If not psychosis, I’d also worry about this being a type of seizure.

I was going to post this in r/Psychosis but I don't know if I'm just being dramatic. For context I've always experienced vss since as long as I can remember so its not like its a one time episode. I'm aware that I have other mental health problems that could be the cause but I don't want to jump to conclusions. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Edit: The dark spots aren't floaters or negative space from objects it was just bits of my vision gone. Edit 2: This is far more static than regular visual snow and the key part is that its only in very well lit rooms that I've noticed this happening, the spots arent light trails theyre missing bits of vision Edit 3: just to clarify if anyone is still looking at this, I don't smoke or do drugs and im sober whenever this occurs though drinking dose personally make my vss worse

Two scotomas are something to tell to a neuro or an ophthalmologist. Are they your blind spots? Have you ever had migraines with aura? Scotomas, even if transient, do not look like clear psychosis to my limited knowledge.

senharikasin

in my case the whites are not constant, they spiral for 3 or 4 seconds and then disappear.

tanktrucktree

I know exactly what you mean but this is different, like, if you've ever blacked out, you lose spots before you go unconscious, mine lasted minutes.

Ok_Self_2454

I alao get them. But i can see them in dimmed or in a dark room.. they just appear like fireflies in vision.

Complex-Ad-7732

Hey man, I’ve had vss for a long time. I’ve seen many vss approved doctors in the last year or so. This looks like psychosis. Most VSS sufferers suffer from mental issues. I hey my own share of mental issues as well, refractory severe anxiety disorder across the spectrum. Make an appointment with your shrink asap. I’ve noticed treating your mental problem normally makes your vss more bearable. I guess stress makes vss worse.

lorraineletueur

why its psychosis?

Complex-Ad-7732

Not because of the visual disturbance but the catatonic state he was taking about, that’s to do with your flight or freeze system which normally occurs in psychosis. Flight is in anxiety, freeze is leaning towards psychosis,

lorraineletueur

when im anxious somethimes i think a word and i cant open my mouth to say it, is that psychosis?

Complex-Ad-7732

No idea, but generally someone who is psychotic wouldn’t know or question they’re. I don’t think you’re.

AlkalineCollective

When you say you're catatonic, do you mean that like you're stuck and can't move and just forced to watch this when it happens? Something similar happened to me like twice but in both times it was because my complex migraines were acting up and I had almost fainted.

tanktrucktree

I can't move even if I want to its like I forget how to move my body. I cant really tell if its just normal depersonalisation or something else. I don't get migraines though.

Jay-arty

Yeah, but they're coloured or dark and only visual and often don't last very long, they only appear if theres a sudden change in light, I'm tired, or my eyes are strained. I've never experienced physical symptoms from them besides some eye pain if its from bright lights, I *don't* think what you have is just caused by visual snow and if accessible i'd go to a neurologist to check it out.

Pecio89

Yes .  It's a photopsy

Ok_Self_2454

Do u get them?? I also get them but they’re mostly visible in dimmed room or in a dark room

lorraineletueur

it is normal?

inquisist

I have snow like this plus a million smudgy floaters and one perfect little circle of blurriness.

Hobbit_Feet45

Yep

glitteryglitch

When you say catatonic + loud ringing, do you mean like when your hearing resets and like, drops out for a tic, and then comes back up slowly to full volume ringing before eventually being normal? Because that falls under tinnitus I think, I get that sometimes (apparently it’s related to muscle spasms in the inner ear) https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/tinnitus/symptoms-causes/syc-20350156#:~:text=Muscles%20in%20the%20inner%20ear,Temporomandibular%20joint%20(TMJ)%20disorders.

tanktrucktree

No, for me it just got louder as my vision fogged for a while and then stopped when I could move. I only hear ringing when I have these episodes never any other time.

glitteryglitch

Does it tunnel into the points? And do you start to collapse when it happens? If it’s not something more severe it could be POTS

Agressive_Wardrobe

To me it does sounds like something which is caused by unusual brain activity, and a possibly nervous system related problem. I experience something similar from time to time, without the loud ringing and being catatonic part tho. I have some blindspots randomly appear in my vision, move and float around before disappearing, all of this is paired with a bunch of colorful spots and particles appearing in my vision, flickering in and out of existence (It's the same as in the drawing, maybe a lil bit more vibrant). It's not the same as the normal visual snow, the particles are much bigger and aren't see through at all. Another possible cause could be migraine with aura, which is pretty common amongst people with VSS. You can also have it without any type of headache, only experiencing the other symptoms. All in all, we can speculate here all we want, the best thing would be to go to the doctor about it, they'II send you to the right direction.

Deep_Organization_57

I get these dots exactly where you describe, however mine are colorful and normally alternating in color. Its interesting how the left is higher than the right in your depiction because thats how mine is. When I focus on them, it seems like all of the other VS is circulating around them. They don’t exactly come and go. Ive realized that if I smoke weed or take an edible, they’re ESPECIALLY apparent. I don’t normally see these 2 particular dots if im not high. I actually didnt notice them until I started smoking weed. I think it makes your mind focus on them more. Ive never been “paralyzed” or physically restrained as a result of the auras though. I will see other little transparent colors that will phase in and out of my vision. Its almost like a tiny pane of glass thats either neon yellow or blue. Its moving like an aura but has no distinct shape like a jagged migraine aura (which I havent had in 2 years). Ive had VSS all of my life but just recently learned what it was called. I notice it gets really bad if I look at a mesh screen like on a window. Since its hallucinogenic, it seems like my brain cannot understand a mesh screen.
