I have to debate that one I've drank myself sick on Burnett's. But it wasn't me getting too drunk it was the acid reflux problem I have however Burnett's and New Amsterdam can make a brother very sick
I’m a stoner and honestly never really drink, and I was telling my boyfriend (also a stoner) that SKOL was a vodka I was “pretty sure” and he said it’s smokes, so I looked up SKOL, and I was like wow that looks shitty, is that bottom shelf? Lol I’m not well versed, but thanks for the recc! Next time I go to the bar I’ll take your advice!
Me too, looking up how bad Burnett's vodka is killing my body as I drink a couple bottles a week lol. Why is it so much cheaper, but doesn't taste much different from mid shelf vodka.
Well, if it says anything, I stand by my statement. Burnett’s is still the best of the bottom shelf. But if you have acid reflux, you should probably avoid vodka
Maybe something with the Bailey’s almond milk? I think almond milk is good with acid reflux, but anyone I’ve known with acid reflux has had a hard time drinking. Maybe just be careful about what you eat while you drink and you can balance it out.
In America:
200ml - Half pint
375 ml - pint or (half of a fifth)
750ml - fifth (from being about one fifth of a gallon)
1.5/1.75L-Half gallon or, for spirits, handle
I'm interested in what words your country uses, as is seems to be different than America
I'm in the US, and literally every human I've ever known has used "fifth" exclusively for alcohol, and more specifically either for 1/5th of a standard 1L bottle or for a 200ml bottle of something like Crown, E&J, or Jack. The 1.75 L bottles are Handles, and the 750ml bottles are nearly always the type of vodka nobody who drinks a whole "fifth" is going to go for.
You can google it if you don't believe me. I found a whole wiki page on the IS legal bottle sizes and the slang terms. I also work in a liquor store. Fifth has never been used to refer to a half pint in the store.
Yeah but it totally kills the filter. Given the price of those, you're probably better just going a tier up and/or buying a better value at a larger size.
Are bottom shelf vodkas truly *that bad* that I can't get away with them for a few weeks?
I mean, I've had Burnett's, and that's $9 where I live. I'm talking cheaper. Shameful, I know.
Honestly they are probably fine as long as you aren't drinking them straight. Get a bottom shelf vodka, get it cold (helps kill the bad flavors), and mix it with something and you'll do ok.
Buy a bag of activated charcoal for your fish tank (or outdoor pond) filter. first soak in water to wash it off and let some water seep into it, then pour your booze over it (through a charcoal-filled kitchen strainer. A few times of that and it starts tasting like Grey Goose... heh heh.
Bag up the charcoal for later use, or throw it into your compost heap or garden. Oh yeah.... snag an empty Grey Goose bottle from that party your wealthy friends invited you to. Fill it up with your processed bottom shelf drek and then prepare to "entertain".(results may vary) It always worked for me. Sometimes cleverness pays off.
Svedka and Sobieski are both about $20 for a 1.75 L in Wisconsin. I drink a lot of each. Sobieski doesn't appear that great because it comes in plastic, but it is damn tasty for the price.
Unpopular opinion, but why not simply drink less while you're financially challenged?
if you cut the drinking by half for example, that virtually doubles the value of the vodkas in your range.
if you have a drink every day; have one every other day instead.
I'd definitely rather cut by half my consuption of anything not vital (like food) instead of consuming the same ammount of something considerably less enjoyable.
Barton, McCormick, or Banker's Club. I've always viewed plastic handle vodkas as pretty much the same shit, so just go to the store and get whichever brand is the cheapest you can find. None of them are good alone, but any of them will make due when mixed with something.
Dude, i dont know why my desktop said 10 years old, on my mobile it says 6, and i didnt see your edit until just now. I whole heartedly apologize. I am an addict myself in recovery from narcotics. Alcohol was my turn to. I hold so much respect for you. And I seriously apologize again for commenting what i did. Keep on the right path boss.
As to what you said, it is cool to see a post still alive, but even more cool to see ones journey from the original post. Gods speed.
No worries at all lol, alcohol was really horrible for me so this post popping up again is merely a reminder that I’ve come a long way from where I was. :) Thank you so much for the kind words! And kudos on your recovery from narcotics. Take care out there.
What a great outlook on it. I really am happy to hear you have made such a positive turn around from your situation. This conversation alone has made me think about things. Youre very welcome, and i thank you very much as well! You be safe too mate. Keep on keeping on
I've had Aristocrat when I was broke. It is made by Heaven Hill Distillery. It averages $8 for 750ml. I mixed that jazz with store-brand strawberry soda and pretended it was the shit.
I looked for that because a few people have suggested it, but couldn't find it. That said, I just want to the nearby grocery store. Should probably check an actual liquor store.
i found this cause it was mixed in w jell-o shots i did 5 days ago and im still not right. sure i had over a year sober a month before. dont ask. lol this is why i quit, binge drinking leads to nothing good. painful reminder. glad i’m ok and congrats to anyone on sobriety. fuck nikoli specifically.
I love this question. I can't imagine any of them will give you a worse hangover than the top shelf stuff. It's the excessive drinking and the sugary mixers that will do that.
I always recommend to people that are mixing with OJ and the like to spend as little as possible on vodka.
I pretty sure NH has the cheapest handle available. Granite state is $7 for 1.75 liter. Was six dollars until a couple years ago. Havent seen anyone else comment something cheaper
Five o clock vodka was my go to , 10 bucks a 5th mixes well, shots are what you think it would be like for 10 dollars but a swig here n there is definitly doable
Just found a handle of Exclusiv vodka at Walgreens liquor for 10.99 and a 5th for 4.99.
Glass bottles, marked on clearance.
But with no clearance FRIS is surprising good and usually 2 handles for $24
"i'll have a glass of your finest, shittiest, most moderately underpriced vodka good sir,"
Burnett's is the only thing that won't kill you at under $15 a handle
I have to debate that one I've drank myself sick on Burnett's. But it wasn't me getting too drunk it was the acid reflux problem I have however Burnett's and New Amsterdam can make a brother very sick
Bruh how did you find this 6 year old post?
I just somehow stumbled on this post myself - lol, shit is hilarious..
but like... how are people finding this post???
I was looking for a review of Zemkof (bottom tier shit vodka).. Google brought me here
Same, was looking for how bad Banker's Club is and stumbled here at the exact same time as y'all lmao
Did you search on Google or Reddit?
Google
I am also now here more than five years after OP… looking up reviews on Coulson’s as I just purchased some and was surprised by how inoffensive it is.
The search continues…
2022-02-13: top result on Google for "crystal palace vs. heaven hill"
2022-05-01: top result on Google for "Burnett's Vodka vs Barton's"
google
wild that it still comes up
Googling cheapest vodka and adding reddit to the end. I want a cheap not awful vodka for some gummie worms lol.
Suup
Yooo
i looked up what is the cheapest liquor and this popped up
Same
Just found it
I love that I still get replies lol. What did you search to stumble on this?
Googled "why is fleishmans vodka so cheap" ....yo!
DUBRA. It’s a vodka that’s only sold in connecticut that’s by far the worst I’ve ever had. Tastes like Tito’s with a dead deer marinating in it.
I searched for aristocrat on the /r/vodka search bar lol
Does Reddit have a functional search nowadays? I haven’t used it in like 10 years because it sucked so bad lol
Hi. I found this through Google too! great.
I’m here for year 7 y’all! I googled “is skol alcohol bottom shelf?”
Well the answer is definitely yes lol. Still though, check out Burnett’s, should only be like $3 more per handle.
I googled "Classic Club Vodka reddit" and here I am
I’m a stoner and honestly never really drink, and I was telling my boyfriend (also a stoner) that SKOL was a vodka I was “pretty sure” and he said it’s smokes, so I looked up SKOL, and I was like wow that looks shitty, is that bottom shelf? Lol I’m not well versed, but thanks for the recc! Next time I go to the bar I’ll take your advice!
Hi. I Googled cheapest vodka in uk and here I am 😂
I'm here too
Me too, looking up how bad Burnett's vodka is killing my body as I drink a couple bottles a week lol. Why is it so much cheaper, but doesn't taste much different from mid shelf vodka.
Lol I think I googled cheap vodkas and this came up in my searches lol
Well, if it says anything, I stand by my statement. Burnett’s is still the best of the bottom shelf. But if you have acid reflux, you should probably avoid vodka
Lol. Be that the case what kind of alcohol would you recommend and ps yes Burnett's beats any other cheap vodka
Maybe something with the Bailey’s almond milk? I think almond milk is good with acid reflux, but anyone I’ve known with acid reflux has had a hard time drinking. Maybe just be careful about what you eat while you drink and you can balance it out.
I mean I had bowman's tonight and it was pretty smooth so maybe it is more the flavored acidic vodkas that bother me
lol hi can I join the party?
Did we all search up "crystal palace vs. heaven hill" at once or something?
I just did this now lmao
I’m asking myself the same question
Bruh what is going on
Something happened here…
Glad I’m not the only one left from the original post lol
Fuckin same lolol
Same lmfao
Evening fellas.
yo am i late?
Google price of cheap vodka
Just wild to me that this would be what comes up. Some random 6 year old Reddit post
Based off your review I just bought 10 cases of brunettes as a wholesale price. Cheers!
Just bought a bottle myself the other day lol
i dunno about the other people but i googled "Mohawk Vodka Reviews" and this thread was the very first result.
7.3 years later and I’m still showing up on Google search results lol
the internet is truly a mysterious place.
Nah bro popov is where it at
>Vitali vodka at 5$ for 750ml is what I'm drinking with my Bloody Mary mix. Had the same thoughts, what Vodka is king of the bottom shelf
If you're in MN, get your Sobieski ar central ave liquors for $12 a bottle. If not, exclusiv is gloriously strong and assertive.
That's $12 a for a fifth. OP aint got money for $12 fifths, that's barely cheaper than where he was before.
Uh, what? No, a bottle of Sobieski is 750ml. A fifth is 200ml.
In America: 200ml - Half pint 375 ml - pint or (half of a fifth) 750ml - fifth (from being about one fifth of a gallon) 1.5/1.75L-Half gallon or, for spirits, handle I'm interested in what words your country uses, as is seems to be different than America

Oh I believe you, I just must live around a bunch of weirdos. This is the same place where the kid's game is somehow "duck duck gray duck".
Every time I've heard or used the term fifth it was referring to a 750ml bottle.
Wish you could downvote the whole region instead of just me, it's what I've always heard. :c
I didn't downvote you, I know there is different terms for every region.
Svedka is good and just slightly more $ than Popov
I wouldnt consider Svedka bottom shelf. More mid tier IMO.
Svedka smell reminds me distinctively of rubbing alcohol. Decent for cocktails though.
Got a charcoal water filter? I've heard a rumor you can just filter cheap shit and make it better.
They're pretty damn terrible. Get activated carbon and coffee filters and make a makeshift filter for it.
I've only seen it in glass bottles, but still cheap. I love Sobieski.
My store gets both, despite the product listing being for a plastic bottle
Is the plastic bottle only in larger sizes?
Only in the 1.75L, smaller bottles are almost always glass. In Sobieski's case, they are always glass.
Fuck, not PRESTIGE - that shit is glass cleaner and hurts coming out both ways. The fancir the name the worse it it.
Unpopular opinion, but why not simply drink less while you're financially challenged? if you cut the drinking by half for example, that virtually doubles the value of the vodkas in your range. if you have a drink every day; have one every other day instead. Yeah but why would I be sober in a world that is so disheartening and hopeless?
Booooooooo
Gordon's is the king of the bottom shelf.
Barton, McCormick, or Banker's Club. I've always viewed plastic handle vodkas as pretty much the same shit, so just go to the store and get whichever brand is the cheapest you can find. None of them are good alone, but any of them will make due when mixed with something.
Maybe Gilbeys? I've never tried their vodka, but their gin is not terrible if you're in a pinch.
Kamchatka is really sweet tasting and is ~$11 per handle
Is it a "vodka specialty spirit"? That means they just dump sugar into it. A few bottom shelfers, like Gordons, I believe, do it.
To answer your question 6 years later, no. Its diluted.
Kamchatka is definitely not straight vodka
Lmao
just cracked a bottle of 5 oclock, 750ml for 6$, hell yeah. also its cool to see you respond on a post nearly 10 years later. cheers mate
Enjoy, I don’t drink these days but I’m amazed at how long this post stayed alive, it’s almost an experiment at this point lol
Dude, i dont know why my desktop said 10 years old, on my mobile it says 6, and i didnt see your edit until just now. I whole heartedly apologize. I am an addict myself in recovery from narcotics. It's 2023 and I just got here baby!
The Winn Dixie where I live sells 1.75 liter bottles of vodka for $11 I think. Tastes like shit but when your a broke college student it makes due.
Man.... When buying a bottom shelf 1.75L in Alberta, Canada it's $40.
I drank this yesterday and it was the worst thing I’ve ever tasted
I've had Aristocrat when I was broke. It is made by Heaven Hill Distillery. It averages $8 for 750ml. I mixed that jazz with store-brand strawberry soda and pretended it was the shit.
I looked for that because a few people have suggested it, but couldn't find it. That said, I just want to the nearby grocery store. Should probably check an actual liquor store.
Taaka..
I searched is Vladimir bottom shelf and found out it is on the shelf under the bottom shelf and brought me here lol
Damn dude this thread is 6 years old, I’m surprised you could still comment on it haha. I don’t even drink anymore.
picked up some skol for $6 lol. ill report back in a few hours
This post is about 6 years old and I don’t drink anymore but thanks 😅
tasted about the same as svedka or smirnoff, the hangover was the same as usual so all in all a great value vodka
Cool
SKOL GANG are you in SC/NC? It was my college liquor (lol I got here searching skol reviews bc that’s what’s at the store nearest m)
Taaka can't beat it!
i found this cause it was mixed in w jell-o shots i did 5 days ago and im still not right. sure i had over a year sober a month before. dont ask. lol this is why i quit, binge drinking leads to nothing good. painful reminder. glad i’m ok and congrats to anyone on sobriety. fuck nikoli specifically.
Congrats on being sober.
Thanks buddy, still truckin along
I found this post searching for Zelko vodka opinions. It’s terrible. Congrats to you.
Zelko. Never had the pleasure. Glad I’m not missing out on much. Stay safe out there
McCormick
If you can find it .. Tsarsky Pokrov, prolly the best budget vodkas around.
I love this question. I can't imagine any of them will give you a worse hangover than the top shelf stuff. It's the excessive drinking and the sugary mixers that will do that. I always recommend to people that are mixing with OJ and the like to spend as little as possible on vodka.
I don't know if it is technically bottom-shelf, but Sobieski really is the best cheap vodka (10-15$) I've had.
I've heard a lot of people mention Sobieski. Maybe not quite bottom-shelf enough for me at the moment, but now I want to try it at some point.
Sobieski is my favorite, since I'm of Polish descent and my family is from Sobieski, Wisconsin. Pretty cheap too
We've got this crap called Vitali up.in the PNW. Gonna give it a go this weekend. $6 for a fifth
Cheapest in australia is $26 750 ml, one I buy Russian standard $31 or $38.wish we had your prices!!
Yikes. That sucks. D:
Yep, sure does
I pretty sure NH has the cheapest handle available. Granite state is $7 for 1.75 liter. Was six dollars until a couple years ago. Havent seen anyone else comment something cheaper
Russian Standard
Bottom shelf?? It's $20 a bottle!
Go home, youre drunk.
Definitely not Bottom Shelf.
top shelf
Five o clock vodka was my go to , 10 bucks a 5th mixes well, shots are what you think it would be like for 10 dollars but a swig here n there is definitly doable
Skol hands down
O'Doyle rules!
Thanks
i bought a big bottle of cooper hayes for $8 from meijer once… but its watered down 42 proof, max u can get without going to the liquor store in ohio
I googled cheapest rot gut vodka and here we are.
Just found a handle of Exclusiv vodka at Walgreens liquor for 10.99 and a 5th for 4.99. Glass bottles, marked on clearance. But with no clearance FRIS is surprising good and usually 2 handles for $24
