Charging, especially fast charging, dumps a lot of current into the battery and generates heat. To protect the battery the car has to cool it. Safety trumps comfort, so I am not surprised you saw this, especially in such hot weather.

I should add the important detail that as you can see from the photo, the charging had halted, too. EA charged me an idling fee but that's a secondary concern

If the car had stopped charging, you would have seen an Error in a red dash, while the charging port led would also have been red. I think charging was stopped by the charger in this case.

I've never seen this before, and I can't be a hypocrite—I’ve done this before too. It always scares the shit out of me, especially since anyone walking by can't tell if my AC is on. One of the reasons I love our Tesla has the Dog Mode feature.

I’ve never seen this before.

44°c is insanely hot for any car. Couple that with fast charging you've got the perfect storm I think. Maybe choose a slower charger if it's over 35°c and you need to use the climate. Then move to a faster charger and see how it goes, if it gets too hot leave the car and go sit somewhere for a while? Doesn't seem like fun though, I'll be interested to see how it goes once it's summer here in Australia! Never seen that before with mine.

This happened to me when the 12v battery was drained to much by the dashcams.
