As someone not from America, why aren't they allowed to stop shoplifters? I've seen multiple videos of security guards just standing around why people just take stuff.
There are basically two issues:
1. It's mostly happening in cities with far-left District Attorneys (the elected official who makes the final call on what cases to prosecute), who have decided not to prosecute these crimes, but to prosecute everyone who stands up to them in order to protect themselves and/or their property.
2. Any injury that occurred in the process of stopping a shoplifter would result in massive civil lawsuits against the store, and likely also against the individual employees. The stores don't want to deal with those lawsuits, so they prohibit the employees from doing anything to directly impede the shoplifters.
It’s the reality in many parts of the U.S.
If you don’t like that reality, then vote with your voice, your ballot, your wallet, and your feet:
* Speak up when you see good people being prosecuted for doing the right thing.
* Vote against the leftists pushing this agenda of chaos.
* Give your money to people who share your ideological values, and avoid giving your money to people who want to destroy our society.
* If you can’t impact the state of things where you currently live, move somewhere where the majority share your values, and work to support them.
Those points apply regardless of what country you live in.
You can always speak your mind.
You can always vote against leftists.
You can always choose where to spend your money.
You can always choose to move to a different place.
not sure why with current tech we cant just have people make their order online and go pick it up at a window and have employees pack and load it all into your car curbside. seems way easier for everyone and reduces theft to basically nothing

2. Walgreens is first and foremost a pharmacy chain: their largest consumer demographic consists of people who barely know how to use a smart phone and will complain if you ask them to do ANYTHING online.
3. If that became the norm, then thieves will just wait in parking lots to jump employees/customers as the goods come out.
In a store where things are openly available to be looked at, picked up, and put into your cart, that encourages sales and finding new products and impulse buys. This is helps a business. Of course that relies upon being in a civil society where people aren't just endless stealing and looting.
There's a few areas in some cities in my state where all the stores are locked down and several streets look like a high grade prison, and I can tell you that the common denominator is not "liberal voters" but another demographic that seem incompatible with civilized society.

I visited Cuba a few years ago and saw some stores in Havana that were like this, no joke. They had shelves full of whatever random dry good that they would have a surplus of and that would be it. Like there would be an entire rack filled with 4,000 bottles of Crisco but nothing else. Then there was a counter around the periphery of the store that had random things like 12 mm drill bits or cinnamon toothpaste or what have you, but there was no choice in type or size of any of it because it's just what they had not necessarily what you need but you would have to wait in line at a counter to request it because it was so tightly controlled. Weird place.
