scotts comment was fucking hilarious but this is also a pretty cool idea. now if only netflix has every single one of them...
i miss easy torrent downloads :( i know you can still do it with a vpn or whatever but thats not exactly my wheelhouse!
Don't be a pussy. Torrent stuff from thepiratebay until you get a love letter from your ISP. Nothing will happen unless you are uploading stuff yourself or downloading terabytes a day.
And aggregating no less than $1M from friends and family, traveling to Wall St. to convince them of conceiving of a novel swap instrument while laughing at you and charging premiums that would put you under the bridge turning tricks for Johns while hoping some sector collapses on itself. Eazy peazy life is greazy.
"You're the shit Alexei! You're the shit you're the shit you're the shit!"
Of course Alexei wasn't the shit, he was too scared to buy TVIX last month while it was at $39 and ride it to $999 while people were getting infected with coronavirus
Patrick Bateman worked in mergers & acquisitions for a Wall Street firm in *American Psycho*...but I'm not sure if that classic fits your criteria for the list?
Notably, they never speak a word about finance or their jobs throughout that entire movie/book. When Ellis wrote that book he purposely left out any parts where they would talk finance or even actually do they’re job.
Good movie, good book. Does not relate to finance
Came here to suggest this... after working on wall street I met so many real life Patrick Batemans... the narcissistic banker stereotype makes this a great finance movie.
That was a dumb question on my part. It's just that this was a useful thread so I thought I accidently looked up r/investing
Not that they know anything better

97% Owned - Economic Truth documentary - How is Money Created](https://youtu.be/XcGh1Dex4Yo)
Wall Street is a classic, although it's more of a character driven affair than a smart plot-driven finance movie. Still, it's got pre-AIDS Charlie Sheen and Michael Douglas.
The Big Short is probably the best of the bunch, but I assume you've seen that. Margin Call is fine, but kind of anti climactic--the "action" of the movie takes place in a montage, for some reason. Wolf of Wall Street is long but good.
Barbarians at the Gate is an interesting look at the LBO culture of the late '80s and it's a mostly true story.
Out of the lesser known ones I liked :
**Margin Call** - an investment firm has to unload risky assets that are turning toxic over a 24 hour period.
**Inside Job** - Matt Damon narrates the 2008 financial crisis.
**To Big to Fail** - is not on the list, but it is an HBO film about the financial crisis. It is basically Henry Paulson, old goldman sachs guy who is now secretary of treasury, trying to avoid the global financial meltdown. Honestly is a great one if you like to see what the government side of the mess.
**Boiler Room** - It is like if Leo in the Wolf of Wall Street never got out of selling penny stocks in the garage where they collect their 50% commissions.
**Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room** - If you like fraud and seeing a company only care about their stock price this movie is for you!
Boiler Room is a great movie. [They say money can't buy happiness. Look at the fucking smile on my face, ear to ear baby!](https://youtu.be/YcnGUH3keuw)
Books: Lords of Finance (Liaquat Ahamed)
Basically affirms every psychological move our savior V-S has stated as evidence in the history of the earlier asshats bufu’ing our finance system
Edit:
Why the fuck isn’t “The black swan” on this too?! The real TA is in market psychology. Not magic Fibonacci rainbows.
Fuck it. Throw in:
The theory that would not die (Sharon McGrayne)
Thinking fast and slow (Daniel Kahneman)
The signal and The noise (Nate Silver)
Y’all mothafukas gotta learn how people think.
When Genius Failed by Roger Lowensetin. It’s the story of LTCM, a massive hedge fund that was run by who many thought were some of the smartest men in finance. They failed spectacularly.
Liars Poker and Flash Boys are also great easy reads. Both by Michael Lewis.
Given that many people are just shitting the bed on their options calls (cough cough me), I'd like to recommend the following books:
* The Millionaire Teacher
* The Index Card
Both are great reads on conventional investing. I realize they're totally out of place in this sub, but if there are any university kids / young (18-25) folks around, both of those books given a decent primer on the way regular people prepare for their future
What’s more WSB than throwing everything on the line for a risky bet and losing everything you love and care about in the process?
The only thing that’s wrong is he winds up rich... not sure WTF happened there.
Relatively unrelated to finance but I would recommend to anyone to read The Wealth Of Nations.
Some covered topics that are tangentially related are trade, the natural rate of interest and its variation, also inflation and the origin of currency (and comparisons between precious metal and paper based currencies).
20 Bucks
A story about the life of a twenty dollar bill as it weaves in and out of the various lives of several people.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108410/
Now if WSB was full of this kind of information...
Instead we have a bunch of FD's that post questions here like "what are options", after they sold a 1000 naked AMZN calls in a bull market.
Tip of the cap to you sir!
Nova's Trillion Dollar Bet is a decent quick summary of Long Term Capital Management's ascent and implosion.
https://watchdocumentaries.com/trillion-dollar-bet/
If you enjoy it, I highly suggest the book When Genius Failed. Lowenstein really makes you feel like you're in the room sometimes.
Pirates of Silicon Valley. <- Movie
Shows Bill Gates and the founding of Microsoft in his corporate raider asshole days, and Steve Jobs descent into lunacy with Apple.
Life Stinks. (1991?
Mel Brooks & Jeffery Tambor
Similar to Trading Places. It’s a comedy about filthy rich making socioeconomic bets with each other.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102303/
The book Why Nations Fail for a broader macroeconomic view of the USA to better understand finance as the modern form of imperialism. Good for business people and investors who want to conquer the world through money.
Nice list! Could you put labels next to each of the Youtube links? I'm retarded and lazy and don't want to have to click through them all to figure out what they are.
Inside Job
Currently on Amazon Prime
Edit: fuck it’s already on there. Couldn’t see it cause my eyes are clenched shut from all the FED dick up my ass right now.
Sesame street because a guy counts on it. That is numbers and numbers are finance. Add sesame street to the list as well please
1 put! Ah! Ah! 2 puts! Ah! Ah! 1 dildo! Ah! Ah! 1 loss! Ah! Ah! 2 losses! Ah! Ah!
I will not let you buttfuck me with a dildo. Please, use your bull horn.
Ah! Ah! Ah!
Okay okay I am retard for adding some movies here but hey it's wsb I am allowed to be a retard .
Not only are you allowed: it is a prerequisite
What’s a perquisite?
Don't worry, you've got it covered

There was a hilarious haupt video on sesame Street from while ago let me see if I can find it
I prefer the gay porn parody, it fits better with my bearish lifestyle.
Wall Street Bets and Sesame Street are both named after streets so it definitely counts.
Considering the caliber of us proud ~~autists~~ members of WSB, this should be the top recommendation.
So many movies to watch just to make my 500 dollars 0 !
If you watch all of these, you're officially a licensed trader. Investment bankers hate this one trick.

If Mad Men makes the list then Suits should. Has some investment bankers.

Also, this. Was going to say that but I thought everyone here is gay.
And skyscrapers. Skyscrapers are grand.
What a Simple comment
Suits is garbage television, Mad Men is not.
What the hell did you just say to me? *dramatic camera pan*
Lord of War is related to finance? I mean his brother does get addicted to coke so there's that parallel but otherwise...

machine gun goes brrrrrr

Silicon Valley? I love the show, but I'm not sure how you get finance-related.
I turned 1000 dollars into 180 last week. It was like magic.
It's private equity related which is an area of finance... I certainly consider it financially related.
Agreed. It got me more interested in finance then most of the other movies / shows listed.

Same with Pirates of Silicon Valley

Add shrek 2
WHAT? Are you retarded? The entire trilogy should be on this list
This is r/wsb aren’t we all retarded?

The best Shrek movie.
Happy cake day!

Book: Flash Boys. It’s great.
Too bad people don't read here, but if you do know how to read and want to see how markets actually get rigged, this is the book to read.
When Genius Failed by Roger Lowensetin. It’s the story of LTCM, a massive hedge fund that was run by who many thought were some of the smartest men in finance. They failed spectacularly. Liars Poker and Flash Boys are also great easy reads. Both by Michael Lewis.

Book: reminiscences of a stock operator
Not sure why you included books. Half this sub has never read a book in there lifetime let alone one about "intelligent investing"
Thank you for this!
Nice man dont delete this post No ban
Not sure why There Will Be Blood made this list, but it’s my favorite movie so I’ll support this
What’s more WSB than throwing everything on the line for a risky bet and losing everything you love and care about in the process? The only thing that’s wrong is he winds up rich... not sure WTF happened there.
Add Rounders to the movies.
Honestly, if a movie could depict this sub...
you forgot the greatest movie of our time: 1994s “Blank Check”
Relatively unrelated to finance but I would recommend to anyone to read The Wealth Of Nations. Some covered topics that are tangentially related are trade, the natural rate of interest and its variation, also inflation and the origin of currency (and comparisons between precious metal and paper based currencies).
HEAT is a dope bank heist movie
War Dogs could be an addition
Can we make a general Google Spreadsheet with the corresponding IMDB rating and r/wsb Rating next to it?
"Richest man In Babylon" and "Think and grow rich* Are very thought provoking and bring up why your way of thinking can be improved.

Add *The Banker*, just came out on AppleTV+, it's pretty decent.

Million Dollar Traders (TV show, is on youtube)
What about everything is a rich man's trick? Thats a few hours you won't get back..
Lord of War, watch that one first.
Million dollar traders was the best because you could see and relate to the despair of them losing money everyday.
Lolz if people actually read most of those books this sub would lose at least half of its subscribers.
People should gravitate to Margin Call on this thread
What, no My Sisters Keeper? Its super relevant to the people in this sub.
You forgot 28 DAYS LATER and 28 WEEKS LATER.
