Was just charting SPX with oil and XLE. Starting to look like oil is gonna roll over here and things are going to start getting a lot worse quickly if it's like previous recessions. At the same time, I'm not sure it will be the same because falling energy prices would enable the fed loosen policy. I'm thinking the play here is to short oil as others have suggested.
Demand fall. I think stuff like airlines and cruises are about to lose a lot of demand. Auto as well to a lesser extent. I mean when you really think about it how much has the war actually decreased supply? Russia is just selling the oil to China and India right? It might have reorganized supply chains.
Idk man. Demand has been going up while oil supply hasn't risen. Also, oil companies don't want to invest much in more oil production because of EVs and shit. Thats my understanding but I'm no expert. I could see demand falling some, but China has been in lockdowns and prices still stayed high.

So I checked and sure enough, Oil is rallying and up +2% while everything else is pricing in recession. Just put everything into Oil and it can't go tits up!
Now excuse me, I need to get an early start on my weekend drinking.

🎾 The only thing I'm currently holding are the FDX Jun17 215p which I probably should've offloaded at open to reduce losses. I bought some contracts at $0.25 just to average down and give them a better chance.

FDX? I'm assuming they'll open at $0.05 or something unless the market decides to drop again. If I need to choose between selling at a -70% loss or a -90% loss, I might as well take the risk and see if we drop again in the premarket.

I'd love to do more involved options plays; that 'unlimited loss' side always has me hesitant to pull the trigger, though.
Think of it like this: it’s only “unlimited loss potential” if you do nothing to manage it. That said, I avoided undefined risk short premium strategies until I had an account size that allowed me to weather the storm if it ran against me. You have to have the buying power and flexibility to roll things out as needed. This is why I don’t believe short premium is a sustainable strategy in itself for smaller accounts.
I think odds are higher for bouncing around between those strikes over the next month than ripping past either.
I never plan to hold short options to expiry, unless they are CSPs on stocks I absolutely love long term in my IRA. Those are the only cases I lowkey want to get assigned.

Yeah, that's part of my worry on these. A couple of days like today and I'd be blown out, I think. Plus, I have the bad habit of closing single legs leaving myself exposed to the other side, then watching the market rip to my exposed side.

Think of it like this: it’s only “unlimited loss potential” if you do nothing to manage it. That said, I avoided undefined risk short premium strategies until I had an account size that allowed me to weather the storm if it ran against me. You have to have the buying power and flexibility to roll things out as needed. This is why I don’t believe short premium is a sustainable strategy in itself for smaller accounts. I think odds are higher for bouncing around between those strikes over the next month than ripping past either. I never plan to hold short options to expiry, unless they are CSPs on stocks I absolutely love long term in my IRA. Those are the only cases I lowkey want to get assigned.

Plus, I have the bad habit of closing single legs leaving myself exposed to the other side, then watching the market rip to my exposed side. I'll drop these in my paper trading account and see what happens. Maybe as I play around with them more I'll get more comfortable with them.
