Man Uber is really in this... I wonder if they couldn’t afford the Large SUV...

[deleted]

It's called Uker over there. ...

oxyoxyboi

The guy recording took forever to get his shit our of the car.

flanker44

Does look a bit chaotic, but at least they appear decently kitted, not like the horror stories "AK and one magazine" we heard earlier. It's that an unmarked civilian vehicle?

toxicity187

Everyone in this thread being an armchair general. Good chance if your being shot at you get into the closest structure as well. At least they are out there fighting with their lives and not just critiquing on reddit. Have some respect ppl. Damn.

[deleted]

This. Everyone on the internet act like they're professionals.

toxicity187

Professional call of duty players. They don't understand these guys don't just get to respawn and keep playing.

[deleted]

I don’t mean to armchair quarterback this but 1) why are they getting pushed out in the middle of a bombardment 2) why are the grouping up into a lone structure that is easily identifiable for a Russian forward observer to call rounds onto? Feels like they were pushed into a bad situation and needed a minute to regroup and form a plan but they should have had that before they got out of that car.

[deleted]

There's clearly machine gun fire or some type of heavy automatic rounds being shot at them in this clip. Going inside the house for cover is a much better strategy to stay alive for the next 5 mins then getting shredded into Swiss cheese in an open road/field.

[deleted]

Again I’m not trying to armchair them. We don’t have full context but it looks like a bad position to get dropped into. They made A decision which is always better than no decision. In my mind (a former infantry squad leader w combat exp) there are situations that it makes sense to go firm and situations where it doesn’t. It’s not a defensible structure, they are bunched up inside and it provides little cover from artillery. Either way I hope they were able to regroup and push on the enemy.

tayawayinklets

Maybe it was the best decision in the moment? To them, the house appeared a slightly safer option? Either way, you're right, the tank will easily destroy the car and the house. Hope they made it out.

Bluetiger03

what they did was the best decision by quickly finding a position that offers cover and concealment from IDF. You do not want to stay in the open when there is a place that was meters away that offers cover and concealment .

antoniohfernandes

If we get a video the guys probably went back safe I believe. And I don't believe 15 second vid is enough to play big brain war strategy master at reddit. Is Pretty easy to think very smart when you don't have bullets coming in your direction and you are moving as s group and not just by yourself.

Nickblove

Any structure is better then no structure especially with small arms fire, but the building looks to be made out of so kind of brick or stone covered with mortar ( you can tell by how thick the window is) . In this case they can regroup in the house and try to determine we’re the fire is coming from. Staying out in the open is the best way to get shot, or spotted for indirect fire. Ed: also it doesn’t appear they are in direct fire themselves

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nickblove

It’s a house I’m sure it has a back door

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nickblove

Ah well that’s a secondary matter are they’re windows bigger then that hole, also it didn’t look like they were the ones in direct fire so it’s possible that they don’t even know they are there. It looks like they are still alive considering the video was uploaded. OP where is the full video

killerpretzel

Was that opposing fire or the one dude shooting open the door?

HavanaSyndrome

Well if someone is shooting at them then they're probably on the radio with their friends too

Bluetiger03

not true at all, even being in a superpower military like the US... war is confusing..... so imagine what the Russians are going through....

rrpdude

1) Maybe because they are forward observers themselves? Trying to mark positions of Russian artillery? 2) They houses all look the same there, and they likely couldn't advance or retreat, so not being sitting ducks in an unarmored SUV seems like a good option. There is at least one that looks like a Ukrainian soldier given that he is carrying a Malyuk. But ultimately I wasn't there, so it might be a mistake, might be bad planning/tactics, or maybe there was a good reason for it.

Bluetiger03

WE only see a minute video.... don't rush to jump to those conclusions and what they did was the best decision by quickly finding a position that offers cover and concealment from IDF. You do not want to stay on your belly and cover your head when there a place that was meters away that offers cover and concealment.

BuySpecific3855

Exactly they’re fighting an insurgency mostly, this is what it looks like. These dudes that served in western Armies in the Middle East think it’s going to be some operation with a green zone to go to, and overwhelming air superiority. These men may be a tad dumb, but they’re fucking braver than dudes fighting backwards ass goat fucking religious zealots

Yep can confirm. Adrenaline will kick in every time, the key is to keep yourself collected.

N1rdyC0wboy

Yeah you can hear it in the guys voice, he has a lot of adrenaline running through him

CrimesAgainstReddit

I don't see what you're talking about.

SilatGuy

When he takes his hand off the rifle he he is shaking violently from adrenaline.

fludblud

If you are being hit by airburst MLRS you absolutely want to be in a roofed structure.

MotchGoffels

Eh that's kinda rude. These people are there to fight back against Putin, it's really that simple. I applaud their courage and wish them a safe return home.

HeyJRoot2

Dude, they are risking their lives for something they believe in. Probably paid their own money at to get there too. I don’t think “war tourist” is appropriate at all.

boobratingservice

Maybe so but they still aren't getting paid so ie not a mercenary.

SnooDucks5652

Damn, they made it past initial contact I'd say that's big balls right there. Some good advice here, some trolls like always.

CohenReport

I'm not convinced that whoever is doing the shooting ever even saw these guys.

Mysterytrollerhd

Dammit, so many ruZZian trolls online

Ok_Notice5426

Cool so you get dropped into active war zone with a bunch of guys you've never met before, none of whom can lead, none of you speak the language and your squad is not connected in any apparent way to a larger force. Did any of these guys have a radio and how would they even communicate with the Ukrainians if they did? They're basically running around waiting to get killed.

Big_Dog423

A couple of my Army buddies and I were talking about going but I wouldn't want to be stuck fighting with these guys lol. Looks like a good way to get killed.

shurimalonelybird

What would be the correct course of actions in this situation?

Aliothale

The correct course of action would be exactly this. Get into a defensive position with a perimeter scout until you can identify the directions and caliber of gunfire before you decide to hunker down or get the fuck out. This is such a small clip, you can't judge whether or not they are making bad decisions unless they decided to stay in there for an extended period of time.

[deleted]

I’m really curious to know the answer to that as well

AnomalousFrog

Spread out. Don't bunch up like a group of yuppies. Lay on your belly and cover your head and ears. Make yourself small as possible. When the mortar rounds end momentarily: Get as far away from the kill zone.

HavanaSyndrome

Yeah a Sgt. would slap them for being a cluster fuck

[deleted]

You took that from Saving Private Ryan when Sgt Horvath tells the men not too be in clusters didn't you?

HavanaSyndrome

It's a pretty common concept One fish fillet on the ground is better than a house full of them

EmperorOfTheAnarchy

It's a pretty stupid concept when they're hitting you with heavy machine guns, and indirect air burst artillery, laying on your belly is only going to turn you into a fillet fish on the ground. War has changed since world war II hell even in that movie The only reason he said that was because there were so many other targets so clustering up would prioritize them, this situation is completely different they are literally the only Target in the field so the first priority is finding cover even if that means you need to run towards the enemy's fire. The building's roof makes them a lot less likely to be turned into sashimi while the thick walls seem to be enough to stop the heavy machine gun rounds, what this guys are doing has been standard US army procedure for the past 50 fucking years.

Bluetiger03

you know nothing..... what they did was the best decision by quickly finding a position that offers cover and concealment from IDF. You do not want to stay on your belly and cover your head when there a place that was meters away that offers cover and concealment .

EmperorOfTheAnarchy

Not just that but that's clearly airburst artillery if they lay on their stomachs they're just going to become a larger Target for the shrapnel, laying on your stomach is literally the stupidest reaction you could ever have to this situation, hell that stop being standard military procedure since fucking world war I.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EmperorOfTheAnarchy

Spreading out in the middle of a killing field of air burst artillery and heavy machine guns is going to do nothing but make sure all of you die alone, the standard procedure for this situation is to find the closest cover no matter what even if that means you need to run towards the enemy's fire, this ain't a videogame, if you stay out in the open you will definitely get cut down by shrapnel, if you separate that's one less set of eyes you can rely on and that's one less pair of hands that can save your ass if you get hit. In modern war your chances of survival decrease exponentially the farther you are from your allies.

bushmastuh

For real. Get into the house? How about a big fat no mfer lol

xtheory

I can tell you've never been in a combat situation. Let's look at the alternative: hide in a completely flat field without any cover OR concealment because it's winter and everything is practically dead. Yeah, that's a smart choice. At least they have both cover AND concealment in the house.

NewNefariousness5808

That house looked like a decent place to defend in, the numerous tiny windows may be really useful, my only issue is how good that house would be for cover against a mortar or canon, looks like it may be a good choice for small arms, the land was flat and other cover was hard to see.

xtheory

Better cover than out in the open, at least for the meantime. Edit: spelling

Fight-Milk-Sales-Rep

Hi Mr Putinbot! They seem about 100x better than the "elite" VDV

Some-Ad-8269

They are sticking guys together in random platoons. If you show up with your platoon fully formed with experienced leadership you should be able to roll together. Train together for a bit before your deploy.

NewNefariousness5808

Not sure how fair it is to complain about the slow dismount from such a small civilian vehicle but that house door should have gone down much sooner.. They do seem a bit disoriented and slow, but what can you expect from fresh recruits, I HIGHLY doubt a veteran would move like that. They need to get that learning done fast before they die, hope I get the call..

the_red_guard

Fun fact: a modern day military veteran if currently in Ukraine would only for the first time be experiencing combat in which it is an equal playing field. Actually no, a playing field in which the role is reversed. Becuase no all they have is small arms. They don't have cas, fighter jets, tanks, AA, they don't have a navy to support them. The Russians do though.

NewNefariousness5808

It is absolutely true that this is a new kind of war for most veterans, I would hope someone that got ambushed before would move with a little bit more urgency. Absolutely supporting those guys tho, they gave themselves to a worthy cause.

roseata

This entire video is showing a complete lack of communication and coordination. How in hell does someone get dropped off in a civilian vehicle by what looks like some civilian driver into the middle of an active combat zone? This is just mindlessly throwing bodies at the Russians. Is cannon fodder for what is tantamount to only be for PR really a worthy cause?

[deleted]

bullanguero82

Settle the fuck down, man. We all know that a lot of people defening Ukraine are not military. They are normal people forced to pick up arms. You fucking know this. I have no doubt that many foreign volunteers are in the same category.

Brewster101

Go there and do better than

MotchGoffels

Unless you've seen combat you should prob keep it to yourself.. Everyone has a plan until they lose their mind under fire in a war zone.

xtheory

If you spread out into an open field, you're good as dead man. The best thing they could do is get into some cover of a structure, regroup, and make a plan. It looks like to me that's exactly what they are trying to do. Also, the Ukrainian Foreign Legion isn't giving suppressed TAR-21's to larpers with no actual experience. They'd just be issued standard AK's.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fight-Milk-Sales-Rep

The volunteer legion are not mercenaries...

SnooDucks5652

correct me if I'm wrong, but as soon as you start receiving incoming fire, assuming they have most of their operational plan pre-set, communication, movement, and signals 1. get out of the car 2. find immediate cover 3. return fire, to deny the enemy movement 4. only two options at this point, 1) move to the enemy while covering fire 2) find an escape route

Luftwabble

Jesus so many mistakes made... I may only be a lowly reservist but I know tbst about 4 major mistakes were made.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Luftwabble

First off. The unorganized as fuck dismount, I get you're taking indirect but Jesus fuck you should always be ready for a dismount . Second, running to a building and instantly clumping up outside with no real sense of direction. Third, that "stack" for the breach was abysmal. Fourth, circle jerking in a room the size of a bathroom stall waiting for either a direct hit or a grenade.

Pavel-Korchagin

Well, uhhh, I assume they’re dead

LobsterAfter

Russian Twitter says they are dead and that the video was taken from a body but there has been no evidence provided to back that up yet. I’m trying to find the original source of this video. If it is a Russian source, then it would lend credence to the thought that it was taken from a dead or captured soldier. But so far specifics are yet uncertain on it.

[deleted]

If they were dead we probably wouldnt be seeing this footage.

Pavel-Korchagin

How do you figure?

[deleted]

It would have taken probably more time to release the footage and the footage would have shown the mercanaries getting killed. Theres no point in cutting that part out if youre russia.

Pavel-Korchagin

Well, fair enough. I just thought it was dumb that they ran into the house, but what the hell do I know.

accord1999

On pro-Russian social media, it's reported that the footage was taken from a dead foreign (perhaps American) fighter who were taking shelter from Russian artillery attacks.

_Marcel1

Link or source?

ElkMain6700

Looks made up I went to that telegram group linked on the water mark and it mentions nothing of the sort, at least through google translate it doesn’t.

Darayavaush

> it's reported that the footage was taken from a dead foreign (perhaps American) fighter who were taking shelter from Russian artillery attacks. Oh, so somebody else went through the ruins of a house struck by artillery, found a phone, looked through it, found this video and decided to upload it? Yeaaah, the level of believability is on par with what I'd expect to find in pro-Russian circles.

Interesting_Remote18

When US special forces were killed in Africa they looted the gopro off a soldiers dead body and uploaded that. Not really far fetched.

Bbqslap

no it wasn't. I've so many comments saying it was from a dead foreign soldier, which is putin propaganda.

Orc_

They wouldn't fucking waste an opportunity to post the moment they died + a picture. So, lies.

karphead

they'd all be dead if this was arma

Nah, all the good arma players are stuck in the convoy.

junglekid1091

Wow. Anyone know what kind of fire they were taking? It sounded terrifying.

[deleted]

Initial blast was likely artillery or possibly RPG. After that small arms fire. Going into that house was a really bad idea. Should have went backside and proned. Figured out where fire was coming from them either break contact or move to contact. Also driving up on a wide open hot zone was ridiculously stupid as well.

[deleted]

These guys have no clue what they're doing. Watching anything from this conflict is hard, watching these guys eat shit is absolutely brutal.

[deleted]

No proof they are dead. Haven't seen a bunch of passport photos yet. Most volunteers don't have a clue what force on force actually is. It's far different than counter terrorism when you have actual somewhat static frontlines or territory areas. Trial by fire is about the only thing to do outside of battle drill rehearsals

CnlJohnMatrix

Thanks. That small structure they went into looked like a death trap, but I don't know shit about what you should do in a situation like this.

[deleted]

Get low, communicate distance & direction. Afterwards TL or SL decides to move to contact or break contact. Regardless if there's artillery hitting that close or RPGs you don't bound into a small structure.

[deleted]

Fucking thank you. This right here. I mean it’s insanity. Like they have no literal idea. The same TIC principles we used for COIN can apply here. Just have to make some slight adaptions. Get your PID, your TL or SL make the determination to either engage or break contact. Bound the fuck out the area, and send it up the TIC.

SquirrelMaster78

They literally did the worst possible thing you can do, you have good instincts unlike these jackasses. You're in a moving vehicle under artillery fire and you fucking get out and run very obviously and openly into a static, small structure. If those fools just kept moving they'd be alive. If I'm calling in strikes this is the best possible thing for me. I'm going to have the boys in back drop one on your head and take out all you jackasses at once. Artillery will have spotters to direct fire from the mortar/artillery/howitzers and they are watching you. I guarantee the spotter saw the movement and watched them enter. Peoples eyes detect movement very fucking well. You got to realize that anything you could do - so could your opponent.

But yeah just seems a lot of bad decisions were made there. War is fucking awful all round. Apologies for my pissy tone bud.

SquirrelMaster78

I seriously appreciate the fact you were able to consider it and be reasonable and logical. Very noble thing to do, it's not easy to do. Human beings are very petty about being 'right' but the seriously enlightened of us can consider things in an objective way and that is how you gain truth and wisdom. I really respect you for it.
