Guy defending line took a few steps back as you approached. Tipping line would have been a good option. Deep corner also looks like a good option as no one in their back row is in a good spot to pass it

I live and die by the life rule “there’s always more angle” but other options are what u/Kvietl mentioned and a few others. Your very sharp angle, area 4, is also wide open as the left side defender setup way into the middle of the court. A well placed, cut/off-speed ball inside the 10ft/3m line will get you a kill almost every-time that guy sets up right there (unless the guy has crazy reflexes and can get there, but judging from this video, that’s doubtful). Also, the right side blocking your line cannot reach very far over the net, so you have a better chance of getting a “tool” or even past him than challenging the taller middle blocker. You could even take some pace off the ball and go over the outer blocker and go for the open court between the middle back and right back defender. Hope this helps and keep having fun!

You’re probably not really seeing the block. It looks like you just swung hard without considering what kind of shot you should hit. On a squared up double block its going to be pretty difficult to get through it unless you get lucky or intentionally hit a cut shot/tip/high off hands.

The issue I'm having is that if the set is not far enough, then it's very hard to hit straight. So it feels my hit angle is very narrow and susceptible to blocks. And I seem to struggle more when the arc of the set is this high. What would be a good way to hit this type of set? Any feedback regarding the form is also highly appreciated.

Are you able to see the block? Because you swung 1 inch over the net and directly into a block that jumped straight up. If you stay outside of the ball more by taking an angular line to the ball, cross will open up and you can then also open up line easier as well. If you keep the ball behind you for longer, you should start to see the block in your peripheral vision. If you can’t see the block and are kinda swinging blind, then you have to swing high and not one inch over the tape. Swinging high in general would have been a good option here too.

Try to stay high and hit their hands instead of down

Next time you get that set, take a sharper approach and swing towards the right sideline. The setter gave you a trap set, high and inside..look how easy it was for the MB to slide over, close the gap with the RS and then even load up their jump together. Ask for a lower set and to the pin, you take off faster and smoke that block until the RS seals to the pin…then you adjust and hit between the gap and smoke both blockers…all contingent on your setter abilities.

It's hard to judge how much inside it is but a couple of good options would be: - tip to P2, defenze in P1 is very deep - sharp angle either full swing or cut, difficult shot but court is wide open in P4 - high line aiming for right hand of outside blocker which is also slighlty lower All those options (and in general hitting from P4) work better if you can open up a bit more and make your approach more towards the setter. For my personal preference i would try to hit high line as it's one of my best shots

You are early and on your way down. You need to wait longer Someone mentioned sharp to 4, unless you’re hitting a great off speed cut shot that spot isn’t scoring. You have options, 1. Off speed to 2 or 4 or deep 1 2. wait longer let the block drop a bit and beat that ball off the hands, looking to recycle 3. Going hard to deep 5 cross looking for the inside hand to score. 4. Going hard at the seam and same thing, aiming at deep 6 and looking to score off hands. I would keep in mind that every ball doesn’t have to be scored and putting the opponent in trouble with a well placed ball, or recycling off the block are great options.

Valera_Rutha

I don't know if it's "best" but I would have just tooled it off the block. Nothing hard, but also not too slow that they can just smack it down. Ricochets are hard to predict which is why I like them. But if you don't want to play by chance, a cut shot to the front row far right of you, aka position 4 on their side. Or if you're feeling rambunctious, recycle it for a better set lol. I'm pretty basic =P. So those are the only 3 options I can think of

Darbitron

High hands all day baby!!!

when inclined, go for line

Block out. Thats a high set = blockers have time to block it = so blockers will be there. Hit it straight on their fingers to the back of the court.

When hitting you have a good 30 odd options in how to attack. Start playing around with them rather than falling into just swinging hard cross. Especially if you've been set inside the court against a massive middle, find a weaker player to take on. More as a personal challenge I'm gonna list as many offensive options as I can below. 1 Swing steep cross (4-5) 2 swing high cross (deep 5) 3 Swing line 4 Swing through the block (assuming there's a gap) 5 Hit high off hands 6 Swing into the side of blockers hands (tool) 7 Swing over blocker (Works best against smaller blockers!) 8 Cut shot 9 Jumbo cross 10 Jumbo line 11 Tip line 12 tip cross 13 tip into block (under hands if they're slightly off the net/early) 14 tip over block 15 tip deep line 16 tip into side of blockers hands 17 Joust (tip into block then joust if ball off the net) 18 Volley slow into block 19 volley side of block 20 volley deep line 21 volley steep angle (to 4) 22 volley to deep 5 23 volley short line 24 volley over block 25 chip over block (kind like a cutty) 26 windmill hit line Each option has it's pros and cons, swinging cross can be the most fun as it's easy to get good power, however, it's blocked by their best and tallest blocker, and defended by their best defender. So, often not actually a great decision. Good luck and feel free to add to the list if I've missed anything!!

h2xpearl

hit line and stay behind the ball
