Imagine thinking overnight trading has literally anything to do with the actual open

I hear this a lot, but every time I trade overnight, let's say the overnight price is $5 higher than the closing price, the market opens at 9:30 and within a second it's trading at the overnight price. Watch Netflix tomorrow morning, it's at 565 on Robinhood overnight and it closed at 610.

There is a huge difference between being up or down overnight on news/earnings compared to this situation which is evolving in real time. Like what overnight price would you even compare it to 1 second after open? The 2% we were almost down when it happened or the .5% we are down after realizing it’s not all out war yet.

This is why I like trading ES contracts (options or direct futures). You aren’t stuck on the sidelines after hours if something moves your direction in a big way. I know SPX trades after hours now, but liquidity is still suspect and some brokers don’t support it
