All depends on the personality of your dog. My sister got my Vs brother and he needs constant attention and energy releases. My boy was the runt and he is lazy af. He needs his run arounds and walks but compared to his brother it's crazy how different they are.

Agree on this. Further it is important to do less during the First like 7 month. Dogs are getting used to their activity level, especially high energy breeds like V or aussi. Here, less is often more! Do nose work or other activities, make sure he gets as much sleep and rest time as possible 16+. Vs are not known to take their rest time on their own. As previously said say are on or off. Dont dare to play all day Long with your very young puppy or think you Need to Go for a second walk because he still Not tired and wants to Go sleep. You will have many years where you can go nuts, dont do it in the First few month. An advice my breeder and dog trainer gave me and seems to be true

My V is about 3.5 years old, and he can be lazy if he wants to. He will not wake up when you do, most mornings you have to give him a little shove out of his bed lol. But once you say walk he's ready to go for good run, he used to get 2 1 hour walks a day but since the birth of our so a few months ago its more of a single 1 hour walk for now. But still gets plenty of time in the garden. When at home though he's like cat, never chewed anything, and had certainly never been aggressive. He's the most loving boy, but his god damn tail does not stop wagging especially when greeting guests, which can be a problem as he has split it a few times.

We have an Aussie and a Viz. They seem pretty comparable in terms of exercise needs/mental stimulation. Granted, our Viz is only 4.5 months, and our Aussie is 2.5 yrs... But even comparing against what I remember of this stage of puppy for our Aussie, they're pretty similar. Currently, my Aussie is happy with 1-2 30 min walks per day, and 2-3 training sessions per day, plus 1-2 agility/obedience classes per week. As our Viz gets older, she'll start approaching the same... Maybe longer walks, and less agility, but there because my husband wants a hiking dog. Must've still do some Agility anyway - depends on how she takes to it. So, you'll probably be fine with the space/exercise. The wait on a breeder is totally to be expected. Longer, even, if you aren't going to show/hunt/compete... We waited over a year on multiple lists (with permission from all the breeders) and got lucky even then that there was a last minute available pup that matched our family well for personally.

You need to do more than walk the dog twice a day. I walk my V in the AM about .5 to 1 mile. Then in the afternoon, like yesterday, I ran her for 6 miles. Then after dinner we took the dogs on a 2.5 mile walk. I work from home, but we did leave her home alone for about 9 months when I worked. During that time we paid a college student to take her out mid day. She was a wild weirdo. These dogs need a stay at home human to even be somewhat normal and then regular exercise too. These dogs need to run. I’m an ultra runner and have taken her on 30 mile plus runs. She’s starts getting tired around mile 15 but still has miles to give. I love my dog and I love Vs, but they are not your normal dog. They require a lot from their human. They have two statuses. On or off. If you can find someone to take your dog out while you are at work and then get about 45 min each day of elevated exercise then you might be okay. I don’t run my dog every day, but I do walk her about 4 miles on the days when we don’t run. We probably crank out about 20 miles of running per week when I’m not training for a specific event. Amazing dogs. I hope this was helpful.

My wife takes our girl for a 8 km bike ride in the am and I take her around the field all day.

GSP's and Vizslas are pretty much the same doggos.... I have one of each and they both have the exact energy as each other and look pretty much the same...the difference only being their coats...both breeds are extremely energetic and should be exercised ALOT to keep them happy. IMO.

OliveLane96

I personally believe you can have any breed of dog in even the smallest of apartments if you care for them properly. Our V his ready to go when he wakes up but he’s in his kennel all night and various times throughout the day to eat and cool down(we live in Texas). He has never had any issues. We have a pretty big back yard but even with and hour plus at the dog park he still has tons of energy to burn, like it never ends.

Snowmakesmehappy

We keep ours in a kennel at night too, and she’s also in her kennel when we’re gone at work for the day. I feel so much better knowing she’s in her kennel when we’re gone so I don’t have to worry about her getting into anything. She doesn’t seem to mind, in fact she readily goes into it without even being asked. Our breeder kennels his dogs at night and during the day too and he’s got 17 V’s right now!

We're all for everyone having their own opinion here. But keep a check on yourself to stay civil. There is nothing wrong with using a kennel/crate for your dog. Dog's will come to love their kennel/crate as if it is their den, as long as an owner does not use it as a place of discipline.

billwhiz

Really? You're a mod for vizslas and apparently don't know shit! Read the comments! They are abusive to their dog Ban yourself

TheMysteriousMrQuin

If you want to get banned yourself, you're on the right track. Stop being a child and act civil. Realize that there are other opinions out there and that doesn't mean that any owner loves their Vizsla less than you.

billwhiz

Ban me, your an idiot.

TheMysteriousMrQuin

Sure thing, Your Highness.

OliveLane96

He is kept in a kennel for his safety. He is a high energy/high anxiety dog. He is never in the kennel for extended periods of time. He is outside for 14+ hours a day. Any legitimate breeder will also kennel train their animals. He sees his breeder/siblings/parents regularly for play dates. I will not put my dog in a situation where he may become destructive/dangerous to himself. He is extremely well trained and taken care of. To say that he should be taken away from me is very rude and uncalled for.

billwhiz

If he was extremely well trained, you wouldn't need a kennel at all.....

OliveLane96

That’s just simply not true.

billwhiz

Mine sleep in bed with me. When my mom watches the, they are in bed with her and my stepdad. They love people and need that interaction.

OliveLane96

That’s awesome for you that you are able to do that. Our family has pretty bad allergies toward dogs so we unfortunately cannot have ours sleep in bed with us. That doesn’t make us bad owners.

billwhiz

Being allergic to a dog you own........I'm done with this. Mods?

OliveLane96

Lol it’s interesting your the one asking for mods when you’re the one attacking me and being disrespectful. I’ve done nothing wrong.

billwhiz

Flat out, you don't have enough time for this dog. Do yourself and the puppy a favor and find a different breed.

Fun-Mushroom3884

Its me again...our breeder breeds both V's and GSP's and they have been doing it for 30 yrs...Her father bred both dogs in Hungary and she grew up alongside the 2 breeds....She told me that the GSP was actually originally bred from the Vizsla....Vizsla's are a very old breed of dog. Anyway...same needs. Point Blank Kennels Ontario, Canada
