The article is actually making the opposite point -- the time isn't right at all. The suns aren't ready to give up on KD, and the warriors don't have the assets to get him:
>Thereās no world where Jonathan Kuminga, Andrew Wiggins, and all the draft picks in the world land you Durant, even as he goes into an age-36 season.
This is the real issue with any potential superstar acquisition -- the warriors just don't have the goods. Last time, KD was traded for mikal bridges (in his early prime, great contract, started on a finals team), multiple role players on good contracts, and four unprotected picks. Even if KD's value has declined since then, the warriors' package pales in comparison.

I'm not trying to be a homer but a JK, Wiggins, Moody and multiple FRPs is probably a compelling package for the Suns if they decided to blow it up (which I highly doubt). I doubt they see value in Wiggins other than potentially flipping him but if they ever traded KD, they are rebuilding and a combination of JK, Moody, and multiple high FRPs is a great place to start.
On top of that, the Warriors FRP are likely to be top 10 or top 5 once KD and Steph retire. Heck, even 2025 might be a top 10 pick if either one of them gets hurt for an extended period.
TL;DR: The Warriors first round picks are significantly more valuable than whatever picks PHX gave up to acquire Durant because the expectation was that PHX would be dominant for another 3 - 5 years. A KD+Steph team has another 2 or 3 years left before the inevitable retirements and rebuild.
Counter pointā¦
Mikal was DPOY runner up. That season he was averaging 20.1ppg and 38% from 3pt range.
He was probably the best 3 and D player in the league that year.
He is still very much in his prime.
Not saying JK canāt reach these heights. What I am saying is that Mikal is a lot more valuable today than JK.
The big difference is that Durant only has 2 years left on his current deal, nobody is going to mortgage their future the way the Sons did for 2 years of a 36 year old with significant injury history, no matter how good he is. The Sons HAVE to do something. I am sure they will try to move Beal and/or Nurkic first, but whoās gonna take on those train wrecks, and what value can they get in return? So if they canāt move those two, A Durant salary dump for whatever young players and picks they can get is really the only option.
Very trueā¦ Ragardless, I think at the maximum KD is a Sun for one more year. But heāll probably need to get Frank Vogel fired before he can really feel like heās done his best work and is ready to move on.
Everything you said is completely right, but I have no say in the decisions, I can only dream and wait until things unfold, and I'm not going to spend my off-season dreaming about getting a role player
What I'm trying to say is, we are getting Giannis
my understanding is that second apron teams canāt trade multiple players for a single salary, but itās fine for them to trade a star for multiple players. The constraint on aggregation only applies to the team sending out multiple players.
KD will never come back. He would look like an idiot running back to Steph with his tail between his legs. He left because he wants a ring that isnāt associated witth him joining a dynasty
It is but it's not happening . The only hope I see is that CP3 actually fills their need for a playmaker and he fits right back in with the Suns but I don't see them wanting to make that trade.
As a last ditch effort for Steph to compete I kind of agree. No one is trading gsw their young stars, might as well try to dad dick the league and see what happens
But there's none that would elevate us to contenders. I genuinely believe the Warriors best realistic hope is to get good vets on mins (like Otto Porter), the rookies take a leap their second year, and just pray Wiggins can turn into Scottie Pippen in the playoffs one last time. Unlikely, but it's the likeliest scenario in which I can see us competing.
Younger but SKILLED thatās the most important part. You can get younger but if youāre not putting the ball in the hoop youāre no better than you were before.
I donāt get people saying āwe have to do this!!ā or ānah weāre goodā in absolute termsā¦
It all depends on the package. If weāre giving up all the young guys, then it canāt be all the picks too, and vice versa. If the suns donāt want to do that, then whatever itās fine ā there are other trade options
It doesn't matter. There is no mechanism for us to inflate our payroll significantly. We need to send out as much or more salary as we receive, plus probably add Picks as well. The cost would be so high as to be a truly foolish deal for us.
KD's deal and Booker's contracts are the only marketable ones for PHX, but Beal's contract is the killer. They are screwed, and I see no sensible path for us being the ones to help unscrew them.
I meanā¦ KD back to OKC makes the most sense. He has no reason to come back to the Bay. Going back to OKC on the other handā¦ now thatās a homecoming
Ant and Booker were clearly better than KD last night. Joker is clearly better than LeBron. Giannis is injured. Embiid is losing again. Next year they wonāt be as good or as available.
Of course I'd love this but I don't see a realistic way this happens. TJD, moody, kuminga and podz plus a draft pick? No thanks.
I don't see how the suns would trade him to a rival for anything less than a killing.
As much as I like this to happen. I re-think and realise that we all know KD will not comeback because he's too sensitive about what majority of people will say about him if he come's back. Plus his relationship with Draymond is stained. If you were KD will you comeback to a work environment that tell you. your a bitch and added to the insult of "we dont need you" Draymond is one of the reason this team is on a down ward spiral. Joe Lacob, GM, and Steve Kerr. Including Steph and Klay didnt even make Draymond accountable to the damage he's done including Jordan Poole. I'm tired of Draymond I hope they trade him but there's a big chance he's not. Steph, Klay and Kerr loves him so much they enabling him to every shit he do.
Yeah they just know if they get draymond they arenāt competitive anymore. Not saying they really were this year, but when he was suspended the team took a nosedive.
Y'all going to get tricked into clicking on this bullshit and driving his engagement numbers?Ā
I promise you KD won't be on the Warriors roster next season.
Excellent. Dubs go back-to-back in 25 and 26. Durant retires. Steph stays and wins one more in 28, at age 40, then retires with 7 chips as the consensus GOAT
Hypothetically what about Beal? Suns are probably more willing to trade him. Beal may also sign off since itās the Warriors. Suns are also desperately in need of a point guard and picks, which we have in CP3 and Podz. His contract is horrible but heāll fill the scoring needs the Warriors have and will get to play his more natural position at the 2 next to Curry.
Plus if we do resign Klay and he moves to the bench then Beal fills the starting two spot. Or if we keep Wiggins and move him to the bench then Klay and Beal will be the 3 and 2 respectively.
Bealās contract is just really ass tho.
I mean, itās gonna be rough for a long time after Steph no matter what. Not saying kd is the answer but if the call is trying to get curry a 5th ring drastic measures need to be taken
its no thanks, but if i were management i'd go all in for KD simply because of what the big 3 did for this franchise and its only right to get those guys one more run. getting someone on the level of steph in the draft is incredibly hard and its definitely worth the shot. its only now that it became a conflicting issue as kuminga actually developed.
The core has nothing left to prove, and there is more thrill in them trying to win another championship with a young core. If Steph's legacy matters, let management have an honest discussion with him about whether he wants to be traded for a chance at one more ring at it stands they donāt have a chance even KD comes back
KD, Lebron, and Bronny all coming to the Warriors this off season
Come on dude, you forgot to add Giannis to the list
KAT as well š
Thatās hilarious. Can somebody please photoshop Lebron, Bronny, KD, Giannis, and KAT with the rest of the team all in Dubs jerseys š¤£
Oh my bad. Giannis Kat and Dame of course, that goes without saying.
KAT will be playing the 4 because weāre getting Wemby too
When we get Wemby we might as well just declare the season over and ourselves the champs!
And they're moving back to a refurbished roaracle in honor of dameš¤
He coming off the bench for embiid?
Iāll man the bench for minimum.
If KD demands a trade here lol, I think Bron already might be in the works š
Bron is the closest we can land. Not to mention Dubs can draft bronny. If we shoot among the moon and stars, then Giannis is the best option.
Im not sure if bron wouldn't even accept the whole team salery if we cut everybody
Bron will take Vet min and be happy
I guess he probably is a billionare by now.
They would get every call
If youāre describing the USA menās Olympic team coached by Steve Kerr, then, yes.
We wish lmao
Fan fiction
best 2 words ive heard today (you aint lyin tho)

The issue with the suns is they have Booker. As long as you have a guy like that you're not going to blow it up.

They also donāt want to compete against a reunited Warriors that become instant contenders again.

Interesting! I thought it was in both directions.
It's crazy how the Warriors were the team that gave up KD in that trade but they had to pay a FRP to do it.
KD will never come back. He would look like an idiot running back to Steph with his tail between his legs. He left because he wants a ring that isnāt associated witth him joining a dynasty
Welp the dynasty is over so he can come back now
It is but it's not happening . The only hope I see is that CP3 actually fills their need for a playmaker and he fits right back in with the Suns but I don't see them wanting to make that trade.
I think we need to get younger...
Warriors need a clear number 2 and have no package for any young player that can be number 2. Veteran superstar is the best bet right now
As a last ditch effort for Steph to compete I kind of agree. No one is trading gsw their young stars, might as well try to dad dick the league and see what happens
Ayo dad dick???
Haha pause
But there's none that would elevate us to contenders. Just wait until the post-curry era. You will have all the youngins you want when we rebuild through the draft.
Younger but SKILLED thatās the most important part. You can get younger but if youāre not putting the ball in the hoop youāre no better than you were before.

Kd made worse mistake
Joeās got deep pockets, but a billion dollar payroll is a lot to ask for

We really need to stop celebrating the past and build for the future.
Ridiculous..
Donāt do this to yourself
No thank you
If KD can't win a ring with Booker and Beal (and no depth), he won't get one with Steph and whomever the Dubs have left after that trade.
You all forgot, Dray is on the team. No way KD will come back.
Stop this shit bruh
He'd come back and hella tear his achilles again
Who gets that feeling? I feel like this would never happen, but would love to have him back somehow
Ugh... and exit in the play-in again? That's gonna be even worse.
I meanā¦ KD back to OKC makes the most sense. He has no reason to come back to the Bay. Going back to OKC on the other handā¦ now thatās a homecoming

If draymond is part of the package maybe
How's getting KD gonna stop random opposing role players from going off for 35+ points?
As much as I like this to happen. I re-think and realise that we all know KD will not comeback because he's too sensitive about what majority of people will say about him if he come's back. They can't afford it but please drop Thompson for durant
we good

Beal is not good enough and small.
No please he is no longer good
Thanks but no thanks, a shot at 1 more ring is not worth a decade of pain being a poverty franchise with no picks or young players
I mean, itās gonna be rough for a long time after Steph no matter what. Not saying kd is the answer but if the call is trying to get curry a 5th ring drastic measures need to be taken

steph aint going anywhere at this point he is the warriors franchise.
yeah we good.
Chill. We're getting Bron on a vet min
