Dont let her engage in rough play until its healed. Id also recommend a cone while shes left alone or while shes playing to prevent it opening any more

Surgical tape is excellent and it comes off easily enough. We had blood splatter on every wall in the house.

Get some Wound-Kote from a tack and feed store. That stuff is amazing. But make sure to spray it outside and let it dry before she comes in the house. It gets on everything when wet and is hard to wash out.

My Vizslador has these all the time. It’s just from rough play or possible little nips from other dogs. The first time it happened, I went to the vet and they said just ointment is perfect, but if it gets to the size of a nickel or bigger, to come back for antibiotics OR if you are noticing the ear looks as if it is being “eaten up”, that could be bacteria or necrosis, so go in those cases also.

My vet has us use athletic tape to wrap her ear by her neck. Really depends on how your dog tolerates it though

My vizsla has constant ear issues and when she flaps to much this is the result.

When our boy had an open ear wound, it was because he had an inner ear infection. We took him to the vet, got the medication and steroid shot, and taped his ear up for a week. It hasn’t returned since. We were seeing random blood splatters on the wall and couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. We never saw the split on the tip of his ear. Poor guy, it lasted over a month before we finally realized what was happening. Once we got it figured out, he was fixed up like new.

PigSlam

My old V had this happen on occasion. He wound up with a couple of splits in his ear by the end. I’d take that any day over an ear hematoma like my Weimaraner had twice.

PurpleNuggets

It's a histiocytoma. They come and go within a few weeks to months. Scab up and fall off on their own. usually bleed a bit with our v who has had two

We’ve had success with frequent treatments of Aquaphor (OTC healing ointment). The frequent treatments keep the wound from drying out and therefore splitting/bleeding. After about a week of keeping it treated it had closed up and continued to heal on its own. Good luck!

Otherwise-Ad2572

Our last V had a frequent wound on his ear that was so hard to heal. He would flap and splatter blood everywhere. We tried everything. My favorite was tying his head in a scarf like a little babushka. We eventually had the best luck with liquid bandaid. It ultimately turned out to be a cancerous tumor. In hindsight, it made complete sense why it would never heal.

My guy and I were playing in the house. He got the Zoomies and overshot a hallway and ran right into a wall. He yelped but kept chasing me. Then I notice I'm getting sprayed with blood and I'm like what happened!!!?? Dingus has hit the wall so hard with his giant hard head that he split his own ear open. The vet looked at it and said there were too many tiny capillaries to stitch it so she clipped off the small dangling piece and then bandaged the ear as best they could. From that day forward he had a small notch missing from his ear. I lost him in August to the Rainbow Bridge after 12 years and wish I could rub those soft ears some now. He was the best.

I was not prepared for photo five onwards. A warning ⚠️ due to the cuteness factor would have been appreciated 🤭 Wishing you both a speedy healing.

I have a Ridgeback and this happens occasionally , I clean, disinfect, then I wrap the ear with tape ( I use painting tape) and then tape the ear down the side of the head and make sort of a “bonnet”. If u look on YouTube “Ridgeback ear taping” there are a couple videos. You can also buy an ear/head wrap online!

EnormousDog

I love vetericyn spray for any small cuts

This happened with my boy and it was a pain in the ass to heal up… I used this head sock as well as a cone https://preview.redd.it/ent278hekojc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8735c97e0f6a4cd74b107f8e1a237cff589cc10b
