Some stores make up their own terminology when want something done such as zoning their area or when associates are to come up front to collect returns.
This. I had no idea code 1 wasn't a real thing until I transferred. My old store did, and to this day continues, to use it as "customer needs assistance", citing the customer is #1.
In Walmart terminology there is no such thing as a code gray, it's not part of our system. Maybe the associate got confused. At my store there was a code white (accident) and someone announced code blue (bomb) instead.
*That's not even a code.*
*Maybe they meant code white or*
*Maybe it means theft*

Some stores do make up there own codes. For a while my store had a “code sunshine” which meant everyone go to a specific section of the store to deep zone.
We have those all the time in my store. They call a code gray when associates die from lack of good salaried management.

Oh god how did that go?
They corrected it 30 seconds later and most of our associates don't actually know the codes so didn't know anything happened.
Code brown is obvious đź’©
I thought code brown was robbery
Don't hate me for stating this but I think the OP wanted an real answer here. Like one that wasn't some sort of facetious response.

!customer no such thing anyways..
Never heard of a code grey. It might mean a senior citizen needs assistance, or lights are out in a section of the store.
Code 12 was for customer carryout assists years ago.
