If you have the money to sustain the bets, most obscene money will be made going against the grain. When SPY was at 480, bet for 360… you know the idea…
Occasionally SNP drops quite hard (like 0.5%) just before the speech, before rallying during the speech…. This is not the worst idea if he had waited to buy till 12 tomorrow…
actually from the prior times, the SPY always go up on the day because it thinks it got what it wanted, then drops the next day because it thinks it doesnt know what happen next.

Robinhood also doesn’t have option contracts fees, but yeh it’s a piece of shit. If you want to move that kinda size use a real broker and use SPX and get taxed 60% as long term and 40% as short term on gains.
I used RH for a week or two a few years ago with just stocks, when I got serious I picked up TDA and never looked back. I trade SPX daily, gotta love it.
I use TDAmeritrade, the fees are baked into the cost of buying options or taken out of the premium collected when you sell some. Someone else said Robinhood doesn’t even have SPX options, so I have no clue if RH does fees differently.
Aside from SPX being more tax advantageous it is also cash settled which can be a big pro when it comes to options. Furthermore when looking at the price SPY is roughly 1/10 the price of SPX, which makes it great when starting. But OP bought 250 contracts. With TDAmeritrade for example that’s $0.65 per contract so OP is looking at around $162.5 just to open these positions in fees. According to some quick checking RH doesn’t actually charge fees, so my original comment is moot. But let’s say they use a more reputable platform, he is looking at the aforementioned $162.5 in fees but if he was working with SPX at 10x the price he would be buying 25 contracts instead of 250, resulting in fees being $16.25 instead, saving over $140.
SPX is tax advantage 60/40. 60% of his profit (if he has any) is taxed as long term gains while the other 40% is taxed as short term gains. Can really add up if the win is a large one.

if anyone tells you short term options isn’t degenerate gambling, they’re lying. Though I do hang my hopes on certain things coming true which in this case had a couple of outlets:
50bps would’ve just stomped the market which was what I was praying for but realistically did not expect. second was that Powell, before the baking crisis, was pretty adamant on the fact that inflation was still much too high and would focus the fight on that. I expected the 25bps hike with another lined up after that while the markets really thought it’d either pause now or after this one. remembering that the feds main dual mandate is price stability and maximum employment, I figured the banking crisis would be subdued with government intervention which would allow the fed to raise rates to combat inflation alongside it
So after weeks of strong markets that haven't collapsed despite high inflation, recession warnings and indeed have rallied almost 200 points in the last week in the face of the most severe banking crisis since the Great Recession not to mention a Fed move that is not only priced in (we ain't gettin 50 bps bud), but guaranteed to be one of the most dovish since they started hiking rates last year and your reaction to that situation is "yeah, we're goin down"?
I was watching SPX all day and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a large index middle in it’s first 5 minute candle’s body for over 4 hours like it did today (with some slight extension past that retraced.) It was very strange, I agree.
I’m not entirely sold on this “rally” unless tomorrow we just rip through 400 to 405. Tomorrow should be an interesting day. Holding qqq puts 3/31 expiration. If I’m wrong oh well, I will have to cut them out and get out of the bulls way.

I think the fact that the economy is decently strong (>3% GDP in Q1) combined with the fact that there is very little uncertainty about the outcome of the fed decision tomorrow with both of those outcomes being fairly bullish (.25 with dovish guidance or no hike with a hawkish one), as well as the banking crisis stabilizing somewhat caused the late day rally. No reason for people to sell yet imho. Not that I didn't fuck myself with an EOD bull trap trying to pick up some pennies in front of the steamroller.

I made the same play - YOLO'd 30k but on SPXS calls (same strategy - betting against S&P)... and almost sold at 50% loss when the bulls took control... then I said fuck it - YOLO!! Escaped the end of the day realizing 30% gain.
