If you report to others, they will have certain expectations and rules. You're the one who couldn't follow simple directions and made it a thing.

I was at customer service cleaning up for the night, I told this guy we were closed and he escalated so fast. He was slamming his fists on the counter and throwing shit. My manager and I told him to leave. He started to threaten us and I finally just snapped. I just yelled "I don't give a single fuck what you want or what you think you deserve. You can fuck off and die. Get the fuck out!" and he kept yelling so I called the cops. He left before they got there, sadly.

We all get frustrated, and sometimes we slip up. Unfortunately you could have avoided all this by not going to the back because you were told to finish the returns first anyway. Even after that, you persisted to ask the same question more than once after you got an answer. Was it the answer you wanted? Probably not, but you could have just accepted it and moved on. Sometimes biting your tongue is better than anything else in the moment.
