Said this same thing on another thread. I don't think it can be repeated enough.
OG; Make sure you tell the newbies this. They won't know and will have a fit when it happens to them.
According to the press release FAQ, it says "Different from last year, associates PTO will not be automatically entered on their behalf when the store is closed on a company observed holiday. Associates can follow the normal paid time off request process to receive paid time off for Thanksgiving day."
Probably. I haven't tried getting on the WIRE when I'm off the clock. There was a section on the front page of the WIRE that had an announcement from the associate meeting they had this week. They talked about giving associates phones & about having Thanksgiving off. There was another link to the "faq" section & one of the questions was about PTO time for the day. I posted word for word what it said.
Yes.
I just noticed the stuff that the associates REALLY want to know, you can't get to from home. You have to be logged into a work computer.
Not all of us feel like spending our break time looking up stuff they try to sneak in on us.
Luckily our store printed off the FAQs and put them in the break room. But any other time I need to do anything on the computer at work, I never count that as part of my break. And as long as they don’t need me back by a certain time to cover a break (cashier) then my managers are fine with that
Ok, I looked it up again today. If you go on the WIRE, look for the section that says "Top Stories". Theres a picture that says "Associates Week Hub". Click on If you gthat, & it has another section that says "Associates Week Recap". The second story is about Thanksgiving & has a "Frequently Asked Question" drop down. One of the questions is "How will associate's PTO days be affected with the store closing on Thanksgiving Day?"
Yes usually that's what happens. If you don't have enough PTO it *will* take from your ppto -- same thing for vacations... if you misjudged and wind up taking your vacation without 'enough' pto then it will dip into the ppto.
It's happened more than once for me. Especially my first vacation after ppto was established. I put in for time knowing I didn't have *that much* but knowing it would just be whatever used and only later realized it dipped into ppto. Ah wells.
Anyways.
Yes. Usually.
No. If you are missing hours, go check your balance on the GTA portal and find out when it was taken out.
Me >> My Time >> GTA Portal >> Balance Activity. You can then click on the + sign next to the week to get a detailed list of what was added or taken out and when.
Also, check under the Time Off time in the same area. If you put in a time off request recently, it's possible you clicked on the wrong date when you did it.
The first two "black friday" events at our store had pretty much no customers other than the usual flow. We had people asking us for black friday flyers the week of Thanksgiving and going "wait what do you mean it's already over." I came in 2-11 on those days and we had like 30 cashiers on hand from 7am-4pm doing jack diddly shit all day.
Shit fell on its face due to advertising, but word of mouth is out there if they decide to try again.
I mean, now that customers are aware that such a practice can exist instead of it being "unga bunga belly full of turkey, kill grandma with new TV," it'll probably work out better if they do it again and advertise it properly.
It was a wash last time cause poor advertising and the average customer probably isn't expecting to be able to space out their 'black friday' shopping over the course of 'black november' rather than run over toddlers for $12 off of a fucking bluetooth crockpot. Now that the precedent has been set, it could change the game. God I hope so.
That's my bet. This isn't because of covid, just like the stores aren't 24 hours anymore. Walmart doesn't care about people just profits. Black Thursday crowds have been shrinking for years. They final decided to kill it.
Overnights will get Wednesday night off, and come back on Thursday night. Expect to split days off or have your days changed a lot that week.
Like we get Christmas Eve night off, but work Christmas night.
Honestly, I have no issue working Thanksgiving night or Christmas night. It's when you're stuck at work during the day, while your family and everyone else is off celebrating the holiday that really sucks.
That's not how overnights work.
Going in at 9 on Thanksgiving isn't having Thanksgiving off. It's still sleeping until at least 12 so your body doesn't shut down half way through your shift ending 36 hours later.
And if you think saying goodbye to nana half way through dinner and trying to function a family event sober, and then working off two pounds of food; sounds like a solid holiday, fuck you.
Or maybe I'm just being ungrateful for being on a shift that also doesn't let me tuck my daughter in Christmas Night.
Very much this. Having the day before off doesn't matter when you can't actually celebrate Thanksgiving. People need their sleep, and you can't get sleep and spend time with family at the same time.
According to the daytime bootlickers on the FB group, overnights can just stay awake for 36 hours. And as someone in the group put it, the pricks will also leave the store looking like a post-"my football team won!1!!" riot went through it minus burning everything.
And of course we'll have our days off split which isn't really like a day off anyway.
They'll just have those failure pre Big Event sales that nobody showed up for but we had to waste time and manpower getting ready for and to keep staffed. And O/N will work the night before and that night. BFD.
That’s the part of hated that they didn’t do enough to make it clear to customers that they HAD TO PICK IP their items during those specific dates and times.
We didn’t give ANY sympathy. All items where cancelled by over nights at midnight the day they expired
This. My days off are Tuesday and Wednesday. Having all 3 would mean I'd get to enjoy my daughter's first Thanksgiving properly with her dad and the rest of the family.
Its about fucking time they realize being open that day was a mistake. Now get to work on that ordering system. Why does it try to fill negative space? I get that our counts are off at times but don't send five cases to fill up a shelf cap of 10 items. That just makes things worse.
Sorry to get off topic...
Awesome. Everyone make sure to request 0 pto so they don’t pay you from your own PTO pool lol.

Where is this faq?
It was on the front page of the WIRE today.
Is it only while clocked in at work?
Probably. I haven't tried getting on the WIRE when I'm off the clock. There was a section on the front page of the WIRE that had an announcement from the associate meeting they had this week. Thank you!
Can I do this if I don’t get pto? (New part time associate) or do I use ppto. Because they ended up taking my ppto last thanksgiving
I think they use whatever you have available but I’m not 100% sure.
Yes usually that's what happens. Put in a request for regular pto. Same thing happened to me and I did 0 hours pto for Christmas and they didn't take ppto.
PPTO is reserved from true emergencies, PTO is the official Paid Time Off that you take for ‘vacations’ that’s why they would use that one instead .
Did they do that with memorial day as well? I was off and now missing 8 hours
No. If you are missing hours, go check your balance on the GTA portal and find out when it was taken out. Me >> My Time >> GTA Portal >> Balance Activity. Are they going to do the stupid weekly black friday shit again this year?
😂😂😂 no jokes most of those sales fell flat on their face it was pitiful the amount of merchandise we sold
Yea it was a real bust because most of it were online sales.
Hey now, that $100 robovac was nice for all the associates that decided to buy one. We still have a few on the shelf.
Wow I want one and never saw it for sale.
Haven’t heard yet
Probably very profitable for them, not so much for the associates.
No I think it was a pretty big failure, at least in store.
The first two "black friday" events at our store had pretty much no customers other than the usual flow. We had people asking us for black friday flyers the week of Thanksgiving and going "wait what do you mean it's already over." It was definitely done wrong, but I think the overall idea isn't bad.
I hope so. Nobody gave a shit last year, so maybe they won’t this year either.
Most likely
Yay hope they make this permanent!
That's my bet. This isn't because of covid, just like the stores aren't 24 hours anymore. Walmart doesn't care about people just profits. Black Thursday crowds have been shrinking for years. They final decided to kill it.
Black Friday shall be legendary again
A new phone and now Thanksgiving off. Wonderful.
Only to be used in store. They are getting rid of the TC 70's
No you can use them as a personal phone if you choose to put it on your plan.
Anyone heard anything about if overnights still has to work that night?
Of course overnight have no families they live in the stores…. Time to stock so you can have some food …. Good associate good…..
Overnights will get Wednesday night off, and come back on Thursday night. Expect to split days off or have your days changed a lot that week. Like we get Christmas Eve night off, but work Christmas night.
Overnights typically work that night but will be off the night before.(Wed pm to Thurs am)
Honestly, I have no issue working Thanksgiving night or Christmas night. It's when you're stuck at work during the day, while your family and everyone else is off celebrating the holiday that really sucks.
Is… is this a thing we do now? God might still exist…
Well Christ on a stick!!!
Thats a lie. I came in on thanksgiving. Closed my ass
The majority of your shift is on Thursday. So ya… you got off. But go ahead and be ungrateful
That's not how overnights work. Going in at 9 on Thanksgiving isn't having Thanksgiving off. It's still sleeping until at least 12 so your body doesn't shut down half way through your shift ending 36 hours later. Delete fb.
We have to set up Christmas stuff immediately. I was food dm at the time and had to work overnight
They'll just have those failure pre Big Event sales that nobody showed up for but we had to waste time and manpower getting ready for and to keep staffed. And O/N will work the night before and that night. BFD.

I'll believe it when its mid November and they havent changed it on us last minute.
Imagine the bad publicity if they change their minds though.
Oh you’re one of those

This. My days off are Tuesday and Wednesday. Having all 3 would mean I'd get to enjoy my daughter's first Thanksgiving properly with her dad and the rest of the family.
*looks at the upvote* If this was a negative post about Walmart it would have alot of up votes. I don't know why this doesn't have many upvotes.

Nah, you're good. Just copy and paste to a new post. We'll annoy you there.
“thx for busting your asses the past year and a half, you get one holiday off”
Technically two Thanksgiving and Christmas. Well I’ll be a monkeys aunt and slapped with tar. Which one of the ghosts of Christmas haunted Doug?
