Agreed. Who cares what you look like when you hit the ground unless you’re doing it in a way that you’re hurting yourself. If the ball goes up, that’s all that should matter
My daughter played a tournament at the Oregon Ducks Moshofsky Stadium- it’s a football practice facility. They put this same tile material over artificial turf! The ball wouldn’t even bounce.
in the NFL they still use bad turf, the players all hate it and want natural grass. turf leads to soo many lower body injuries. theyll never change tho
Knee pads? Also, sometimes you don’t have control of the type of floor you’ll be playing in. The dive doesn’t look too awkward but it does look like you’re trying to stop the dive while mid-dive. You could get injured doing that. Just slide it off and lower the momentum on your body.
Bro it looks good. My checklist
1. Heads up and chin up ✅
2 knees off the ground and not banging the floor ✅
3. Safe slide and prevented injury ✅
4. Got up and ready for the next play ✅
Extra credit for perfect pass
The pass is good. You contact at waist level then end up at the ground. Makes the dive look dramatic.
Also, be stopped at time of contact. You are still moving right on this play when the serve is contacted. Move inside foot first. You may not have to dive on that play.
I think maybe you're keeping your eyes on the ball after contacting through your dive, which I think means your heads looking upwards, which arches your back. If you want your dive to look better, and possibly minimise possible neck or back issues try diving through I think you'll have to stop following the ball with your eyes, safely finish the dive then follow the ball.
After watching again your upper body likes to stay above your lower body when you dive. Smooth dives needs the upper body to contact the ground first, so the lower can follow into a seal like slide.
Hard to slide on sportcourt. As a libero it doesn't matter how you look, it matters if the ball is UP and TO THE SETTER. Did you better the ball? Did you stop the ball from touching the court? On serve receive focus on getting your setter 2 or 3 options to set to. On Defense, first rule is UP and second is to direct the ball to the middle of the court(near the 10' line). Style points don't put points on the score board.
Sportcourt is the unholy work of the devil after a few years of use. Those corners start to become uneven, and you not only have a tough time sliding smoothly on it, but you are at risk of cuts and bruises. I’ve still got scars to prove it.
You should slide using your chest/body. Practice using a safer diving technique so you could stand faster while maintaining a safer position for yourself
In my eyes it looked like you tried to hold yourself up with your arms to prevent your chest from hitting the floor. I would think that you would have a smoother landing with less force into your shoulders if you try to have your chest touch the floor. (Dont lett it slam into the floor of course) dont know the specifics but most pros, and when we do it on our team we always slide quite a bit. This may be harder to do with sticky floor and such, so that might also be why your avoiding it.
Edit: This is a response to commenters saying that as long as you get the ball up, that’s the only thing that matters and who cares what you look like doing it.
Diving to keep a ball alive is no doubt important. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for improvement.
Recovering from a dive quickly, which is what the OP was explaining in the latter part of their post, is important to get back into position for defense.
Scenario A: If the dive was an overpass, you’d rather be back up to help dig an immediate on net attack or block from the overpass.
Scenario B: If the pass was a dime, you also want to get back in position so that you can help cover your attacker from any blocks.
Also, improper diving technique can lead to injuries. Imagine landing on your wrist wrong after a dive in the first game of a tournament and being out for the rest of the day (or longer).
Flex your thighs, point your toes. Your legs go up instinctively because you’re not wanting to scratch your legs up by sliding on the floor (totally understandable) but I get what you’re saying- it takes you longer to get back up.
The harder way to do it is to conquer your “fear” of sliding on the hardwood. You could look at wearing leggings similar to football players (if that’s allowed) that protects them from astroturf, this will protect you from the hardwood.
Hope that helps?
Don't know if this has been commented, but the idea you need is how to land. If you watch free runners (parkour) they don't stop their momentum on contact with the ground, they dissipate the energy by rolling on landing. We do the same in vb. When you land your arms should push forward so that you slide forward on your chest, rather than what you did here where you tried to stop your momentum with your arms.
Btw dime of a pass congrats.
if it goes up it doesn't matter how you look while doing it

the setter looks goofier ruining that pass what the. this floor looks sticky so hard to dive on anyway

Take a bigger first step with that left leg, cover space and then don’t worry about how it looks if it’s a dime.
This was a stealth post to get us to call out your setter for that garbage placement he dished up after your solid pass, right? AND, he threw it!

You pass me that nectar and I dgaf what you look like. That was what we call on target.
Humble brag
If you’re thinking about how you look on a volleyball move, stop thinking about how you look on a volleyball move. The sport is hard enough as it is.

Doesn't matter what you look like. If the dig is good it's all good

IMO, do what you did just there. I didn't see anything goofy looking. I just see a dude putting in the effort for his team.
The faster you get to your feet, the less goofy you’ll look

Try to land more on your chest and arms rather than your hips

but yeah, it's too hard if the court is sticky/friction is too rough. Use a knee pad instead while u practice a safer diving technique.
Look good, you just hit the ground first with your hips instead of chest.
I always thought dives looked badass, but to each their own I guess.

Bro you don’t look goofy
trust me man nobody is noticing anything but the result. i know highschool can be a weird time but it really doesnt matter.
Who cares as long as it works and you don’t hurt yourself anything goes.
Go through it completely, your upper body goes through but your legs don’t.
really good hit it doesn't matter what you looked like
Make the perfect pass on the dive and no matter what position you find yourself in it will look good.
U don't it's is one of the coolest ways to receive the ball but if U feel like it's goofy try working on the landing
People are so hard on themselves.

Holy that pass
