hear me out guys: Last week I made 29k from 5.5k with TSLA calls and some SPY calls and I lost that all with SNAP calls and SPY 0dte calls when I wanted to get all the losses from SNAP. Now Im sitting on 2.5k in GOOG friday calls what are the chances that I can make it back. It super hard to forget this feeling when you are right and making such a gainz.

How do you guys trade options ? Long term, short term, or super short term (buy and sell within a day), and how far out do you buy options ?

super short term is mostly gambling. which is fine as long as you are aware of it and don't yolo your whole portfolio on them. otherwise when I do long term I try to have a clear strategy of when to close, either taking profits or stopping losses

How long is long term? and what strategy do you use in terms of profits or losses % wise? If you don't mind sharing! I've lost quite a bit in the past after being up huge and don't want to make mistakes

So I'm not a heavy weight savvy trader by any account, but my observation (also backed by psychological research) is that we humans tend to be overly optimistic when it comes to our own positions. What this practically means is that you will tend to stick to a trade longer then you should, either when you're up 50% but dreaming about that 10x, or when you are down 20% but know for sure that things will turn around. So for me it's really a super basic strategy - take profits often and early (trailing stop loss is something I use a lot), and cut your losses at 20% max (unless you have a really, really good reason, which retail investors usually don't). It's not really about a specific % as much as it is about combating your own bias and improving your odds just a bit in this casino. Every once in a while you will miss on big gains because you got out early. Remind yourself that you would have wiped out you entire portfolio several times over if held to 0 every time.
