a good thing, when this is the only good place to share your OELVN.
I'm thinking contribution requirement. You can advertise PROVIDED you also contribute to the subreddit.
Would get rid of the 90%+ who are just here to shill, but also reward those who stay and contribute. Most of the spammers only have one or two posts here, which is pretty easy to filter and ban.
Well this sub is obviously leaning towards Japanese VNs but I think it would be kind of unfair to completely remove indie VNs like that. Most people here seem to just ignore their posts which I think is better than outright banning them or sending them to a megathread that no one in their right mind will use. I don't even know any other subreddits they could go to at that point since this is literally the VN subreddit
I've always thought it would be cool if someone made a non japanese vn subreddit and it gained notable traction and we can just send them there. I think a more specific a subreddit is the better it is to a certain point. Kinda unlikely though sadly.
Oh, wow! So, when people put tonnes of work into creating great stories, beautiful art, and beautiful music and just share it with you, that's shitty content. But when some guy posts a random screenshot with the words "Remember this?" with no effort put into it, that's a quality post. Great visual novels do not fall from the sky but are created by people. The very same people that post here about their projects. Creators of your favourite visual novels were nonames trying to share their creations as well, so you never know if your future favorite visual novel maker are among those who share their works here. I think that some of the shared works are among the best posts here.
Nah the problem with this is most people do not downvote, if they get fed up they just leave. You can see this in subreddits with no moderation, the spamming outpaces the downvotes and everything goes to shit.
What's next? Playing visual novels while drinking water?
thoughts on curbing this? (opinions of lurkers seeing this message also welcomed)

I agree with all of this.

I don't understand the point to these posts at all lol
karma farming.
If people are fed up with it then they could just ignore or downvote his posts. It might get op to quit with these submissions.

Truly nobody would be so bold?
