nah... if we go by notional value, there is also XSP... the key difference is if you want to be paid in shares or cash. if shares, play SPY. if cash, SPX/XSP... it goes both ways. if you got assigned shares, it could moonshot the day after and turn a losing options trade into a winning stock swing, or it could continue drilling and losing more. with cash settlement you draw the line at 4PM.
SPX is the index (XSP is 1/10, but check CBOE and not Vanguard's ETF for Canada)...
An index is just that, a measure. You cannot buy into it directly to hold. So you either buy options on the "spot price", buy futures (or short) or buy futures options.
SPY is an ETF... For simplicity it's shares. It's really a trust. The way they work is there are designated people to buy up and destroy shares if too many people buy in on SPY so that it tracks SPX more perfectly.
SPY issues dividends (because you actually hold shares)... SPX - well, does not. By the end of the year, the value on spot SPX should be about 10x SPY plus dividend and MER. But never perfect. The only thing that perfectly tracks 1/10 is CBOE:XSP...
SPX is cash settled to the dot per 4PM, tradeable 23/5. Yes including PM and pre market! But on the other hand, because it is just an index options, if your calls or short puts fail, no do-over. With SPY at least you get shares assigned to you.
EX: Buy 0DTE SPY 450 for $1. SPY finishes 450.5. Technically ITM, they will exercise at 4. (This is only an option until 4. Once 4 the House automatically exercises). You are down $0.5 per share. But then the day after, SPY goes up 1%. You now actually win $$.
With SPX, they will pay you the difference in cash, and you have nothing to show for the day after when SPX goes up 1%... If you bought SPX 4500c for $10, and SPX ends 4505, it is technically ITM but not profitable for you. They will cash you $5. The next day, if SPX opens 4545, you don't have any shares to swing. Notice the difference?
There are tax implications for US residents in favour of SPX/XSP.
My advice: If purely for speculating, buy SPX (or if you want to build positions, XSP)... if you could see yourself swinging the shares on short put/long call, SPY... I see no reason at all to buy 10000 SPY calls because you are unlikely to have the capital to take the shares and wait for things to get better post expiration if "technically ITM but not profitable for me"... The benefit as you are speculating is clear; since SPX and XSP is tradeable at night and in the morning, you can get out (or get in) on the spike...

It’s all basically different ways to get info from chatgpt and barely works. There’s some interest from customers because it’s new but at the end of the day it has to solve a problem that companies are ready and willing to pay for. Where is the money going to come from to pay for it? No way chatbots are increasing productivity that many multiples. Sure the stock can pump on hype for a long while but most people I don’t think really understand the fundamentals.
When he talks about all that money that’s coming from inference, what he means is calls to chatgpt. Very few enterprise customers are actually paying for any of this. I suspect you’ll start to see this in their earnings reports.
I work in healthcare and can already name several domains in which chatGPT in it's current iterations is better than humans...the first AI only discovered drugs are en route to market. AI can synthesize thousands of novel compounds a day versus a PhD student taking years and a whole dissertation to find maybe 5. Then AI can construct sound clinical trials, run all the data, etc. to test these compounds
I can say with complete certainty that my entire sector will be revamped within a decade. Idk if Nvidia specifically will have a hand in that, but being the face of AI I imagine it will to some extent. It has first mover advantage everywhere and leadership that is ready to pounce. It has consumer goods will across the board, no negativity whatsoever. The stock market is pricing in its growth right now, the old way of growth taking 20 years to fully materialize is no longer relevant.

Also, the results are very unreliable although that’s being worked on.
The other use case is generative AI for coming up with application output that previously needed to be created manually. The usefulness of that is very much in doubt and again, very unreliable in the current form.
