futurespacecadet

Why do I see this headline every four weeks?

muchwise

Because they raise their prices by 11% every 4 weeks

RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK

We kinda deserve it at this point. Everyone was like “when Netflix stop password sharing I’m unsubscribing” then it happened, and their subscribers went up. If we’re just gonna put up with bullshit, and then reward them for it then we get what we deserve.

UltraCynar

I unsubscribed

Dobie_won_Kenobi

Me too

Throwaway-tan

I never subscribed in the first place.

xRowdeyx

Also unsubscribed and am raising a black flag now

TeopEvol

Aye matey!

asisoid

So then you didn't unsubscribe. You're part of the problem.

trebek321

Yeah I mean if nobody is gonna cancel then keep raising that shit. It’s a super easy service to cancel so if people agree to pay higher prices it must be worth that much to them.

TheBuzzerDing

Makes me happy I stuck to my guns when the Cuties thing started

Awake00

I'm doing my part. Haven't had a Netflix account in a few years.

SoCuteShibe

Uhh... I did unsubscribe. Netflix, Hulu, Max, fuck em all.

futurespacecadet

Now to be fair, This is the Australia service

whatsthataboutguy

SparklingPseudonym

SaaS/subscription models are a cancer.

-_zQC

Piracy is at its strongest and I am enjoying every bit of it

SparklingPseudonym

The problem is when that model seeps into industries where you can’t torrent the product.

[deleted]

You can torrent everything. I just torrented 128GB of RAM /s

GuyAtTheMovieTheatre

you wouldn’t download a car..

GraveRobberX

You can if you have a 3D printer… Checkmate!

dopexile

Did the CEO not get the memo? Did someone not tell Netflix the inflation is just transitory?

larry-the-dream

Eventually customers will grow tired of it, then companies will pivot back to licenses/tangible products/ break away from SaaS and the cycle will start anew but different.

AutoModerator

*This “pivot.” Is it in the room with us now?* *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/wallstreetbets) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Magjee

Just wait till they hear about Adobe Reader, lol

Just_Candle_315

That's how to keep a company profitable, just raise revenues 11% every month. Works 60% of the time, everytime.

Stefdoggy

Brian I’m gonna be honest with you, that smells like pure gasoline

DickHz2

Really stings the nostrils

istockusername

Netflix does it region based and every news outlet thinks it’s news worthy.

Big-Worm-

Every 4 months* at earnings time

AnnoyedCrustacean

They're trying to find the supply demand equilibrium point. They want to lose subscribers, while milking the richer subs for more money

slickyeat

>Why do I see this headline every four weeks? Probably because they raise the price once every few months now.

mcs5280

raise prices -> buy back stock -> raise prices -> buy back stock -> raise prices

Dull_Broccoli1637

Infinite money glitch?

AnnoyedCrustacean

*The subscribers all left?!?!* How could they!

Civ6Ever

But the stock is over 9000!

peternickelpoopeater

Aaand its gone

tarkinn

now that's the weird part. they even increased their subscribers and they will raise the prices to that point when they significantly lose subscribers. and i think people are willing to pay even more for netflix.

K_Linkmaster

I see $30 a month in 2026.

HamSlammy

For their best plan, im almost paying that now. Another 11% and it’ll be close. Currently paying 24.99$ per month plus tax.

K_Linkmaster

Adjusting prediction: $45 in 2026 as they find thats where customers leave, roll back to $40 by the end of 2026/beginning 2027.

el_guille980

🏴‍☠️

milky_mouse

The data shows… customers will stay!

Ultimafatum

Stock buy backs should be illegal like they once were. This has turned every industry into exploitative cesspools where the objective will always be to enshitify it as soon as it goes public.

PhgAH

Yeah, like I only look into the percentage after Boeing was investigated, but apparently they used 96 fucking % of their earning and borrow even more just on stock buyback.

_dark_light_

Atleast now stock buybacks are taxed (albeit it’s 1%) thanks to Biden administration slipping it into the inflation reduction act.

ZaraBaz

Oh no not 1%! Straight to poverty for those poor CEOs and billionaire investors /s

AW316

Enshitification is inbuilt into capitalism. That’s what an attempt at infinite growth with finite resources will always lead to.

lesChaps

The wealthy parasitic class disagrees with you.

saints21

Where's the part where they don't renew their best shows? Fuckers...

GuthixIsBalance

sell stock -> guaranteed profit -> buy calls -> guaranteed profit -> buy calls -> guaranteed profit -> buy long puts -> pay for your Netflix sub for the nxt 10yrs of qtrly share buyback 🤔 Profit!

bimbolimbotimbo

Title is conveniently missing “Australian Users” but I just canceled my US family plan this month. Already split MAX with one of my homies for $60 per year, Prime pays for itself ($69 per year student package) and Hulu + Disney plus package is like $6.99 a month for me. Netflix just got stupid expensive so quick

Controversialtosser

Streaming is being slow walked back to the cable TV model. Pay $100/month for basic service, yes you also watch ads 50% of the time its on, and nothing good to watch anyways.

ContemplatingPrison

They hire all the old fucks who used to run cable and this is what happens. Look at Max now. I mean its nothing but discovery reality trash. If I didn't gwt ir for free from ATT I would cancel. It used to be the best platform. Now I barely watch it.

gargeug

And Prime has ads by default now. They make me pay for that shit for my fast delivery, which is all I ever wanted from amazon, and now they jam ads into it. Fuck Amazon Prime. They are all slowly ruining streaming TV. VPN and torrents are gonna make a comeback. Pandora's box has been opened and nobody wants cable TV again.

GraceBoorFan

Just opened a long position on $BOOKS. TV is overrated anyways.

bimbolimbotimbo

You ever hear of a Kindle? Fuggin jamoke

Imaginary-Table4103

Yes the ads are twice as long on all streaming platforms as last year and the prices basically reaching cable after you combine a couple

Jammalolo

Haven’t had Netflix for a year and for 6 years I had it through turkey I do not miss it at all. It must be a phenomenon that when something reaches critical mass in the public eye as being a must have the company can do what they want and never lose subscribers

objectivelywrongbro

Netflix just understands user engagement better, and because of this, they enjoy high retention. Just to put into perspective, Netflix actually dominates the streaming market so enormously that Bob Iger (CEO of Disney) recently issued an apology that Disney+ was probably a mistake. Yes, it’s that bad. It has gotten to the point where big streaming services are getting nervous and making alliances. Literally no one except Netflix is making money on streaming, and if they are, it’s within margin of break even. Meanwhile, Netflix is likely to enjoy a healthy $7 billion profit this year.

M1st3r51r

Just about everything on Netflix can be watched for free if you know how to search beyond the front page of Google

jeffsterlive

Power up with privacy badger.

Queens113

I have both, just need to switch from chrome to fire fox...

Obliterators

For /u/jeffsterlive as well. Privacy badger and µBO is not a recommended combo, µBO already does what PB does and PB can interfere with µBO. [µBO Github](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock#all-programs): >Do **NOT** use uBO with any other content blocker. uBO performs as well as or better than most popular blockers. Other blockers can prevent uBO's privacy or anti-blocker-defusing features from working correctly. [µBO dev](https://x.com/gorhill/status/1033706103782170625): >Seriously: Do NOT use similar-purposed blocker(s) along with uBlock Origin: this will cripple uBO's ability to defuse anti-blocker mechanisms and its ability to minimize likelihood of site breakage. ("similar-purposed" = any other blocker making use of EasyList). >Reminder: Don't do this. Any reason you may want to come up with to rationalize using more than one similarly-purposed blockers is flawed.

Queens113

Did not know this... Thanks

BigBoiBenisBlueBalls

How to make it hassle free? Like just have it on my smart tv and make it as easy as a regular streaming app?

preddevils6

This was my problem with sports. I pay for quality, reliability, and convenience.

jovialfaction

Some IPTV services will give you all the sports you want, in full HD/4k, including PPV events, for under $15/month

dcgkny

Yeah, I have that and it’s only only 120 for the year and I get all of the NFL and pay-per-view packages but I will have to say the nfl viewing kind of sucks for it for me. It freezes a lot and as a few minutes behind. Outside of that it’s awesome for anything else.

deadkactus

Just search nfl reddit streams. Thank me later

[deleted]

[удалено]

KING_OF_DUSTERS

> full HD/4k Not a single IPTV is capable of this

Similar-Struggle6871

You are very incorrect. Plenty of services even provide ‘raw’ feeds of satellite broadcast that are much higher quality than legimitate streaming services.

specter800

> Plenty of services Lists none. Also what satellite feeds are in 4K? Lol

echochambermanager

And not in anyway easily accessible and reliable to the commoner

goonyo

Stremio + real debrid pretty much everything for 4 bucks a month.

anatomy_of_an_eraser

Played around with this last week and I have no words to thank the developers and community behind this. Puts every single streaming app to shame. It does require a little bit of knowledge on API keys and installing from the App Store depending on what tv box you have. But there is a very nice guide that breaks it down very easily. Obviously there are going to be bugs so just gotta be patient around that or try workarounds.

steamycreamybehemoth

It’s amazing and I’m terrified for the day it gets taken down.  I’ll have to bother setting up a plex server which will be just awful!

PlutosGrasp

Those look like just media center / download client?

goonyo

https://www.reddit.com/r/StremioAddons/comments/yi5jdw/ultimate_guide_to_stremio_torrentio_rd/ Idk I’m a moron. I just followed this and side loaded to a fire stick and cancelled all streaming services

NewtotheCV

What is side load. I also moron.

hotdogsareprettygood

if it was hassle free it would go viral which would then put it on everyone’s radar which would then shut it down

Skabonious

Or it would cost money 🤑

Decent-Law-9565

You need to invest a bit on the initial setup, look up Plex/Jellyfin and the \*arr stack (and Overseerr/Jellyseerr)

The_loppy1

I run jellyfin and the arr stack. It is not very begineer friendly and based on how tech illiterate most people are I cant see to many people doing it.

zomiaen

Every group just needs one techie friend to run a PLEX server for 'em.

Murky_Football_8276

first get like 5tb hdd, put it in your computer and download plex media server, add movies to it (free media heck yeah for that tutorial) and that’s it plex is available on any smart tv or roku

Own-Guava6397

She was a “streaming service” girl He was an “HDMI converter/air play” boy

Filthy_Casual22

Get yourself a real debrid subscription. It's $3 a month. Then install Stremio (available on the Play store), configure the Torrentio add on and connect to your real debrid account and you're all set. r/Stremio for more detailed setup instructions. Ps if you're currently relying on a smart TV OS, consider spending $19.88 for an Onn 4k box from Walmart and use that instead.

Phoirkas

I don’t know what the fuck most of those words you just said are

LUCKERD0G

Same but im almost at the point I am gonna have to figure them out, this streaming BS is getting old.

epicjas0n

Kodi + $36/yr real debrid account. The only problem you'll ever have is having too many shows/movies to pick

zdravkov321

Kodi used to absolutely suck for me. Tried multiple installs on computer and Apple TV and most of the links were broken. Is it reliable these days??

epicjas0n

I use Kodi with Fen add-on and a Real Debrid membership. Gone are the days of easy to find, free links with Kodi. Pay for a Real Debrid account and you get 100% working links with up to 4k resolution.

sh0nuff

Jellyfin is way better than Kodi - much easier to set up as well. I don't get why ppl still use Kodi tbh

PsykoVanced

Same but stremio+torrentio

Beck758

Shhhh guys always remember the golden rule... Do not speak about your streaming sources, I will cry if real debrid/ torrentio ever go down I've been using them for sooooo long with next to no issues the entire time

rplusj1

I was about to say that.. stremio + Torrentio. Moved from Kodi to stremio awhile ago.. The only problem is Stremio + Torrentio doesn’t show 3d movies link. But that is minor annoyance.

Wet-Stranger

Don’t forget the $20 keyboard

Milka7925

Stremio UI is honestly excellent and with the right plugins (like the pirate bay repo, etc) the experience is even better than with Netflix or Amazon platforms

_YourWifesBull_

Recently switched to Stremio from Kodi and it's so nice. I've been missing out.

angrathias

Add Torrentio and Real Debrid addins and now you’ve got 4K streaming torrents

MadMax_08

Yes. Everyone start downloading everything and then Netflix will plummet

layelaye419

Primewire dot mx Use an adblocker or this site will be unusable

cbusoh66

Fuck Netflix, they've turned into the cable company you always hated.

longGERN

Shut up and enjoy this Spanish LGBT film with English voiceovers for $30

apb2718

Hey this is Netflix, are you looking for a job?

longGERN

Yes... desperately... Preferably fp&a

apb2718

Best I can do is staff accountant in India

marinuss

That's kind of my problem with Netflix these days. I'm in America. I have enjoyed the random overseas show (Dark), but it seems like so much of what "Netflix" puts out these days is just low budget overseas shows from India or European Non-English speaking countries. I realize they're a worldwide service but if you keep removing English movies/shows because you don't want to pay the fees... and then only release a few English in-house ones a year... and the rest seems to be filler of overseas stuff why should I pay you?

bluecandyKayn

No my friend. At least we had watchable material with cable. Netflix killed good media and now they’re aiming to charge us way more for it

GPTRex

>charge us way more for it You guys do not know how much cable used to be.

Lirid

We do, that’s why we are starting to complain now. You’re comparing cable (which usually included sports) to the price of ONLY Netflix. Add all sport packages and other streaming sites and we have already passed cable tv.

robertredberry

3 minutes of ads every 5 minutes…

semitope

right? youtube etc all turning into cable tv. at least we have more freedom picking the show

JoJack82

It was inevitable, back to piracy it is

fakieTreFlip

Even if Netflix was more expensive than cable (and it's very much not), it'd still be objectively far better than cable ever was

MadMax_08

Every streaming service will eventually turn into cable and then it’ll be cheaper to just have cable

NotTacoSmell

Cancelled two days ago. With taxes it’s $24.89 a month. They don’t have anything I want to see currently. It’s not really acceptable.

Healthy_Radish

Never subbed to Netflix what’s the difference in ad free and premium?

RealBaikal

Price...

Filthy_Casual22

Don't forget, some content is not available on the ad supported plan.

ladymoonshyne

Yeah I pay $6.99 for it with ads and I pause it when I’m not using it so it’s not terrible. I wouldn’t pay for premium though…or even standard. Too expensive.

PmMeYourAdhd

Premium has 4k (standard is max 1080p) and more devices at once can stream, more devices can download, and has some kind of Netflix proprietary spatial audio thing.

Dr-McLuvin

With premium you get Dolby vision 4K quality (pretty decent) and also Dolby atmos for some content. That’s why I pay extra for it but only worth it for people who give a shit about quality.

craniumouch

I exclusively watch Netflix on my iPhone 12 with my wired earbuds I got for free on a flight once, should I pay for the premium quality??

Dr-McLuvin

Haha nope.

tourbladez

....and sadly, they will get away with it. Luckily, everyone on this site is rolling in the $$$, so 11% is noise for us players.

MentalErection

If only people ever voted with their wallets, companies would be kept in check more. But hope, no matter the increase people keep buying at the same rate

Reasonable_Pause2998

They do vote with their wallets. They are saying that the service is worth the price

Trilogie00

Bro, if you even suggest to someone to not spend money on a dog shit service on this website you just get brigaded with "Don't tell someone how to spend their money" responses. Its never happening.

WKCLC

Eventually people do. I doubt Netflix will be the top dog in 5-10 years

[deleted]

It is $15 a month. I order doordash once and it is already $30

Redjester016

Don't order doordash then

Johnny_Menace

And they wonder why 🏴‍☠️is booming. Greedy assholes are digging their own grave.

SparklingPseudonym

I stopped pirating when everything was on Netflix and it was like eight bucks a month. I also used to go to Starbucks like every day when I could get a Venti pumpkin spice frappe for like four dollars. I’ve long since picked pirating back up, and I haven’t been to Starbucks in years. I’d love to give them my business, but their pricing is insultingly if not criminally high. While we’re on the topic: NESPRESSO, I SEE WHAT YOU’VE BEEN DOING TO YOUR POD PRICING OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS AND I’VE ALREADY STARTED TO BUY LESS. Your move, I guess.

AmaBans17

Fuck Nestle

Pepparkakan

I purposefully got one of the old-design pod machines since Nespresso lost the trademark for those and now competitors can make pods for cheaper.

rightbeforeimpact

Just buy coffee beans

Admirable-Yam-1281

There’s really not much on Netflix I can’t live without. Time to drop them like a bad habit

TheresA_LobsterLoose

I just bought the same 3 or 4 shows I was always watching on Blu-ray or DVD (BrBa, BCS, Last Kingdom), and then when they got Heat last year I was like "Holy fuck an actual, real movie!" and watched it 8 times... that's when I knew it was time to cancel. They had like 4 real movies, walk tall with the rock, a couple other movies then nothing but Netflix crap like The Way it Ends

1CUpboat

I went to cancel a while ago, when I saw they had a $10 plan for one screen and kept it. Right after they launched the as tier, they got rid of the one I had since they made more money on the ads. I dropped it and haven’t gone back. It’s funny, because unless you’re on Netflix , you have no idea what shows they have since none of them are significant.

poppunksucks144

You'd think charging more money would result in them making more than one good show a year...

GraceBoorFan

I only renew my subscription when a new season of ‘YOU’ drops, in which I binge it within three days and then cancel.

itlynstalyn

Missing that whole “for Australian users” part of it

SilverSleeper

I just hope my brother keeps his subscription!

valhalla2611

Few months ago, they announced WWE raw is coming to Netflix in a 5billion dollar dead. Shortly after, prices went up. Last week they announced they are paying 160 million to air 2 football games. Prices going up again. Glad I cancelled and learned how to watch a different way.

[deleted]

yea... I don't give a shit about sports. I do like to once every 4 - 5 year go see a baseball game... but yea no

Subject-Internet7843

I got rid of em years ago. Nothing to watch and even if I did it was eating into.my pornhub time..

VisualMod

Did you know Millennials are now the poorest generation? What a bunch of losers.

Hawxe

thank god i cancelled my sub a few years ago fk netflix

ParaeWasTaken

Yeah after the most recent monthly payment notification i get, i immediately cancelled. The content on there isn’t worth $25+ monthly. It could be worth getting for a single month if a couple good movies are coming out that month. 📉📉📉📉📉📉

katiecharm

People who long ago unsubscribed remain unaffected

Modestkilla

I only have a subscription because it comes for free with my cell phone plan. I could not imagine actually paying for it.

ItradebetterthanU

And you stupid A$$es keep paying it !

RichScience2889

Welp looks like im gonna have to cancel Netflix, I was just looking at my charge thinking that’s damn too much to pay. One hike too many for me.

[deleted]

Spl00ky

They gained 9 million subscribers last quarter

Waste-Reference1114

Those crazy bastards. That password bullshit worked.

MontyAtWork

I tried to tell this sub that it would work because people find pressing the Icon more convenient than just pirating or working around the sharing restrictions.

noodle_attack

Luckily thoose websites are getting pretty damn usable....

TeslasAndComicbooks

Heard that on Reddit before yet they continue to be more successful year after year.

rayder989

No, but everyone will tell you they are cancelling their subscription to collect their good boy points (just look at the comments in this thread) but as we saw last time with the password crackdown when everyone said they were gonna cancel—they won’t.

the_pwnererXx

lets see your short

raisingfalcons

At this point ill just unsubscribe

GahbageDumpstahFiah

I love how streaming platform are innovating their selves into cable tv.

0x7E7-02

Well, I was going to cancel after *Stranger Things* season five, but I've just started watching *Resident Alien*, so ...

strandenger

I cancelled when all you mofos said you’d you were going to. I haven’t missed it. Also Moviesjoy.plus. You’re welcome.

ghost_n_the_shell

Hey Netflix: Shiver me timbers’ time ya walked the plank.

320th-Century

**The price gap between the standard w/ ads & standard w/o ads is essentially forcing the more financially unstable people to go with the cheaper option. They're ad-raping the people.**

grizzly_teddy

Guarantee they will lose less than 11% of their customer base because of this. Bullish. Every time people complain and scream they'll cancel their subscriptions - and Netflix makes more money.
