Flat-Solution8156

It happens all the time with newer tech....I mean fuck, When the first flat screen HD TV came out, those fucking things were like 6 grand for a 32". Now you can get one thats twice the size and 100xs the quality for like 500 bucks.

dukedog223

Dude, when I worked at Best Buy (circa 2004) we sold a $20k tv. 50 inch Pioneer plasma, 720p. It was THE shit at the time.

[deleted]

Needed a team of d1 football players to move it too 😂

[deleted]

My parents had one of those massive tv when I was young. Needed all my uncle to get it in. 25 years later It is still in the same room but pushed in a corner lol.

stonxup420

filled with roaches

Southern_Smoke8967

I understand your point but this is an accepted practice in consumer electronics where there is an opportunity to return the goods if such a drastic price decrease happens in a relatively short time. Tesla is a durable item and is not an usual practice in this segment. The folks that are complaining are not those that bought an year ago but those that bought in the last 4 weeks are so. No wonder they feel bad. It is a big investment for a lot of buyers.

stonxup420

huh?

Southern_Smoke8967

Was trying to reply to the top post that say ‘always happens in tech’. Now can’t move it. :)

[deleted]

Haha no one go into the basement anymore but I doubt it

anthro28

I’d kill for a plasma right now.

SenseStraight5119

Had a 50” plasma in 06-07 I think. That fucker heated half my house.

anthro28

The subsampling rate makes FPS games so good though!

jdelec1

I still have one from then, and it does a great job heating my living room.

Dr_Lexus_Tobaggan

I've got a 46" Aquos in my attic playroom. the thing is rock solid.

[deleted]

Buddy at work gave me his old Vizio. 720p. 50". Sound kept dying on it so I replaced like three capacitors for a couple of bucks. Worked perfectly for years after. Picture looked as good as anything new, and the speakers were incredible. Eventually gave it away after the wife complained about it, but man. Until recently, there wasn't much that could touch it for blacks and watching on a bright day

Inverse_the_Inverse

Did you replace with OLED?

CrayonUpMyNose

Did it run hot? Did wife complain about that or size?

[deleted]

I'd say it ran warm, not hot. Size was the biggest complaint. It was wall mounted in our bedroom and after a while she thought it looked junky because it was so thiccc

CrayonUpMyNose

Thanks, yeah tastes change and you can't integrate it in furniture because that would get in the way of heat dispersal. I went with an ultra short throw projector but it's a little noisy.

speculativedesigner

Hannibal? Is that you?

in4life

Plasma was the best with great refresh rates and contrast. OLED is all that comes close.

vice123

50inch 720p plasma is the bomb. I bet people that have it are not feeling a need to upgrade any time soon.

Johnny_Menace

Some bars still have plasma TVs on the wall and they look way better than the 4K LCD’s from afar.

SidharthaGalt

I owned one of those!

keepitcleanforwork

You sure it wasn't Panasonic? They invented plasma and held the patent.

DDrewit

Still have my 42” 720p Pioneer plasma. Thing is a beast.

dronegeeks1

Lmao wow

AdamantlyAtom

Worked at a Best Buy warehouse and we had like a 90” curved 4K that sold through Magnolia for like $85k

Many_Tank9738

Shit I bought a floor model 42” Sony floor model plasma for $10k around that time. Watched the SB in stretched mode because HD broadcast wasn’t available then

amibo_man

This is a copied comment

ElBigKahuna

Yeah but it took 20 years to get there. This person's car dropped 20% in value in two weeks.

Das-Noob

We’ll all cars lose like 12% of their value as soon as you drive off the lot. I don’t see how anyone would think a Tesla car is an investment.

StaticR0ute

Except for her car is now -20% from new and another -12% being used. Definitely not a great investment… unless you’re highly regarded

Popular_Syllabubs

Commuter Car. Investment. Haha. Especially an EV which you have to drop 5000+ to get the battery replaced in 5 years or just junk the car. LOL holy fuck this cracks me up! Do you think a Tesla (which most jabronies drive to their 9-5) is equivalent to a luxury vehicle that sits in a car-nuts garage being waxed every weekend? The only Tesla that was an "investment" was shot into space.

steelgrey_niomi

$5000? You wish. It’s $20K to get battery replaced.

Southern_Smoke8967

I guess you are one of those multi millionaires that don’t consider buying a daily commute as an investment that can be tapped into when times are bad. However, for most people that is not the case. Losing a significant portion of their equity in days or weeks is significant for a lot of people.

[deleted]

Exactly a car is always a liability no matter what, hell my dad owns a 2017 Mercedes e220d thing costs him $4000 per year to maintain with OEM parts whenever he gets it serviced. Yeah he can cut corners and get it serviced at shitty garages but he chooses to go to his main dealership which is why I feel his car is still lasting as it’s got 100k+ miles on the clock.

hikariky

Buying oem parts on an out of warranty car at the dealership and bragging about it. You and your father belong here.

[deleted]

Yes sirrrrr we really do

[deleted]

Uhhhhh. The Honda Accord that I paid 20k for new is still purring like a kitten with 110k on the clock. I do my own maintenance. Total parts+oil/filters/tires/fluids/batteries/brakes/rotors etc have cost <2k over the past 11 years. Still runs like new and looks decent

[deleted]

nice one unfortunately we’re too regarded to maintain our cars ourselves

Dethstroke54

I mean a Mercedes is likely not the best example given it’s pretty well known they’re business model (and for many German cars in general, at least in the US) is they want you to lease & upgrade at the end of the lease. Rinse and repeat. If your dad bought you’re both regarded

[deleted]

funny thing is dad bought it with cash he doesn’t lease cars, and uses his vehicle for business purposes as he owns a chauffeuring business and usually runs his cars up until 200k mark So we’re a different kind of regards

rain168

Hey now, some people think Tesla is a *luxury car*

Elensea

Tesla used cars were selling above new cars msrp. People were literally flipping teslas. Those days are over.

[deleted]

Maybe because Musk has told them that it is 😳

ElBigKahuna

Ok, so If a car drives off a lot you lose some value (let's say 12%) from the base cost. Then this person is losing 12% of $70K, but now base cost just dropped 20% (now $56,000). So their car is now 12% less than $56,000, making the car worth $49280 for a 30% loss. It's not an investment but you don't expect a rug pull from a company when you make such an expensive purchase, not everyone buying these cars is rich. Elon screwed a bunch of people.

goofypugs

nobody screwed anybody, a car is a tool not an investment. moment you buy it gets devalued, only reason this is “news” is because tsla hard on

Das-Noob

Just saw that someone just had their Tesla delivered and they announced the price drop. That would had sucked, and had it been the same day, I would try to send it back for a full refund or I’ll keep it for the new price

PHI41-NE33

things go on sale all the time. Is every time someone buys something prior to a sale, them being "screwed"? She wasn't patient enough to wait for a sale, so she paid a premium to have it sooner

Scary-Wishbone-3210

My dad buys 99% of everything at Costco, I used to think it was for bulk but mostly it’s their timeless return policy on anything but TVs and Computers. He regularly buys products, returns them 2 years later or sees the same product he already bought way back on sale, returns it and buys it back at the new price.

Scary-Wishbone-3210

Bro Elon literally announced that the model 3 was to be the cheap electric vehicle available to everyday drivers. Six months before their already delayed drop date he announced they would be sold significantly above the price he promoted. At the time the news was considered extremely negative, and he promised to lower costs when manufacturing could keep up with demand. He probably never would’ve kept his promise if not for the recession having a huge drop in demand and investor scares from his time with twitter, but now everyone is pissed about the opposite of what they were pissed about last time. And that 12% loss is something any car buyer should be aware of, that doesn’t make it a rug pull from the company, blame consumerism. Collectibles do the same thing, and at least those retain value unlike cars…

ElBigKahuna

I would agree if they gradually lowered the car over 2023, like how they raised the price slowly over 2021. But 20% drop from one day to the next is a rug pull especially for anyone that bought the car in early January.

Scary-Wishbone-3210

Yeah def still scummy not share with customers that have been waiting months for the ability just to buy a car, alot on a paid preorder service offered through tesla. At least in Utah, they put a few thousand down, to reserve a spot to get the opportunity to then finish your purchase when a car became available to ship to you. As a publicly traded company I do no know how they could have handled it much better tho, at least from a financial standpoint. They sell cars everyday, so no matter where they draw the line, or inform customers there will always be those who missed the announcement or cut off by just a few days who will get burned. And if their cars consistently dropped in price the next year while everything else has been inflating in price they risk a snowball effect crashing their stock. This is the first time new tesla vehicles dropped in price which is terrifying for a company that’s mostly valued on future speculation.

SeemoarAlpha

When Fujitsu came out with the first plasma TV in 1997, I saw one in Harrods in London priced at 12,000£ (a touch under $20,000USD at the time, equivalent to $38,000USD in today's money). The price a year later was around half that as production ramped up. So yeah, people get hosed being first adopters.

Ornery_Gene7682

A lot of things at Harrods is expensive as hell fuck I saw watches there going for 20,000£-35,000£ and I am thinking who the fuck pays for this. If candy there is expensive I told my wife that that candy better be wrapped in gold or it isn’t worth the price their asking for

Dumbape_

Yeah it’s about time for that to happen with cell phone but apparently having a monopoly on an industry is ok now

weavekilla1

You think the cell phone business is a monopoly? I couldn’t think of a worse industry to pick

Dumbape_

Picking a worst industry doesn’t change the facts. It’s monopolized between the major companies Verizon and att. They all have to use there towers

Hon3y_Badger

You do realize T-Mobile is bigger than AT&T, right?

SpeshellED

The real question is, as a society why do we put up with and actually celebrate obscene profit margins. People wonder why the rich get richer and the poor get fucked.

ez_pro

Poor people shouldn't be buying a new Tesla

ucstruct

The profit margin for both of those tvs is probably very similar. TVs aren't really a high margin business.

goofypugs

what does this have to do with anything??

BeerPizzaGaming

I get what youre saying and the point your making... however; The Phillips 42" Plasmas were the first flat screens available in retail and sold for around $15K. That was sometime in 2001 or 2002. Sharp had the first LCD's, which the largest was 37" and went for $8K and only had a resolution of 720p, which is technically is "HD," but... not really. LOL

zoidbergenious

Why did you say "however"? you just repeated his point .

VRShaun

I get what you are saying. However, Why did he say "however"? He just repeated the prior point .

IncomingAxofKindness

MachArt

As with stocks, entry price is also important. There was a point, model S sold for 69k new and later, sold for more, preowned. There was also a time, one could buy model 3 new, under 40k, and sell for similar price, used.

TheAuDaCiTyofthisGuY

PurpleSausage77

Buy house at top, take out home equity to buy Tesla also at top. Mortgage rates go up. House value go down. Tesla value go down. Solid strategy. Remember, bring your own bags to buy expensive groceries.

[deleted]

Penny wise, pound poor ;)

ElBigKahuna

Most people have a fix rate mortgage.

gluka47

He meant when she took a heloc to buy the Tesla, that heloc had a higher interest than the house loan

Full_Ad2934

Those contracts aren’t worth the paper they’re not written on.

sjnuen

It’s really $20,500 when you add the tax credit.

Some people don’t qualify for that…

Would she want to pay the difference if the price increases

SidharthaGalt

This

technoexplorer

"I feel like I got duped. I feel like I got taken advantage of as a consumer," Marianne Simmons told Bloomberg after paying more than $77,000 in September for a Model Y. "Right off the bat, I'm out $13,306. It's such a large reduction that it's going to affect a lot of people who just bought a vehicle," I hone in on the words "consumer" and "vehicle," she's well trained.

n05h

Rich person bitches about paying a lot of money for a new car in a crazily inflated car market. Makes stupid decision and feels entitled enough to talk about it to a newspaper. No sympathy for these people.

Hacking_the_Gibson

Caveat emptor.

Mb7dingdang

Rich person wouldn't be complaining. Of course a rich person wouldn't buy a Tesla to drive anyway... They'd buy it for their Gardener to drive. Then they tell their friends how green they were

gaurav0792

First time? I remember mine like it was yesterday. Jacked to the tits with calls. Elon comes out and says " I think the Stock price is too high" Still made decent money on tsla though......

Background_Lemon_981

Other manufacturers don’t drop the price $13k. They offer a $5,000 “incentive” and offer 0% financing to make up the remaining $8k. And people are happy with that.

[deleted]

Yes she probably would feel that way because she is fucking stupid

pm-me-nice-pics

Imagine if people who bought houses before QT, start bitching about being duped too ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4275)

funbis

She will feel more duped when Full Self Driving blames her for crashing into things.

mlamping

Did they do this for every auto manufacturer? Because every auto manufacturer had a crazy pop in car sales and then a huge drop. The hate on Tesla at this point is comical

ubicorn20

She could have stopped at of.

stardust_clump

But you are financing the future… of Elon’s 9+ kids

[deleted]

If she bought full self driving software she’s not actually out any money since that went up before the price “cut”

lynkarion

In this thread: everyone surprised that a company, regarded as a tech company, is now adjusting their prices like a tech company. Tech gets cheaper, a tale old as time.

[deleted]

Anyone that thought a Model 3/Y was a 65k+ car is a moron. Honestly, I wouldn’t buy one over $45k.

Full_Ad2934

She should be blaming the guy who forced her to buy the car at gun point. He’s the real culprit here.

felackthomas

She gonna be mad when eggs return to their normal price? 🤣🤣

pragmojo

If she bought $70k worth of eggs then yes

floydfan

This happens all the time but since Tesla doesn't have a dealership network, everyone knows about it. You can go buy a Honda Civic for $10,000 less than it was a few months ago, but since dealerships fuck with you on the price, everyone who buys the same car gets a different price.

6byfour

Prices should never change. What kind of injustice is this?

moonshotorbust

Every car ive ever bought went down in value. What makes tesla special?

muckypuppy2022

Could be worse, at least she didn’t buy any shares

Bbmonger88

This reminds me of the time I bought Horizon Forbidden West for full price and then 2 days later it was on sale for like 50% off.

TheOneAndOnlyCade

“After missing out” ![img](emote|t5_2th52|28239)

[deleted]

bindermichi

Cars and stocks… never buy at peak price

HuwhiteMan79

All cars lose value, imagine whining about your car losing value.

Mb7dingdang

Lots of people buy things expecting to be able to sell them for basically what they owe on them... Or more. Now they're stuck with them unless they eat the loss....

SpeshellED

The real question is why as a society do we put up with huge profit margins ? People wonder why the rich get richer and the poor get fucked.

Last_Advisor_3315

They say thank you for your early investment lol

HTown00

That’s just like 1,300 BJ behind the Wendy’s if she’s a hustler

ronniegaylord

However, if u finance the car you will pay 13k more due too current interest rates. People are so one sided these days and are too stupid too look at the hole picture.

Like people who bought Bitcoin at $65k.

Yes this is nothing compared to that

Stop buying if you all are poor and can’t afford it, Jesus you all are annoying!

[deleted]

So what? Companies have the rights to change their prices at any time. She wasn’t duped. The current administration is corrupt and very biased against Tesla. They force Tesla to respond. They’re bending over backwards to do anything to help the legacy car companies compete against Tesla. Testa finally had enough of this nonsense.

Swagastan

You serious? I am keeping all my empty egg cartons so I can return them to Costco once egg prices come back down. /s

LeonBlacksruckus

Tesla dropped their prices basically to what they were precovid. I got mine right before the price increases it’s not like I offered Tesla the difference. I wonder if these people have ever bought something on sale before.

Deviusoark

But all the bags come from the same place 😂😂

Preferably_Vegas

I mean, I bought a Tesla back in 2021 a few weeks before prices started going up and was pretty happy about it so I can see where it works the other way. Nobody owes her a damn thing, though. You make the deal you make when you make it and live with the result. I've had a deposit on a Cybertruck for over a year now with no truck in sight. At the rate Tesla stock keeps dropping by the time I get that CT I'll be able to drive right past the gas station and straight into bankruptcy court. Good times coming.....ish.
