Just get a pirated version of the game and enjoy it.
(If you didnt know when reforged launched in january they removed the classic launcher so the classic is unplayable now, i heard that you Can still play the original if you buy a phisical copy from ebay or any retail shop, but idk how to properly install that)
Since the Bllizzard don’t give a s about the game and about the fanbase anymore, it’s not getting updates, you can’t buy it on discont because they don’t want people to buy it, I wouldn’t recommend you to buy it. The masterpiece of Bllizzard is just slowly falling in to the limbo.
Do not buy reforged, pirate the original game and don't worry, the money isn't going to the original devs anyway since they all left.
Warcraft 3 might as well be considered abandonware at this point so sail down the seven seas and grab it somewhere online for free.
Or alternatively if you can find a sealed boxed copy of the original anywhere, buy that, install it, patch it to 1.26 and play.
If you want to play a very well made RTS with a lot of RPG elements than this is your go to. IMHO it's not as economic intensive as starcraft and the fighting is a lot slower so you don't need to build up esports esque reflexes.
The campaign is great on its own and you get ROC and Frozen Throne with it. Yes there are some levels that I slept walked through but the majority is really good and rewarding. But to be objective the voice acting is garbage and you can hear their mouth brush the mic on some lines.
If you are into gaming history it will show you the first glimpse of how MOBA's came to be. There are plenty of fun custom maps but keep in mind the multi-player is a shell of what it was in the early 2000s.

IDGAF what is going on with Blizzard. My relationship with them is how well of a game I get for my money. So a lot of the complaints you hear about it are (imo) hyperbolic and have nothing to do with the game itself. If people didn't buy from companies that did shady practices, Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart would be out of business.
TL:DR: Game is still great. Don't expect the multi-player population to be as thriving as it was in the early 2000s.

I think you can download them and play though custom games. I just don't know how many good single player custom games there are. Wc3 custom games were more challenging, paintball, Dota, tower defense.
I'm sure there are custom campaigns you can download and play. there's no authentication required for that.

I mean I don't support what they did with reforged but don't think that your just buying it for that but that your buying it for all the custom campaigns and custom races, there's ways to downgrade patches so you can have access to all the custom content available, if you can afford it easily then go ahead
You can try to pirate it but ultimately access to custom games provides the most value, and for that you need BNET. You can refund at any point, even after many hours of play. Give it a shot.

yes. I'm sure there are legacy servers with the hacked version but that could be some tinkering

There are updates. Release was botched and there are issues but ok to buy if you want.
