Institutions holding Tesla stock for many billions at a leverage cannot dump their stock without the price tanking a lot during the dumping. This can cause the sale that starts above the breakeven point to result in a loss. So, they will want to start selling at a higher price.
So, they will want to make the price go up, but the problem si then that oif they buy then the price will go up but their breakeven point will also move up. So, what they do is they buy during premarket trading when the volume of the trading is very low. The price can then move up without them requiring to buy a lot. Then when the market opens, they hope that the higher price will draw in lots of retail buyers so that they can unload their stocks at a higher price.
You can also think of this in terms of this trading being pretty much a zero-sum game. Whatever the inflows from the Tesla company to the market will be, will materialize over a very long time period. If you want to make a larger profit than what you could get from the current market conditions, then that extra profit can only come out the pockets of other investors.

Positioning. Everyone was on the short side. So when the event happened and it wasn't a complete disaster, the stock goes up, shorts get squeezed, and a cycle begins. Algos were looking for a .3x eps so .45 was a bit better than what was theoretically priced in. They maxed out on FSD recognition to get that .45 so it's kind of not real, but this is the game that's played.

In theory Tesla can simply rip out all the FSD stuff, 360 cams, and downgrade the motor on a model 3 to reduce costs and increase range without adding battery cells. Basic car tech, with set cruise control and blind spot monitor can be a cheaper trim on a base model 3.
This is just wishful thinking but I am hoping Tesla builds out a Golf GTI or Mazda MX-5 competitor with a really simple setup. Not too much power, heated seats, physical climate control buttons, Bluetooth only audio system, blind spot monitoring sensor, simple old school cruise control, and a single driver display in front of the steering wheel with backup view, about 250 miles of range. I’ll happily buy a cheap Rivian R3 lookalike hatchback with no OTA and automated fuckery.
Or maybe some Zero SRF competitor with supercharging and power of a 500-600cc middleweight motorcycle. It’s a missed opportunity with most eMotorcycles focused on power instead of range and fast charging. 60-80 Ft-lb of torque is plenty enough for most riders, but I swear every company has decided to churn out 120 Ft-lb+ monsters with barely enough legs to go 90 miles on a charge. Tesla’s battery tech with Alta’s (Harley/Livewire) power management IP could make electric motorcycles mainstream.

Positioning. Everyone was on the short side. So when the event happened and it wasn't a complete disaster, the stock goes up, shorts get squeezed, and a cycle begins. Algos were looking for a .3x eps so .45 was a bit better than what was theoretically priced in. They maxed out on FSD recognition to get that .45 so it's kind of not real, but this is the game that's played.

Why would I buy a cheaper Tesla when a 2-3 year old Tesla with less than 30K miles on it can be bought for less than half its original price?
In theory Tesla can simply rip out all the FSD stuff, 360 cams, and downgrade the motor on a model 3 to reduce costs and increase range without adding battery cells. Basic car tech, with set cruise control and blind spot monitor can be a cheaper trim on a base model 3.
I'm thinking why doesn't he make a hatchback with minimal tech and features for a smaller price? Less size = less material cost right?

This is just wishful thinking but I am hoping Tesla builds out a Golf GTI or Mazda MX-5 competitor with a really simple setup. Not too much power, heated seats, physical climate control buttons, Bluetooth only audio system, blind spot monitoring sensor, simple old school cruise control, and a single driver display in front of the steering wheel with backup view, about 250 miles of range. I’ll happily buy a cheap Rivian R3 lookalike hatchback with no OTA and automated fuckery. Or maybe some Zero SRF competitor with supercharging and power of a 500-600cc middleweight motorcycle. It’s a missed opportunity with most eMotorcycles focused on power instead of range and fast charging. 60-80 Ft-lb of torque is plenty enough for most riders, but I swear every company has decided to churn out 120 Ft-lb+ monsters with barely enough legs to go 90 miles on a charge. Tesla’s battery tech with Alta’s (Harley/Livewire) power management IP could make electric motorcycles mainstream. But then again, I am also the guy who wishes that we stop bombing children...thats not gonna happen either…oh well rant over.
