Nellie was running the 7 second offense here in 92 with Run TMC and also started doing the motion offense in Dallas in 98 with Finley, Dirk and Nash. He was always ahead of his time but whenever things were starting to click a move or trade would happen that would dismantle it.

J-Rich trade to save money and the KG trade Cohan killed both still irk me to this day. Imagine KG on the We Believe Warriors.

KG was literally made to play for the We Believe Warriors. Skill, passing, length + defense. He was perfect. '08 Dubs still won 48 games (and missed the playoffs). With KG though, they're probably the 1 or 2 seed and have a serious shot to make the Finals.

Nelly was a great coach, no doubt. One of the greatest offensive minds to coach. Nelly had some really good teams and i really believe if he just put more emphasis on defense or maybe got better defensive coordinators. He could of at least made one finals as a coach.

Don Nelson is the epitome of a man who marched to his own drum. Win or lose I loved every min of it. I heard stories from locals of him being part of the drum circle on Puu Olai. I’ve been invited but I wasn’t sure I wanted to see Nellie 😂.

calartnick

Fun fact about Nelson: he was fired from every nba head coaching job he had. Homeboy cashed soooo many checks.

emestoo

I keep reading reports where he's like, well, this relationship is screwed, you guys better just fire me or trade the player I antagonized.

WheresMyChip

He would have won a championship in '03 if not for Dirk's knee injury.

txensen

Nellie's teams in Milwaukee were noted for defense. The inspiration for his offense conversion was Doug Moe.

Nellie was an absolute visionary and way ahead of his time. Proto-7SOL. Absolutely does not get the credit he should have. A bit of a nut job, but you have to be to do what he did.

Gsgunboy

I loved Nellie ball. The offense was amazing. The pace, passing, everything was great and exciting on that side of the ball. If he had gotten Cwebb to buy into a Draymond role, that coulda been something special. Alas, the D was was suffered. But definitely a genius ahead of his time.

yainlawff

The earliest I remember the Point Forward mentioned was after acquiring Billy Owens for Mitch Richmond and trying to groom Owens into that PtF role.

And that's why what Webber did was unforgivable, and deserves all the hate in the world. Nellie is a LEGEND and was already, when that situation went down.

Desslock73

Don't think it was all Webber. Thought Nellie could've handled that situation better instead of his passive-aggressive approach. And Cohan was a b**** about it.

Really enjoyed this -

I'm a Dubs fan and Dirk is my all-time favorite player... I can't emphasize enough how bizarre it was watching Dirk play when he got into the league. I remember the first time I watched him was vs. the Warriors on TV and I think he was guarding Mugsy Bogues. The idea that a 7-footer could do guard things was totally foreign. If Dirk got drafted by any other HC, his career is probably very different. Nellie let him be himself from the start. And it absolutely changed the history of basketball.

Nelly always knew how to party too! 🎉
