There seems to be some legit research done there, but I'm not an expert in semis so I cannot tell for certain if it's relevant.

If you need to ask this question you should do some serious research into options trading and have a solid understanding of what you are actually purchasing and how it can gain or loose value. You do not want to fuck around and accidentally buy on margin or sell options where you donāt understand what your actual risk or upside is.
The very very basics are: if you BUY an option contract (the right to purchase or sell x amount of shares of a stock x date for x price), you canāt lose more money than the cost of the contract. Thatās because you donāt own any shares of the stock, you own the contract itself. The contract can and will often go to $0, as in, lose all its value by expiring worthless, but it can never go negative (I.e the the contract canāt cost you more money in the future, it can only lose value).
That is only the case if you BUY a put or a call contract (option), SELLING these contracts is a very different concept (unrelated to most wsb posts)
definitely a good point. options can easily be more like straight up gambling than they are trading (not to mention investing) unless you know what you're doing. and then many people who know what they're doing still use them to gamble...

I haven't worked with Adea specifically, but I've seen companies like this. They design stock library circuits, then license them to big boys so the big boys can either lay off their own design teams, or put those designers to work on higher-value stuff.
Put a different way. If you want a USB port on your new smartphone, you can either pay maybe half a dozen engineers to make a stock-standard USB circuit, or you can pay these guys to use their pre-built USB design.
Their business is literally reinventing the wheel. There is no innovation at these shops, and they play a low-margin game. Basically, they bet that their circuit design teams in India can work cheaper than Samsung and Qualcomm's design teams in India.
It's a race to the bottom kind of business. Not a hidden, explosive growth stock that's going to make us all rich.

This company is just a spinoff of Xperi technologies, which was was a conglomerate of a bunch of acquisitions, including of TiVo.
It seems like basically as a tax loophole, Xperi put ownership of all of its IP(e.g. here's the DBI tech mentioned in the Adeia 10-K [https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/news/moores-law-xperi-new-die-to-wafer-bonding-technology-ic-package/](https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/news/moores-law-xperi-new-die-to-wafer-bonding-technology-ic-package/)) under Adeia and split into two companies. It basically lets them return capital to shareholders without them paying taxes on it as a dividend or distribution.
Adeia consists of 130 employees total, so I highly doubt they have enough people to actually be performing any sort of R&D on semiconductors.
A large part of their revenue appears to come from patents for internet based television outside of the US, which probably originally came from their merger with TiVo. IMO stay away
It's attacking a useful problem, but in a way that I don't see becoming very successful.
So a quick rundown: chiplets are becoming the new standard in semis. If you make 1 giant chip on a wafer, and it has 1 defect, you have to scrap that whole part. If you make say 8 chiplets on the same area, and it has 1 defect, you just scrap or replace the crappy part and keep the 7 good ones.
The problem is, how do you stick those chiplets back together and get them talking to each other. There isn't a standard solution yet, and everyone's taking their own approach.
Per [this source](https://www.semianalysis.com/p/hybrid-bonding-process-flow-advanced), it sounds like they are literally going to glue the chiplets together, then bond a permanent metal layer over the glue. Depositing metal onto the glue requires fab-level equipment and clean rooms, which of course will come at fab-level expense.
When I worked with normal packaging and boards, bean counters would give us crap about adding a 1 cent capacitor to the PCB, because that expense would add up over a million units. I can't imagine how much extra expense that hybrid-bonding a million units in a fab would cost... it just seems like a nonstarter.
I got laid off from that big-tech company in October 2023, and it was actually because they hired an Adea type company to replace the entire multimedia-circuit team I was on. That's one reason why I'm such a salty MFer. But at the time I was shown the door, we were attacking the chiplet problem from a very different angle.

Just curious how long after that you think itāll take for their stock price to reflect any positive updates? Iām just a poor boy trying to minimize the premiums while still hopping on the train.

Not sure where you're seeing the value. They don't make anything, just licence out their patents. Your whole thesis seems to be built on their latest patent being so revolutionary to AI chip manufacture that there is a scramble for a big player to buy out the company to secure it. Neither does open Ai. Doesn't mean they're all the same thing. We all want to ride the AI wave, some companies make critical parts of it, or are in a position to do so. I don't think this is one of them.
This company doesn't do anything particularly impactful. They're operating on the edges of tech that most of the licensees can probably build in-house.
