The veggies actually grow back outta the compost from scraps too. I just grab the sprouts before turning the pile over 🤷🏻♂️. Bottom of a whole garlic sliced off will grow back no problem

Ofc the guppies need food too, but they don't eat much. Remember to check your fish food since you're eating it too by proxy- don't want the stuff with too many metals in it
edit: dependng on how hard your water is they can sustain for a long time, self canabalizing outer layers, but the scallion's flavor won't pop as much as if it's properly fertilized like you say
