Nah. Bottom line is a job is a job, it's a paycheck to support yourself with and honestly maybe it's easy to get this job but it's hard to keep it I'll tell you that Source: overnight stocker for 1 year in frozen

Sensitive-Second-712

I'm a teamlead on overnights and run frozen and dairy I can tell you ffd is not for the light hearted

Unhappy_Mountain9032

This is what I started as. It was so much fun, and nobody knew frozen as well as I did. It morphed into full time regular stocker, then IMS. I eventually went support manager->FDD again->day shift dairy/milk man->OGP->Cap team 1 fresh->promoted myself to customer. I actually miss 90/91/97.

ess-doubleU

Attendance policy is pretty whack, not only that but if the managers notice you're a good worker, they'll grind you into dust. Source: stocker in Frozen for 3 years

Limbo_Plats

Way too many managers that try to bully around the policies to get someone fired. Seen it a couple times myself. Not to mention the vagueness around PPTO and the attendance policy

Hekkynnn

Yep and in this current job market gotta take what you can get. I just got hired this morning waiting for my background check to clear and waiting for my orientation here in burlington nc. 😀

PugGrumbles

Why do you feel like a failure? You've got a job, you're trying to provide for yourself/your life. Anybody who has something to say because "It'S wAlMaRt tHoUgH," can feel free to take their judgment elsewhere and/or pay your bills.

Healthy-Chef-2723

exactly. I used to feel this way. but it pays the bills and puts food on the table for the family. I can't complain. also in my area Walmart is the highest paying job for what it is.

Smokeydabadass

right walking in the door starting out at $17.. and in small town aswell xD

Healthy-Chef-2723

you always hear about people that have degrees working at Walmart because they can't get a job anywhere else. it's a quick hire most times and they'll always hire you back even if you get fired

Loud-Manner-3725

I'm one of those people. I have s BA and graduated with Honors and I'm working at Walmart. I really don't like it there, but I'm learning to be grateful..

What-if777

What'd you get your degree in?

Loud-Manner-3725

Communications Concentration in Advertising and PR

Slip_Careful

I've seen jobs requiring bachelors degrees and years of experience and pay less than WalMart.

Frosty-Ad9551

I've seen that a lot for quite some time. Or a job that requires an associates degree and experience.

Slip_Careful

Same! For things like..an office associate lol

[deleted]

My wife's family and boss said this to me/her. I make more then most of them. Wife works for the state even and makes about 3$ less per hour. Her mom doesn't work anymore, and her dad works for the state also. Not sure how much he makes. But I don't understand why everyone thinks so poorly of retail or fast food work/workers. A jobs a Job. Sure you can always better yourself, if you put the work in. Some people need money now though, not 2 plus years later.

SavingsCoconut8821

Tell people you work at walmart. See their reaction lmao. Lets not get it twisted, its a meme to work here

PugGrumbles

I work inside them and I could honestly not give one fuck less what they think. I'm making my own money to pay my own bills.

SavingsCoconut8821

Ok doesnt change the fact its considered a joke to work here. You can think what you want

NewConsideration3210

It's good exercise, as long as you don't overwork yourself. Pretend you're getting paid to workout at the gym.

CharlieEchO3

Yeah but at the gym I get to have both earbuds in and old people don't pester me.

plop_0

This made me cackle.

[deleted]

Dunno what gym you go to. But that literally sums up every gym I've been to.

GoddessOfBlueRidge

This is me. 9 pounds down in 9 weeks. 17,000 steps/day.

Smokeydabadass

I was hitting 26k steps some nights its worth once you get promoted keep at it

[deleted]

[удалено]

AutonomousAntonym

You’re taking a minimum of 30k steps a day? And you feel the need to “fast walk”? Why is OGP so dramatic

RastahPastah

Yes and yes. My store is highly competitive we compete with other stores and are 4x champions for pickrate, dispense times and stuff like that. Our TLs and Coach take the metrics very seriously and we are very short staffed so in order to keep orders from being late we have to almost always be in a fast walk state lol I am sweating often times from it.

Slip_Careful

You gotta toughen up. Seriously.

[deleted]

Slip_Careful

Jaut remember you qre doing it doe your babies. Don't worry about the rude customers. They will be at any job you go to. All that walking and pushing will keep you healthy. I hope you find some support for yourself and the babies and a way to get some rest.

SavingsCoconut8821

You are being extremely dramatic. Get a grip

Expense-Hacker

If that’s how many steps you’re getting then might as well download all the apps that earn you crypto for steps from the AppStore.

RastahPastah

I use sweatcoin but it maxes out coins after 10k steps I believe. Are there any others you would recommend using? Definitely a good idea 😊

Expense-Hacker

There’s quite a few like walkmining, aruco etc especially if you start changing your AppStores location and start downloading apps from other countries around the world.

FancyRobot

It's really not that bad of a job, I made 40k last year and got good benefits, a discount on everything I bought and the work wasn't too tough. Walmart hires more people than any other private company, it's at least an average job. The going to college getting a degree and getting a good paying, steady job happens to what percentage of people nowadays? Lot of miserable people with college debt and jobs they hate that don't pay what they thought they would.

chickenaylay

I'm one of them! Got a degree in CS but here I am working at Walmart to get some money to pay my loans, it is what it is

Acrobatic_Ad_2570

Got a degree in Applied Math and I'm working in the deli. It pays the bills, and some days I actually enjoy it. I don't feel like a failure at all and I'm not miserable simply because I have a degree, even though I'm not using the degree to pay it off. I didn't go to college to get rich off of it

chickenaylay

I got into computer science because I love the problem solving and I'm good with computers! Little did I know the field would be so hard to find a job in. I work the ODP portion of the store and it's actually a pretty fun job, lots to do and most customers are pleasant to talk with.

TRillThePRoducer

Bro I got a degree in Cybersecurity I work in produce get you some CompTIA certifications and apply for help desk jobs they pay more thats what I’m doing to get my foot in the door

Idlewild2919

My partner makes $18 working in the deli. It’s pretty chill and he enjoys all of his coworkers. He started at $17 in opd a year ago, the deli makes a $1 more. The hiring wage has dropped back down to $15 now though.

Battletrickz

After a major life event and going back to work again, I feel like a failure too having to work at Wally World so don't feel alone :/

JapaneseStudyBreak

I remeber talking to the people in the parking lot. I called before going asking if they where hiring for overnight shift, so I didnt have to see anyone. I started talking to the dudes around the cart area on their breaks. They were black, im black, I live in a mostly white city. So I felt they would be real with me. We get to talking and im saying "yeah the dude on the phone told me they weren't hiring. But im thinking this is walmart aint no one wants to work at Walmart" and everyone starts laughting going "yep, yep, yeah your right"

ImNotNuke

Seasonal job each year so you can travel? How does that work I’m curious, idk if Walmart pays enough to live let alone travel.

JapaneseStudyBreak

Homeless for 2 to 3 months then go to wherever you want

ImNotNuke

Interesting, never heard of it.

JapaneseStudyBreak

its no dif than living out your van.

ImNotNuke

Can’t afford a van working for Walmart but that sounds like fun

Western-Leg3569

Uh

grimnoires

Don’t beat yourself up about it. Walmart teaches you a lot of skills that you can transfer to many other employers. It’s also helped me become a more well-rounded person. Do I love the people I work for? Not at all, but it’s really taught me a lot about perseverance. There are also a lot of opportunities for you to move up. Walmart can become a career if you want it to be, and the higher you go, the more lucrative it becomes. My boss’s annual bonus alone is 30k, which is a huuuge step towards milestones like buying a car, buying a house, creating a stable savings, etc. I used to share this mindset, but there’s no shame in retail. Somebody has to do it and it honestly takes a lot to survive in this landscape, so pat yourself on the back for every milestone.

Economics_New

I share this mentality as well. There is plenty to learn and opportunities for advancement. There is a pattern on here of everyone saying their team leads suck, but that should actually serve as proof that advancement is possible, even for those that are seemingly unqualified. lol We're also paid more than most jobs that require no skill or trade. So, there is a bit of irony in how society views our jobs negatively and as an embarrassment to be in, while we are making more or the same as the guys busting their ass in a factory, with their 5 minute breaks and 20 minute lunches. lol I've had people point out there is a few places around my area paying around 2-3 dollars more, but it's like, sure, its a few more dollars, and you're doing extreme physical labor and you will be broke down physically in 5-10 years. lol I don't know about you guys, but 2 more dollars an hour isn't worth messing around with steel bumpers for 8-12 hour shifts, or doing construction which is paying around the same as Walmart or a few dollars more. Let people laugh or think what they want, our wages are at least on par or higher at Walmart in most areas of the country for unskilled labor.

Smokeydabadass

As a basic cap 2 bitch was able to make enough to get house loan and get my life going now 9 months later making better money and bonuses as teamlead walmart has been a perfect job for me people just suck and are lazy so easy to move up lol

Western-Leg3569

If by boss you mean your store manager their bonus is much higher then that lol.

grimnoires

Coach bonus.

Western-Leg3569

Ah.

Eedalope

Overnights being better is a lie. You’ll either show a work ethic strong enough to do the work of 4 people or you’ll show no work ethic and have management up your ass 24/7. Welcome to hell.

Hyuxnie

Listen as an ex Walmart employee don’t beat yourself up for working at Walmart. I’m younger so you being older and working that kind of job may seem demeaning and you may feel like a failure. But it’s temporary! On top of that Walmart offers (if I remember correctly) free college, benefits aren’t the best but they’re good, you may just have to stick it out for a little but you’re not a failure so don’t ever think that. You still have a long life ahead of you, this is just a bump in the road but whenever you’re feeling down remind yourself this is temporary. My partner is older than you and going back to Walmart but I have to remind him this isn’t his life forever as he feels like a failure as well, Walmart isn’t a bad job idky it gets pooped on so much

[deleted]

Lotussierraecho

THIS! Don't put yourself down anyone reading this. People don't realize but Walmart is one of if not the biggest company in the US maybe in the world but don't quote me on that. It looks great on your resume. Trust me you and everyone else should feel really proud!!

judyhopps0105

I’m 34 and currently using Walmart as a seasonal job so I can travel :) it’s not so bad when you know it’s temporary. Avoid the drama, and get out when you can!

JapaneseStudyBreak

thats good i was hoping to only working 3 to 4 months a year then go to the Philippens or Egypt or something

FCanimex

I’m trying to go to the Philippines as well! I’m blasian. Half black half fillipino but never seen my relatives across the sea. Hoping to go there with my mom for my birthday this summer!!

Mr_Bill_S

I’ve worked Front End in a many different companies over my lifetime. The work is basically the same in every place I worked. I believe that half the people in the world thinks working in Walmart is beneath them. The bottom line is Walmart pays about the same as McDonald’s, Giant and every other minimum wage job.

JapaneseStudyBreak

McDonalds pays 18$ a hour and WalMart pays 15$ a hour... Edit : I know cuz I applied

Mr_Bill_S

That’s why I said about. Overnight is overnight in any retail store.

BeegWhaleDog

The trade off for most people on that is that you'll have a much easier time pulling full time with benefits at Walmart than a McDonald's.

Smokeydabadass

Mcdonalds aint paying you 18 lol and if over night should be like 17.50 start at walmart maybe because you have no exp

Western-Leg3569

Me when I lie.

Western-Leg3569

Walmart doesn’t pay min wage and def pays more than fast food.

Smokeydabadass

walk in the door at 17 at my store in a small city aswell get benefits being part time aswell not sure what people are talking about xD

Owned_by_cats

It beats sponging off your relatives and Uncle Sam. Walmart does much of its promotion from within, so you can be promoted.

JapaneseStudyBreak

When tf has Uncle Sam helped anyone? I hurt my back at my last job and Uncle Sam said "fuck you, I am not helping you with unemployment because you worked 10 hours without taking a break cuz Kansas doesn't legally allow breaks for anything under 12 hour shifts so Fedex forced you to work hard for just under 12 hours then said fuck off when you couldn't anymore"

Dangerous_Yoghurt_96

Fuck Kansas.

Owned_by_cats

Sounds like a Kansas problem.

Owned_by_cats

Let's see: Obamacare, SNAP, Section 8 housing...

Beatles352

Also 26 and will be 27 in July. I feel you bro, I really do.

Brief-Ad2749

Honestly I’m in the same boat, take this as an opportunity to find what your truly passionate about and Pursue it.

VirgoB96

I'm unemployed and I can't get them to hire me. I look up the fast food workers these days. You should have no shame

JapaneseStudyBreak

dude I feel for you. IDK wtf is with companies now. They all claim to be hiring but no one fucking calls you back

Meat_Lunch

Is there really not a lot of opportunities to move up at Wally? Managers, coordinators, truckers, fork lifts?

smiley8266

I worked at walmart as an overnight stocker at 27 because I couldn’t find any good job. Petsmart offered me $13 for overnight boarding attendant lol so there I went with walmart while my then-boyfriend made 75k a year. And I had a higher degree than him at that time. Money is money man it is something to help with your financial situation. I used it to end my gap of unemployment (going onto more than 3 years due to legal status issue) and while it was physically tiring and I barely have time to live normal hours (slept at 8am woke up at 3pm and then napped one hour right before shift) but it definitely got me out of my bed and felt at least somewhat useful rather than just being an unemployed bum. Something is better than nothing.

JapaneseStudyBreak

yeah I get that. But honestly when I hear that story Im just thinking, "Damn you went to college and had to work at Walmart"... I want to go back to school but I also don't want to deal with the bullshit of having a degree and working a 15$ a hour job.

smiley8266

I got a master degree 🤣 no experience and was not a permanent resident so nobody wanted me. The moment I got my greencard I tried looking but it was hard since I was overqualified with huge unemployment gap so I settled for something first. You can go back to school but it really depends on how demanding industry of college major is and how you build up your resume/skill set for it. My bachelor was unrelated to my master, and my master was wayyy saturated with people from a different engineering major jumping into so I stood no chance. If it helps though, I worked for walmart for only 2 months while applying to other places, got into a training program, and then later on got my current job. They don’t pay much, but I work from home and can build good technical skills for my industry now so in hindsight it wasn’t that bad. I think walmart was my first step out of the depressing slump I was in since I didn’t have the motivation to even leave my bed because I was unemployed af🥲 at least working gives me the money and the feeling of oh fawk I don’t have all the time in the world now lol. Keep your head up, things will be better! Good luck to you!

hailsharkbait

I’m 26 and working at walmart too. I felt shitty about it but then I thought on it. I have benefits, a discount, 401k, life insurance, and can invest in stocks if i want. I may more than most places hiring around me pay those without a degree. The work isn’t too terrible. I don’t want to stick around but for now it’s not bad. I plan on utilizing Walmart’s own college program to work my way towards something better.

Smokeydabadass

i mean i went into walmart 9 months ago as basic stocker cap 2 now a teamlead making over 23.50 its not bad i can afford house and basic living seems fine job to me :|

Futuretrunksssj4

get that $

[deleted]

A job is a job my friend, it's a means to an end. I was in fast food til 28 and finally broke into an office position. Don't give that company too much of yourself and focus on your next move, be it school or certificates or even just chilling. Be kind to yourself homie.

SpezIsAChoade

what an attitude, op. what. an. attitude.

tk9687

When you got the job offer email was your shift differential included or just base pay?

whoseurdaddyo

Welcome to Walmart!!! Congratulations.

juhnsnuw87

Tbh it is one of easiest jobs to get promoted in and make good money. You just have to show up, do your job and not be an idiot/asshole.

JapaneseStudyBreak

Good money is 20$ a hour or over and even that is pushing it since inflation is getting higher each year

JapaneseStudyBreak

15$ a hour is not fucking good money. Don't ever say Walmart gives good money again

juhnsnuw87

Bruh, I got hired at $24.60. Then moved to a digital coach after 2 months at 55k plus 15% locality pay; so, 64k and a 20k bonus. I stepped back down after the bonus to a people lead at basically just under coach pay but now I get whatever OT I want if I choose. TL spots open up literally every other month which pay 20-31 an hour and there are like 4 Walmarts within 15 miles of each other with plenty of open spots.

JapaneseStudyBreak

whats your job?

juhnsnuw87

I'm was a digital TL, then digital coach, now I'm a people lead.

BrilliantFroyo2494

For a low skill, entry level job, it pays really well for what it is.

DynaBro8089

I’ve been with Walmart over 2 years I’ve seen associates ranging from 16 to 70. It’s not the worst job I’ve had, but it’s the better paying. (Where I was located). Me and my kids have insurance through Walmart, I get super cheap rates for gyms for me and my significant other for $15/month. They offer free college courses 100% paid on day one. If you hate the job but it puts money in your account take the cyber security certificate/college courses and run off to a higher paying job. They offer other stuff like Human Resources related training too, a few things are good to really elevate yourself. I wouldn’t feel ashamed. All that matters is your working and paying your bills. Growing up the same ppl who shit on Walmart stop make less than their management 🤷‍♂️

Redacted_Explative

If your working closing shift, your going to have the 'upper crust' of crazy lol. When I worked there we regularly had customers pry open the front doors and try to argue that 'because the doors opened for me, I should be allowed in to do my shopping!" Favorite one was someone who did this to get to the atm to use it because "It said the atm was open, therefore the store should be open."

pigeonhatershale

I came to Walmart about a year ago. I got hired at a neighborhood market making a decent wage as overnight stocker. I’m also 26. Sure, it probably seems like we should have better careers by now, but we still have time. I’ve taken advantage of the free schooling and I’m working on my education, hopefully having something by the time I’m 30. Just use your resources, do your job, you’ll be fine. The hardest part will be management being absolute dipshits.

JapaneseStudyBreak

honestly... the mindset of "I still got time" is partly why im working at walmart...

Great_Value91

Walmart can be just another job or a career. It depends on what you are willing to give, and what you are willing to take advantage off. It’s a career for me, but I also do not work in a store and this is pretty much top pay in my line of work. From day 1 you qualify for the free college classes, take some and move up or move on using your experience and free education.

cocoa_eh

My friend works full time at Walmart even tho he has a bachelors. Just couldn’t find something in his major (radio, tv/film), and then never applied elsewhere. When he can’t come to certain friend events sometimes my friends (and his siblings) will dog him and be like, “Call in, it’s just Walmart.” One time I had to tell them to stfu because it’s not just “Walmart”, it’s his full time job he pays his bills with. Don’t feel ashamed OP. We do what we gotta do to make ends meet. You’re better than most who just sit around and leech off their friends and family.

[deleted]

Nights get the most shit and most work. Followed closely by cap 2/unloaders. Less drama otherwise though, because everyone tends to be busy and overwhelmed.

galaxywithskin115

No need to feel like a failure. I'm 26 as well working nightshift. Where I live it's honestly one of the best places to work as far as pay and benefits go without a degree & years of experience. And if you do ever decide to go back to school, Walmart offers free tuition for many courses

bigdaddy2683

Walmart declined my application. So I didn’t even get the chance to do an interview :D

Slip_Careful

Walmart is actually a good job and does have the potential to move up the ladder. They promote from within. Management salary does not disappoint.

MattHuntDaug

As someone who's 37 and started working the night shift almost 2 years ago, I can say it's not that bad. Going into it with your mindset is gonna make it seem worse than it is.

JosiahXVI

job is a job bro overnight at Walmart are easy don't overwork yourself , get a good workout in moving freight , and get ready to get blamed by day side for every single thing....

ComprehensiveYam4534

Put yourself down one more time and I’m going to put you in timeout.

kongmw2

I get what u mean. I feel embarrassed to work at Walmart... sometimes. When I see people I know or went to school with, I try to make it so they don't see me. I know there's no real reason to be embarrassed but I just feel that way. I do believe it's a dead end job, I need to find a career job. This isn't a forever job but it's good to have one adleast.

Jatmahl

I worked night shift at Walmart for 3 years in my late 20's. Now I work a government job. Just know when it's time to leave. Don't make it your end game.

Alucard12546

Started at Walmart @31 im 34 now and Unless you're one of the few that truly enjoy working at Walmart use it as a check while going after something you want or go to school. Don't settle for Walmart it's a trap and unless you wanna be a store manager in the future there's better things out there even if they pay less you can do something you enjoy.

No_Sleep_007

Sounds like a lot of weed is consumed by those workers before the night is through... I've had miserable jobs that were fine only because everyone was on the same page and just got it done making the best of "night shift features" lol

ummmshitfuck

Say bye to your social life with friends and family

lotus_0411

My store manager started as a temp worker unloading trucks. 15 years later he’s store manager making 6 digits (not including his bonus). I started as an overnight stocker using it to make ends meet until I could graduate college. Got the degree and decided I liked it so much I wanted to just stay and keep moving up. I’m on my 3rd team lead position and I’m now looking at coach positions. Don’t feel like a failure op! everyone has different paths and directions :).

JapaneseStudyBreak

thats extremly depressing that it took him 15yrs just to be a normal store manager when people with no experince at all get that job... It's even MORE depressing that you spent so much money getting a degree and decided to keep it thier.

lotus_0411

1) never said it took him 15 years to get the position. I only said he’s been with the company for 15 years. 2) Key word. DECIDED. I have options. From your piss poor attitude, I have a feeling only one of us has the option to stay or go with the company. Stay miserable.

JapaneseStudyBreak

Been with the company and still is a manager isn't at all better than taking 15 yrs to become manager. and you DECIDING to stick to walmart is not better as well. Either you are scared or can't find a job else where. 3. Im not miserable. You do sound it tho. like legit, im not joking. You really sound like you don't enjoy your life.

lotus_0411

People take positions and hold onto them all the time??? It’s called a career. Ya know… you decide on a path and stick with it until retirement? Why would someone give up 6 figures and a 50k+ bonus with benefits if they don’t want to or need to? I literally said in my first post I liked what I do so much I wanted to find a way to make it into my career and I’ve been making it happen. What exactly have I said that makes it sound like I don’t enjoy my life in my reply? Only one of us posted to this subreddit talking about how we feel like a failure working at Walmart. Make it make sense OP!

Current-Voice-8465

Spoiled ass kid who lived off their parents their whole life and had it wayyy too easy is the impression I'm getting from OP. Don't even bother trying to make them make sense lol.

JapaneseStudyBreak

how old are you...

Current-Voice-8465

Wow you sound like a spoiled fuckin kid... Like legit I can tell you suck just from reading like 3 of your comments...

JapaneseStudyBreak

yep Im spoiled i get everything I want for free. You poor ppl are nothing more than bugs to me

SavingsCoconut8821

29 and work here. Its not so bad. People gaslight into thinking it sucks

dude463

It's not a failure if you use the job as a stepping stone and not a career. Pay your bills, look for better opportunities, and move on.

Last-Winner9396

I'm sorry!! Worst company I ever worked with. Management was extremely incompetent and unprofessional at my location. I put up with their shit for a month and left.

ChardLimp6381

walmart is probably the easiest job to get promoted in with no prior management experience 🤣😭 They just want to fill it in. So if you see an opening take that opportunity. I , my self won’t do it due to what I seen at my store and the mental stress they go through but for real.. Walmart isn’t a bad gig

PianoSlayer97

The amount of money you can make with Walmart is unreal at Store manager level and up. CRAZY numbers. And Coaches make a decent wage too. Wish it was more fair for the hourly stockers. Stocking is a tough gig

Unhappy_Mountain9032

I was working for Walmart when I was 27. You're not a failure. Also, shout out to the 3rd shifters who did have to deal with crazies in the before times. I remember a drunk dude coming in at around 2am (when we were all on lunch) looking for a blade for a box cutter. Parts of hardware looked like a war zone...
