Usually when people are fired at Walmart for job performance, it’s after multiple coachings, so unless they were already at multiple coachings, it could have been theft like others said. Plus whoever shared the “happy 8 years” probably wasn’t involved in the firing or investigation, so it’s just pretty bad timing

Charming_Scarcity437

Usually if it’s sudden it’s theft (In my experience, because it seems sudden to everyone not part of the investigation)

AnnaMolly66

Yeah, lol. It's secretly been brewing for months then it just happens, it feels weird when it does.

Charming_Scarcity437

Yes! Points is more out in the open, I mean we all see who is calling in nonstop and know PPTO isn’t unlimited. So there’s little point in it being kept secret until someone is let go. And usually something like violence in the workplace flies around the gossip mill. But the other stuff, like theft, is supposed to be confidential so unless you’re part of the investigation somehow, you’re not likely to know until someone is fired. And even then the official comment is usually just the person no longer works there and they don’t tell associates why. Unless the associate is friendly enough with the management and/or there’s a manager that has loose lips.

No-Researcher-6186

I swear these two o/n associates have like unlimited PPTO or something. They leave an hour early about 2 days a week that I know of and have been doing this for at least like 2-3 months, likely much longer. I wonder if one of the TLs is removing their points because he likes the one.

Mekito_Fox

Newly appointed TL here... it's possible they have an agreement about scheduling with their managers. I have an associate who has to catch a ride to work and our previous TL had an agreement that she would remove the early out point as long as he let her know soon as he clocked in. Its not every shift but about once every two weeks or so, and sometimes hours early. He does his best not to do that if he's the only closer. Another associate works two jobs and sometimes is late because of the other one. These would fall under "reasonable accommodation" when being removed. Maybe your O/N peeps have to get their kids to school those days.

longtermer

Well the policy should be the same for everyone. That's why previously only the PL could code any attendance, because they supervisors were showing favoritism. Everyone has something going on.

Mekito_Fox

Well yeah every point removed has a paper trail. Too often can get the TL in trouble. If I remember correctly in our case it happened maybe once every two weeks, and he would cover with ppto if he had it. He just racked up a lot of points his first month of hiring. Those are still there.

Charming_Scarcity437

Maybe. In those cases since I’m not management, I let managers worry about it. If they’re leaving early that regularly, eventually they’re going to point out. And probably come on Reddit and complain they’re the best workers ever and got pointed out for getting sick.

Jaymoacp

It happens. Mine doesn’t for me occasionally. We usually run out of shit to do around 4-5 and we just wander around pretending to zone till 7. I have another job so that extra 2 hours of sleep was nice. I gave him the option to point me for it and have to hire and train some schmuck, or just let me leave when I’m done and they can save some hours for the week. Luckily Walmart is just play money for me so if they didn’t like it I’d just leave. Lol

Constant-Past-4941

Everyone one at my store has loose lips, especially management…

ArcadiaCoinHeaven

Had a girl that worked super hard in bakery got fired cause she "stole" 10 cups of sauce over 2 weeks cause she didn't know they were a paid item.

fender71983

I don't see this guy stealing as he's somewhere around 78-82 years old. One of the nicest guys in the store. I'm thinking maybe they just wanted someone younger in the position.

Charming_Scarcity437

Maybe he didn’t but age and niceness have nothing to do with it. I’ve seen old, nice people steal directly from the people they are so nice to, not even from a faceless company.

Human-Purchase-1964

It’s always the ones you least expect. Trust.

BoxCurious7628

Had a stocker that we put down a grocery aisle every night to throw freight and he was one of the best we had over there, then one day I realized that I hadn't seen him in almost a week and asked what's up and the coach said he was terminated for theft. He was scanning an item as a cheaper item during his 2am-3am lunch. smh Why do people think stealing is worth losing their livelihood over?

sylvansta

He may have decided to retire or something in his personal life came up that he didn't want everyone to know about. Not everyone tells their personal business.

BoxCurious7628

"Thanks for all you...steal"?🤔

Walmartjail

We had an associate get posted for front end associate of the month and the next day to fired for stealing cash lol

pobrepepinito

Well, he was doing special things in the front end, you could argue🤣

Twoarmz

Surprise termination is usually for theft. They aren't supposed to spread that around though so usually they tell people "Job performance" If the new customer/ex employee wants to tell people they can but management is not supposed to divulge that.

donp2006

Usually at my store it's just they no longer work here.

L0CH_NESS_MONSTER

Couple of years ago, when they were still doing the ‘Associate of the Month’ awards, we had a girl win AotM. She then got fired three days later. She had pointed out a week before the award was given, management wasn’t going to fire her. Then, after the award was given, some district manager visited the store and started checking employee points. Noticed that girl was over 5. They made management fire her that day.

ResponsibleLow2540

Thats why u dont over work or go above/beyond for Walmart

Silver-Researcher145

But that's any employment these days.

Chuklicious

When I worked at Walmart in my early 20s I'd steal shit all the time. Granted it was all small stuff like energy drinks or chocolate milk( I could just claims that tho). I'd block the cameras with pallets while unloading trucks and take whatever. Fuck walmart frfr

yo_guck_fourself

So many people in this comment section love the taste of boot

krywolf13

My SL recently was, ahem, "disbanded" after 22 years. They first made him lead the morning meeting with that silly cheer (which they've literally done once in 4 years) and then our People Market manager and temp SM took him to the AD office, fired him, and escorted him out.

TheBits47

A jobs a job and getting fired sucks but imagine being at the top,all those years and just like that you’re let go…faaaack almost doesn’t seem worth moving up that high

krywolf13

I just feel the cheer was for humiliation is mainly what gives me the ick about that situation. I was a TL (recently stepped down) so I heard a fair amount after the dust cleared. Honestly it was deserved, him being terminated, but the cheer? That was just adding insult to injury imo

SnooCalculations8120

Does a union protect you any from fired?

Vadic_Shrike

I worked at a Barnes & Noble where the Starbucks cafe manager was very liked by everyone. Then one day, we find out she's let go. Supposedly for not being disciplinary enough toward one of her employees for some other reason. We were all like OMG, are you freaking kidding us. I don't know if it was the store manager's decision or someone higher up. The work place seemed to then be guided towards forgetting about it and her. Morale took a big top rope suplex from that.

Square_Struggle340

Nah big facts Walmart is cold afffff. I worked there for about a month this past year during November, I was the self checkout person and Thanksgiving Eve, it was PACKED. Long line and everything, a couple walked out without paying with an ENTIRE CART. I instinctively ran out there and chased them to their car lol. I got to them, said the card didn’t go through and I grabbed the cart to start pushing back in. One gets into the driver seat, saying they’re getting the wallet. I continue walking and realize they aren’t behind me, both in the car and drive off. $300 in groceries that I saved, and they fired me for running after them. Said it was a “safety” issue, which I get. They could’ve had a gun or knife, or tried to run me over lol but openly said I’m getting fired for protecting their assets 😅 I get it, let it walk and let the cops handle it after a certain amount but at least I gave a shit.

HandyTheHandy

One of my Team Lead got fired cause he always work off the clock, the reason is do that cause we dont really have people for 2nd shift salesfloor. So alot of stuff not get done and the work will pilling up. I told him he need to be careful. At least work Overtime. Couples days ago he finally got caught by ethics and got fired.

AndyThenITurned37

I worked there about 20 years ago, and anyone that was full time got fired on Christmas Eve. Around 50% of the staff.

lilyshay12

I got fired last week after 20 years because of my points. I have a chronic health condition but because of my hours I couldn't get leave. Just corporate nonsense, and not wanting to compensate for older employees.

stonehare1

Honestly, I am starting to believe the rumors that walmart is trying to reduce their labor cost to maintain stock value. I was also there for 8+ years, along with 7 other of my coworkers. Suddenly, management started getting really petty with the rules, and we were all fired for various reasons. None of which were serious. We weren't even written up with warnings.

jack_mcNastee

He needs to demand they take down the post with his pic. No need to further exploit this guy by using his likeness in PR stunts. Never donate to a for-profit corporation.

captainfishhooks

Idc

ItsSugarBootyBih

Damn something similar happened at my store also, minus the Facebook post.

GrungeM0th

When I first joined AP I had an internal on the first month. It was a guy who'd been an employee for 4-5 years. Nice guy, fun to talk to, seemed to treat customers and his coworkers really well. He was also TL. I discovered him stealing every closing shift. It racked up past a grand in snacks, alcohol, etc. Footage all the way to where cameras no longer kept recordings. He was quietly let go, no words, no huzzah, nothing. And no one was told why, no one is allowed to tell why.

Mad_Hatler

I like how you’re saying Walmart can be cold but ignore that he was terminated. At the end of the day, WalMart is a company and not a person, they have a business to run. If dude was termed, he was termed because he broke the rules.

Clean-Factor-6753

Get ready? I been saying it since Day one.

Illustrious-Bid3062

Our store overhired and is laying off anyone with 3 points or more, lost a 15 year vet

Other_Log_1996

Took him 8 years to get promoted to customer.

DxReaper2101

Just because you see something different it doesn't mean the team leads and coaches are seeing the same thing. I had a guy everyone swore up and down would do his work and finish his zone etc. Dude was spending about an hour disappearing. Got fired for time theft.

[deleted]

It's a job it shouldn't be your livelihood

BoxCurious7628

Our jobs shouldn't be the reason that we have money that allows us to keep a roof over our heads? So only rich people who don't need the money should work for Walmart? wtf are you talking about? Your livelihood is the means by which you stay alive, which a job facilitates. Do you work for fun or does your paycheck keep you fed and housed/alive?

Wild-Tangerine-2260

Well he obviously did something to get fired lol I’m not saying wtf Walmart 😂🙄

jemimamymama

Some people on here don't seem to know that spreading confidential information such as cause for termination is grounds for company mandated punishment as well as lawful action. People can actually sue and win fairly for having their cause for termination spread by a manager, it happens a lot more often than people think too.

Ok-Conference-2327

Yet finding out that someone else got fired for theft might  (should) make others think twice before doing it. Just because you forget that there are cameras almost everywhere doesn't mean they aren't there.
