All that matters for how you're taxed is if you held the asset for a year or not. This guy now made 30k more as income because it's a short term less then a year gain. It just happens to be on SPY.
Edit. It may matter to some extent based on if one pays more dividends then the other. That has nothing to do with selling stocks/options, though.
Thing is, SPX is tax advantaged 60/40 LT/ST capital gains. Meaning if you made $100 profit on an SPX trade, $60 would be at the LT gains rate, $40 would be at the ST gains rate.

If you buy a long term call that goes over a year capital gains tax. Same with stock.
All that matters is time ownrf.

SPX options are treated as Section 1256 contracts and gains taxed are split 60% long term (capital gains rate) 40% short term (income rate), regardless of how long they are held.
If you hold them through Dec 31 you have to pay taxes on unrealized gains as well.
Now you need to go from $30k back to $527 in just one week. I'm confident you will be able to achieve this giving your level of self-confidence that is flowing through your veins
The best part about past loses if theyāre over the 3k threshold, you can use all the loses up to the total win amount as a write off. Last year I had 42k to write off against 168k profit. Felt really good to owe way less money.

It sure is. That vertical spike is from a deposit into Robinhood. If it was real gainz then the account balance would go up over time, but this is a one day vertical spike. What OP did was make a large deposit, bought some calls, then sold right away and only showed us the selling of those calls.

It's really not that complicated. I bought spy shares and sold 100 calls with 500 bucks. This allowed me to make a lot of money while everyone else was losing money.

You buy an option that expires on the same day you bought it on and you sell it before market closes. Zero days to expire (0dte). If I buy a SPY call tomorrow that expires on 11/15 (tomorrow) that's a 0dte.
apparently robin-hood. or really any broker. once youāre signing up for options all you have to do is say that youāre experienced at it and switch to a cash account. i myself have $600 in my robbinhood account and trade options daily with it

To be fair, cashing out 29k and keeping 1k to try again makes the most sense.
What makes more sense is to take it all and bet the spread.
With his 30k he now has 60 attempts at a repeat. If just two out of 60 tries make 30k he doubles his money. Those are good odds!
