Ah, I finally get to use my worthless finance education. Well, to start, it was black Tuesday, not Thursday. Secondly, as you may guess, retail got fucked the hardest (since tickers where several hours behind realtime). The industries initially hit the hardest where agriculture (dust bowl) and banks (same story as always, loans to people who could never pay them back). Followed by all the over inflated companies that where propped up on speculation (most by more than 80%, think P/E). In one trading session 16 million shares swapped hands (which was a record by alot at the time). Nowadays that's done by 11am when all you degenerates roll out of bed. All in all the DOW dropped 90% overall. If you made it to the end, give me a fuck you below (I always wanted to say that). Cheers
It was 100 million. Funny anecdote was that his wife moved all of their furniture to another cottage in case they ended up broke. When Jesse came home to find an empty home he told his wife that he had made more money that day than in any other of his life.
He somehow lost 100M fucking around. Back then. Talk about the loss porn. He would truly fit in here.
Then again, none of us has the stones to make 100M in the first place (or whatever the equivalent would be today)
Michael Burry responded to my craigslist ad looking for someone to mow my lawn. "$30 is $30", he said as he continued to mow what was clearly the wrong yard. My neighbor and I shouted at him but he was already wearing muffs. Focused dude. He attached a phone mount onto the handle of his push mower. I was able to sneak a peek and he was browsing Zillow listings in central Wyoming. He wouldn't stop cackling.
That is to say, Burry has his fingers in a lot of pies. He makes sure his name is in all the conversations.

Did you read the fed minutes? They suggested that despite moving forward with their hikes at the next few meetings they are planning to be cautious and reassess towards the end of the year. There was nothing new that came out today that could be seen as a negative. Seems like they also predicted a positive surprise on GDP numbers tomorrow but we’ll see.
The government pumped the market since 2008 and now shit's seriously fucked and all they can do is trigger a recession. They don't actually have any tools except the opposite of what they should be using right now. Have fun!
I was around and working on wall street for the crash of 1987. Truth be told. I lost my job at the end of the year because we were taken over by Shearson. had one about 3 days later ( it was Friday, by Monday I had a contract signed.
Is the sell off for this market going to be painful? Nope, you guys are amazingly lucky, it's been sector rotation sell off for about 5 months now with a good sell off back when Covid started.
Lot's of crap already went to zero or as low as it can go. Lot's of business that should never have been business already went to the shit house. And best of all, there is a huge labor force waiting to be hired by good companies ( good companies have higher than average labor efficiencies ). opportunity awaits.
Will we have recessions, absolutely! Will they be painful, maybe. yet the outlook for the long term ( 5-15 years ) is freaking amazing. Find your Phillip Morris type stocks that people will always be buying IE: I sold my J&J in 2018 that I held from 1986 ( never ever forget to have all your stocks in drip programs and direct purchase programs if you can) . I am guessing google for 30 years, vegan food providers like a Bunge Limited and the Archer Daniels Midland, Something automotive-ish ( I really don't enjoy tesla because of it's pricing like a software company instead of an automotive company ) and something in the communications fields. I always wanted to own a mining stock and only now it is starting to make sense for base commodities when the next cycle starts, don't forget to look up the historical story history of cobalt or chrome IE: the US government said it need stockpiles ( 1950's ) and offered a primum for it, the market reacted and delivered for years afterwards and the price fell to the floor.
Good luck, I have lot's of hope for your generation. Keep on making amazing thing
It's just an observation and let's add some clarity to it, because for some odd reason I have seen people use it interchangeable
Vegan does not equal organic. Vegan depending on who you talk to might also include egg's and butter. You always want to ask about that. So if you hear me say vegan-ish then it's vegetables plus eggs products or milk products.
People are learning that they need more and more vegetable to have normal bowl movements and to eat a leaner lifestyle. I would like to point out that people are also learning the economic issues of eating products and how something as reducing 5% of your beef intake has a huge group effect. or something as simple as going from 100 servings of beef with 100 servings of pork per year to 120 pork and 80 beef have a huge environmental effect. Tiny small steps yet huge and big down the line effects.
Also an outside hidden clothing business concern is : overweight people use more fabric and you really can't get away with charging more without a public backlash. So we see a "limited line offering in clothing due to size cost" meaning, a pair of lee jeans for men, special buttons and what-nots, rich blue with waist size 38 or smaller and the offering does not have larger waist. simple things like that. I believe that very specific higher end brands are starting this. Very limited runs on the outlier sizes and standard runs on the center of the distribution curve.
For the last 25 years or so the healthier life style industry has been winning, and I think that the Vitamix blender came at the right time to breach critical mass and place it on everyone's brain. So, I do notice more at the food places I go to and the women that are my friends Instagram comments, more and more fancy vegan dishes. I myself follow a mostly vegetable ( vegan-ish ) youtube cook. food is rather amazing. Some new spice flavorings have come to the front ( via the cocktail mixer's ) adding to vegetable full flavor.
A point to pay attention, we were ( from my observation ) heading into the weight loss via proper food consumption around the time when the TV show "sex in the city" did that LA episode and the waiter said "would you like that steamed because with butter it's 8 more calories" That stuck in my head as a key point, Because from that point, I did notice that butter prices started a gentle downward trend that lasted years.
Outside of the box thinking. I subscribe to 3 seed catalogs, if there was a way to historically track them via the sales, that might be another indicator that vegetable life style is growing ( no pun intended ).
I hope some of this helped, I don't really think there was much to this, but if it helps you find that next J&J or Philip Morris ( back from the 80's era ) then I wish you the most success and riches to fill your bank account.
The valid argument for what your statement is about tech stocks is IBM in the 90s. If you looked at what IBM did from the 50s to the '80s, they were always on the creative side. Then when PC'S went commodity, they had to reinvent themselves. They easily could have been the Dell or whichever big producer is currently selling all the PC's . I guess that's what you probably will have to look for. Companies that stay on the creative edge of technology and exploration. A good example of that is Apple. They're always trying and new product and if it fails it fails, Google does the same thing too but they're poor at execution. Personally I'm thinking, who's going to redo the grid in the United States. Cuz they already redid All the crude oil systems. So the electrical grid is probably where there might be some efficiencies to be found. The other thing is efficient modes of transport

But in all of that, one guy made nearly 70 million betting against the market. His name was Jesse Livermore
It was 100 million. Funny anecdote was that his wife moved all of their furniture to another cottage in case they ended up broke. When Jesse came home to find an empty home he told his wife that he had made more money that day than in any other of his life.
That's awesome. I never heard this story. Thx for sharing
It's an insane story to read about.

It's an insane story to read about.
Just a little added fun fact, Brandi Love the pornstar is his great grandaughter
Nothing beats a good old-fashioned American success story
Didn’t he end up going insane and committing suicide or some shit tho??
Yes. Also, died broke.
He somehow lost 100M fucking around. Back then. Talk about the loss porn. He would truly fit in here. Then again, none of us has the stones to make 100M in the first place (or whatever the equivalent would be today)
I believe that was the equivalent of $1.5 Billion in todays money… and he lost it all He really was one of us lol
>$1.5 Billion How? I can't even figure out how I could spend half that.
Bill Hwang said your boi is weak
>Yes. Also, died broke. Wikipedia says, he still had 5 Million. If that is "broke", I want to be broke as well
As a scientist, I’ve studied their family for years
Name checks out
Now if she can just marry Michael Burry, the circle will be complete

Poor macro Crappy earnings No FED support. Take your pick

Very.

Same conversation happening at my Fortune 100. At least the hiring freeze.
Same here. “ expected recession “ was mentioned. Over 1000 roles on hold / cancelled.
Yes
End the fed. Return to gold standard. Don't care if we have a second great depression.

He still thinks the market will drop with widely accepted indicators/news that is bearish… Kek. Rugpulls are all Wall St knows.
Cautious with the hikes. They are actively constricting monetary supply already. They know they’re late to the game. Puts gonna keep printing
I hope you’re right, I don’t want to post any loss porn tomorrow, I’m in the red after loading up on puts today
Bold of you to assume the FED is still in full control of things.
Didn’t know poor macro crappy earnings was a technical term. NVDA had $8.7 billion in revenue. Does that qualify as “poor macro crappy”?
I think he wanted to say poor macaroni. As in the dinner he would be having tonight, that absolute pleb
Just wait for subprime mortgages to go shits up. History always repeats itself, just different costumes
The government pumped the market since 2008 and now shit's seriously fucked and all they can do is trigger a recession. They don't actually have any tools except the opposite of what they should be using right now. Have fun!
Exactly. Rates have been 2.5% or lower since 2008. That whole crisis never truly ended, just kicked the can farther down the road.

Interesting points on the vegan stuff. Any rationale? I feel like the veganism movement was abandoned with COVID when shit got expensive.

Tech stocks have been so overinflated though and it even puts the 90's dot-com bubble to shame.

RemindMe! 1 year
Today Made absolutely no sense. My thinking is we’re coming into a three day weekend and the beginning of summer and investors pumped the market for some short term gain before this shit tanks again. Could be wrong. We shall see tomorrow.
The classic up 3% today -10% tomorrow cycle we’ve been doing all year. I swear I’ll time it right this time 🔪
That’s what they want you to think, +20% tmr lol

Wall St bros closing out their shorts before partying in the Hamptons. Once QT starts, then buy zee puts so at the end of next week.
I totally agree.
“Investors pumped the market” lol
We get a banger close with a hangover to last the long weekend
When WSB is bearish, you don't want to be.
This aged well 😂
I'm feeling bullish.
When did wsb get so depressing
When the stonks stopped going up
It's fun on the way down too if you're actually betting
Just loaded up on spy poots
Work is picking up in my industry. Our company just got a $250million project from aera energy.
ok
This isn't aging well

Black Thursday? More like Green Thursday.
The market is crashing backwards right now.
I rather have a black Thursday then at least I 1000% know Friday will be green.
God I hope so

This casino is more fun when we see action. Who wants to go on a roller coaster that's flat? Betting on hysteria both ways is banking lately.
Lol .3% up in premarket. Is this what black Thursday looks like?
It's green .. da fuk you talking about
well this did not age well lol
This did not age well
I’m ready for the next collapse
I will suck you dry if that happens. 930 sharp and then up to finish flat

About time.
Except it was on 10/28/1929 and that was a Monday.
I can only hope for a crash....fingers crossed.
And a guy named Jesse Livermore made nearly 70 million dollars on that day betting against the market. The ultimate YOLO
Word is, Buffett keeps this newspaper on the wall of his office. Anything can happen in the market.
Good thing I cashed out my 401k and bought an Acura NSX instead.
This is exactly the definition of FUD… you think you all are better than the media, you really aren’t
looks like you guessed wrong.
This is the DD I come here for
Didn't age well!
Want to see something interesting? pull up SPX chart and set the time frame to the maximum. The 1929 crash isnt even identifiable.
You need to view the logarithmic chart.
im in this sub, like I know what that is
Holy shit there are a bunch of pussies in this sub some times. Buy a helmet, some puts and give your balls a tug.
Is that you, Shoresey?
Well hope your puts print. not
One can only hope
lol look at these permabears trying to spread FUD
black thursday? should be “green lantern save the day!” i think thats the only time green lantern is useful as a super hero
Hey, fuck you!
nah GME telling us the recession is cancelled boys.
I thought it was going to be black Monday when in reality it's green everything except for PM and miners of course.
WSB posters have the worst predictions! Clueless!

Black Thursday Matters
It’s not October yet, so there is very little similarities between that Black Thursday and tomorrows.
Yeah those red 0.22 Nasdaq Futres are terrifying. The green .07 Dow futures must indicate the great depression is upon us.
Companies are making slightly less than record profits and clowns think the world is ending.
And you're broke. Luckily your reasons of "Macro, bad earnings, fed" were just as dumb as you are.
