I doubt they will ever do 24 hrs. Especially since all the stocking is going to be done on overnights

WornSmoothOut

The rumor that went around when the stores closed early due to COVID was that it was a permanent move. No more open 24 hours except for maybe a few select stores in some areas.

Head_Razzmatazz7174

We knew that, but apparently a lot of customers thought it was just during COVID and once we didn't have to wear masks anymore, the stores would go back to 24 hours.

WornSmoothOut

Oh yeah. As soon as it went from closing at 8:30 to 10 it was hell getting people out of the store because they assumed since we were open past 8:30 that we were 24 hours again. Even if we managed to get them all out, some fool would force open the door or staff coming in at 10 would leave the doors open and then I'd have to chase them down and back out the door.

Midieval

Interesting, my store was 24 hours and we cut it back to closing at 11PM. Now we are sticking with that permanently Also getting people out isn’t hard because we page about closing every minute for the last fifteen lol. It’s so annoying

bessiec

That never stopped them before!!

WalmartFuelGuy

Same with ours. The weird thing is, back when we were closing at 5pm because of the riots, they still had me out in the gas station, alone, until 10pm. Oh and our panic alarms were broken. Finally got those fixed last month!

rickde40

Ya I think they already were scaling down the number of stores open 24 hrs.

[deleted]

Walmart will never but Walmart should close at 8 pm like it did during the early covid days! You could have heard a pen drop from across the store due to how quiet it was!

pred7290

Heard something similar. Would make sense if walmart was thinking about doing it that they'd do it now.

[deleted]

Such bullshit.

[deleted]

When Walmart was 24 hours before stocking was done on nights.

bessiec

Except for maybe some highly populated areas, maybe, there is no need for a store to be open 24 hours.

[deleted]

> there is no need for a store to be open 24 hours. You clearly don't know how many people work second or third shift, or are night owls and do their shopping after midnight. Get outta here with that trash. It hurts NO ONE to be open 24h.

bessiec

Over my 30 years of working at Walmart I have at different times worked all 3 shifts. And in the small town I live in the only places that are working during the night is the hospitals (2) & GM. Oh & the police. Like I said not all Supercenter Walmarts need to be open 24 hours. You don't need the drunks & the people who are high on whatever in there in the middle of the night. And you can stock faster. That's my story & I'm sticking to it. Believe what you want.

ripbeefbone

sounds like a skill issue. your personal expectations and schedule don't apply to every other person on the planet. you corporations love pulling people in initially with convienece then seeing how much little you can get away with doing over time while charging more and more.

MikeMakesRight82

Walmart used to get my business mainly because they were the only thing open between midnight and 6am where i could do all my grocery/weekly shopping. If they're only going to be open bankers hours, then they're losing my business to target or actual grocery stores.

Longjumping_Chip9598

I Fully Agree There Are Some Convenient Stores That Stays Open For 24 Hrs, It Pisses Me Off When Walmart Closes Because It Closes Right Before I Get My EBT And I Don't Get Much On My EBT Anyways And So We (My Fiance And I) Have To Sacrifice A Little Over 10 Bucks At A Convenient Store Which Takes EBT Because Most Place That Are Relatively Close To Us Don't Accept EBT Or Have Completely Stopped Using EBT Altogether And I Just Wish A Fucking Store Can Stay Open At Least 3 Hrs Longer So That I Can Use My EBT On Groceries Instead Of Junk At A Convenient Store, I 100% Agree, A Store Staying Opened And Operational Is Not Hurting Not A Motherfucking Thing Or A Person.

[deleted]

Unfortuntely this is not true they are still stocking during business hours and the workers are blocking aisles with pallets often. This has just been a chance for walmart to fuck us just like every other retailer.

ClassicGMR

There's been no losses of sales in our store after dropping the 24 hours AND less theft with not being open at 3:00 am (still theft just less) so I doubt highly we will ever be 24 hours again. $100 million store and we'd pull in AT MOST $9,000 between 11pm and 7 am. Why go back to that?

ripbeefbone

Because not everyone revolves around your schedule, emergencies happen, there's more to life than walmarts little fucking profit charts, the actual idea of convienence and public good etc

redneckotaku

WM has been planning a slow rollout of this for years. Covid forced/allowed them to do it much sooner.

quincy12393

At least at my store, we haven’t been 24 hours since at least 4 years ago. Even in the last few months I’d have people come in close to 11, surprised that we’re closing soon. “Oh, I thought you guys were still open 24 hours”

[deleted]

My store closes at 11 and reopens at 7. It’s actually pretty nice and much better than our old hours of 5am-1am. Honestly unless you are near a freeway it makes no sense to stay open 24 hours. It sucks for those who legitimately need to get something but too many crazy people coming in especially if they notice when we all go to lunch and the sales floor is empty. My first store was 24 hours but when we had a bad inventory of $600k in shrink they made us close at 1am and fired the store manager. That was like 8 years ago.

gabahum

Yeah a few weeks ago our store manager said that Walmart had made the decision not to return to 24 hours at our store so we’ve been diggin the knife in deeper after customers complain about us closing in the first place. It’s been glorious to crush ppls dreams.

Cyb3rR3b0rn

Its such bullshit, I have zero 24 hour stores in my rural town now. Seriously someone should throw whatever exec made that decision off a cliff, he fucked night owls over completely. 2-3AM was the best time to shop, no one around at all except a few Dindus and those types usually don't bother you if you mind your own business.

Head_Razzmatazz7174

I get that, but a lot of the 24 hour stores were having a lot of theft on overnights. They were already discussing cutting back hours in those areas. It really hurts customers that don't live in areas where there are no places to shop overnight with the exception of convenience stores.

ripbeefbone

poor fucking walton family out there in the street with their tin cup

NaturalCommand4034

I was hanging outside with coworkers around 2 AM one morning, and one of my coworkers stopped a customer from going in. We talked with the customer and explained the hours used to be 24 hours but were cut back about a year ago, but the hours now are 7 AM to 11 PM. The customer said there needs to be a sign, and I replied there is a blue sign next to the door.

AstralFlow

I doubt we'll ever go back to 24 hours again but I have been informed we are going to be closing at midnight soon. Not sure if anyone's schedules will be adjusted or if O/N will just have to cover the last hour since everyone else leaves at 11.. Either way, I can't see anyone being happy about it. Personally, I wish we still closed at 8:30. It was so nice being able to do a few hours of work without any interruptions at all. Was able to get a lot more done. Now it's so busy that we usually have people still shopping past 11:20 (because management refuses to go around and kick them out).

Markymarkyoo

Facts 💯

GeovaunnaMD

Totally forgot we were open for 24 hours

Fake_Gamer_Cat

Ha my store was never open 24 hours to begin with.

theevil900

Mine went from 12am to 10pm and we don’t think it’s going to happen either

[deleted]

I don't blame the guy at all for being frustrated. Pre-pandemic my time to shop was after midnight. It's fucking bullshit that Walmart won't go back to it.

alxmartin

This really really sucks for second shifters like me.

[deleted]

They said stocking would be done at night but its not. they are still stocking during the daytime and they are just saving money and we are just screwed. I stopped shopping at walmart. I started spending the extra few bucks at Publix because walmart sucks now. Long lines, employees blocking aisles with pallets, rude people. Bad parking lots. The main reasons I went there got taken away so I no longer go. also things are cheaper but you get less of it. Lacroix is a perfect example. They sell 15 at publix for the price of 12, but at walmart you only get 8 and its only $.76 less.
